For a finite group G, let n(G) denote the number of conjugacy classes of non-subnormal subgroups of G. In this paper, we show that a finite group G satisfying n(G)≤2|π(G)| is solvable, and for a finite non-solvable group G, n(G) = 2|π(G)|+1 if and only if G?A5.  相似文献

Abstract

Let ω(G) denote the number of orbits on the finite group G under the action of Aut(G). Using the classification of finite simple groups, we prove that for any positive integer n, there is only a finite number of (non-abelian) finite simple groups G satisfying ω(G) ≤ n. Then we classify all finite simple groups G such that ω(G) ≤ 17. The latter result was obtained by computational means, using the computer algebra system GAP.  相似文献

Let ϕ be an automorphism of prime order p of the group G with C G (ϕ) finite of order n. We prove the following. If G is soluble of finite rank, then G has a nilpotent characteristic subgroup of finite index and class bounded in terms of p only. If G is a group with finite Hirsch number h, then G has a soluble characteristic subgroup of finite index in G with derived length bounded in terms of p and n only and a soluble characteristic subgroup of finite index in G whose index and derived length are bounded in terms of p, n and h only. Here a group has finite Hirsch number if it is poly (cyclic or locally finite). This is a stronger notion than that used in [Wehrfritz B.A.F., Almost fixed-point-free automorphisms of order 2, Rend. Circ. Mat. Palermo (in press)], where the case p = 2 is discussed.  相似文献

Let G be a group and Aut(G) be the group of automorphisms of G. Then the Acentralizer of an automorphism α ∈Aut(G) in G is defined as C G (α) = {g ∈ G∣α(g) = g}. For a finite group G, let Acent(G) = {C G (α)∣α ∈Aut(G)}. Then for any natural number n, we say that G is n-Acentralizer group if |Acent(G)| =n. We show that for any natural number n, there exists a finite n-Acentralizer group and determine the structure of finite n-Acentralizer groups for n ≤ 5.  相似文献

All normal subloops of a loopG form a modular latticeL n (G). It is shown that a finite loopG has a complemented normal subloop lattice if and only ifG is a direct product of simple subloops. In particular,L n (G) is a Boolean algebra if and only if no two isomorphic factors occurring in a decomposition ofG are abelian groups. The normal subloop lattice of a finite loop is a projective geometry if and only ifG is an elementary abelianp-group for some primep.  相似文献

For any integer n ≠ 0,1, a group G is said to be “n-Bell” if it satisfies the identity [x n ,y] = [x,y n ]. It is known that if G is an n-Bell group, then the factor group G/Z 2(G) has finite exponent dividing 12n 5(n ? 1)5. In this article we show that this bound can be improved. Moreover, we prove that every n-Bell group is n-nilpotent; consequently, using results of Baer on finite n-nilpotent groups, we give the structure of locally finite n-Bell groups. Finally, we are concerned with locally graded n-Bell groups for special values of n.  相似文献

Let G be a finitely generated group, and A a ?[G]-module of flat dimension n such that the homological invariant Σ n (G, A) is not empty. We show that A has projective dimension n as a ?[G]-module. In particular, if G is a group of homological dimension hd(G) = n such that the homological invariant Σ n (G, ?) is not empty, then G has cohomological dimension cd(G) = n. We show that if G is a finitely generated soluble group, the converse is true subject to taking a subgroup of finite index, i.e., the equality cd (G) = hd(G) implies that there is a subgroup H of finite index in G such that Σ(H, ?) ≠ ?.  相似文献

An orthogonal latin square graph (OLSG) is one in which the vertices are latin squares of the same order and on the same symbols, and two vertices are adjacent if and only if the latin squares are orthogonal. If G is an arbitrary finite graph, we say that G is realizable as an OLSG if there is an OLSG isomorphic to G. The spectrum of G [Spec(G)] is defined as the set of all integers n that there is a realization of G by latin squares of order n. The two basic theorems proved here are (1) every graph is realizable and (2) for any graph G, Spec G contains all but a finite set of integers. A number of examples are given that point to a number of wide open questions. An example of such a question is how to classify the graphs for which a given n lies in the spectrum.  相似文献

The following result is proved. Let w be a multilinear commutator and n a positive integer. Suppose that G is a residually finite group in which every product of at most 896 w-values has order dividing n. Then the verbal subgroup w(G) is locally finite.  相似文献

Let G be a finite group and n be a positive integer. An n-minimal subgroup H of G is called to be exactly n-minimal if no proper subgroup of H is n-minimal. In this paper, we study the solvability of G under the assumption that all exactly n-minimal subgroups of G are S-permutable.  相似文献

Let (G n , X n ) be a sequence of finite transitive permutation groups with uniformly bounded number of generators. We prove that the infinitely iterated permutational wreath product ${\ldots\wr G_2\wr G_1}Let (G n , X n ) be a sequence of finite transitive permutation groups with uniformly bounded number of generators. We prove that the infinitely iterated permutational wreath product ?\wr G2\wr G1{\ldots\wr G_2\wr G_1} is topologically finitely generated if and only if the profinite abelian group ?n 3 1 Gn/Gn{\prod_{n\geq 1} G_n/G'_n} is topologically finitely generated. As a corollary, for a finite transitive group G the minimal number of generators of the wreath power G\wr ?\wr G\wr G{G\wr \ldots\wr G\wr G} (n times) is bounded if G is perfect, and grows linearly if G is non-perfect. As a by-product we construct a finitely generated branch group, which has maximal subgroups of infinite index.  相似文献

Let F n be the free group of rank n, and let Aut+(F n ) be its special automorphism group. For an epimorphism π : F n G of the free group F n onto a finite group G we call the standard congruence subgroup of Aut+(F n ) associated to G and π. In the case n = 2 we fully describe the abelianization of Γ+(G, π) for finite abelian groups G. Moreover, we show that if G is a finite non-perfect group, then Γ+(G, π) ≤ Aut+(F 2) has infinite abelianization.  相似文献

Given a pseudovariety 𝒞, it is proved that a residually-𝒞 superstable group G has a finite series G 0G 1 ⊴ · · · ⊴ G n = G such that G 0 is solvable and each factor G i +1/G i is in 𝒞 (0 ≤ in – 1). In particular, a residually finite superstable group is solvable-by-finite, and if it is ω -stable, then it is nilpotent-by-finite. Given a finitely generated group G, we show that if G is ω -stable and satisfies some residual properties (residual solvability, residual finiteness, …), then G is finite. For a finite group G, let Cent(G) denote the set of centralizers of single elements of G and #Cent(G) = |Cent(G)|. G is called an n-centralizer group if #Cent(G) = n, and a primitive n-centralizer group if #Cent(G) = #Cent(G/Z(G)) = n. In this paper, we compute #Cent(G) for some finite groups G and prove that, for any positive integer n 2, 3, there exists a finite group G with #Cent(G) = n, which is a question raised by Belcastro and Sherman [2]. We investigate the structure of finite groups G with #Cent(G) = 6 and prove that, if G is a primitive 6-centralizer group, then G/Z(G) A4, the alternating group on four letters. Also, we prove that, if G/Z(G) A4, then #Cent(G) = 6 or 8, and construct a group G with G/Z(G) A4 and #Cent(G) = 8.This research was in part supported by a grant from IPM.2000 Mathematics Subject Classification: 20D99, 20E07  相似文献

We show that if G is a group of finite Morley rank, then the verbal subgroup <w(G)> is of finite width, where w is a concise word. As a byproduct, we show that if G is any abelian-by-finite group, then G n =<x n (G)> is definable. Received: 15 March 1996 / Published online: 18 July 2001  相似文献

A subgroup MG is almost malnormal provided that for each gGM, the intersection M g M is finite. It is proven that the free product of two virtually free groups amalgamating a finitely generated almost malnormal subgroup, is residually finite. A consequence of a generalization of this result is that an acute-angled n-gon of finite groups is residually finite if n≥4. Another consequence is that if G acts properly discontinuously and cocompactly on a 2-dimensional hyperbolic building whose chambers have acute angles and at least 4 sides, then G is residually finite.
