This study is aimed to highlight the possibility of engineering the multifunctional textile nanocomposite material based on the polyester (PES) fabric modified with colloidal Ag and TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs). The effects of concentration of NPs as well as the order of Ag and TiO2 NPs loading on antimicrobial, UV protective, and photocatalytic properties of PES fabrics were examined. The antimicrobial activity of differently modified PES fabrics was tested against Gram‐negative bacterium Escherichia coli, Gram‐positive bacterium Staphylococcus aureus, and fungus Candida albicans. The concentration of Ag colloid and the order of Ag and TiO2 NPs loading considerably affected the antimicrobial efficiency of PES fabrics. The fabrics provided maximum UV protection upon surface modification with Ag and TiO2 NPs. Ag NPs enhanced Ag NPs enhanced the photodegradation activity of TiO2 NPs and total photodegradation of methylene blue was achieved after 24 hr of UV illumination. PLA nanocomposite films with multifunctional characteristics such as mechanical, anti-UV, antibacterial, electrical, gas barrier properties are potentially of high interest as packaging biomaterials. Occasionally, desired and beneficial effects obtained by addition nanofillers come along with some drawbacks, leading to the sharp drop in the molecular weights of the polyester chains, and consequently an important loss of mechanical and thermal properties. Novel PLA-ZnO nanocomposite films were produced by melt-compounding PLA with 0.5–3% ZnO rod-like nanoparticles. The surface treatment of nanofiller by silanization (with triethoxy caprylylsilane) was necessary to obtain a better dispersion and to limit the decrease of molecular mass of PLA. The morphology, molecular, thermo-mechanical and transport properties to water vapor of PLA-ZnO films were analyzed with respect to the neat PLA. According to DSC and to XRD, the produced films were essentially amorphous. The changes in PLA permeation properties were strongly dependent on temperature and nanofiller loading. The well dispersed ZnO nanoparticles within the polyester matrix were effective in increasing the tortuosity of the diffusive path of the penetrant molecules. The activation energy remained similar for PLA and PLA-1% ZnO, but was found greater at higher loading of ZnO (3%), confirming the increased difficulty of travelling molecules to diffuse through PLA. In comparison to the neat PLA (presenting no antimicrobial efficacy), the nanocomposites were active against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, stronger antibacterial activity being evidenced after 7 days elapsed time. By considering the multifunctional properties of PLA-ZnO nanocomposites, the films produced by extrusion can be considered a promising alternative as environmental-friendly packaging materials.  相似文献

Biodegradable PLA composites were prepared using microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) and silver (Ag) nanoparticles. The main objective of the present study is to develop new biopolymer composites with good mechanical properties, thermal stability, maintaining the optical transparency and also providing antimicrobial properties through silver nanoparticle introduction. Composites were prepared with 1%wt of Ag nanoparticles and 5%wt of MCC using a twin-screw microextruder; film parameters were optimized in order to obtain a thickness range between 20 and 60 μm.PLA composites maintained optical transparency properties of the matrix, while MCC was able to reduce polymer permeability. Thermal analysis revealed that MCC increased PLA crystallinity and the mechanical properties of the composites demonstrated that tensile modulus was improved by microcrystalline cellulose.  相似文献

Poly lactic acid (PLA) is a compostable, as well as recyclable, sustainable, versatile and environmentally friendly alternative, because the monomer of PLA-lactide (LA) is extracted from natural sources. PLA’s techno-functional properties are fairly similar to fossil-based polymers; however, in pristine state, its brittleness and delicacy during processing pose challenges to its potential exploitation in diverse food packaging applications. PLA is, therefore, re-engineered to improve its thermal, rheological, barrier and mechanical properties through nanoparticle (NP) reinforcement. This review summarises the studies on PLA-based nanocomposites (PLA NCs) developed by reinforcing inorganic metal/metallic oxide, graphite and silica-based nanoparticles (NPs) that exhibit remarkable improvement in terms of storage modulus, tensile strength, crystallinity, glass transition temperature (Tg) value, antimicrobial property and a decrease in water vapour and oxygen permeability when compared with the pristine PLA films. This review has also discussed the regulations around the use of metal oxide-based NPs in food packaging, PLA NC biodegradability and their applications in food systems. The industrial acceptance of NCs shows highly promising perspectives for the replacement of traditional petrochemical-based polymers currently being used for food packaging.  相似文献

Ag nanoparticles (NPs) modified ZnO microspheres (Ag/ZnO microspheres) were prepared by a facile one pot strategy in ethylene glycol (EG) medium. The EG played two important roles in the synthesis: it could act as a reaction media for the formation of ZnO and reduce Ag+ to Ag0. A series of the characterizations indicated the successful combination of Ag NPs with ZnO microspheres. It was shown that Ag modification could greatly enhance the photocatalytic efficiency of ZnO microspheres by taking the photodegradation of Rhodamine B as a model reaction. With appropriate ratio of Ag and ZnO, Ag/ZnO microspheres showed the better photocatalytic performance than commercial Degussa P-25 TiO2. Photoluminescence and surface photovoltage spectra demonstrated that Ag modification could effectively inhibit the recombination of the photoinduced electron and holes of ZnO. This is responsible for the higher photocatalytic activity of Ag/ZnO composites.  相似文献

Novel hybrid polyvinyl butyral nanofibers have been developed for antimicrobial applications. The nanofiber mats were obtained from a needleless rod electrospinning system. The novel inorganic antibacterial agents were incorporated into the nanofibers, and their antibacterial activity was compared. The obtained nanoparticle/nanofiber hybrid mats have a good surface morphology. The results indicated that the CuO, ZnO, ZnO/TiO2, and AgNO3 nanoparticle‐incorporated nanofiber layers have excellent antibacterial activity against to Escherichia coli compared with TiO2, SnO2, and ZrO2 ones. Poly(l-lactic acid)-TiO2 nanoparticle nanocomposite films were prepared by incorporating surface modified TiO2 nanoparticles into polymer matrices. In the process of preparing the nanocomposite films, severe aggregation of TiO2 nanoparticles could be reduced by surface modification by using carboxylic acid and long-chain alkyl amine. As a result, the nanocomposite films with high transparency, similar to pure PLA films, were obtained without depending on the amount of added TiO2 nanoparticles. A TEM micrograph of the nanocomposite films suggests that the TiO2 nanoparticles of 3-6 nm in diameter were uniformly dispersed in polymer matrices. Photodegradation of PLA-TiO2 nanoparticle nanocomposite films was also investigated. The results showed that nanocomposite films could be efficiently photodegraded by UV irradiation in comparison with pure PLA.  相似文献

We propose the benefits of preincubation during nanoparticle‐assisted bacterial analysis, where the bacteria are grown along with the nanoparticles. We were able to obtain a two to ten fold enhancement of bacterial signals in 3 h compared to the generally used methodology followed in previous literature. The previous literature method required a long time (18 h) to obtain such an enhancement. We probe the interactions of two bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, with Ag, NiO, Pt TiO2 and ZnO nanoparticles via transmission electron microscopy, ultraviolet spectroscopy and matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) mass spectrometry (MS). Based on these results, we propose a mechanism for interaction of these five nanoparticles with bacteria. Two mechanisms were observed for the interactions: (1) Mechanism A is proposed for the Pt and NiO NPs which functioned based on affinity for bacterial cells. (2) Mechanism B was proposed for the bactericidal NPs such as TiO2, ZnO and Ag NPs. The results indicate that the success of the unmodified NPs in MALDI‐MS bacterial studies lies in following the ideal protocol for incubation at the ideal concentrations. The application of nanomaterials has gained considerable momentum in various fields in recent years due to their high reactivity, excellent surface properties and quantum effects in the nanometer range. The properties of zinc oxide (ZnO) vary with its crystallite size or particle size and often nanocrystalline ZnO is seen to exhibit superior physical and chemical properties due to their higher surface area and modified electronic structure. ZnO nanoparticles are reported to exhibit strong bacterial inhibiting activity and silver (Ag) has been extensively used for its antimicrobial properties since ages. In this study, Ag doped ZnO nanoparticles were synthesized by mechanochemical processing in a high energy ball mill and investigated for antimicrobial activity. The nanocrystalline nature of zinc oxide was established by X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies. It is seen from the XRD data obtained from the samples, that crystallite size of the zinc oxide nanoparticles is seen to decrease with increasing Ag addition. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) data also supported the nanoparticle formation during the synthesis. The doped nanoparticles were subjected to antimicrobial investigation and found that both increase in Ag content and decrease in particle size contributed significantly towards antimicrobial efficiency. It was also observed that Ag doped ZnO nanoparticles possess enhanced antimicrobial potential than that of virgin ZnO against the studied microorganisms of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus.

The main purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles on the morphological, mechanical, thermal, and rheological properties of PLA/PP blend. In this regard, nanocomposites containing 1, 3, and 5 wt% of ZnO nanoparticles were prepared by melt mixing. In addition, three different mixing procedures were adopted to study their effects on the microstructure of nanocomposites. The rheological behaviors demonstrated a higher elasticity and less compatibility for two phases in the case of nanocomposites containing nanoparticles in harmony with the morphological observations. Accordingly, it was correlated to the elasticity originating from the interphase, anticipated coalescence of dispersed particles as a result of degradation of PLA chains triggered by ZnO nanoparticles (ZnO‐NPs) and also agglomeration of ZnO‐NPs depending on the content of nanoparticles and chosen mixing procedure. It was also found that mixing method puts a remarkable influence on the microstructure and rheological behavior of nanocomposites. Results of mechanical characterizations and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) also confirmed the degradation induced by ZnO nanoparticles.  相似文献

The functionalization of photocatalytic metal oxide nanoparticles of TiO2, ZnO, WO3 and CuO with amine-terminated (oleylamine) and thiol-terminated (dodecane-1-thiol) alkyl-chain ligands was studied under ambient conditions. A high selectivity was observed in the binding specificity of a ligand towards nanoparticles of these different oxides. It was observed that oleylamine binds stably to only TiO2 and WO3, whereas dodecane-1-thiol binds stably only to ZnO and CuO. Similarly, polar-to-nonpolar solvent phase transfer of TiO2 and WO3 nanoparticles could be achieved by using oleylamine, but not dodecane-1-thiol, whereas the opposite holds for ZnO and CuO. The surface chemistry of ligand-functionalized nanoparticles was probed by attenuated total reflectance (ATR)-FTIR spectroscopy, which enabled the occupation of the ligands at the active sites to be elucidated. The photostability of the ligands on the nanoparticle surface was determined by the photocatalytic self-cleaning properties of the material. Although TiO2 and WO3 degrade the ligands within 24 h under both UV and visible light, ligands on ZnO and CuO remain unaffected. The gathered insights are also highly relevant from an application point of view. As an example, because the ligand-functionalized nanoparticles are hydrophobic in nature, they can be self-assembled at the air-water interface to give nanoparticle films with demonstrated photocatalytic as well as anti-fogging properties.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to investigate the preparation and properties of hybrid materials composed of poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and poly(lactic acid)/poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLA/PLGA) blends employing cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) and/or organophilic silica (R972) as nanoparticles. The CNCs were obtained by acid hydrolysis of commercially available microcrystalline cellulose (MCC). The materials were produced in film form by solution casting. Organophilic silica was incorporated at a ratio of 3 wt.%, and CNCs were added at ratios of 3 wt.% and 5 wt.% in relation to the weight of the polymer matrix. Two series of films were obtained. The first was prepared using only PLA as the matrix, and the second was obtained using blends of PLA and PLGA. The properties of the films were evaluated by X-ray diffractometry, nuclear magnetic resonance, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and measurement of mechanical properties. The results revealed that each nanoparticle, whether added individually or combined with the other type of nanoparticle, induced different final material properties. Cellulose nanocrystals can act as nucleating agents for the crystallization of PLA. There was an improvement in the mechanical performance of films with the addition of CNCs. Further, the incorporation of silica combined with CNCs resulted in the generation of films with the strongest mechanical properties. The results of this study indicate that silica decreases the surface tension between PLA-cellulose and PLA/PLGA-cellulose.  相似文献

We demonstrate the multiple plasmonic effect on the photocurrent properties of photoanodes containing Ag or Au nanoparticles (NPs) loaded onto titanium dioxide film (Ag–TiO2 or Au–TiO2) on Au grating surfaces. Ag–TiO2 or Au–TiO2 nanocomposite particles are prepared by a flame spray pyrolysis route. The structures and morphologies of the prepared products are characterized by high‐resolution transmission electron microscopy. The Ag–TiO2 or Au–TiO2 composite NPs are deposited by spin coating onto the Au grating surfaces. The photoanode electrode is a layered structure of blu‐ray disc‐recordable grating substrate/Au/Ag (or Au)–TiO2/dye/electrolyte/indium‐tin oxide. The plasmonic effect is induced when Ag or Au NPs are located within the propagating surface plasmon (SP) field on the Au grating surface. The short‐circuit photocurrent is increased by exciting the grating‐coupled propagating SP on the Au gratings and is further enhanced by positioning the Ag or Au NPs within the grating‐coupled SP field. Composites of electrospun poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) fibers and silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) were used as a soft template for coating with TiO2 by atomic layer deposition (ALD). Whereas the as‐deposited TiO2 layers on PEO fibers and Ag NPs were completely amorphous, the TiO2 layers were transformed into polycrystalline TiO2 nanotubes (NTs) with embedded Ag NPs after calcination. Their plasmonic effect can be controlled by varying the thickness of the dielectric Al2O3 spacer between Ag NPs and dye molecules by means of the ALD process. Electronic and spectroscopic analyses demonstrated enhanced photocurrent generation and solar‐cell performance due to the intense electromagnetic field of the dye resulting from the surface plasmon effect of the Ag NPs.  相似文献

Different proportion of nano zinc oxide (nano ZnO) and chain extender (ADR) were combined with the intumescent flame retardant and then added into the PLA matrix. The thermal stability, flame retardant performance, and mechanical properties were studied. The gel content results showed that crosslinking structures were obtained after the addition of nano ZnO and ADR, which were generated by the catalytic chain scission effect of nano ZnO and chain extension effect of ADR. With addition of 1% nano ZnO and 1.6% ADR, the gel content of flame retardant PLA composite reached the highest value (14.2%). Meanwhile, the corresponding flame retardant PLA composite with 1% nano ZnO and 1.6% ADR, named FRPLA/ZnO/ADR-1, exhibited an overall improved properties including the flame retardant properties and mechanical performance, which passed the UL94 V-0 level with a limiting oxygen index value of 40.1%. Compared to FRPLA (flame retardant PLA without ZnO and ADR), the peak heat release rate and the total smoke production of FRPLA/ZnO/ADR-1were reduced by 60% and 67% respectively, and the final mass improved from 12% to 38%. In addition, the tensile strength and elongation at break of FRPLA/ZnO/ADR-1 increased by 25%, 14% compared with that of FRPLA. The impact strength was 15.1 kJ/m2, which is similar to the pure PLA (15.6 kJ/m2). It indicated that the addition of nano ZnO and ADR could balance the flame retardant performance and the mechanical properties of the flame retardant PLA.  相似文献

Among different metallic nanoparticles, sliver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) are one of the most essential and fascinating nanomaterials. Importantly, among the metal based nanoparticles, Ag NPs play a key role in various fields such as biomedicine, biosensors, catalysis, pharmaceuticals, nanoscience and nanotechnology, particularly in nanomedicine. A main concern about the chemical synthesis of Ag NPs is the production of hazardous chemicals and toxic wastes. To overcome this problem, many research studies have been carried out on the green synthesis of Ag NPs using green sources such as plant extracts, microorganisms and some biopolymers without formation of hazardous wastes. Among green sources, plants could be remarkably valuable to exploring the biosynthesis of Ag NPs. In this review, the green synthesis of Ag‐based nanocatalysts such as Ag NPs, AgPd NPs, Au?Ag NPs, Ag/AgPd NPs, Ag/Cu NPs, Ag@AgCl NPs, Au?Ag@AgCl nanocomposite, Ag?Cr‐AC nanocomposite and Ag NPs immobilized on various supports such as Natrolite zeolite, bone, ZnO, seashell, hazelnut shell, almond shell, SnO2, perlite, ZrO2, TiO2, α‐Al2O3, CeO2, reduced graphene oxide (rGO), h‐Fe2O3@SiO2, and Fe3O4 using numerous plant extracts as reducing and stabilizing agents in the absence of hazardous surfactant and capping agents has been focused. This work describes the state of the art and future challenges in the biosynthesis of Ag‐based nanocatalysts. The fact about the application of living plants in metal nanoparticle (MNPs) industry is that it is a more economical and efficient biosynthesis biosynthetic procedure. In addition, the catalytic activities of the synthesized, Ag‐based recyclable nanocatalysts using various plant extracts in several chemical reactions such as oxidation, reduction, coupling, cycloaddition, cyanation, epoxidation, hydration, degradation and hydrogenation reactions have bben extensively discussed.  相似文献

Porous TiO2 nanoparticles coated on ZnO nanowire arrays (TiO2 NP/ZnO NW) as photoanode for dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) has been fabricated and investigated to improve the power conversion efficiency. The TiO2 NP/ZnO NW photoanode consists of single crystalline ZnO NWs synthesized via hydrothermal method and porous TiO2 NP film covered on the surface of ZnO NW arrays by screen printing technique. The effect of TiO2 NPs thickness of the bi-filmed photoanode on the cell performance has been investigated, and TiO2 NP/ZnO NW DSSC with NP thickness of ~5 μm exhibits the best efficiency of 4.68%, higher than 1.16% of ZnO NW DSSC and 3.18% of TiO2 NPs DSSC, prepared and tested under identical conditions. The efficiency increase is attributed to the enlarged photocurrent, due to the greatly enhanced surface area for dye absorption and light harvesting efficiency resulted from TiO2 NPs, and improved open-circuit voltage, due to reduced electron recombination by providing direct conduction pathway along ZnO NWs.  相似文献

In this study, the galvanic displacement reaction between silver and AuCl4 was carried out to synthesize a series of silver nanowire (Ag NW) @ gold nanoparticle (Au NP) hybrid nanowires. The influence of Ag NW @ Au NP hybrid nanowires on the fluorescence properties of the poly (3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT) was investigated. The particle sizes of Au NPs on the hybrid nanowires could be adjusted by varying the reaction time and the concentration of the HAuCl4 solution. Furthermore, steady‐state fluorescence measurements showed that the fluorescence intensity of the P3HT films was higher on various Ag NW @ Au NP hybrid nanowires compared to that on a bare silicon substrate. This was due to the increase in the intensity of electromagnetic field by the localized surface plasmon resonances of Au NPs and surface plasmon polaritons of Ag NWs from the hybrid nanowires. The results were further confirmed by the Raman spectra of the P3HT films on different substrates.  相似文献

A novel TiO2 nanotube array/CdS nanoparticle/ZnO nanorod (TiO2 NT/CdS/ZnO NR) photocatalyst was constructed which exhibited a wide‐absorption (200–535 nm) response in the UV/Vis region and was applied for the photoelectrocatalytic (PEC) degradation of dye wastewater. This was achieved by chemically assembling CdS into the TiO2 NTs and then constructing a ZnO NR layer on the TiO2 NT/CdS surface. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results showed that a new structure had been obtained. The TiO2 NTs looked like many “empty bottles” and the ZnO NR layer served as a big lid. Meanwhile the CdS NPs were encapsulated between them with good protection. After being sensitized by the CdS NPs, the absorption‐band edge of the obtained photocatalyst was obviously red‐shifted to the visible region, and the band gap was reduced from its original 3.20 eV to 2.32 eV. Photoelectric‐property tests indicated that the TiO2 NT/CdS/ZnO NR material maintained a very high PEC activity in both the ultraviolet (UV) and the visible region. The maximum photoelectric conversion efficiencies of TiO2 NT/CdS/ZnO NR were 31.8 and 5.98 % under UV light (365 nm) and visible light (420–800 nm), respectively. In the PEC oxidation, TiO2 NT/CdS/ZnO NR exhibited a higher removal ability for methyl orange (MO) and a high stability. The kinetic constants were 1.77×10?4 s?1 under UV light, which was almost 5.9 and 2.6 times of those on pure TiO2 NTs and TiO2 NT/ZnO NR, and 2.5×10?4 s?1 under visible light, 2.4 times those on TiO2 NT/CdS.  相似文献
