We report the results from the characterization and optimization of a stable erbium-doped fiber ring laser that uses two optical filters. The observed laser performance and the measured longitudinal mode patterns are presented. The influence of the combination of the two optical filters on the mode suppression is evaluated. We obtained the matched condition for operation of the optical filters that most improved the laser performance. An estimate of the relative intensity noise due to the introduction of the laser in a communication system is also presented. As a consequence of the mode suppression, a sharp laser linewidth narrowing is con firmed.  相似文献

Stable soliton propagation in a system with linear and nonlinear gain and spectral filtering is investigated. Different types of exact analytical solutions of the cubic and the quintic complex Ginzburg-Landau equation (CGLE) are reviewed. The conditions to achieve stable soliton propagation are analyzed within the domain of validity of soliton perturbation theory. We derive an analytical expression defining the region in the parameter space where stable pulselike solutions exist, which agrees with the numerical results obtained by other authors. An analytical expression for the soliton amplitude corresponding to the quintic CGLE is also obtained. We show that the minimum value of this amplitude depends only on the ratio between the linear gain and the quintic gain saturating term.  相似文献

We report a study on the main features of a 1.48-mum pumped erbium-doped fiber laser, such as threshold pump power, output power, and slope efficiency. In particular we have focused on its dependence on active fiber length. We employed an all-fiber laser configuration, which included mirrors directly coated onto the polished fiber endfaces. Launched pump power and laser output power were introduced and extracted, respectively, from the laser cavity by means of couplers. Our measure ments show the existence of an optimum erbium-doped fiber length, where threshold power reaches minimum and output power maximum.  相似文献

提出了结构简单的光纤布喇格光栅(FBG)双波长全光自动增益箝制方案,并进行了相关实验.结果表明,在三种不同的箝制波长组合1535.64nm+1562.68nm、1530.48nm+1562.68nm、1530.48 nm+1551.36 nm条件下,1540 nm信号的输出增益大小和输入信号功率动态范围几乎一致.对应此三种箝制波长组合,环路内的损耗分别为:14.7 dB、15 dB、15 dB.由此证明,在相同泵浦条件和环路损耗条件下,此三种不同箝制波长组合具有近似相同的箝制效果.而1551.36 nm+1562.68 nm箝制波长组合得到的结果相差甚远.此结果说明,在设计双波长全光自动增益箝制掺铒光纤放大器(OAGC-EDFA)时,为了取得足够大的信号增益,两箝制波长的波长间隔应尽量较大.  相似文献

We investigate the transient behaviors of the dispersion and the absorption in a three-level GaAs/AlGaAs semiconductor quantum well system. It is found that the Fano interference and the energy splitting affect the transient behaviors dramatically, which can be used to manipulate efficiently the gain-absorption coefficient and group velocity of the probe field. The dependence of transient electron population on the Fano interference and the energy splitting is also discussed.  相似文献

Using feedback theory, we analyze the gain of an all-optical gain-clamped praseodymium-doped fluoride fiber amplifier (AOGC PDFFA) for eight-channel multiwavelength operation. We demonstrate by numerical simulation that gain stabilization is achieved when the open-loop gain is higher than the feedback path attenuation. If this condition is fulfilled, the gain stabilizes to a value equal to the feedback path attenuation and is not influenced by the pump power, input signal power, number of channels, doped fiber length, or any other doped fiber parameter. In our setup the AOGC PDFFA noise figure is 0.12 dB lower than the open-loop PDFFA noise figure.  相似文献

The analytic solutions of coupled-mode equations of four-wave mixings (FWMs) are achieved by means of the undepleted approximation and the perturbation method. The self-stability mechanism of the FWM processes is theoretically proved and is applicable to design a new kind of triple-wavelength erbium-doped fiber lasers. The proposed fiber lasers with excellent stability and uniformity are demonstrated by using a flat-near-zero-dispersion high-nonlinear photonic-crystal-fiber. The significant excellence is analyzed in theory and is proved in experiment. Our fiber lasers can stably lase three waves with the power ripple of less than 0.4 dB.  相似文献

The oscillator strength and the linear and third order nonlinear refractive index changes of a cylindrical quantum well wire under intense non-resonant laser field have been investigated within the effective mass-approximation by using a finite element method. We found that the laser amplitude, the incident light and the intersubband relaxation time have an important influence on the refractive index changes.  相似文献

The effect of laser field on the binding energy in a GaAs/Ga11−xAlxAs quantum well within the single band effective mass-approximation is investigated. Exciton binding energy is calculated as a function of well width with the renormalization of the semiconductor gap and conduction valence effective masses. The calculation includes the laser dressing effects on both the impurity Coulomb potential and the confinement potential. The valence-band anisotropy is included in our theoretical model. The 2D Hartree–Fock spatial dielectric function and the polaronic effects have been employed in our calculations. We investigate that reduction of binding energy in a doped quantum well due to screening effect and the intense laser field leads to semiconductor–metal transition.  相似文献

We theoretically investigate the hybrid absorptive-dispersive optical bistability and multistability in a four-level inverted-Y quantum well system inside a unidirectional ring cavity. We find that the coupling field, the pumping field as well as the cycling field can affect the optical bistability and multistability dramatically, which can be used to manipulate efficiently the threshold intensity and the hysteresis loop. The effects of the relative phase and the electronic cooperation parameter on the OB and OM are also studied. Our study is much more practical than its atomic counterpart due to its flexible design and the wide adjustable parameters. Thus, it may provide some new possibilities for technological applications in optoelectronics and solid-state quantum information science.  相似文献

A systematic study of binding energy of the ground state of a hydrogenic donor in a quantum well is calculated in the presence of a uniform electric field for different measure of laser intensities. Binding energy of the ground state of a donor is calculated, within the effective mass approximation, with the Bessel and Airy functions. Polarizability of a laser dressed donor impurity in the presence of electric field is reported. It is observed that the polarizability (i) increases as intensity of the laser field increases (ii) increases with the electric field strength and (iii) increases drastically when both the fields are applied. The dependence of the donor binding energy on the well width, the laser field intensity and the electric field is discussed. Our results are in good agreement with the previous investigations for other heterostructures in the presence of laser intensity.  相似文献

Optical properties of the GaNAs/GaAs triple quantum well structures were characterized by using photoreflectance and photoluminescence spectroscopy at different temperatures. The excitonic interband transitions of the triple quantum well systems were observed in the spectral range above hν=Eg(GaNxAs1−x). A matrix transfer algorithm was used to match the GaNxAs1−x/GaAs boundary conditions and calculate the triple quantum well subband energies numerically for theoretical comparison. The internal electric field in the system was extracted from Franz-Keldysh oscillations in the photoreflectance spectra. The influences of the annealing treatment on the transition energy and the internal electric field are also analyzed.  相似文献

The binding energy of laser dressed donor impurity is calculated under the influence of a magnetic field in a quantum well. The binding energy of the ground state of a donor is investigated, within the single band effective mass approximation, variationally for different concentrations at the well centre. The effect of laser and magnetic fields on diamagnetic susceptibility of the hydrogenic donor is reported. The Landau energy levels of electrons in the quantum well as a function of magnetic field are reported. The results show that the diamagnetic susceptibility (i) decreases drastically as intensity of the laser field increases (ii) increases with the magnetic field strength (iii) decreases as the Al-concentration decreases and (iv) a variation of increase in binding energy is observed when non-parabolicity is included and this effect is predominant for narrow wells. Our results are in good agreement with previous investigations for other heterostructures in the presence of laser intensity.  相似文献

An investigation of the laser radiation effects of a hydrogenic impurity in a quantum dot has been performed by using the matrix diagonalization method. The effect of conduction band nonparabolicity on the linear and nonlinear optical properties such as absorption coefficients, and changes in the refractive index are calculated in the Al0.3Ga0.7As/GaAs heterostructure-based symmetric rectangular quantum well under applied hydrostatic pressure and electric field. The electron envelope functions and energies are calculated in the effective mass equation including the conduction band nonparabolicity. The linear and nonlinear optical properties have been calculated in the density matrix formalism with two-level approximation. The conduction band nonparabolicity shifts the positions of the optical properties and decreases their strength compared to those without this correction. Both the optical properties are enhanced with the applied hydrostatic pressure. While the absorption coefficients are bleached under the combined effect of high pressure and electric field, the bleaching effect is reduced when nonparabolicity is included.  相似文献

The optical properties and recombination kinetics of the InGaN/GaN double quantum well (DQW) structures with different well thickness (Lw) have been studied by means of photoluminescence (PL), time-resolved PL, and cathodoluminescence (CL) measurements. With increasing quantum well thickness up to 4 nm, the PL emission energy decreases and the blueshift of the PL emission energy increases with increasing excitation density. On the other hand, the PL emission energy of the DQWs with Lw=16 nm is higher than that of the DQWs with Lw=4 nm, and is independent of the excitation density. With increasing Lw from 1 to 4 nm, the PL decay times increase. In contrast, the decay times of 16 nm DQWs are faster than those of 4 nm DQWs. These different results for 16 nm DQWs such as the blueshift of the emission energy, the decrease of the excitation density dependence, and the increase of recombination rate can be ascribed to the relaxation of the piezoelectric field. We also observed the inhomegeneity in the CL spectra of the DQWs with Lw=1 nm on 1 μm scale.  相似文献

Performance of a Bismuth-based Erbium-doped fiber amplifier is experimentally and theoretically investigated using 1480 nm pumping with double-pass scheme. In the theoretical analysis, the rate and power propagation equations are solved to examine the optimum length for the C-band operation as well as the gain and noise figure characteristics. The calculated small signal gain is 38 dB with gain variation of less than 3 dB. The measured gain is 4 dB lower due to spurious reflections which were ignored in the theoretical analysis. At input signal power of 0 dBm, a gain of 14.5 dB is obtained experimentally with gain variation of less than 1 dB within the wavelength region from 1530 to 1565 nm. The noise figure is less than 12 dB within this region.  相似文献
