Let X1, X2,..., Xm, Y1, Y2,..., Yn be a simple random sample without replacement from a finite population and let X(1) X(2) ... X(m) and Y(1) Y(2) ... Y(n) be the order statistics of X1, X2,..., Xm and Y1, Y2,..., Yn, respectively. It is shown that the joint distribution of X(i) and X(j) is positively likelihood ratio dependent and Y(j) is negatively regression dependent on X(i). Using these results, it is shown that when samples are drawn without replacement from a finite population, the relative precision of the ranked set sampling estimator of the population mean, relative to the simple random sample estimator with the same number of units quantified, is bounded below by 1.  相似文献

Then for a k with 0 k d, dim ker S k if and only if every f (d, k) boundary points of S are clearly visible from a common k-dimensional subset of S. It is shown that if the order of non-uniformity of a quasilinear elliptic equation is h, 1<h2, then the critical norm separating existence and non-existence of a solution to the Dirichlet problem with small boundary data is the norm. For 0h1, existence of a solution is guaranteed without any smallness assumption on the given boundary data, provided that the usual a priori interior gradient bound for solution is available.  相似文献

A family of subtrees of a graphG whose edge sets form a partition of the edge set ofG is called atree decomposition ofG. The minimum number of trees in a tree decomposition ofG is called thetree number ofG and is denoted by(G). It is known that ifG is connected then(G) |G|/2. In this paper we show that ifG is connected and has girthg 5 then(G) |G|/g + 1. Surprisingly, the case wheng = 4 seems to be more difficult. We conjecture that in this case(G) |G|/4 + 1 and show a wide class of graphs that satisfy it. Also, some special graphs like complete bipartite graphs andn-dimensional cubes, for which we determine their tree numbers, satisfy it. In the general case we prove the weaker inequality(G) (|G| – 1)/3 + 1.  相似文献

Using finite elements and a discretized Green's function, we show that the El-Mistikawy and Werle difference scheme on an equidistant mesh of widthh is uniformly second order accurate for this problem (i.e., the nodal errors are bounded byCh 2, whereC is independent ofh and ). With a natural choice of trial functions, uniform first order accuracy is obtained in theL (0, 1) norm. We consider systems of partial differential equations, which contain only second derivatives in the x variables and which are uniformly parabolic in the sense of Petrovskii. For such systems we obtain necessary and, separately, sufficient conditions for the maximum norm principle to hold in the layer Rn × ( 0,T ] and in the cylinder × ( 0,T], where is a bounded subdomain of Rn. In this paper the norm is understood in a generalized sense, i.e. as the Minkowski functional of a compact convex body in Rm containing the origin. The necessary and sufficient conditions coincide if the coefficients of the system do not depend on t. The criteria for validity of the maximum norm principle are formulated as a number of equivalent algebraic conditions describing the relation between the geometry of the unit sphere of the given norm and coefficients of the system under consideration. Simpler formulated criteria are given for certain classes of norms: for differentiable norms, p-norms ( 1 p ) in Rm, as well as for norms whose unit balls are m-pyramids, m-bipyramids, cylindrical bodies, m-parallelepipeds. A minimization problem with convex and separable objective function subject to a separable convex inequality constraint and bounded variables is considered. A necessary and sufficient condition is proved for a feasible solution to be an optimal solution to this problem. Convex minimization problems subject to linear equality/linear inequality constraint, and bounds on the variables are also considered. A necessary and sufficient condition and a sufficient condition, respectively, are proved for a feasible solution to be an optimal solution to these two problems. Algorithms of polynomial complexity for solving the three problems are suggested and their convergence is proved. We provide examples of time and norm optimal controls that satisfy Pontryagins maximum principle in an interval 0 t T but with a costate that vanishes in 0 t T - with < T. A refinement of this construction produces time optimal controls which do not satisfy the maximum principle, even in weak form. For a linear fourth order ordinary differential operator M we study Range Domain Implications (RDI). Let Co [O,1] be positive; we show under what conditions there exists a CO[O,1] such that the following RDI holds: Mu(x) (x) (0x1) u(x) (0x1). In particular we provide a numerical procedure to calculate .RDI are used to obtain error estimations and to solve related nonlinear problems.The basic idea to prove RDI is to split M into a product of second order differential operators which are easier to handle. For the general case that there exists no global splitting the concept of a local splitting is introduced.

A study is made of the norm wp (1 p ) on the tensor product of two Banach spaces E and F. It is shown that wp is a tensor norm, and a representation is deduced for the elements in the completion of E F equipped with wp. Finally it is shown that the wp-nuclear operators in the sense of Grothendieck [3] coincide with those operators factoring compactly throughp (if 1 p ) or Co (if p=), with related equalities concerning the idea1 norms.  相似文献
