 Under the Riemann Hypothesis for the classical Riemann zeta function, there exist infinitely many arithmetically non-isomorphic arithmetical semigroups with the property that one of the associated L-functions vanishes at . Moreover, there are no restrictions in the distribution of prime divisors of a given norm except an obvious one concerning the order of magnitude.  A subsemigroup S of a semigroup Q is an order in Q if for every there exist such that , where a and d are contained in (maximal) subgroups of Q, and and are their inverses in these subgroups. A regular semigroup S is strict if it is a subdirect product of completely (0-)simple semigroups. We construct all orders and involutions in Auinger’s model of a strict regular semigroup. This is used to find necessary and sufficient conditions on an involution on an order S in a strict regular semigroup Q for extendibility to an involution on Q.  Newton’s method is used to approximate a locally unique zero of a polynomial operator F of degree in Banach space. So far, convergence conditions have been found for Newton’s method based on the Newton-Kantorovich hypothesis that uses Lipschitz-type conditions and information only on the first Fréchet-derivative of F. Here we provide a new semilocal convergence theorem for Newton’s method that uses information on all Fréchet-derivatives of F except the first. This way, we obtain sufficient convergence conditions different from the Newton-Kantorovich hypothesis. Our results are extended to include the case when F is a nonlinear operator whose kth Fréchet-derivative satisfies a H?lder continuity condition. An example is provided to show that our conditions hold where all previous ones fail. Moreover, some applications of our results to the solution of polynomial systems and differential equations are suggested. Furthermore, our results apply to solve a nonlinear integral equation appearing in radiative transfer in connection with the problem of determination of the angular distribution of the radiant-flux emerging from a plane radiation field.  In a recent paper of G. Fejes Tóth, G. Kuperberg and W. Kuperberg [1] a conjecture has been published concerning the greatest lower bound of the density of a 2-saturated packing of unit discs in the plane. (A packing of unit discs is said to be 2-saturated if none of the discs could be replaced by two other ones of the same size to generate a new packing. A packing of the unit disc is a lattice packing if the centers form a point lattice.) In the present note we study this problem for lattice packings, however, in a more general form in which the removed unit disc is replaced by two discs of radius r. A corollary of our results supports the above conjecture proving that a lattice packing cannot be 2-saturated except if its density is larger than the conjectured bound.  Let A be a biprojective Banach algebra, and let A-mod-A be the category of Banach A-bimodules. In this paper, for every given -mod-A, we compute all the cohomology groups . Furthermore, we give some cohomological characterizations of biprojective Banach algebras. In particular, we show that the following properties of a Banach algebra A are equivalent to its biprojectivity: (i) for all -mod -A; (ii) for all -mod-A; (iii) for all -mod-A. (Here and are, respectively, the Banach A-bimodules of left, right and double multipliers of X.) Further, if A is a biflat Banach algebra and -mod-A, we compute all the cohomology groups , where is the Banach A-bimodule dual to X. Also, we give cohomological characterizations of biflat Banach algebras. We prove that a Banach algebra A is biflat if and only if any of the following conditions is valid: (i’) for all -mod-A; (ii’) for all -mod-A; (iii’) for all -mod-A. Received 16 June 1998  相似文献

We present a concrete model of the embedding due to Pastijn and Yan of a semigroup S into an idempotent generated semigroup now in terms of a Rees matrix semigroup over S1. The paper starts with a comparison of the two embeddings. Studying the properties of this embedding, we prove that it is functorial. We show that a number of usual semigroup properties is preserved by this embedding, such as periodicity, finiteness, the cryptic property, regularity, complete semisimplicity and various local properties, but complete regularity is not one of them.  相似文献

 The minimum boundary length density of a lattice-periodic set with given period lattice and area density is determined, together with the extremal sets, and a conjecture on the higher-dimensional analogue is made. In 1986, Kowol and Mitsch studied properties of the so-called natural partial order on T(X), the total transformation semigroup defined on a set X. In particular, they determined when two total transformations are related under this order, and they described the minimal and maximal elements of (T(X), ).  We show that from dimension six onwards (but not in lower dimensions), there are in each dimension flat manifolds with first Betti number equal to zero admitting Anosov diffeomorphisms. On the other hand, it is known that no flat manifolds with first Betti number equal to one support Anosov diffeomorphisms. For each integer k > 1 however, we prove that there is an n-dimensional flat manifold M with first Betti number equal to k carrying an Anosov diffeomorphism if and only if M is a k-torus or n is greater than or equal to k + 2.
