An experimental study of the flowfield generated by the interaction of a streamwise vortex having a strong wake-type axial Mach number profile and a two-dimensional oblique shock wave was conducted in a Mach 2.49 flow. The experiments were aimed at investigating the dynamics of supersonic vortex distortion and to study downstream behavior of a streamwise vortex during a strong shock wave/vortex encounter. The experiments involved positioning an oblique shock generator in the form of a two-dimensional wedge downstream of a semi-span, vortex generator wing section so that the wing-tip vortex interacted with the otherwise planar oblique shock wave. Planar laser sheet visualizations of the flowfield indicated an expansion of the vortex core in crossing a spherically blunt-nose shock front. The maximum vortex core diameter occurred at a distance of 12.7 mm downstream of the wedge leading edge where the vortex had a core diameter of more than double its undisturbed value. At distances further downstream the vortex core diameter remained nearly constant, while it appeared to become more diffused at distances far from the wedge leading edge. Measurements of vortex trajectory revealed that the vortex convected in the freestream direction immediately downstream of the bulged-forward shock structure, while it traveled parallel to the wedge surface at distances further downstream. The turbulent distorted vortex structure which formed as a result of the interaction, was found to be sensitive to downstream disturbances in a manner consistent with incompressible vortex breakdown. Physical arguments are presented to relate behavior of streamwise vortices during oblique and normal shock wave interactions. Received 7 September 1996 / Accepted 10 February 1998  相似文献

The interaction between an air shock wave and a rigid wall covered by a porous screen is investigated numerically and experimentally. A mathematical two velocity with two stress tensors model is used for studying the wave processes in saturated porous media. The process of reflection of a step-type wave from a rigid wall covered with a porous layer is considered, the effect of the porous medium and wave parameters on the reflection is analyzed, and the numerical results are compared with the experimental data.Received: 30 July 2002, Accepted: 24 December 2002, Published online: 27 May 2003  相似文献

This paper presents an experimental and numerical investigation of three-dimensional shock wave reflections over a corner of two wedges intersecting perpendicularly in a shock tube. Experiments were conducted in a diaphragmless shock tube equipped with double-exposure diffuse holographic interferometry in which the time interval between the first and second exposure was set to be . This arrangement clearly visualized complex configurations of three-dimensional shock wave reflections. A numerical study was also carried out for interpreting these holographic interferometric observations by using the Weighted Average Flux (WAF) method to solve the three-dimensional unsteady compressible Euler equations. It was found that along the line of the intersection of these two wedges, two Mach stems intersected each other resulting in the formation of a Mach stem which leaned forward. The problem of wave propagation in a dust–air mixture inside a branched channel has not been studied widely in literature, even though this topic has many important applications especially in process safety (dust explosions). In this paper, a shock wave interaction with a cloud of solid particles, and the further behaviour of both gas and particulate phases were studied using numerical techniques. The geometry mimicked a real channel where bends or branches are common. Two numerical approaches were used: Eulerian–Eulerian and Eulerian–Lagrangian. Using Eulerian-Lagrangian simulation, it was possible to include the effects of particle–particle and particle–wall collisions in a realistic and direct manner. Results are mainly shown as snap-shots of particle positions during the simulations and statistics for the particle displacement. The results show that collisions significantly influence the process of particle cloud formation. PACS47.40.Nm, 02.60.Cb, 47.55.kf  相似文献

An attached planar, oblique shock with sweep is investigated for the inviscid flow of a perfect gas. The ratio of specific heats, freestream Mach number, and wedge angle in the plane of the freestream velocity are prescribed, with the sweep angle as a free parameter. Explicit relations are provided for jump and detachment conditions. A number of trends, some non-intuitive, are discussed, e.g., the downstream Mach number may increase with sweep.  相似文献

This paper deals with the formation of a secondary shock wave behind the shock wave diffracting at a two-dimensional convex corner for incident shock Mach numbers ranging from 1.03 to 1.74 in air. Experiments were carried out using a 60 mm 150 mm shock tube equipped with holographic interferometry. The threshold incident shock wave Mach number () at which a secondary shock wave appeared was found to be = 1.32 at an 81° corner and = 1.33 at a 120° corner. These secondary shock waves are formed due to the existence of a locally supersonic flow behind the diffracting shock wave. Behind the diffracting shock wave, the subsonic flow is accelerated and eventually becomes locally supersonic. A simple unsteady flow analysis revealed that for gases with specific heats ratio the threshold shock wave Mach number was = 1.346. When the value of is less than this, the vortex is formed at the corner without any discontinuous waves accompanying above the slip line. The viscosity was found to be less effective on the threshold of the secondary shock wave, although it attenuated the pressure jump at the secondary shock wave. This is well understood by the consideration of the effect of the wall friction in one-dimensional duct flows. In order to interpret the experimental results a numerical simulation using a shock adaptive unstructured grid Eulerian solver was also carried out. The present paper, which is a collaboration between three different research groups, analyzes the efficiency of various numerical approaches to describe the complex problem of shock wave/boundary layer interaction. Computations were carried out based on a kinetic approach (Direct Simulation Monte Carlo method) and on two continuum approaches (Navier-Stokes equations and quasigasdynamic equations), which are validated by comparison with experimental results obtained in the R5Ch blowdown Hypersonic Wind Tunnel in ONERA. The influence of the slip boundary conditions for two continuum approaches are also studied. The results obtained by all models display the good prediction of the main structure of the flow and the levels of the flux coefficients are very close to those measured. The implementation of the slip boundary condition for the continuum approaches improves the agreement with the experimental data. The present paper is devoted to experimental and theoretical investigation of the shock wave (SW) propagation in a mixture of gas and solid particles in the presence of explicit boundaries of the two-phase region (cloud of particles). The effect of the qualitative change in the supersonic flow behind the SW in a cloud of particles within the range of the volume concentration of the disperse phase 0.1-3% is experimentally shown and theoretically grounded. Results of the benchmark test are presented of comparing numerical schemes solving shock wave of Ms = 2.38 in nitrogen and argon interacting with a 43∘ semi-apex angle cone and corresponding experiments. The benchmark test was announced in Shock Waves Vol. 12, No. 4, in which we tried to clarify the effects of viscosity and heat conductivity on shock reflection in conical flows. This paper summarizes results of ten numerical and two experimental applications. State of the art in studies regarding the shock/cone interaction is clarified. Experimental investigation of the interaction of shock waves with textiles   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Experimental studies have been performed to investigate the pressure amplification experienced behind a textile when exposed to a shock wave. Three textiles with different masses and air permeabilities were studied. Mach numbers for tests varied between 1.23 and 1.55. The distance between the back wall and the textile was varied between 3 and 15 mm. It was found that in most cases the presence of the textile led to a pressure amplification at the back wall. This amplification was dependent on the textile, Mach number and distance from the back wall. The processes causing the pressure amplification were identified by analysing pressure traces and contact shadowgraphs. It was found that when the incident wave impinges on the textile, a part is reflected upstream and a part is transmitted through the textile. The transmitted portion reflects back and forth in the gap between the textile and the back wall leading to a back wall pressure trace with a stepped profile. In addition, the textile moves towards the back wall causing compression waves to propagate towards the back wall. The combination of the stepped profile and the compression waves cause the pressure amplification. The contribution of each mechanism depends on the textile properties. Approximate wave diagrams have been constructed. Tests involving multiple layers of textiles are also discussed. Received 17 October 2000 / Accepted 2 February 2001  相似文献

The equations governing the head-on collision of a planar shock wave with a cellular material and a numerical scheme for solving the set of the governing equations were outlined. In addition, the condition for the transmitted compression waves to transform into a shock wave, inside the cellular material was introduced. It was proved analytically that a cellular material cannot be used as a means of reducing the pressure load acting on the end-wall of the shock tube. In subsequent papers, the interaction of planar shock waves with specific cellular materials, e.g., foams and honeycombs will be described in detail. This article was processed using Springer-Verlag TEX Shock Waves macro package 1.0 and the AMS fonts, developed by the American Mathematical Society.  相似文献

Abstract. Laser-Induced Incandescence (LII) is a relatively new optical diagnostic for particle sizing which is currently used in combustion science. Its advantage against light extinction and light scattering methods is the possibility of getting size information with high time and space resolution even for nano-particles. LII is mostly applied to particle formation or particle removal in reactive stationary flows, but it can also be used in shock-induced reactive flows. This is demonstrated in three examples: soot particle formation during high temperature pyrolysis of benzene, iron particle formation from iron pentacarbonyl, and formation of carbon-coated iron particles. From the principles of LII, it is not possible to obtain a complete particle growth curve from one individual shock tube experiment. Therefore, the kinetics of particle growth evolution must be determined from several “identical” shock tube experiments with a delayed triggering of the heat-up laser. The principles of LII, the in-situ measurement of particle size, and the comparison to beam-collected particles, which were visualized by a high resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM), are demonstrated. It was found that the energy accommodation coefficient during the particle cooling is for a soot surface but is significantly lower e.g. for an iron surface. The problem of a plane shock wave incident to a paraboloidal reflector is numerically investigated. The numerical solver used is developed by an improved, implicit, upwind total variation diminishing scheme in a finite-volume approach. The real-gas effect is taken into account if high temperature occurs. The solver is validated on four test problems. The complicated flow fields of axisymmetric shock wave focusing for different-depth reflectors at various incident shock Mach numbers are studied. An interesting result of a maximum pressure happening at the reflector center is found. This is due to the occurrence of an implosion phenomenon. A maximum temperature might occur at the reflector center or at other locations, depending on the incident shock Mach number and the reflector depth. Moreover, vortical flows induced by shock wave focusing and their formation mechanism are explored. It was found that the vortices near the reflector are caused by a ring-shaped shock/slipline interaction. Owing to the slipline on the symmetry axis, a jet flow is induced, resulting in the formation of vortices near the symmetry axis. Received 13 January 1998 / Accepted 10 November 1998  相似文献

A simple two-dimensional square cavity model is used to study shock attenuating effects of dust suspension in air. The GRP scheme for compressible flows was extended to simulate the fluid dynamics of dilute dust suspensions, employing the conventional two-phase approximation. A planar shock of constant intensity propagated in pure air over flat ground and diffracted into a square cavity filled with a dusty quiescent suspension. Shock intensities were and , dust loading ratios were and , and particle diameters were and {\rm \mu}$m. It was found that the diffraction patterns in the cavity were decisively attenuated by the dust suspension, particularly for the higher loading ratio. The particle size has a pronounced effect on the flow and wave pattern developed inside the cavity. Wall pressure histories were recorded for each of the three cavity walls, showing a clear attenuating effect of the dust suspension. Received 15 November 1999 / Accepted 25 October 2000  相似文献

Results of shock-wave experiments in solids often suggest a nearly-linear relation between the particle velocity behind the shock and the shock wave speed. The present note reconsiders the question of whether thermoelastic material models may be consistent with such observations. Emphasis is placed on the role played by the response of the material in severe compression, as distinguished from its response for small or moderate deformations. The details are illustrated for materials of Mie-Grüneisen type. Received 21 December 2001 / Accepted 22 April 2002 Published online 8 July 2002  相似文献

Previous detailed studies of the interaction of a shock wave with a perforated sheet considered the impact of a shock wave on a plate with regularly spaced slits giving area blockages of 60 and 67%, at various angles of incidence, and resulting in both regular and Mach reflection. The current work extends this study to a much wider variety of plate geometries. Blockage ratios of 20, 25, 33, 50, and 67 and inclinations of 45, 60, 75, and 90° to the shock wave were tested. Four different thicknesses of plate were tested at the same frontal blockage in order to assess the effects of gap guidance. Tests were conducted at two shock Mach numbers of 1.36 and 1.51 (inverse pressure ratios of 0.4 and 0.5). It is found that secondary reflected and transmitted waves appear due to the complex interactions within the grid gaps, and that the vortex pattern which is generated under the plate is also complex due to these interactions. The angle of the reflected shock, measured relative to the plate, decreases with plate blockage and the angle of inflow to the plate reduces with increasing blockage. By analysing the flow on the underside of the plate the pseudo-steady flow assumption is found to be a reasonable approximation. Both the pressure difference and the stagnation pressure loss across the plate are evaluated. It is found that over the range tested the plate thickness has a minimal effect.  相似文献

Although important flow parameters as Mach number, Reynolds number and total enthalpy can be reproduced in most hypersonic experiments quite well, due to different surface temperature effects in wind tunnel and flight, scaling as well as specific flow properties of shock wave/boundary layer interactions are different. This especially holds for short-duration facilities like, e.g. shock tunnels where due to short running times the models remain more or less at ambient temperature. To overcome this shortcoming, an experimental study has been conducted using a preheatable ramp model with 15° ramp angle. This allowed us to adjust the surfaces to an arbitrary temperature just before the experiment started. Pressure and heat flux measurements clearly showed the effect of varying surface and free stream temperatures. These results are supported by schlieren pictures and infrared measurements. The comparison of the measurements with theoretical and numerical results shows a good agreement. Separation bubble scaling laws proposed by Katzer and Davis have been applied and partially confirmed using the local conditions of the boundary layer at separation.  相似文献

This paper deals with the waves that are reflected from slabs of porous compressible foam attached to a rigid wall when impacted by a weak shock wave. The interest is in establishing possible attenuation of the pressure field after a shock or blast wave has struck the surface. Foam densities from 14 to 38 kg/m3 were tested over a range of shock wave Mach numbers less than 1.4. It is shown that the initial reflected shock wave strength is accurately predicted by the pseudo-gas model of Gelfand et al. (1983), with a pressure ratio of approximately 80% of the value for reflection off a rigid wall. Evidence is presented of gas entering the foam during the early stages of the process. A second wave emerges from the foam at a later stage and is separated from the first by a region of constant velocity and pressure. This second wave is not a shock wave but a compression front of significant thickness, which emerges from the foam earlier than predicted by the pseudo-gas model. Analysis of the origin of this wave points to much more complex flows within the foam than previously assumed, particularly in an apparent decrease in average wave front speed as the foam is compressed. It is shown that the pressure ratio across both these waves taken together is slightly higher than that for reflection off a rigid wall. In some cases this compression wave train is followed by a weak expansion wave. This article was processed using Springer-Verlag TEX Shock Waves macro package 1990.  相似文献

Shock wave reflection over a rotating circular cylinder is numerically and experimentally investigated. It is shown that the transition from the regular reflection to the Mach reflection is promoted on the cylinder surface which rotates in the same direction of the incident shock motion, whereas it is retarded on the surface that rotates to the reverse direction. Numerical calculations solving the Navier-Stokes equations using extremely fine grids also reveal that the reflected shock transition from RR MR is either advanced or retarded depending on whether or not the surface motion favors the incident shock wave. The interpretation of viscous effects on the reflected shock transition is given by the dimensional analysis and from the viewpoint of signal propagation.Received: 24 April 2002, Accepted: 16 August 2002, Published online: 25 March 2003  相似文献
