Direct numerical simulations of the Navier–Stokes equations have been carried out with the objective of studying turbulent boundary layers in adverse pressure gradients. The boundary layer flows concerned are of the equilibrium type which makes the analysis simpler and the results can be compared with earlier experiments and simulations. This type of turbulent boundary layers also permits an analysis of the equation of motion to predict separation. The linear analysis based on the assumption of asymptotically high Reynolds number gives results that are not applicable to finite Reynolds number flows. A different non-linear approach is presented to obtain a useful relation between the freestream variation and other mean flow parameters. Comparison of turbulent statistics from the zero pressure gradient case and two adverse pressure gradient cases shows the development of an outer peak in the turbulent energy in agreement with experiment. The turbulent flows have also been investigated using a differential Reynolds stress model. Profiles for velocity and turbulence quantities obtained from the direct numerical simulations were used as initial data. The initial transients in the model predictions vanished rapidly. The model predictions are compared with the direct simulations and low Reynolds number effects are investigated.  相似文献

Two-point correlation measurements of the wall normal fluctuating velocities were made in two-dimensional (2-D) and pressure-driven three-dimensional (3-D) turbulent boundary layers. These data are needed for characterization and modeling of active-motion length scales, especially for 3-D flows. The fine-probe-volume data were measured using two custom-designed laser-Doppler-velocimeter fiber-optic probes. The data are relatively free of noise, signal broadening, and bias effects. Favorable comparisons with direct-numerical-simulation (DNS) results in the near-wall region of the 2-D flow validate the experimental techniques used here. For a given fixed probe location, non-dimensional correlation values scale best on the probe separation. For both the 2-D and 3-D cases, peak correlations lie along a line inclined away from the wall at 11° and 8°, respectively, which suggests the existence of an outgoing characteristic line affected by only the upstream flow. The decay of the correlation coefficient occurs nearer the wall than away from the wall relative to the fixed probe location. The variations for the 3-D flow correlations are similar to the 2-D variations, but with longer Δ x +and Δ y + decay distances, probably because of the 3-D flowacceleration. While the spanwise variation of the correlationcoefficients is symmetric about the fixed point for the 2-D case asdictated by reciprocity, the 3-D case shows a large asymmetry for spanwise variations Δ z + < 68. The profiles at higher Δ z + are more symmetric. In general, at a given y the maximum correlation is skewed toa non-zero Δ z. It appears that the skewing of the correlation coefficient in the z direction tracks the sign of . This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Absorbing boundary conditions for computational aeroacoustics (CAA) are reviewed. Commonly used absorbing zonal techniques, such as sponge layers and buffer zones, as well as perfectly matched layers (PML) are discussed. The basic ideas and central results of these methods are surveyed and summarized. Special attention will be given to the recently emerged PML technique and its application to CAA. Numerical examples are presented for PML in duct acoustics. A comparison of PML and non-PML absorbing boundary conditions will also be given.  相似文献

In this paper, the nonlinear normal modes (NNMs) of a thin beamresting on a nonlinear spring bed subjected to an axial tension isstudied. An energy-based method is used to obtain NNMs. In conjunction with amatched asymptotic expansion, we analyze, through simple formulas, thelocal effects that a small bending stiffness has on the dynamics, alongwith the secular effects caused by a symmetric nonlinearity. Nonlinearmode shapes are computed and compared with those of the unperturbedlinear system. A double asymptotic expansion is employed to compute theboundary layers in the nonlinear mode shape due to the small bendingstiffness. Satisfactory agreement between the theoretical and numericalbackbone curves of the system in the frequency domain is observed.  相似文献

Let v=v(x) be a non-trivial bounded steady solution of a viscous scalar conservation law u t+f(u) x =u xx on a half-line R+, with a Dirichlet boundary condition. The semi-group of this IBVP is known to be contractive for the distance d(u, u)uu1 induced by L 1(R+). We prove here that v is asymptotically stable with respect to d: if u 0vL 1, then u(t)–v10 as t+. When v is a constant, we show that this property holds if and only if f(v)0. This paper deals with acoustic radiation by a thin elastic shell, closed by two perfectly rigid discs, immersed in water and filled with air. The system is driven by an internal acoustic source. The shell has a length L, is clamped along one of its boundaries and is freely supported along the other boundary. Using the infinite domain Green's function, the radiated acoustic pressure is modeled by a hybrid layer potential (linear combination with nonreal coefficient of a simple layer and a double layer). Using Green's tensor of the in vacuo shell operator, the shell displacement is expressed as the sum of the field generated by the acoustic pressures and that due to boundary sources. Finally, the Green's function of the interior Neumann problem is used to express the acoustic pressure inside the shell in terms of the acoustic source and shell normal displacement: this representation fails for any frequency equal to one of the resonance frequencies of the shell interior. To overcome this, a light fluid approximation, which is allowed because the inner fluid is a gas, is adopted. Around each resonance frequency, an inner approximation is defined which matches the classical outer approximation. By using formal asymptotic expansions, we build one-dimensional models for slender hyperelastic cylinders submitted to conservative loads. According to the order of magnitude of the applied loads, we obtain a hierarchy of models going from the linear theory of flexible bars to the nonlinear theory of extensible strings.

We study the influence of the type of loading on the asymptotic behavior of linearly elastic, isotropic and homogeneous slender circular rings. By using formal asymptotic expansions, we obtain three families of models depending on the properties of the loads. If the loads expend work in inextensional displacements, then we find the classical model where the leading term of the energy corresponds to the bending-torsion energy of inextensional displacements. If the loads do no work in inextensional displacements, the model must be refined and we obtain two other types of models. In these other models, which depend on the type of loading, the leading term of the energy contains additional terms such as, for the second class, an extension energy due to the circumferential stretching of the ring, and even, for the third class, specific load-dependent contributions. The unsteady interaction of plane-channel wall boundary layers with a supersonic inviscid flow is investigated. The flow regimes in which disturbances introduced by the boundary layer developing on one wall influence the boundary layer on the other wall are considered. The regime of relatively large pressure disturbance amplitudes generated near the nozzle outlet or by deforming the channel walls is studied. In these conditions, the interaction process is described by a system of Burgers equations with retarded arguments. Numerical solutions of this system are obtained for symmetric and antisymmetric perturbations of the channel walls.  相似文献

The important recent progress in three-dimensional boundary-layer transition research is reviewed with emphasis on the crossflow instability that leads to transition on swept wings with a favorable pressure gradient. Following a brief overview of swept-wing instability mechanisms and the crossflow problem, a summary of the important findings of the 1990s is given. The discussion is presented from the experimental viewpoint, and where appropriate, relevant comparisons with CFD are drawn. The recent research conducted with distributed roughness is described in more detail in order to underscore the latest developments concerning nonlinear effects and transition control.Sommario. The response of a turbulent boundary layer to a short roughness strip is investigated using laser Doppler velocimetry (LDV) and laser induced fluorescence (LIF). Skin friction coefficients are inferred from accurate near-wall measurements. There is an undershoot in , where is the undisturbed smooth wall skin friction coefficient, immediately after the strip. Downstream of the strip, overshoots before relaxing back to unity in an oscillatory manner. The roughness strip has a major effect on the turbulent stresses ; these quantities increase, relative to the undisturbed smooth wall, in the region between the two internal layers originating at the upstream and downstream edges of the strip. The increase in the ratio suggests a decrease in near-wall anisotropy. From the flow visualizations, it is inferred that streamwise vortical structures are weakened immediately downstream of the strip. Consistently, streamwise length scales are also reduced; direct support for this is provided by measured two-point velocity correlations.  相似文献

Similarity solutions for the three-dimensional flow and heat transfer of a power-law fluid near a stagnation point of an isothermal surface are presented. The results of the numerical integrations are given in tables and shown on graphs for some different values of the power-law index n, geometric parameter c, and the Prandtl number Pr. Whenever possible, these results are compared with available analytical solutions and found to be highly accurate.  相似文献

Predicting the Collapse of Turbulence in Stably Stratified Boundary Layers   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6  
The collapse of turbulence in a plane channel flow is studied, as a simple analogy of stably stratified atmospheric flow. Turbulence is parameterized by first-order closure and the surface heat flux is prescribed, together with the wind speed and temperature at the model top. To study the collapse phenomenon both numerical simulations and linear stability analysis are used. The stability analysis is nonclassical in a sense that the stability of a parameterized set of equations of a turbulent flow is analyzed instead of a particular laminar flow solution. The analytical theory predicts a collapse of turbulence when a certain critical value of the stability parameter δ/L (typically O(0.5–1)) is exceeded, with δ the depth of the channel and L the Obukhov length. The exact critical value depends on channel roughness to depth ratio z 0/δ. The analytical predictions are validated by the numerical simulations, and good agreement is found. As such, for the flow configuration considered, the present framework provides both a tool and a physical explanation for the collapse phenomenon.  相似文献

This paper studies the partial differential equation with a small coefficient in the highest-order item. This kind of equation is also named as boundary layer problem. The Burgers equation and modified Burgers equation are analyzed in this approach. First, these equations are transferred into the strong nonlinear ones, and then the corresponding strong nonlinear equations are solved based on the perturbation method. 采用理想可压缩流体无旋定常流动以及超空泡尾部Riabushinsky闭合方式假定,基于细长体理论和匹配渐近展开法,建立了描述水下亚声速条件下细长锥型射弹超空泡流动的积分微分方程。求解得到了考虑压缩性影响的超空泡形态1阶和2阶近似解,改进了超空泡形态的计算精度。分析了射弹高速冲击条件下流体压缩性对超空泡形态的影响,随着马赫数的增加,超空泡形态将发生更加显著的膨胀变化。计算得到的超空泡特征参数与相关文献的理论和实验结果吻合良好。  相似文献

For plate bending in one-dimensional (1D) hexagonal quasicrystals (QCs), the reciprocal theorem and the general solution for QCs media are applied in a novel way to obtain the appropriate stress and mixed boundary conditions accurate to all order for plates of general edge geometry and loadings. Through generalizing the method developed by Gregory and Wan, a set of necessary conditions on the edge-data for the existence of a rapidly decaying solution is established. The prescribed data must satisfy these conditions in order that they should generate a decaying state. When a set of stress edge-data or mixed edge-data is imposed on the plate edge, these decaying state conditions for the case of axisymmetric deformation of 1D hexagonal QC plates are derived explicitly. They are then used for the correct formulation of boundary conditions for the plate theory solution (or the interior solution). Furthermore, in the absence of phonon–phason fields coupling effect, corresponding necessary conditions for the case of transversely isotropic elastic plates are derived subsequently, and their isotropic elastic counterparts are also obtained.   相似文献
