The collisionally activated dissociation mass spectra of the protonated and alkali metal cationized ions of a triazole-epothilone analogue were studied in a Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometer. The fragmentation pathway of the protonated ion was characterized by the loss of the unit of C3H4O3. However, another fragmentation pathway with the loss of C3H2O2 was identified for the complex ions with Na+, K+, Rb+, and Cs+. The branching ratio of the second pathway increases with the increment of the size of alkali metal ions. Theoretical calculations based on density functional theory (DFT) method show the difference in the binding position of the proton and the metal ions. With the increase of the radii of the metal ions, progressive changes in the macrocycle of the compound are induced, which cause the corresponding change in their fragmentation pathways. It has also been found that the interaction energy between the compound and the metal ion decreases with increase in the size of the latter. This is consistent with the experimental results, which show that cesiated complexes readily eject Cs+ when subject to collisions.  相似文献

Protonation and alkali-metal cation adduction are the most important ionization processes in soft-ionization mass spectrometry.Studies on the fragmentation mechanism of protonated and alkali-metal-cationized compounds in tandem mass spectrometry are essential and helpful for structural analysis. In some cases,it was often observed that a compound attached by different alkali-metal cations(or proton)exhibits similar fragmentation patterns but the relative abundances of product ions are different. This difference was considered to derive from the different electrostatic interactions of alkali-metal cations(or the bonded effect of proton)with the analyte. The alkali-metal cation with a smaller ionic radius shows stronger electrostatic interaction with the molecule because of its higher charge density. In addition, the bonded effect of the proton is stronger than the electrostatic interaction of the alkali-metal cation. In the present study, which used McLafferty-type rearrangements of even-electron ions([M+Cat]+,Cat=H,Li,Na,K)as model reactions, the effect of cation size in mass spectrometric fragmentation reactions is highlighted. These considerations were also successfully applied to interpret the similar but distinct fragmentation behavior of proton and alkali-metal cation adducts of a synthetic compound(2-(acetamido(phenyl)methyl)-3-oxobutanoate)and a drug(entecavir).  相似文献

A study was carried out on the fragmentation of 12 protonated O,O-dimethyl O-aryl phosphorothionates by tandem quadrupole mass spectrometry. Some of the studied compounds are used in agriculture as pesticides. Energy-resolved and pressure-resolved experiments were performed on the [M + H]+ ions to investigate the dissociation behavior of the ions with various amounts of internal energy. On collisionally activated dissociation, the [M + H]+ ions decompose to yield the [M + H ? CH3OH]+, (CH3O)2PS+ (m/z 125), and (CH3O)2PO+ (m/z 109) ions as major fragments. The ions [M + H ? CH3OH]+ and (CH3O)2PS+ probably arise from the [M + H]+ ions of the O,O-dimethyl O-aryl phosphorothionates with the proton on the sulfur or on the oxygen of the phenoxy group. The origin of the hydroxy proton of the methanol fragment was in many cases, surprisingly, the phenyl group and not the reagent gas. This was confirmed by using deuterated isobutane, C4D10, as reagent gas in Cl. The fragment ions (CH3O)2PO+ and [ZPhS]+ are the results of thiono-thiolo rearrangement reaction. The precursor ion for the ion (CH3O)2PO+ arises from most compounds upon chemical ionization, whereas the precursor ion for the ion [ZPhS]+ arises only from a few compounds upon chemical ionization. The observed fragments imply that several sites carry the extra proton and that these sites get the proton usually upon ionization. The stability order and some characteristics of three protomers of O,O-dimethyl O-phenyl phosphorothionate were investigated by ab initio calculations at the RHF/3-21G* level of theory.  相似文献

We performed ab initio calculations for protonated P2, N2, NP, and their isoelectronic species, i.e., CO, CS, SiO, and SiS. The proton affinities at different sites were examined to characterize special properties of the second-row elements. To tune the acid strength, we also studied the Li+ and Na+ affinities for comparison. These systems are isovalent to acetylene and disilyne; their structural features such as linear or bent is of special interest. All calculations were performed by the GAUSSIAN 92 program using the 6-31G** basis set and the basis set at the Hartree-Fock and MP2(full) levels. Bent structures were found for XP+2, CSH+, and SiSX (X = H+, Li+, Na+). © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Molecular weights of macrolide antibiotics can be determined from either (M + H)+ or (M + Met)+, the latter desorbed from alkali metal salt-saturated matrices. The ion chemistry of macrolides, as determined by tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS), is different for ions produced as metallated than those formed as (M + H)+ species. An explanation for these differences is the location of the charge. For protonated species, the charge is most likely situated on a functional group with high proton affinity, such as the dimethylamino group of the ammo sugar. The alkali metal ion, however, is bonded to the highly oxygenated aglycone. As a result, the collision-activated dissociation spectra of protonated macrolides are simple with readily identifiable fragment ions in both the high and low mass regions but no fragments in the middle mass range. In contrast, the cationized species give complex spectra with many abundant ions, most of which are located in the high mass range. The complementary nature of the fragmentation of these two species recommends the study of both by MS/MS when determining the structure or confirming the identity of these biomaterials.  相似文献

The imidazol side group of histidine has two nitrogen atoms capable of being protonated or participating in metal binding. Hence, histidine can take on various metal-bound and protonated forms in proteins. Because of its variable structural state, histidine often functions as a key amino acid residue in enzymatic reactions. Ab initio (HF and MP2) calculations were done in modeling the cation (H+, Li+, Na+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+) interaction with side chain of histidine. The region selectivity of metal ion complexation is controlled by the affinity of the side of attack. In the imidazol unite of histidine the ring nitrogen has much higher metal ion (as well as proton) affinity. The complexation energies with the model systems decrease in the following order: Mg2+ > Ca2+ > Li+ > Na+ > K+. The variation of the bond lengths and the extent of charge transfer upon complexation correlate well with the computed interaction energies.  相似文献

Tetracycline antibiotics, tetracycline, chlortetracycline, demeclocycline, doxycycline, minocycline, methacycline, oxytetracycline, and anhydrotetracycline, are examined by electrospray ionization in a quadrupole ion trap. Studies were undertaken to evaluate the use of metal complexation as an alternative to conventional proton attachment. A variety of metal cationization processes, including attachment of Na+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Co2+, Ni2+, and Cu2+ were probed. Infrared multiphoton photodissociation and collisionally activated dissociation (CAD) were compared for generation of diagnostic fragmentation patterns of protonated and metal cationized tetracyclines. The photodissociation spectra provide a more informative signature, including more low mass ions that are not observed upon CAD. The metal complexes dissociate by pathways that are similar to those observed for the protonated molecules.  相似文献

Density functional theory calculation was carried out on cation‐π complexes formed by cations [M = H+, Li+, Na+, K+, Be2+, Mg2+, and Ca2+] and π systems of annelated benzene. The cation‐π bonding energy of Be2+ or Mg2+ with annelated benzene is very strong in comparison with the common cation‐π intermolecular interaction, and the bonding energies follow the order Be2+ > Mg2+ > Ca2+ > Li+ > Na+ > K+. Similarly, the interaction energies follow the trend 1‐M < 2‐M < 3‐M for all the metal cations considered. These outcomes may be due to the weak interactions of the metal cations with C? H and the interactions of metal cations with π in addition to the nature of a metal cation. We have also investigated on all the possible substituted sites, and find that the metal ion tends to interact with all ring atoms while proton prefers to bind covalently to one of the ring carbons. The binding of metal cations with annelated benzenes has striking effect on nuclear magnetic resonance chemical shifts using the gauge independent atomic orbital method. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The structure and fragmentation of eight [C6H13O] + ions formed by protonation of C6H12O carbonyl compounds in the gas phase have been investigated using isotopic labeling and metastable ion studies to investigate the fragmentation reactions and collisional dissociation studies to probe ion structures. Protonated 3-methyl-2-pentanone and protonated 2-methyl-3-pentanone readily-interconvert by pinacolic-retro-pinacolic rearrangements; the remaining six ions represent stable ion structures, although in many cases fragmentation is preceded by pinacolic-type rearrangements. Unimolecular (metastable ion) fragmentation of the [C6H13O] + species occurs by elimination of H2O, C3H6, C4H8 and C2H4O. The last three elimination reactions appear to occur through the intermediacy of a proton-bound complex of a carbonyl compound and an olefin, with the proton residing with the species of higher proton affinity on decomposition of the complex.  相似文献

Atmospheric pressure chemical ionizations (APCIs) of morphine, codeine, and thebaine were studied in a corona discharge ion source using ion mobility spectrometry (IMS) at temperature range of 100°C–200°C. Density functional theory (DFT) at the B3LYP/6‐311++G(d,p) and M062X/6‐311++G(d,p) levels of theory were used to interpret the experimental data. It was found that in the presence of H3O+ as reactant ion (RI), ionization of morphine and codeine proceeds via both the protonation and carbocation formation, whereas thebaine participates only in protonation. Carbocation formation (fragmentation) was diminished with decrease in the temperature. At lower temperatures, proton‐bound dimers of the compounds were also formed. Ammonia was used as a dopant to produce NH4+ as an alternative RI. In the presence of NH4+, proton transfer from ammonium ion to morphine, codeine, and thebaine was the dominant mechanism of ionization. However, small amount of ammonium attachment was also observed. The theoretical calculations showed that nitrogen atom of the molecules is the most favorable proton acceptor site while the oxygen atoms participate in ammonium attachment. Furthermore, formation of the carbocations is because of the water elimination from the protonated forms of morphine and codeine.  相似文献

We report the energy‐dependent fragmentation patterns upon protonation of eight sulfides (organosulfur compounds) in Proton Transfer Reaction‐Mass Spectrometry (PTR‐MS). Studies were carried out, both, experimentally with PTR‐MS, and with theoretical quantum‐chemical methods. Charge retention usually occurred at the sulfur‐containing fragment for short chain sulfides. An exception to this is found in the unsaturated monosulfide allylmethyl sulfide (AMS), which preferentially fragmented to a carbo‐cation at m/z 41, C3H5+. Quantum chemical calculations (DFT with the M062X functional 6‐31G(d,p) basis sets) for the fragmentation reaction pathways of AMS indicated that the most stable protonated AMS cation at m/z 89 is a protonated (cyclic) thiirane, and that the fragmentation reaction pathways of AMS in the drift tube are kinetically controlled. The protonated parent ion MH+ is the predominant product in PTR‐MS, except for diethyl disulfide at high collisional energies. The saturated monosulfides R‐S‐R’ (with R<R’) have little or no fragmentation, at the same time the most abundant fragment ion is the smaller R‐S+ fragment. The saturated disulfides R‐S‐S‐R display more fragmentation than the saturated monosulfides, the most common fragments are disulfide containing fragments or long‐chain carbo‐cations. The results rationalize fragmentation data for saturated monosulfides and disulfides and represent a detailed analysis of the fragmentation of an unsaturated sulfide. Apart from the theoretical interest, the results are in support of the quantitative analysis of sulfides with PTR‐MS, all the more so as PTR‐MS is one of a few techniques that allow for ultra‐low quantitative analysis of sulfides. Protonated amino acids and derivatives RCH(NH2)C(+O)X · H+ (X = OH, NH2, OCH3) do not form stable acylium ions on loss of HX, but rather the acylium ion eliminates CO to form the immonium ion RCH = NH 2 + . By contrast, protonated dipeptide derivatives H2NCH(R)C(+O)NHCH(R′)C(+O)X · H+ [X = OH, OCH3, NH2, NHCH(R″)COOH] form stable B2 ions by elimination of HX. These B2 ions fragment on the metastable ion time scale by elimination of CO with substantial kinetic energy release (T 1/2 = 0.3–0.5 eV). Similarly, protonated N-acetyl amino acid derivatives CH3C(+O)NHCH(R′)C(+O)X · H+ [X = OH, OCH3, NH2, NHCH(R″)COOH] form stable B ions by loss of HX. These B ions also fragment unimolecularly by loss of CO with T 1/2 values of ~ 0.5 eV. These large kinetic energy releases indicate that a stable configuration of the B ions fragments by way of activation to a reacting configuration that is higher in energy than the products, and some of the fragmentation exothermicity of the final step is partitioned into kinetic energy of the separating fragments. We conclude that the stable configuration is a protonated oxazolone, which is formed by interaction of the developing charge (as HX is lost) with the N-terminus carbonyl group and that the reacting configuration is the acyclic acylium ion. This conclusion is supported by the similar fragmentation behavior of protonated 2-phenyl-5-oxazolone and the B ion derived by loss of H-Gly-OH from protonated C6H5C(+O)-Gly-Gly-OH. In addition, ab initio calculations on the simplest B ion, nominally HC(+O)NHCH2CO+, show that the lowest energy structure is the protonated oxazolone. The acyclic acylium isomer is 1.49 eV higher in energy than the protonated oxazolone and 0.88 eV higher in energy than the fragmentation products, HC(+O)N+H = CH2 + CO, which is consistent with the kinetic energy releases measured.  相似文献

Cationization is a valuable tool to enable mass spectrometric studies on neutral transition‐metal complexes (e.g., homogenous catalysts). However, knowledge of potential impacts on the molecular structure and catalytic reactivity induced by the cationization is indispensable to extract information about the neutral complex. In this study, we cationize a bimetallic complex [AuZnCl3] with alkali metal ions (M+) and investigate the charged adducts [AuZnCl3M]+ by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI‐MS). Infrared multiple photon dissociation (IR‐MPD) in combination with density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal a μ3 binding motif of all alkali ions to the three chlorido ligands. The cationization induces a reorientation of the organic backbone. Collision‐induced dissociation (CID) studies reveal switches of fragmentation channels by the alkali ion and by the CID amplitude. The Li+ and Na+ adducts prefer the sole loss of ZnCl2, whereas the K+, Rb+, and Cs+ adducts preferably split off MCl2ZnCl. Calculated energetics along the fragmentation coordinate profiles allow us to interpret the experimental findings to a level of subtle details. The Zn2+ cation wins the competition for the nitrogen coordination sites against K+, Rb+, and Cs+ , but it loses against Li+ and Na+ in a remarkable deviation from a naive hard and soft acids and bases (HSAB) concept. The computations indicate expulsion of MCl2ZnCl rather than of MCl and ZnCl2.  相似文献

In ab initio calculations, we determined the most probable routes of decomposition of the [CF3Cl]+, [CF2Cl2]+, [CFCl3]+, [CCl4]+ molecular ions of freons and [C3H8]+ ions of hydrocarbons formed by collision of neutral molecules with protons with energies of the order of 10 keV. The calculated potential surface sections are compared on a qualitative level with the probability of various ion fragments in experiments on fragmentation. The role of the charge transfer dynamics between the proton and the molecule is discussed.  相似文献

The complexes of the peptides (Pep) bradykinin (RPPGFSPFR), des-Arg1-bradykinin, and des-Arg9-bradykinin with the metal (M) ions Na+, K+, Cs+, Cu+, Ag+, Co2+, Ni2+, and Zn2+ are generated in the gas phase by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization and the structures of the corresponding [Pep + M+]+ or [Pep − H+ + M2+]+ cations are probed by postsource decay (PSD) mass spectrometry. The PSD spectra depend significantly on the metal ion attached; moreover, the various metal ions respond differently to the presence or absence of a basic arginine residue. The Na+ and K+ adducts of all three peptides mainly produce N-terminal sequence ions upon PSD; the fragments observed point out that these metal ions are anchored by the PPGF segment and not the arginine residue(s). In contrast, the adducts of Cu+ and Ag+ show a strong dependence on the position of Arg; complexes of des-Arg1-Pep (which contains a C-terminal Arg) produce primarily yn ions whereas those of des-Arg9-Pep generate exclusively an and bn ions. These trends are consistent with Cu+ ligation by Arg’s guanidine group. The [Pep + Cs+]+ ions mainly yield Cs+; a second significant fragmentation occurs only if a C-terminal arginine is present and involves elimination of this arginine’s side chain plus water. This reaction is rationalized through a salt bridge mechanism. The most prominent PSD products from [Pep − H+ + Co2+]+ and [Pep − H+ + Ni2+]+ contain at least one phenylalanine residue, revealing a marked preference for these divalent metal ions to bind to aromatic rings; the fragmentation patterns of the complexes further suggest that Co2+ and Ni2+ bind to deprotonated amide nitrogens. The coordination chemistry of Zn2+ combines features found with the divalent Co2+/Ni2+ as well as the monovalent Cu+/Ag+ transition metal ions. Generally, the structure and fragmentation behavior of each complex reflects the intrinsic coordination preferences of the corresponding metal ion.  相似文献

N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) have garnered much attention due to their unique properties, such as strong σ-donating and π-accepting abilities, as well as their transition-metal-like reactivity toward small molecules. In 2015, we discovered that NHCs can react with nitric oxide (NO) gas to form radical adducts that resemble transition metal nitrosyl complexes. To elucidate the analogy between NHC and transition metal NO adducts, here we have undertaken a systematic investigation of the electron- and proton-transfer chemistry of [NHC−NO]⋅ (N-heterocyclic carbene nitric oxide radical) compounds. We have accessed a suite of compounds, comprised of [NHC−NO]+, [NHC−NO], [NHC−NOH]0, and [NHC−NHOH]+ species. In particular, [NHC−NO] was isolated as potassium and lithium ion adducts. Most interestingly, a monomeric potassium [NHC−NO] compound was isolated with the assistance of 18-crown-6, which is the first instance of a monomeric alkali N-oxyl compound to the best of our knowledge. Our results demonstrate that [NHC−NO]⋅ exhibits redox behavior broadly similar to metal nitrosyl complexes, which opens up more possibilities for utilizing NHCs to build on the known reactivity of metal complexes.  相似文献

In this work, we describe two different methods for generating protonated S-nitrosocysteine in the gas phase. The first method involves a gas-phase reaction of protonated cysteine with t-butylnitrite, while the second method uses a solution-based transnitrosylation reaction of cysteine with S-nitrosoglutathione followed by transfer of the resulting S-nitrosocysteine into the gas phase by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS). Independent of the way it was formed, protonated S-nitrosocysteine readily fragments via bond homolysis to form a long-lived radical cation of cysteine (Cys•+), which fragments under collision-induced dissociation (CID) conditions via losses in the following relative abundance order: •COOH ≫ CH2S > •CH2SH-H2S. Deuterium labeling experiments were performed to study the mechanisms leading to these pathways. DFT calculations were also used to probe aspects of the fragmentation of protonated S-nitrosocysteine and the radical cation of cysteine. NO loss is found to be the lowest energy channel for the former ion, while the initially formed distonic Cys•+ with a sulfur radical site undergoes proton and/or H atom transfer reactions that precede the losses of CH2S, •COOH, •CH2SH, and H2S.  相似文献
