Absolute Continuity and the Uniqueness of the Constructive Functional Calculus

The constructive functional calculus for a sequence of commuting selfadjoint operators on a separable Hilbert space is shown to be independent of the orthonormal basis used in its construction. The proof requires a constructive criterion for the absolute continuity of two positive measures in terms of test functions. Mathematics Subject Classification: 03F60, 46S30, 47S30.     

Characterizations of Riesz spaces with b-property

A Riesz space E is said to have b-property if each subset which is order bounded in E^~~ is order bounded in E. The relationship between b-property and completeness, being a retract and the absolute weak topology |σ|(E^~, E) is studied. Perfect Riesz spaces are characterized in terms of b-property. It is shown that b-property coincides with the Levi property in Dedekind complete Frechet lattices.      

Multiscale Riesz Products and their Support Properties

This work defines and investigates the properties of multiscale Riesz product measures. These are product measures constructed on general locally compact Abelian groups in a process similar to that of the original example of Riesz. The multiscale element of the construction is the use of a general homomorphism of the group in place of the dilation factor. Furthermore, this construction allows for the use of generating functions that are piecewise constant, reminiscent of a wavelet approach, as well as trigonometric polynomials, which is a more classical Fourier approach. Results obtained include the characterization of the mutual absolute continuity or singularity of such Riesz products, in the spirit of Zygmund’s original dichotomy result. In addition, the differences regarding the support properties of measures based on each approach are analyzed and examples are constructed. Functional Calculus for Infinitesimal Generators of Holomorphic Semigroups

We give a functional calculus formula for infinitesimal generators of holomorphic semigroups of operators on Banach spaces, which involves the Bochner–Riesz kernels of such generators. The rate of smoothness of operating functions is related to the exponent of the growth on vertical lines of the operator norm of the semigroup. The strength of the formula is tested on Poisson and Gauss semigroups inL¹(Rⁿ) andL¹(G), for a stratified Lie groupG. We give also a self-contained theory of smooth absolutely continuous functions on the half line [0, ∞).     

局部紧Abel群上的平移Riesz基和Riesz谱集

设G是局部紧Abel群,Ω■G是Haar可测集,L~2(Ω)是Ω上Haar平方可积函数构成的Hilbert空间,PW_Ω(G):={f∈L~2(G):supp f(ξ)■Ω}是G上的Paley-Wiener空间.本文研究Paley-Wiener空间PW_Ω(G)上平移Riesz基和Riesz谱集Ω之间的关系.     

The Riesz decomposition property for the space of regular operators

If and are Banach lattices such that is separable and has the countable interpolation property, then the space of all continuous regular operators has the Riesz decomposition property. This result is a positive answer to a conjecture posed by A. W. Wickstead.
