Let R=k[x1,…,xn] be a polynomial ring and let IR be a graded ideal. In [T. Römer, Betti numbers and shifts in minimal graded free resolutions, arXiv: AC/070119], Römer asked whether under the Cohen–Macaulay assumption the ith Betti number βi(R/I) can be bounded above by a function of the maximal shifts in the minimal graded free R-resolution of R/I as well as bounded below by a function of the minimal shifts. The goal of this paper is to establish such bounds for graded Cohen–Macaulay algebras k[x1,…,xn]/I when I is a standard determinantal ideal of arbitrary codimension. We also discuss other examples as well as when these bounds are sharp.  相似文献

In the papers (Benoumhani 1996;1997), Benoumhani defined two polynomials Fm,n,1(x) and Fm,n,2(x). Then, he defined Am(n,k) and Bm(n,k) to be the polynomials satisfying Fm,n,1(x)=k=0nAm(n,k)xn?k(x+1)k and Fm,n,1(x)=k=0nBm(n,k)xn?k(x+1)k. In this paper, we give a combinatorial interpretation of the coefficients of Am+1(n,k) and prove a symmetry of the coefficients, i.e., [ms]Am+1(n,k)=[mn?s]Am+1(n,n?k). We give a combinatorial interpretation of Bm+1(n,k) and prove that Bm+1(n,n?1) is a polynomial in m with non-negative integer coefficients. We also prove that if n6 then all coefficients of Bm+1(n,n?2) except the coefficient of mn?1 are non-negative integers. For all n, the coefficient of mn?1 in Bm+1(n,n?2) is ?(n?1), and when n5 some other coefficients of Bm+1(n,n?2) are also negative.  相似文献

Crapo found that single-element extensions of matroid are equivalent to modular cuts. This paper will study the single-element extension and co-extension of a matroid and establish the upper semi-continuity for the signless coefficients of Whitney polynomials and Whitney numbers on both extensions via its extension lattice, a lattice of all non-empty modular cuts.  相似文献

Let be an irreducible crystallographic root system with Weyl group , coroot lattice and Coxeter number , spanning a Euclidean space , and let be a positive integer. It is known that the set of regions into which the fundamental chamber of is dissected by the hyperplanes in of the form for and is equinumerous to the set of orbits of the action of on the quotient . A bijection between these two sets, as well as a bijection to the set of certain chains of order ideals in the root poset of , are described and are shown to preserve certain natural statistics on these sets. The number of elements of these sets and their corresponding refinements generalize the classical Catalan and Narayana numbers, which occur in the special case and .

We compute the Betti numbers of the resolution of a special class of square-free monomial ideals, the ideals of mixed products. Moreover when these ideals are Cohen-Macaulay we calculate their type. Received: 9 March 2008  相似文献

Let Γ be a rooted (and directed) tree, and let t be a positive integer. The path ideal It(Γ) is generated by monomials that correspond to directed paths of length (t−1) in Γ. In this paper, we study algebraic properties and invariants of It(Γ). We give a recursive formula to compute the graded Betti numbers of It(Γ) in terms of path ideals of subtrees. We also give a general bound for the regularity, explicitly compute the linear strand, and investigate when It(Γ) has a linear resolution.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with developing a new class of generalized numbers. The main advantage of this class is that it generalizes the two classes of generalized Fibonacci numbers and generalized Pell numbers. Some new identities involving these generalized numbers are obtained. In addition, the two well-known identities of Sury and Marques which are recently developed are deduced as special cases. Moreover, some other interesting identities involving the celebrated Fibonacci, Lucas, Pell and Pell–Lucas numbers are also deduced.  相似文献

The index of a graded ideal measures the number of linear steps in the graded minimal free resolution of the ideal. In this paper, we study the index of powers and squarefree powers of edge ideals. Our results indicate that the index as a function of the power of an edge ideal I is strictly increasing if I is linearly presented. Examples show that this needs not to be the case for monomial ideals generated in degree greater than two.  相似文献

We use the correspondence between hypergraphs and their associated edge ideals to study the minimal graded free resolution of squarefree monomial ideals. The theme of this paper is to understand how the combinatorial structure of a hypergraph ℋ appears within the resolution of its edge ideal ℐ(ℋ). We discuss when recursive formulas to compute the graded Betti numbers of ℐ(ℋ) in terms of its sub-hypergraphs can be obtained; these results generalize our previous work (Hà, H.T., Van Tuyl, A. in J. Algebra 309:405–425, 2007) on the edge ideals of simple graphs. We introduce a class of hypergraphs, which we call properly-connected, that naturally generalizes simple graphs from the point of view that distances between intersecting edges are “well behaved.” For such a hypergraph ℋ (and thus, for any simple graph), we give a lower bound for the regularity of ℐ(ℋ) via combinatorial information describing ℋ and an upper bound for the regularity when ℋ=G is a simple graph. We also introduce triangulated hypergraphs that are properly-connected hypergraphs generalizing chordal graphs. When ℋ is a triangulated hypergraph, we explicitly compute the regularity of ℐ(ℋ) and show that the graded Betti numbers of ℐ(ℋ) are independent of the ground field. As a consequence, many known results about the graded Betti numbers of forests can now be extended to chordal graphs. Dedicated to Anthony V. Geramita on the occasion of his 65th birthday.  相似文献

In this paper we prove Pardue's conjecture on the regularity of principal -Borel ideals. As a consequence we obtain an upper bound for the regularity of general -Borel ideals.

In this paper, we will show that the color-squarefree operation does not change the graded Betti numbers of strongly color-stable ideals. In addition, we will give an example of a nonpure balanced complex which shows that colored algebraic shifting, which was introduced by Babson and Novik, does not always preserve the dimension of reduced homology groups of balanced simplicial complexes. We present a new approach to the study of multiplier ideals in a local, two-dimensional setting. Our method allows us to deal with ideals, graded systems of ideals and plurisubharmonic functions in a unified way. Among the applications are a formula for the complex integrability exponent of a plurisubharmonic function in terms of Kiselman numbers, and a proof of the openness conjecture by Demailly and Kollár. Our technique also yields new proofs of two recent results: one on the structure of the set of complex singularity exponents for holomorphic functions; the other by Lipman and Watanabe on the realization of ideals as multiplier ideals.

Numbers of the form are called Generalized Fermat Numbers (GFN). A computational method for testing the probable primality of a GFN is described which is as fast as testing a number of the form . The theoretical distributions of GFN primes, for fixed , are derived and compared to the actual distributions. The predictions are surprisingly accurate and can be used to support Bateman and Horn's quantitative form of ``Hypothesis H" of Schinzel and Sierpinski. A list of the current largest known GFN primes is included.

Based on abstract interpolation, we prove asymptotic formulae for the (F,2)-summing norm of inclusions id: , where E and F are two Banach sequence spaces. Here, stands for the unitary ideal of operators on the n-dimensional Hilbert space whose singular values belong to E, and for the Hilbert-Schmidt operators. Our results are noncommutative analogues of results due to Bennett and Carl, as well as their recent generalizations to Banach sequence spaces. As an application, we give lower and upper estimates for certain s-numbers of the embeddings id: and id: . In the concluding section, we finally consider mixing norms. A search for prime factors of the generalized Fermat numbers has been carried out for all pairs with and GCD. The search limit on the factors, which all have the form , was for and for . Many larger primes of this form have also been tried as factors of . Several thousand new factors were found, which are given in our tables.-For the smaller of the numbers, i.e. for , or, if , for , the cofactors, after removal of the factors found, were subjected to primality tests, and if composite with , searched for larger factors by using the ECM, and in some cases the MPQS, PPMPQS, or SNFS. As a result all numbers with are now completely factored.

We study Hankel transform of the sequences (u,l,d),t, and the classical Motzkin numbers. Using the method based on orthogonal polynomials, we give closed‐form evaluations of the Hankel transform of the aforementioned sequences, sums of two consecutive, and shifted sequences. We also show that these sequences satisfy some interesting convolutional properties. Finally, we partially consider the Hankel transform evaluation of the sums of two consecutive shifted (u,l,d)‐Motzkin numbers. Copyright © 2017 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献
