Abstract Sufficient conditions of convergence and rate of convergence for Lagrange type interpolation in theWeighted L~p norm on an arbitrary system of nodes are given.     

Convergence of Gaussian Quadrature and Lagrange Interpolation in Haar Systems

Consider a Markov system of functions whose linear span is dense with respect to the uniform norm in the space of the continuous functions on a finite interval. Gaussian rules are those which correctly integrate as many successive basis functions as possible with the lesser number of nodes. In this paper we provide a simple proof of the fact that such rules converge for all bounded Riemann-Stieltjes integrable functions. The proposed proof is also valid for any sequence of quadrature rules with positive coefficients which converge for the basis functions. Taking the nodes of the Gaussian rules as nodes for Lagrange interpolation, we give a sufficient condition for the convergence in L ₂-norm of such processes for bounded Riemann-Stieltjes integrable functions.

In this paper,we shall use Nevanlinna theory of meromorphic functions to investigate the complex oscillation theory of solutions of some higher order linear differential equation.Suppose that A is a transcendental entire function with ρ(A)<1/2.Suppose that k≥2 and f(k)+A(z)f=0 has a solution f with λ(f)<ρ(A),and suppose that A1=A+h,where h≡0 is an entire function with ρ(h)<ρ(A).Then g(k)+A1(z)g=0 does not have a solution g with λ(g)<∞.     

Gaussian quadrature and acceleration of convergence

The aim of this paper is to take up again the study done in previous papers, to the case where the integrand possesses an algebraic singularity within the interval of integration. The singularities or poles close to the interval of integration considered in this paper are only real or purely imaginary. Convergence of Gaussian quadrature formulas on infinite intervals

More general and stronger estimations of bounds for the fundamental functions of Hermite interpolation of high order on an arbitrary system of nodes on infinite intervals are given. Based on this result, convergence of Gaussian quadrature formulas for Riemann–Stieltjes integrable functions on an arbitrary system of nodes on infinite intervals is discussed.     

On families of quadrature formulas based on Euler identities

A family consisting of quadrature formulas which are exact for all polynomials of order ?5 is studied. Changing the coefficients, a second family of quadrature formulas, with the degree of exactness higher than that of the formulas from the first family, is produced. These formulas contain values of the first derivative at the end points of the interval and are sometimes called “corrected”.     

On the Zero-Divergence of Equidistant Lagrange Interpolation

 In 1942, P. Szász published the surprising result that if a function f is of bounded variation on [−1, 1] and continuous at 0 then the sequence of the equidistant Lagrange interpolation polynomials converges at 0 to . In the present note we give a construction of a function continuous on [−1, 1] whose Lagrange polynomials diverge at 0. Moreover, we show that the rate of divergence attains almost the maximal possible rate. (Received 2 February 2000)

Mean Convergence of Extended Lagrange Interpolation for Exponential Weights

In this paper, we complete our investigations of mean convergence of Lagrange interpolation for fast decaying even and smooth exponential weights on the line. In doing so, we also present a summary of recent related work on the line and [–1,1] by the authors, Szabados, Vertesi, Lubinsky and Matjila. We also emphasize the important and fundamental ideas, applied in our proofs, that were developed by Erds, Turan, Askey, Freud, Nevai, Szabados, Vértesi and their students and collaborators. These methods include forward quadrature estimates, orthogonal expansions, Hilbert transforms, bounds on Lebesgue functions and the uniform boundedness principle.     

Weighted Convergence of Lagrange Interpolation Based on Gauss-Kronrod Nodes

The Gauss-Kronrod quadrature scheme, which is based on the zeros of Legendrepolynomials and Stieltjes polynomials, is a standard rule for automaticnumerical integration in mathematical software libraries. For a long time,very little was known about the underlying Lagrange interpolationprocesses. Recently, the authors proved new bounds and asymptoticproperties for the Stieltjes polynomials and, subsequently, appliedthese results to investigate the associated interpolation processes. Thepurpose of this paper is to survey the quality of these interpolationprocesses, with additional results that extend and complete the existingones. The principal new results in this paper are necessary and sufficientconditions for weighted convergence. In particular, we show that theLagrange interpolation polynomials associated with the above interpolationprocesses have the same speed of convergence as the polynomials of bestapproximation in certain weighted Besov spaces.

In this work,the well-known problem put forward by S N Bernstein in 1930 is studied in a deep step.An operator is constructed by revising double interpolation nodes.It is proved that the operator converges to arbitrary continuous functions uniformly and the convergence order is the best.
