The soluble poly(methyl methacrylate‐co‐octavinyl‐polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane) (PMMA–POSS) hybrid nanocomposites with improved Tg and high thermal stability were synthesized by common free radical polymerization and characterized using FTIR, high‐resolution 1H NMR, 29Si NMR, GPC, DSC, and TGA. The POSS contents in the nanocomposites were determined based on FTIR spectrum, revealing that it can be effectively adjusted by varying the feed ratio of POSS in the hybrid composites. On the basis of the 1H NMR analysis, the number of the reacted vinyl groups on each POSS molecules was determined to be about 6–8. The DSC and TGA measurements indicated that the hybrid nanocomposites had higher Tg and better thermal properties than the pure PMMA homopolymer. The Tg increase mechanism was investigated using FTIR, displaying that the dipole–dipole interaction between PMMA and POSS also plays very important role to the Tg improvement besides the molecular motion hindrance from the hybrid structure. The thermal stability enhances with increase of POSS content, which is mainly attributed to the incorporation of nanoscale inorganic POSS uniformly dispersed at molecular level. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) nanocomposites containing (methacryloxy)propyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (methacryl‐POSS) were prepared by bulk‐polymerization process. The structures of the products were characterized by FTIR, solid‐state NMR, TEM, XRD, DSC, TGA, XPS and UV‐Vis spectra. The hybrid materials were found to be largely homogeneous. DSC and TGA results indicate that the thermal properties of PMMA nanocomposites are significantly improved. The glass transition temperature (Tg) and thermal decomposition temperature (Tdec) of the nanocomposites increased by 58 and 110°C, respectively. The bulk hybrid material maintains excellent optical transparency in visible region.  相似文献

The influences of nanosized CaCO3 on the thermal and optical properties embedded in poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and polystyrene (PS) were investigated. Calcium carbonate nanoparticles were synthesized by in situ deposition technique, and its nano size (32–35 nm) was confirmed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray studies. Nanocomposites samples of PMMA/CaCO3 and PS/CaCO3 were prepared with different filler loading (0–4 wt%) of CaCO3 nanoparticles by solution mixing technique. The Fourier transform infrared analysis confirmed that CaCO3 nanoparticles were present in the polymers matrices. The morphology and elemental composition of nanocomposites were evaluated by SEM and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The thermal properties of nanocomposites were characterized by differential scanning calorimetric, thermogravimetric, and differential thermogravimetry analysis, and the results indicate that the incorporation of CaCO3 nanoparticles could significantly improve the thermal properties of PMMA/CaCO3 and PS/CaCO3 nanocomposites. The glass transition temperature (T g ) and decomposition temperature (T d ) of nanocomposites with 4 wt% of CaCO3 nanoparticles were increased by 30 and 24 K in case of PMMA/CaCO3 and 32  and 15 K in the case of PS/CaCO3 nanocomposites, respectively. The obtained transparent nanocomposites films were characterized using UV–Vis spectrophotometer which shows the transparencies of nanocomposites are almost maintained in visible region while the intensity of absorption band in ultraviolet (UV) region is increased with CaCO3 nanoparticles contents and these composites particles could enhance the UV-shielding properties of polymers.  相似文献

The morphology and thermal properties of Allylisobutyl Polyhedral Oligomeric Silsesquioxane (POSS)/Polybutadiene (PB) nanocomposites prepared through anionic polymerization technique were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The results of XRD, SEM and TEM showed that the aggregation of POSS in PB matrix occurred obviously, forming crystalline domains and the size of POSS particles increased with increasing POSS content. The DSC and TGA results indicated that the glass transition temperature (T g) of the nanocomposites was significantly increased and the maximum degradation temperature (T dmax) of nanocomposites was slightly increased compared with pure PB, implying an increase in thermal stability.  相似文献

In this work, poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) was grafted onto amine treated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (NH-MWNTs) and the physical and rheological properties of the NH-MWNTs–g-PMMA nanocomposites were investigated. The graft reaction of NH-MWNTs and the PMMA matrix was confirmed from the change of the N1S peaks, including those of amine oxygen and amide oxygen, by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The thermal and mechanical properties of the NH-MWNT–g-PMMA nanocomposites were enhanced by the graft reaction between NH-MWNTs and PMMA matrix. In addition, the viscosity of the nanocomposites was increased with the addition of NH-MWNTs. Storage (G′) and loss modulus (G″) were significantly increased by increase in the NH-MWNT content compared to acid-treated MWNTs/PMMA nanocomposites. This increase was attributed to the strong interaction by the grafting reaction between NH-MWNTs and the PMMA matrix.  相似文献

This article addresses the synthesis of organically tailored Ni-Al layered double hydroxide (ONi-Al LDH) and its use in the fabrication of exfoliated poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) nanocomposites. The pristine Ni-Al LDH was initially synthesized by co-precipitation method and subsequently modified using sodium dodecyl sulfate to obtain ONi-Al LDH. Nanocomposites of PMMA containing various amounts of modified Ni-Al LDH (3 wt%-7 wt%) were synthesized via solvent blending method to investigate the influence of LDH content on the properties of PMMA matrix. Several characterization methods such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), rheological analysis, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA), were employed to examine the structural, viscoelastic and thermal properties of PMMA/OLDH nanocomposites. The results of XRD and TEM examination confirm the formation of partially exfoliated PMMA/OLDH nanocomposites. The FTIR results elucidate that the characteristic bands for both pure PMMA and modified LDH are present in the spectra of PMMA/OLDH nanocomposites. Rheological analyses were carried out to examine the adhesion between polymer matrix and fillers present in the nanocomposite sample. The TGA data indicate that the PMMA nanocomposites exhibit higher thermal stability when compared to pure PMMA. The thermal decomposition temperature of PMMA/OLDH nanocomposites increases by 28 K compared to that of pure PMMA at 15% weight loss as a point of reference. In comparison with pure PMMA, the PMMA nanocomposite containing 7 wt% LDH demonstrates improved glass transition temperature (T g) of around 3 K. The activation energy (E a), reaction orders (n) and reaction mechanism of thermal degradation of PMMA/OLDH nanocomposites were evaluated using different kinetic models. Water uptake capacity of the PMMA/OLDH nanocomposites is less than that of the pure PMMA.  相似文献

Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/montmorillonite (MMT) nanocomposites were prepared by in situ suspension polymerization. MMT was previously organically modified by three different intercalating agents: methacrylatoethyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (DMC), dodecylamine (12CNH), and hexadecyl allyl ammonium chloride (HADC). The structures of the nanocomposites were investigated by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy, while the interaction between PMMA and MMT was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The molecular mass of the extracted PMMA was measured by gel permeation chromatography. The thermal stability of PMMA/MMT nanocomposites was evaluated by thermogravimetric and differential scanning calorimetry. The results indicated that PMMA/MMT nanocomposites were successfully prepared and the interaction between PMMA and MMT of PMMA/MMT–HADC nanocomposites was the strongest. The thermal stability of the nanocomposites was improved and found to be optimal for PMMA/MMT–HADC with T 10 increasing to 304 °C, 52 °C higher than that of neat PMMA.  相似文献

Abstract

Polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS), a hybrid nanostructured macromer has been used in the last decade for preparation of polymeric nanocomposites. Its versatile chemistry, which lends it for almost infinite chemical modification, sets it apart from other nanostructured fillers like nanoclays, carbon nanotubes, and carbon nanofibers. Depending on its functionality, 3‐D network, bead or pendant type‐POSS based polymeric nanocomposites can be synthesized. These have the potential to be designed for products with specific nanostructures for specific end‐use applications. This article discusses the trends in current research involving use of POSS macromers for modification of mainly thermal and viscoelastic properties of various polymers.  相似文献

The novel poly-benzoxazinyl functionalized polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane macromonomer (BZ-POSS), containing 7.6 benzoxazine groups per molecule on average was synthesized from octaaminophenylsilsesquioxane, p-cresol and paraformaldehyde. BZ-POSS was well miscible with bisphenol A-based benzoxazine (BBZ) melt. By ring-opening copolymerization of BBZ and BZ-POSS under condition similar to that used for polymerizing neat BBZ, the transparent and uniform BBZ/BZ-POSS organic-inorganic hybrid nanocomposites were prepared. The nano-scale dispersion of POSS cores in the nanocomposite was verified by powder X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy studies. Dynamic mechanical analyses and thermal gravimetric analysis indicated that thermal stabilities, cross-link densities and the flame retardance of the nanocomposites were increased in comparison with neat PBBZ resin, although only small amounts of inorganic POSS cores were incorporated into the systems. Structural analyses of BZ-POSS and BBZ/BZ-POSS nanocomposites are discussed herein.  相似文献

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to study the effect of methacrylated polyhedralsilsesquioxanes (POSS) on the fracture toughness of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) based denture‐based resins. POSS is a nanostructured material, that is, known to reinforce polymeric systems. Previous work has shown that POSS can improve the mechanical properties of dimethacrylate dental resin systems. Our work shows that there is no significant improvement and a significant drop in mechanical properties is accompanied by evidence of crystallization in the PMMA.  相似文献

Poly[isobutyl methacrylate‐co‐butanediol dimethacrylate‐co‐3‐methacrylylpropylheptaisobutyl‐T8‐polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane] [P(iBMA‐co‐BDMA‐co‐MA‐POSS)] nanocomposites with different crosslink densities and different polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (MA‐POSS) percentages (5, 10, 15, 20, and 30 wt %) were synthesized by radical‐initiated terpolymerization. Linear [P(iBMA‐co‐MA‐POSS)] copolymers were also prepared. The viscoelastic properties and morphologies were studied by dynamic mechanical thermal analysis, confocal microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The viscoelastic properties depended on the crosslink density. The dependence of viscoelastic properties on MA‐POSS content at a low BDMA loading (1 wt %) was similar to that of linear P(iBMA‐co‐MA‐POSS) copolymers. P(iBMA‐co‐1 wt % BDMA‐co‐10 wt % MA‐POSS) exhibited the highest dynamic storage modulus (E′) values in the rubbery region of this series. The 30 wt % MA‐POSS nanocomposites with 1 wt % BDMA exhibited the lowest E′. However, the E′ values in the rubbery region for P(iBMA‐co‐3 wt % BDMA‐co‐MA‐POSS) nanocomposites with 15 and 30 wt % MA‐POSS were higher than those of the parent P(iBMA‐co‐3 wt % BDMA) resin. MA‐POSS raised the E′ values of all P(iBMA‐co‐ 5 wt % BDMA‐co‐MA‐POSS) nanocomposites in the rubbery region above those of P(iBMA‐co‐5 wt % BDMA), but MA‐POSS loadings < 15 wt % had little influence on glass‐transition temperatures (Tg's) and slightly reduced Tg values with 20 or 30 wt % POSS. Heating history had little influence on viscoelastic properties. No POSS aggregates were observed for the P(iBMA‐co‐1 wt % BDMA‐co‐MA‐POSS) nanocomposites by TEM. POSS‐rich particles with diameters of several micrometers were present in the nanocomposites with 3 or 5 wt % BDMA. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Here we investigate a new type of highly flame retardant poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) nanocomposite by bulk polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) in the presence of organic nano carboncapsule (OCNC/NCNC)‐incorporated modified montmorillonites (CL120, CL42). The morphology of the modified clay was confirmed by X‐ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier transform infrared (FT‐IR) spectroscopy was used to identify the functional groups in the clay. The nano morphological characterization of the clay in the PMMA matrix was confirmed by XRD and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The thermal and mechanical properties of the PMMA nanocomposites were investigated by thermogravimetry and dynamic mechanical analysis, respectively. PMMA containing organo nano carboncapsule‐doped CL42 modified cocoamphodipropionate (K2) (P‐O‐CL42) could achieve very high thermal stability compared to pristine PMMA. The 5% thermal decomposition temperature (T 5d) increased by 63.2°C. Storage modulus of PMMA nanocomposites measured by DMA analysis. An enhancement of storage modulus and significant reduction in the peak heat release (PHR) rate were observed in the almost all PMMA nanocomposites as compared to pristine PMMA. Moreover, these results suggest that PMMA nanocomposites can have potential applications in the building industry and the medical field.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Polymer nanocomposites are already a part of many important worldwide businesses. Among many nanocomposite precursors, titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanopowder is increasingly being investigated due to its special properties. In this work, the feasibility of synthesising a new series of materials, copoly(arylidene-ether)/titanium dioxide nanocomposites, using in-situ copolymerisation technique has been investigated. This can be performed by the interaction of both cyclohexanone and 4-tert-butylcyclohexanone monomers with 4,4′-diformyl-2,2′-dimethoxy-α,ω-diphenoxyalkanes Ia–e, respectively, using different additions of titanium dioxide-P25. The structure of the prepared nanocomposites IIa–e/TiO2 (0.2–3.0%) was confirmed by elemental analysis (energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy) and spectral data (Fourier transform-infrared [FT-IR]). FT-IR verified the dispersion of nanofillers in the copolymer. Then, the characterisation and applications of these nanocomposites are extensively discussed depending on the investigation of how the addition of titanium dioxide nanoparticles affected on their properties using various techniques, such as X-ray diffraction, SEM, transmission electron microscopy, Water Contact Angle (WCA), thermogravimetric analysis, differential thermogravimetric, differential thermal analysis (DTA), polarising optical microscope and UV–vis absorption spectroscopy. The nanoparticles affected on the copolymer thermal behaviour in different ways (discrepancy results) depending on how these nanoparticles are dispersed in the copolymer matrix. UV–vis absorption spectra displayed a decrease in the optical band gap of some nanocomposites, which resulted from the addition of titanium dioxide to these copolymers, and this can improve the efficiency of them as organic emitting materials.  相似文献

A facile and cost-effective method to prepare poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/graphene oxide (GO) nanocomposites was developed by in situ polymerization. By using thermal-initiated and GO-initiated polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA), no extra radical initiator was added during the reaction. Without any pre-functionalization of GO, PMMA chains were covalently bonded to its surface, which was confirmed by Fourier-transform infrared, atomic force microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy investigations. TGA analysis showed that the mass ratio of grafted PMMA and GO was as high as 1.7. Transmission electron microscopy and X-ray powder diffraction investigations demonstrated that the grafting of PMMA chains to GO surfaces resulted in homogeneous dispersion of GO sheets in PMMA matrix, which led to a commendable performance on its mechanical and thermal properties. Dynamic mechanical analysis showed that, at a loading level of just 0.5 wt% for the nanocomposites, the storage modulus of the nanocomposites was improved 14%, and the glass transition temperature was increased 12°C in comparison with that of neat PMMA. Thermogravimetric analysis showed that the onset degradation temperature of the nanocomposites was increased 13°C with a GO content of 0.25 wt%.  相似文献

Two types of the epoxy-POSS nanocomposites were prepared and their electrical/dielectric and thermomechanical properties were determined. The mono- and octa-epoxyfunctionalized POSS (POSS,E1 and POSS,E8) were covalently incorporated in the epoxy network matrix DGEBA-3,3′-dimethyl-4,4′-diaminocyclohexylmethane (Laromin C260) as pendant units or as polyhedral junctions, respectively. While the POSS junctions are well dispersed in the hybrid network DGEBA-Laromin-POSS,E8, the pendant POSS aggregate to form large crystalline POSS domains. The properties of the nanocomposites correlate with the morphology. The nanocomposites with inhomogeneously dispersed large aggregates of pendant POSS,E1 show poor properties, including low Tg and thermal stability, and the high dielectric loss factor at higher temperatures. On the contrary, the well homogeneous nanocomposites containing POSS,E8 dispersed units display improved electrical properties in the range of 1–10 wt.% POSS. The hybrid exhibits the high resistivity (1 × 1015 Ω m) and polarization index pi1 characterizing electrical relaxation, as well as the low dielectric loss factor tan δ, mainly at temperatures above 50 °C. Moreover, the material shows improved thermo oxidative stability and enhanced thermomechanical behavior. Consequently, this nanocomposite was proved to be a prospective insulation material particularly for a high temperature electrotechnical application. In contrast to electrical properties being the best at a low POSS content, the thermomechanical properties, such as rubbery modulus and Tg, are gradually improving with increasing POSS content due to growing crosslinking density.  相似文献

Organic–inorganic hybrid diblock copolymers composed of poly(ε‐caprolactone) and poly(MA POSS) [PCL‐b‐P(MA POSS)] were synthesized via reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer polymerization of 3‐methacryloxypropylheptaphenyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (MA POSS) with dithiobenzoate‐terminated poly(ε‐caprolactone) as the macromolecular chain transfer agent. The dithiobenzoate‐terminated poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL‐CTA) was synthesized via the atom transfer radical reaction of 2‐bromopropionyl‐terminated PCL with bis(thiobenzoyl)disulfide in the presence of the complex of copper (I) bromide with N,N,N′,N″,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine. The results of molecular weights and polydispersity indicate that the polymerizations were in a controlled fashion. The organic–inorganic diblock copolymer was incorporated into epoxy to afford the organic–inorganic nanocomposites. The nanostructures of the organic–inorganic composites were investigated by means of transmission electron microscopy and dynamic mechanical thermal analysis. Thermogravimetric analysis shows that the organic–inorganic nanocomposites displayed the increased yields of degradation residues compared to the control epoxy. In the organic–inorganic nanocomposites, the inorganic block [viz., P(MA POSS)] had a tendency to enrich at the surface of the materials and the dewettability of surface for the organic–inorganic nanocomposites were improved in terms of the measurement of surface contact angles. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Thermotropic POSS‐containing poly(methacrylate) with long alkyl chain tethered polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) in the side chain and the block copolymers (PMMA‐b‐PMAC11POSS) were developed by through living anionic polymerization. The resulting polymers indicated a phase transition temperature at 112 °C from spherocrystal to isotropic phase. The POSS‐containing polymer segments tended to form matrix of microphase‐separated nanostructures in the bulk even in the very low volume fraction, for instance, PMMA cylindrical nanostructure was obtained by PMMA175b‐PMAC11POSS11 (?PMAC11POSS = 0.44). The control of thin film morphology was carried out by not only solvent annealing, but also thermal annealing, resulting in the formation of well‐ordered dot‐ and fingerprint‐type nanostructures. This is the first report in a series of POSS‐containing block polymers that are capable for thermal annealing to generate well‐ordered microphase‐separated nanostructures in thin films. The novel thermotropic POSS‐containing block copolymer offers a promising material for block copolymer lithography. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2011  相似文献

Summary: Octaaminophenyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (OapPOSS) was used as a crosslinking agent together with 4,4‐methylenebis‐(2‐chloroaniline) to prepare polyurethane networks containing POSS. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT‐IR), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) were employed to characterize the POSS‐reinforced polyurethane. The POSS‐containing PU networks displayed enhanced glass transition temperatures (Tgs) and the storage moduli of the networks of the glassy state and rubber plateaus were also observed to be significantly higher than that of the control polyurethane although only a small amount of POSS was incorporated into the systems. The results can be ascribed to the significant nanoscale reinforcement effect of POSS cages on the polyurethane matrix. TGA results showed the thermal stability was also improved with incorporation of POSS into the system.

The mechanical properties and thermal stability of polymers can be enhanced through the formation of nanocomposites. Nanocomposites consisting of hybrid copolymers of methacrylcyclohexyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS‐1) and methyl methacrylate (MMA) with up to 92 wt % (51 mol %) POSS‐1 and with superior thermal properties were synthesized using solution polymerization. The POSS‐1 contents of the copolymers were similar to or slightly higher than those in the feeds, the polydispersity indices were relatively low, and the degree of polymerization decreased with increasing POSS‐1 content. POSS‐1 enhanced the thermal stability, increasing the degradation temperature, reducing the mass loss, and preventing PMMA‐like degradation from propagating along the chain. The mass loss was reduced in a high POSS‐1 content copolymer since the polymerization of POSS‐1 with itself reduced sublimation. Exposure to 450 °C produced cyclohexyl‐POSS‐like remnants in the POSS‐1 monomer and in all the copolymers. The degradation of these remnants, for the copolymers and for the POSS‐1 monomer, yielded 75% SiO2 and an oxidized carbonaceous residue. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
