An edge cut W of a connected graph G is a k-restricted edge cut if GW is disconnected, and every component of GW has at least k vertices. The k-restricted edge connectivity is defined as the minimum cardinality over all k-restricted edge cuts. A permutation graph is obtained by taking two disjoint copies of a graph and adding a perfect matching between the two copies. The k-restricted edge connectivity of a permutation graph is upper bounded by the so-called minimum k-edge degree. In this paper some sufficient conditions guaranteeing optimal k-restricted edge connectivity and super k-restricted edge connectivity for permutation graphs are presented for k=2,3.

Bound on <Emphasis Type="Italic">m</Emphasis>-restricted Edge Connectivity
An m-restricted edge cut is an edge cut that separates a connected graph into a disconnected one with no components having order less than m. m-restrict edge connectivity λm is the cardinality of a minimum m-restricted edge cut. Let G be a connected k-regular graph of order at least 2m that contains m-restricted edge cuts and X be a subgraph of G. Let θ(X) denote the number of edges with one end in X and the other not in X and ξm=min{θ(X) ;X is a connected vertex-induced subgraph of order m}.It is proved in this paper that if G has girth at least m/2 2,then λm≤ξm.The upper bound of λm is sharp.

An edge cut of a connected graph is 5-restricted if its removal leaves every component having order at least five. Graphs that contain 5-restricted edge cuts are characterized in this paper. As a result, it is shown that a connected graph G of order at least 13 contains 5-restricted edge cuts if and only if ${G \setminus v}$ contains a component of order at least five for every vertex v of graph G.

For a connected graph G=(V,E), an edge set SE is a 3-restricted edge cut if GS is disconnected and every component of GS has order at least three. The cardinality of a minimum 3-restricted edge cut of G is the 3-restricted edge connectivity of G, denoted by λ3(G). A graph G is called minimally 3-restricted edge connected if λ3(Ge)<λ3(G) for each edge eE. A graph G is λ3-optimal if λ3(G)=ξ3(G), where , ω(U) is the number of edges between U and V?U, and G[U] is the subgraph of G induced by vertex set U. We show in this paper that a minimally 3-restricted edge connected graph is always λ3-optimal except the 3-cube.

An edge cut X of a connected graph G is a k-restricted edge cut if G-X is disconnected and every component of G-X has at least k vertices. Additionally, if the deletion of a minimum k-restricted edge cut isolates a connected component of k vertices, then the graph is said to be super-λk. In this paper, several sufficient conditions yielding super-λk graphs are given in terms of the girth and the diameter.

In this article, we study the existence of a 2‐factor in a K1, n‐free graph. Sumner [J London Math Soc 13 (1976), 351–359] proved that for n?4, an (n?1)‐connected K1, n‐free graph of even order has a 1‐factor. On the other hand, for every pair of integers m and n with m?n?4, there exist infinitely many (n?2)‐connected K1, n‐free graphs of even order and minimum degree at least m which have no 1‐factor. This implies that the connectivity condition of Sumner's result is sharp, and we cannot guarantee the existence of a 1‐factor by imposing a large minimum degree. On the other hand, Ota and Tokuda [J Graph Theory 22 (1996), 59–64] proved that for n?3, every K1, n‐free graph of minimum degree at least 2n?2 has a 2‐factor, regardless of its connectivity. They also gave examples showing that their minimum degree condition is sharp. But all of them have bridges. These suggest that the effects of connectivity, edge‐connectivity and minimum degree to the existence of a 2‐factor in a K1, n‐free graph are more complicated than those to the existence of a 1‐factor. In this article, we clarify these effects by giving sharp minimum degree conditions for a K1, n‐free graph with a given connectivity or edge‐connectivity to have a 2‐factor.

A vertex-cut X is said to be a restricted cut of a graph G if it is a vertex-cut such that no vertex u in G has all its neighbors in X. Clearly, each connected component of GX must have at least two vertices. The restricted connectivity κ(G) of a connected graph G is defined as the minimum cardinality of a restricted cut. Additionally, if the deletion of a minimum restricted cut isolates one edge, then the graph is said to be super-restricted connected. In this paper, several sufficient conditions yielding super-restricted-connected graphs are given in terms of the girth and the diameter. The corresponding problem for super-edge-restricted-connected graph is also studied.

A graph G is said to be hyper-connected if the removal of every minimum cut creates exactly two connected components, one of which is an isolated vertex. In this paper, we first generalize the concept of hyper-connected graphs to that of semi-hyper-connected graphs: a graph G is called semi-hyper-connected if the removal of every minimum cut of G creates exactly two components. Then we characterize semi-hyper-connected edge transitive graphs.

In this paper we present an algorithm to generate all minimal 3-vertex connected spanning subgraphs of an undirected graph with n vertices and m edges in incremental polynomial time, i.e., for every K we can generate K (or all) minimal 3-vertex connected spanning subgraphs of a given graph in O(K2log(K)m2+K2m3) time, where n and m are the number of vertices and edges of the input graph, respectively. This is an improvement over what was previously available and is the same as the best known running time for generating 2-vertex connected spanning subgraphs. Our result is obtained by applying the decomposition theory of 2-vertex connected graphs to the graphs obtained from minimal 3-vertex connected graphs by removing a single edge.

We show that for an n-gon with unit diameter to have maximum area, its diameter graph must contain a cycle, and we derive an isodiametric theorem for such n-gons in terms of the length of the cycle. We then apply this theorem to prove Graham's 1975 conjecture that the diameter graph of a maximal 2m-gon (m?3) must be a cycle of length 2m−1 with one additional edge attached to it.

An edge cut of a connected graph is called restricted if it separates this graph into components each having order at least 2; a graph G is super restricted edge connected if GS contains an isolated edge for every minimum restricted edge cut S of G. It is proved in this paper that k-regular connected graph G is super restricted edge connected if k > |V(G)|/2+1. The lower bound on k is exemplified to be sharp to some extent. With this observation, we determined the number of edge cuts of size at most 2k−2 of these graphs. The restricted‐edge‐connectivity of a graph G, denoted by λ′(G), is defined as the minimum cardinality over all edge‐cuts S of G, where GS contains no isolated vertices. The graph G is called λ′‐optimal, if λ′(G) = ξ(G), where ξ(G) is the minimum edge‐degree in G. A graph is super‐edge‐connected, if every minimum edge‐cut consists of edges adjacent to a vertex of minimum degree. In this paper, we present sufficient conditions for arbitrary, triangle‐free, and bipartite graphs to be λ′‐optimal, as well as conditions depending on the clique number. These conditions imply super‐edge‐connectivity, if δ (G) ≥ 3, and the equality of edge‐connectivity and minimum degree. Different examples will show that these conditions are best possible and independent of other results in this area. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Graph Theory 48: 228–246, 2005  相似文献

Optimally super-edge-connected transitive graphs
Jixiang Meng   《Discrete Mathematics》2003,260(1-3):239-248
Let X=(V,E) be a connected regular graph. X is said to be super-edge-connected if every minimum edge cut of X is a set of edges incident with some vertex. The restricted edge connectivity λ′(X) of X is the minimum number of edges whose removal disconnects X into non-trivial components. A super-edge-connected k-regular graph is said to be optimally super-edge-connected if its restricted edge connectivity attains the maximum 2k−2. In this paper, we define the λ′-atoms of graphs with respect to restricted edge connectivity and show that if X is a k-regular k-edge-connected graph whose λ′-atoms have size at least 3, then any two distinct λ′-atoms are disjoint. Using this property, we characterize the super-edge-connected or optimally super-edge-connected transitive graphs and Cayley graphs. In particular, we classify the optimally super-edge-connected quasiminimal Cayley graphs and Cayley graphs of diameter 2. As a consequence, we show that almost all Cayley graphs are optimally super-edge-connected.

A cycle cover (cut cover) of a graph G is a collection of cycles (cuts) of G that covers every edge of G at least once. The total size of a cycle cover (cut cover) is the sum of the number of edges of the cycles (cuts) in the cover. We discuss several results for cycle covers and the corresponding results for cut covers. Our main result is that every connected graph on n vertices and e edges has a cut cover of total size at most 2e-n+1 with equality precisely when every block of the graph is an odd cycle or a complete graph (other than K4 or K8). This corresponds to the result of Fan [J. Combin. Theory Ser. B 74 (1998) 353-367] that every graph without cut-edges has a cycle cover of total size at most e+n-1.

For a connected graph G = (V, E), an edge set S ì E{S\subset E} is called a k-restricted edge cut if GS is disconnected and every component of GS contains at least k vertices. The k-restricted edge connectivity of G, denoted by λ k (G), is defined as the cardinality of a minimum k-restricted edge cut. For two disjoint vertex sets U1,U2 ì V(G){U_1,U_2\subset V(G)}, denote the set of edges of G with one end in U 1 and the other in U 2 by [U 1, U 2]. Define xk(G)=min{|[U,V(G)\ U]|: U{\xi_k(G)=\min\{|[U,V(G){\setminus} U]|: U} is a vertex subset of order k of G and the subgraph induced by U is connected}. A graph G is said to be λ k -optimal if λ k (G) = ξ k (G). A graph is said to be super-λ k if every minimum k-restricted edge cut is a set of edges incident to a certain connected subgraph of order k. In this paper, we present some degree-sum conditions for balanced bipartite graphs to be λ k -optimal or super-λ k . Moreover, we demonstrate that our results are best possible.
