To investigate the continuity of positive functionals on certain topological*-algebras, we consider general locally convex and non-locally convex topological*-algebras which need not have identity or continuity of involution. We generalize a number of known results.The research of the first-named author was partially supported by an NSERC grant. For a Lau algebra A, we study the Banach space WAP(A) of all weakly almost periodic functionals on A to obtain some equivalent conditions for the existence of topological left invariant means on a topological left introverted subspace X of A contained in WAP(A). This paper is a continuation of [GK3] where the theory of Invertibility Symbol in Banach algebras was developed. In the present paper we generalize these results for the case when the Invertibility Symbol is defined on a subalgebra of the Banach algebras. The difficulty which arises here in this more general case is connected with the fact that some elements of the subalgebra may have the inverses which do not belong to the subalgebra. This generalization of the theory allows us to study the Fredholm Symbols of linear operators. Applications to subalgebras generated by two idempotents and to algebras generated by singular integral operators are presented.  相似文献

Necessary and sufficient conditions are found for the possibility of an extension of Invertibility Symbols from a dense subalgebra to its closure. It is proved that such an extension is possible if and only if the closure does not have any Kakutani elements. The extension of Invertibility Symbols from a Banach algebra to the matrix-valued case is also considered. Algebras with Polynomial Identities play an important role here. Applications to algebras generated by two idempotents and to algebras generated by singular integral operators are suggested.  相似文献

Unbounded C*-seminorms generated by families of biweights on a partial *-algebra are considered and the admissibility of biweights is characterized in terms of unbounded C*-seminorms they generate. Furthermore, it is shown that, under suitable assumptions, when the family of biweights consists of all those ones which are relatively bounded with respect to a given C*-seminorm q, it can be obtained an expression for q analogous to that one which holds true for the norm of a C*-algebra.  相似文献

A balanced ternary design onV elements is a collection ofB blocks (which are multisets) of sizeK, such that each element occurs 0, 1 or 2 times per block andR times altogether, and such that each unordered pair of distinct elements occurs times. (For example, in the blockxxyyz, the pairxy is said to occur four times and the pairsxz, yz twice each.) It is straightforward to show that each element has to occur singly in a constant number of blocks, say 1, and so each element also occurs twice in a constant number of blocks, say 2, whereR= 1+2 2. If 2=0 the design is a balanced incomplete block design (binary design), so we assume 2>0, andK<2V (corresponding to incompleteness in the binary case). Necessarily >1 if 2>0 (andK>2).In 1980 and 1982 the author gave necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of balanced ternary designs withK=3, =2 and 2=1, 2 or 3. In this paper work on the existence of balanced ternary designs with block size three is concluded, in that necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a balanced ternary design withK=3, any >1 and any 2 are given.  相似文献

Abstract

We construct an associative algebra A k and show that there is a representation of A k on V ?k , where V is the natural 2n-dimensional representation of the Lie superalgebra 𝔭(n). We prove that A k is the full centralizer of 𝔭(n) on V ?k , thereby obtaining a “Schur-Weyl duality” for the Lie superalgebra 𝔭(n). This result is used to understand the representation theory of the Lie superalgebra 𝔭(n). In particular, using A k we decompose the tensor space V ?k , for k = 2 or 3, and show that V ?k is not completely reducible for any k ≥ 2.  相似文献

An ordered linear spaceL is said to satisfy extension property (E1) if for every directed subspaceM ofL and positive linear functional ϕ onM, ϕ can be extended toL. A Riesz spaceL is said to satisfy extension property (E2) if for every sub-Riesz spaceM ofL and every real valued Riesz homomorphism ϕ onM, ϕ can be extended toL as a Riesz homomorphism. These properties were introduced by Schmidt in [5]. In this paper, it is shown that an ordered linear space has extension property (E1) if and only if it is order isomorphic to a function spaceL′ defined on a setX′ such that iff andg belong toL′ there exists a finite disjoint subsetM of the set of functions onX′ such that each off andg is a linear combination of the points ofM. Summary We give a new simple proof of Šemrl’s recent representation theorem for quasi-quadratic functions acting on unital modules and then show that our approach also gives a certain extension of Šemrl’s result. For a matrix over a complex commutative unital Banach algebra, necessary and sufficient conditions are given for the existence of its group inverse, and more generally, its Drazin inverses. The conditions are easy to check and explicit formulas for the inverses are provided. Some properties of the inverses and an application to operator theory are discussed.
