We report a study on the main features of a 1.48-mum pumped erbium-doped fiber laser, such as threshold pump power, output power, and slope efficiency. In particular we have focused on its dependence on active fiber length. We employed an all-fiber laser configuration, which included mirrors directly coated onto the polished fiber endfaces. Launched pump power and laser output power were introduced and extracted, respectively, from the laser cavity by means of couplers. Our measure ments show the existence of an optimum erbium-doped fiber length, where threshold power reaches minimum and output power maximum.  相似文献

In this contribution we report the research and development of 1.55 μm InGaAsP/InP gain-coupled DFB laser with an improved injection-carrier induced grating and of high performance 1.3 μm and 1.55 μm InGaAsP/InP FP and DFB lasers for communications. Long wavelength strained MQW laser diodes with a very low threshold current (7–10 mA) have been fabricated. Low pressure MOVPE technology has been employed for the preparation of the layered structure. A novel gain-coupled DFB laser structure with an improved injection-carrier modulated grating has been proposed and fabricated. The laser structures have been prepared by hybrid growth of MOVPE and LPE techniques and reasonably good characteristics have been achieved for resultant lasers. High performance 1.3 μm and 1.55 μm InGaAsP/InP DFB lasers have successfully been developed for CATV and trunk line optical fiber communication. We report the results from the characterization and optimization of a stable erbium-doped fiber ring laser that uses two optical filters. The observed laser performance and the measured longitudinal mode patterns are presented. The influence of the combination of the two optical filters on the mode suppression is evaluated. We obtained the matched condition for operation of the optical filters that most improved the laser performance. An estimate of the relative intensity noise due to the introduction of the laser in a communication system is also presented. As a consequence of the mode suppression, a sharp laser linewidth narrowing is con firmed.  相似文献

A novel bit-rate adaptive method, by varying the optical sampling rates alternatively, is proposed in this paper for optical performance monitoring. Firstly, the theoretical model and the differential software-synchronized algorithm are developed. Then, the results verify that different channel bit-rate can be estimated with high precision irrespective of the modulation formats and signal distortion caused by chromatic dispersion and nonlinearity along the fiber link. Employing the proposed bit-rate adaptive method, the eye diagrams and Q values of 10 Gbit/s, 40 Gbit/s and even higher bit-rate signal can be monitored by a single optical performance monitoring system without any prior knowledge about bit-rate or signal period. The method we propose in this paper has the advantage that different channel bit-rates can be adaptively estimated and the differential software-synchronized algorithm is much simpler.  相似文献

We report a polymer waveguide module that provides bidirectional communication over a single plastic optical fiber (POF) with dual visible wavelength LEDs. The module is constructed using light-induced self-written waveguides, which enables a three-dimensional optical circuit for visible wavelength division multiplexing to be fabricated by an extremely simple process. We demonstrated 250 Mbits/s communication using a pair of these modules that each contained one green (lambda = 495 nm) and one red (lambda = 650 nm) LEDs by measuring the bit error rates. The results indicate that the system could transmit over more than 20 m of POF in full duplex mode.  相似文献

This paper deals with the placement of semiconductor optical amplifier for 10 Gb/s non-return to zero format in single mode and dispersion-compensated fiber link. We investigated post-, pre- and symmetrical power compensation methods for different positions of the SOA in fiber link. The effect of increase in signal input power for the three power compensation methods is compared in terms of eye diagram, bit error rate, eye closure penalty and output received power. It is found that the post-power compensation method is superior to pre- and symmetrical power compensation methods. Further, the effect of variation in length of the standard single mode fiber and dispersion-compensated fiber for three power compensation configurations has also been observed. The impact of eye closure penalty is observed for large transmission distances for different signal input powers.  相似文献

We report efficient laser demonstration and spectroscopic characteristics of a Yb-doped Y2O3 (or Y3Al5O12) nanoparticle silica fiber developed by conventional fiber fabrication technique. The spectroscopy study evidences modification in the environment of Yb ions by the Y2O3 nanoparticles. As a result, photodarkening induced loss is reduced by 20 times relative to Yb-doped aluminosilicate fibers. The fiber is suitable for power scaling with good laser slope efficiency of 79%.  相似文献

The comprehensive characters of delay time and delay bandwidth with distortion, signal wavelength dependence and delay bandwidth product in fiber optical parametric amplifier are investigated theoretically when the pump locates at anomalous dispersion region. The delay character of single pulse, data stream with certain bit pattern and pseudo random data stream are analyzed comprehensively. In this category of fiber optical parametric amplifier, the delay time and delay bandwidth product vary from signal wavelengths and bit rates. For the same nonlinear coefficient, pump power and fiber length, the diverse dependences of bit pattern in different signal wavelengths are found by numerical simulation. The impacts of pump power and fiber length on the delay character and distortion are also discussed. These relations are conductive to the design of slow light based on fiber optical parametric amplifier in telecommunication waveband.  相似文献

In this paper we have presented long period fiber grating (LPFG) as temperature sensor. Temperature based sensors have found a number of applications in commercial and industrial fields. In LPFG based temperature sensors, they respond to shift in various peak resonant wavelengths corresponding to various attenuation bands of the transmission spectrum. Temperature effect on the various attenuation bands of a LPFG have been investigated to create a highly sensitive measurement device. The temperature sensitivities of various attenuation bands of a LPFG over the wavelength region of 1.1–1.7 μm, for a grating period of 280 μm period, are obtained by monitoring the wavelength shift of each peak resonant wavelength with temperature increment of 20 °C, ranging from 0 °C to 100 °C.  相似文献

We present a novel reference compensation method for eliminating environmental noise in interferometric wavelength shift demodulation for dynamic fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors. By employing a shielded wavelength-division-multiplexed reference FBG in the system, the environmental noise is measured from the reference channel, and then subtracted from the demodulation result of each sensor channel. An approximate 40 dB reduction of the environmental noise has been experimentally achieved over a frequency range from 20 Hz to 2 kHz. This method is also suitable for the elimination of broadband environmental noise. The corresponding FBG sensor array system proposed in this paper has shown a wavelength resolution of .  相似文献

A theoretical analysis of stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) in linear cavity Yb3+-doped double-clad fiber lasers is presented by solving the steady-state rate equations with the SBS. The effects of cavity length, fiber core diameter, input mirror reflectivity at Stokes wavelength, Yb3+ concentration and laser linewidth on the SBS are discussed. Numerical results show that the SBS threshold power can be improved by shortening the cavity length, using large mode area fiber, reducing the input mirror reflectivity at Stokes wavelength, lowering the Yb3+ concentration and broadening the laser linewidth, and the influence of the laser linewidth on the SBS threshold power is more noticeable than other system parameters.  相似文献

An improved harmonic mode-locked Semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) fiber ring lasers has been presented and numerically investigated based on the self-reproduction theory. The numerical result shows that a narrower optical pulse train with a more symmetrical-temporal shape can be obtained, when the modulation SOA is DC biased on high current, whereas the gain SOA is DC biased on the low current functions as a gain compensator in the experimental setup. Also, the system parameters effects on the characteristic of the harmonic mode-locked pulse have been investigated.  相似文献

基于两个在驱动混沌信号注入下的响应半导体激光器之间的混沌同步, 提出了一种新型的可实现信息双向、长距离保密传输的系统, 并建立了相应的理论模型. 利用该理论模型, 研究了系统的双向传输性能、 安全性能以及系统性能随传输距离的变化. 结果表明: 两个响应激光器在受到发自同一驱动混沌激光器的混沌光注入下, 其混沌输出虽然与注入混沌信号相差很大, 但两个响应激光器的混沌输出却能实现非常好的无时间延迟的等时同步; 对窃听者可能获取信息的各个途径进行了考察, 结果显示该系统具有很好的安全性; 采用普通单模光纤作为传输信道, 信息经过50 km传输后, 解调信息Q因子可达到6以上; 采用色散位移光纤, 信息经过200 km的传输, 解调信息Q因子还可达6以上.  相似文献

Characteristics of a tunable wavelength filter in extrinsic Fabry-Perot of optical fiber are studied both theoretically and experimentally in this paper. Using a slabby PZT-51, a tuning range of over 10nm is achieved by changing the distance between two fiber end faces. We chose a SLED to provide incident light into the filter and achieved a filter with narrow passband(subnanometer bandwidth). The basic characteristics of the filter, as well as the special properties of its output spectrum, are discussed and analyzed.  相似文献
