An analysis is carried out to study the steady two-dimensional stagnation-point flow and heat transfer from a warm, laminar liquid flow to a melting stretching/shrinking sheet. The governing partial differential equations are converted into ordinary differential equations by similarity transformation, before being solved numerically using the Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg method. Results for the skin friction coefficient, local Nusselt number, velocity profiles as well as temperature profiles are presented for different values of the governing parameters. Effects of the melting parameter, stretching/shrinking parameter and Prandtl number on the flow and heat transfer characteristics are thoroughly examined. Different from a stretching sheet, it is found that the solutions for a shrinking sheet are non-unique.  相似文献

Research on flow and heat transfer of hybrid nanofluids has gained great significance due to their efficient heat transfer capabilities. In fact, hybrid nanofluids are a novel type of fluid designed to enhance heat transfer rate and have a wide range of engineering and industrial applications.Motivated by this evolution,a theoretical analysis is performed to explore the flow and heat transport characteristics of Cu/Al2O3 hybrid nanofluids driven by a stretching/shrinking geometry.Further, this work focuses on the physical impacts of thermal stratification as well as thermal radiation during hybrid nanofluid flow in the presence of a velocity slip mechanism. The mathematical modelling incorporates the basic conservation laws and Boussinesq approximations. This formulation gives a system of governing partial differential equations which are later reduced into ordinary differential equations via dimensionless variables. An efficient numerical solver, known as bvp4c in MATLAB,is utilized to acquire multiple(upper and lower)numerical solutions in the case of shrinking flow. The computed results are presented in the form of flow and temperature fields. The most significant findings acquired from the current study suggest that multiple solutions exist only in the case of a shrinking surface until a critical/turning point. Moreover, solutions are unavailable beyond this turning point, indicating flow separation. It is found that the fluid temperature has been impressively enhanced by a higher nanoparticle volume fraction for both solutions. On the other hand, the outcomes disclose that the wall shear stress is reduced with higher magnetic field in the case of the second solution. The simulation outcomes are in excellent agreement with earlier research, with a relative error of less than 1%.  相似文献

The present work is concerned with the effects of viscous dissipation and heat source/sink on a three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic boundary layer axisymmetric stagnation flow, and the heat transfer of an electrically conducting fluid over a sheet, which shrinks or stretches axisymmetrically in its own plane where the line of the symmetry of the stagnation flow and that of the shrinking (stretching) sheet are, in general, not aligned. The governing equations are transformed into ordinary differential equations by using suitable similarity transformations and then solved numerically by a shooting technique. This investigation explores the conditions of the non-existence, existence and uniqueness of the solutions of the similar equations numerically. It is noted that the range of the velocity ratio parameter, where the similarity solution exists, is increased with the increase of the value of the magnetic parameter. Furthermore, the study reveals that the non-alignment function affects the shrinking sheet more than the stretching sheet. In addition, the numerical results of the velocity profile, temperature profile, skin-friction coefficient, and rate of heat transfer at the sheet are discussed in detail with different parameters.  相似文献

The present work deals with the three-dimensional hybrid Cu-Al2O3/water nanofluid flow towards a stretching/shrinking sheet with the presence of velocity slip and convective conditions. A permeable sheet is considered to maintain the shrinking flow through an adequate wall mass suction. The nonlinear governing boundary layer coupled with energy equations are transformed into the ordinary differential equations using similarity transformation. Numerical computations are performed with the aid of boundary value problem solver (bvp4c) in the Matlab software and the results are presented in the tables and graphs. The boundary layer separation occurs in the shrinking flow region. An upsurge of slip and copper nanoparticle volume fraction parameters can increase the range of first and second solutions whereas Biot parameter give zero impact on delaying the boundary layer separation. However, an increase of Biot and slip parameters can boost the heat transfer rate while opposite result is obtained with the augmentation of the copper solid volume fraction. The stability of both solutions are examined, and it is validated that the first (upper branch) solution is more stable than second solution.  相似文献

The effects of transpiration on forced convection boundary layer non-Newtonian fluid flow and heat transfer toward a linearly stretching surface are reported. The flow is caused solely by the stretching of the sheet in its own plane with a velocity varying linearly with the distance from a fixed point. The constitutive relationship for the Casson fluid is used. The governing partial differential equations corresponding to the momentum and energy equations are converted into non-linear ordinary differential equations by using similarity transformations.Exact solutions of the resulting ordinary differential equations are obtained. The effect of increasing Casson parameter,i.e.,with decreasing yield stress(the fluid behaves as a Newtonian fluid as the Casson parameter becomes large),is to suppress the velocity field. However, the temperature is enhanced as the Casson parameter increases. It is observed that the effect of transpiration is to decrease the fluid velocity as well as the temperature. The skin-friction coefficient is found to increase as the transpiration parameter increases.  相似文献

This paper deals with the boundary layer flow and heat transfer of nanofluids over a stretching wedge with velocity-slip boundary conditions. In this analysis, Hall effect and Joule heating are taken into consideration. Four different types of water-base nanofluids containing copper (Cu), silver (Ag), alumina (Al2O3), and titania (TiO2) nanoparticles are analyzed. The partial differential equations governing the flow and temperature fields are converted into a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations using a similarity transformation. The resulting similarity equations are then solved by using the shooting technique along with the fourth order Runge-Kutta method. The effects of types of nanoparticles, the volume fraction of nanoparticles, the magnetic parameter, the Hall parameter, the wedge angle parameter, and the velocityslip parameter on the velocity and temperature fields are discussed and presented graphically, respectively.  相似文献

The steady magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) mixed convection boundary layer flow of a viscous and electrically conducting fluid near the stagnation-point on a vertical permeable surface is investigated in this study. The velocity of the external flow and the temperature of the plate surface are assumed to vary linearly with the distance from the stagnation-point. The governing partial differential equations are first transformed into ordinary differential equations, before being solved numerically by a finite-difference method. The features of the flow and heat transfer characteristics for different values of the governing parameters are analyzed and discussed. Both assisting and opposing flows are considered. It is found that dual solutions exist for both cases, and the range of the mixed convection parameter for which the solution exists increases with suction.  相似文献

The motivation behind this article is to research the Newtonian liquid flow porous stretching/shrinking sheet utilizing a Brinkman model. The leading system of non-linear partial differential equations relating the article is mapped to standard ordinary differential equations via similarity transformations. Exact result is obtained for velocity. The effects of the Brinkman number or viscosity ratio, slip parameter, Darcy number, suction/injection (mass transpiration) parameter and the mass suction parameter on the velocity dispersion are introduced graphically and talked about. The outcomes have conceivable innovative applications in extrusion process and such other unified zones and in the fluid based frameworks including stretchable materials. Examination of fluid flow past a permeable stretching/shrinking sheet embedded in a non-Darcy permeable medium has been performed for a wide scope of various parameters. Exact solution has been obtained.  相似文献

This article concentrates on the steady magnetohydrodynamic(MHD) flow of viscous nanofluid. The flow is caused by a permeable exponentially stretching surface. An incompressible fluid fills the porous space. A comparative study is made for the nanoparticles namely Copper(Cu), Silver(Ag), Alumina(Al2O3) and Titanium Oxide(TiO2). Water is treated as a base fluid. Convective type boundary conditions are employed in modeling the heat transfer process. The non-linear partial differential equations governing the flow are reduced to an ordinary differential equation by similarity transformations. The obtained equations are then solved for the development of series solutions. Convergence of the obtained series solutions is explicitly discussed. The effects of different parameters on the velocity and temperature profiles are shown and analyzed through graphs.  相似文献

The idea of hybrid nanofluid has triggered many researchers because of its credential in improving the thermal characteristics. Hence, this study performed a mathematical analysis to evaluate the heat generation/absorption effect on magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) flow towards bidirectional exponential stretching/shrinking sheet of hybrid nanofluid. A system of ordinary differential equations was attained through a simplification of governing partial differential equations by employing appropriate similarity transformation and numerically determined via the bvp4c function in MATLAB programming system. The results revealed that the volume fraction of nanoparticle and magnetic parameter applied to the hybrid nanofluid improved the skin friction coefficient in the current work. The rate of heat transfer was strengthened by the intensity of the suction parameter, whereas the appearance of heat generation reduced the heat transfer rate performance. The results are proven to have dual solutions and lead to stability analysis implementation, hence confirming the first solution's achievability.  相似文献

Focus of the present analysis is on the stagnation point flow of hybrid nanofluid with inclined magnetic field over a moving cylinder. The extended version of two models (e.g. Xue model and Yamada-Ota model for hybrid nanofluids) are considered in this study). A mathematical model of hybrid nanofluid flow is developed under certain flow assumptions. Boundary layer approximations are also utilized to model a system of partial differential equations. The systems of partial differential equations are further converted to dimensionless systems of ordinary differential equations by means of suitable similarity transformations. A numerical solution is obtained by applying bv4c technique. Effects of variation in physical parameters involved are depicted through graphs. Skin friction coefficient and Nusselt number are highlighted through tables. Our main objective is to investigate the heat transfer rate on the surface of the nonlinear stretching cylinder. The results of Xue model and Yamada-Ota model for the hybrid nanofluid due to nonlinear stretching cylinder are computed for comparison. In both cases, velocity and temperature profiles are best compared to the decay results.  相似文献

The main interest of the present work is to fundamentally investigate the flow characteristics and heat transfer of a hybrid Cu-Al2O3/water nanofluid due to a radially stretching/shrinking surface with the mutual effects of MHD, suction and Joule heating. The surface is permeable to physically allow the wall mass fluid suction. Tiwari and Das model of nanofluid is used with the new thermophysical properties of hybrid nanofluid to represent the problem. A similarity transformation is adopted to convert the governing model (PDEs) into a nonlinear set of ordinary differential equations (ODEs). A bvp4c solver in MATLAB software is employed to numerically compute the transformed system. The numerical results are discussed and graphically manifested in velocity and temperature profiles, as well as the skin friction coefficient and heat transfer rate with the pertinent values of the dimensionless parameters namely magnetic, Cu volume fraction, suction and Eckert number. The Eckert number has no impact on the boundary layer separation while the higher value of the suction parameter may affect the heat transfer performance. The presence of dual solutions (first and second) is seen on all the profiles within a limited range of the physical parameters. The stability analysis is executed, and it is validated that the first solution is the real solution.  相似文献

A boundary layer analysis is presented for non-Newtonian fluid flow and heat transfer over a nonlinearly stretching surface. The Casson fluid model is used to characterize the non-Newtonian fluid behavior. By using suitable transformations, the governing partial differential equations corresponding to the momentum and energy equations are converted into non-linear ordinary differential equations. Numerical solutions of these equations are obtained with the shooting method. The effect of increasing Casson parameter is to suppress the velocity field. However the temperature is enhanced with the increasing Casson parameter.  相似文献

In this analysis, the magnetohydrodynamic boundary layer flow of Casson fluid over a permeable stretching/shrinking sheet in the presence of wall mass transfer is studied.Using similarity transformations, the governing equations are converted to an ordinary differential equation and then solved analytically. The introduction of a magnetic field changes the behavior of the entire flow dynamics in the shrinking sheet case and also has a major impact in the stretching sheet case. The similarity solution is always unique in the stretching case, and in the shrinking case the solution shows dual nature for certain values of the parameters. For stronger magnetic field, the similarity solution for the shrinking sheet case becomes unique.  相似文献

We investigate the dual solutions for the MHD flow of micropolar fluid over a stretching/shrinking sheet with heat transfer. Suitable relations transform the partial differential equations into the ordinary differential equations.Closed forms solutions are also obtained in terms of confluent hypergeometric function. This is the first attempt to determine the exact solutions for the non-linear equations of MHD micropolar fluid model. It is demonstrated that the microrotation parameter helps in increasing Nusselt number and the dual solutions exist for all fluid flow parameters under consideration. The dual behavior of dimensionless velocity, temperature, microrotation, skin-friction coefficient, local Nusselt number is displayed on graphs and examined.  相似文献

The present work investigated the unsteady stagnation-point flow and heat transfer of a nanofluid containing gyrotactic microorganisms past a permeable moving surface. The similarity transformations produced the mathematical model in the simpler form, which is in the form of ordinary differential equations, and the collocation method solved it numerically. The dual solutions are observable when the governing parameters vary. The decelerating flow and weak effect of suction at the shrinking sheet delays the boundary layer separation. Stability analysis showed that the upper branch solution is a solution with the stabilizing feature while the lower branch solution is an unstable solution which implies the flow with separation. This theoretical study is significantly relevant to microscopic biological propulsion integrated with the nano-based system.  相似文献

The steady two-dimensional MHD stagnation point flow towards a stretching sheet with variable surface temperature is investigated. The governing system of partial differential equations are transformed into ordinary differential equations, which are then solved numerically using a finite-difference scheme known as the Keller-box method. The effects of the governing parameters on the flow field and heat transfer characteristics are obtained and discussed. It is found that the heat transfer rate at the surface increases with the magnetic parameter when the free stream velocity exceeds the stretching velocity, i.e. ε>1, and the opposite is observed when ε<1.  相似文献

A steady magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow past a radially stretching or shrinking disk is investigated. The governing partial differential equations are transformed into a set of ordinary (similarity) differential equations by a similarity transformation. These equations along with the corresponding boundary conditions are solved numerically using the boundary value problem solver (bvp4c) in Matlab. The effects of magnetic field and suction on the shear stress and the heat transfer are analyzed and discussed. It is found that both parameters affect more in the shrinking region. The increase in the magnetic parameter results in the increase of the skin friction coefficient but decrease in the local Nusselt number. The skin friction coefficient and the local Nusselt number increase as suction increases.  相似文献

This paper presents a numerical solution for the steady mixed convection magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow of an electrically conducting micropolar fluid over a porous shrinking sheet. The velocity of shrinking sheet and magnetic field are assumed to vary as power functions of the distance from the origin. A convective boundary condition is used rather than the customary conditions for temperature, i.e., constant surface temperature or constant heat flux. With the aid of similarity transformations, the governing partial differential equations are transformed into a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations, which are solved numerically, using the variational finite element method (FEM). The influence of various emerging thermophysical parameters, namely suction parameter, convective heat transfer parameter, magnetic parameter and power index on velocity, microrotation and temperature functions is studied extensively and is shown graphically. Additionally the skin friction and rate of heat transfer, which provide an estimate of the surface shear stress and the rate of cooling of the surface, respectively, have also been computed for these parameters. Under the limiting case an analytical solution of the flow velocity is compared with the present numerical results. An excellent agreement between the two sets of solutions is observed. Also, in order to check the convergence of numerical solution, the calculations are carried out by reducing the mesh size. The present study finds applications in materials processing and demonstrates excellent stability and convergence characteristics for the variational FEM code.  相似文献
