While growing a chiral sculptured thin film by physical vapor deposition, a sudden change in the direction of the vapor flux creates a plane of discontinuity. In effect, this is a planar interface between two different structurally chiral materials. Theoretical analysis shows that more than one Dyakonov-Tamm waves, with different phase speeds and degrees of localization to this interface, may propagate in different directions guided by the interface.  相似文献

Aerospace structures often contain multi-layered metallic components where hidden defects such as fatigue cracks and localized disbonds can develop, necessitating non-destructive testing. Employing standard wedge transducers, high frequency guided ultrasonic waves that penetrate through the complete thickness were generated in a model structure consisting of two adhesively bonded aluminium plates. Interference occurs between the wave modes during propagation along the structure, resulting in a frequency dependent variation of the energy through the thickness with distance. The wave propagation along the specimen was measured experimentally using a laser interferometer. Good agreement with theoretical predictions and two-dimensional finite element simulations was found. Significant propagation distance with a strong, non-dispersive main wave pulse was achieved. The interaction of the high frequency guided ultrasonic waves with small notches in the aluminium layer facing the sealant and on the bottom surface of the multilayer structure was investigated. Standard pulse-echo measurements were conducted to verify the detection sensitivity and the influence of the stand-off distance predicted from the finite element simulations. The results demonstrated the potential of high frequency guided waves for hidden defect detection at critical and difficult to access locations in aerospace structures from a stand-off distance.  相似文献

The excitation of multiple surface-plasmon-polariton (SPP) waves—of different linear polarization states, phase speeds and spatial profiles—guided by the interface of a metal film and a rugate filter in the Kretschmann configuration was investigated. A plane wave of either of the two linear polarization states was made incident on the metal-capped rugate filter of finite thickness and the absorptances were calculated using a stable algorithm. The excitation of SPP waves was inferred by the presence of those peaks in the absorptance curves that were independent of the thickness of the rugate filter. The absorptance peaks representing the excitation of s-polarized SPP waves are narrower than those representing p-polarized SPP waves. For efficient excitation of multiple SPP waves, the metal film's thickness should be close to the penetration depth of the metal. The solution of a canonical boundary-value problem of SPP-wave propagation guided by a metal film, with a semi-infinite homogeneous dielectric material on one side and a semi-infinite rugate filter on the other side, reinforced the results obtained for the Kretschmann configuration. The thin metal film in the Kretschmann configuration may lead to coupling of its two interfaces.  相似文献

提出谱有限元方法研究层状各向异性复合板中导波的色散特性和波结构。基于三维弹性动力学方程,用有限元方法离散波导截面,波传播方向的位移用简谐波表示,得到了导波色散的特征方程。分析了单层和双层复合板中导波沿不同方向传播的色散特性和波结构,讨论了双层复合板中层厚比对相速度的影响。数值研究结果表明:导波的对称模态沿纤维方向传播时在较宽的频率范围内保持弱色散状态。双层复合板中导波基本模态的相速度在低频时受层厚比的影响较明显,随着频率的增加趋向于相速度较低的材料。数值模拟结果为导波用于复合材料定量无损检测和性能评价提供理论依据。   相似文献

给出了任意倾斜偏置磁场作用下相位失配时微波静磁波与导波光的磁光耦合方程,分析了相位失配对导波光衍射效率及其衍射方向的影响.计算了YIG薄膜波导中静磁反向体波与导波光非共线作用的Bragg衍射效率, 传统磁化时计算结果与实验结果一致.计算表明,与传统磁化情形相比,适当的偏斜磁场可使导波光衍射效率提高6dB以上;当导波光入射角保持不变时,由磁场方向改变引起的相位失配对衍射效率的影响不大.因此,优化偏置磁场方向是改善磁光Bragg器件衍射性能、提高磁光带宽的有效方法. 关键词: 磁光效应 Bragg衍射 静磁波  相似文献

Localization of fatigue-related micro-cracks in pipelines is of increasing importance in industrial applications. A three-dimensional (3D) fatigue-crack imaging technique combining nonlinear guided waves with time reversal is proposed in this paper for potential applications in pipeline inspections. By using this method, the non-classical nonlinear guided waves generated from micro-cracks with hysteretic behavior are recorded, and the third harmonic waves are used to reconstruct the fatigue-crack images in a pipe by using a time reversal (TR) process. The feasibility of this method is examined by the imaging simulations for a steel pipe with varied defect areas. A finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) code is programmed to solve the wave equations under cylindrical coordinates, and simulate the experimental process of wave propagation. The results show that: (1) the proposed technique has excellent spatial retrofocusing capability; (2) the accuracy of defect localization and sizing depends on the crack orientation and the adopted guided wave mode; and (3) different displacement/stress components have varied sensitivities to the crack orientation.  相似文献

Long bones are good waveguides to support the propagation of ultrasonic guided waves. The low-order guided waves have been consistently observed in quantitative ultrasound bone studies. Selective excitation of these low-order guided modes requires oblique incidence of the ultrasound beam using a transducer-wedge system. It is generally assumed that an angle of incidence, θi, generates a specific phase velocity of interest, co, via Snell’s law, θi = sin−1(vw/co) where vw is the velocity of the coupling medium. In this study, we investigated the excitation of guided waves within a 6.3-mm thick brass plate and a 6.5-mm thick bovine bone plate using an ultrasound phased array system with two 0.75-mm-pitch array probes. Arranging five elements as a group, the first group of a 16-element probe was used as a transmitter and a 64-element probe was a receiver array. The beam was steered for six angles (0°, 20°, 30°, 40°, 50°, and 60°) with a 1.6-MHz source signal. An adjoint Radon transform algorithm mapped the time-offset matrix into the frequency-phase velocity dispersion panels. The imaged Lamb plate modes were identified by the theoretical dispersion curves. The results show that the 0° excitation generated many modes with no modal discrimination and the oblique beam excited a spectrum of phase velocities spread asymmetrically about co. The width of the excitation region decreased as the steering angle increased, rendering modal selectivity at large angles. The phenomena were well predicted by the excitation function of the source influence theory. The low-order modes were better imaged at steering angle ?30° for both plates. The study has also demonstrated the feasibility of using the two-probe phased array system for future in vivo study.  相似文献

The propagation of guided waves in photonic crystal fibers (PCFs) is studied. A photonic crystal fiber can be regarded as a perfect two-dimensional photonic crystal (PC) with a line defect along the axial direction. Under the assumption that the background spectrum has gaps, we give a simple condition on the parameters of the medium and of the line defect, which ensures the rise of eigenvalues in a specified subinterval of the given gap of the photonic crystal fiber. Using the modified Combes-Thomas estimates, we prove that the eigenfunctions corresponding to the eigenvalues decay exponentially away from the line defect. The guided waves in the surface plasmon polariton gap waveguide (SPGW) excited by the Gaussian beam through the I-shaped aperture have been investigated by the three-dimensional simulations using a volume integral equation. Optical fields excited in the SPGW are investigated under practical conditions. The complex propagation constants are calculated from the simulated optical fields using the least-squares fitting. The dependence of the propagation constant, i.e., attenuation and phase constants, on the gap-width and on the gap-depth of SPGW is investigated. To cite this article: K. Tanaka et al., C. R. The general propagation characteristics of magnetostatic surface waves guided by a single interface of a semi-infinite nonlinear dielectric cover and a ferromagnetic substrate (YIG) have been derived. The nonlinear dielectric cover has intensity dependent refractive indices. The magnetostatic approximation is considered and retardation is ignored in describing the electromagnetic fields in the structure. The used magnetostatic approximation is leading to new waves and might be called nonlinear magnetostatic surface waves. The propagation of these waves is non-reciprocal in contrast to the linear magnetostaic surface waves, which had been only found in the negative direction of propagation.  相似文献

针对常规线性超声检测方法无法实现板结构接触类缺陷(如微裂纹、脱粘等)检测问题,将超声导波技术与振动声调制技术相结合,利用稀疏分布传感器发展了一种板结构中接触缺陷非线性超声检测方法。通过低频振动改变缺陷的接触状况,使得通过接触面的高频导波信号的相位和幅值受到调制。对受低频振动调制的超声导波二维时间序列进行时频分析,由于接触类缺陷的存在,在振动调制超声导波序列的时频分布上出现明显的低频振动频率分量。利用提取出的低频振动频率下的超声导波信号,进行了结构接触缺陷成像处理。检测试验表明,基于振动声调制的超声导波缺陷成像方法可以实现结构中的接触类缺陷检测。   相似文献

The influence of defects on the phase behaviour of Rb-doped K2ZnCl4-single crystals is studied using high-resolution gamma-ray diffractions in combination with in situ dielectric impedance spectroscopy. It is shown that the interaction between strain fields near discommensurations within the incommensurate phase and impurity ions lead to the formation of defect density waves. On rapid cooling, these are unable to relax and persist within the commensurate phase thus acting as an intrinsic memory. Hence, a metastable re-entrant incommensurate phase is observed on heating at temperatures well below the normal lock-in temperature that is found in equilibrium studies.  相似文献

The propagation of non-axisymmetric guided waves in larger diameter pipes is studied in this paper by treating the guided waves as corresponding Lamb waves in an unwrapped plate. This approximation leads to a simpler method for calculating the phase velocities of hollow cylinder guided waves, which reveals a beam focusing nature of non-axisymmetric guided waves generated by a partial source loading. The acoustic fields in a pipe generated by a partial-loading source includes axisymmetric longitudinal modes as well as non-axisymmetric flexural modes. The circumferential distribution of the total acoustic field, also referred as an angular profile, diverges circumferentially while guided waves propagate with dependence on such factors as mode, frequency, cylinder size, propagation distance, etc. Exact prediction of the angular profile of the total field can only be realized by numerical calculations. In particular cases, however, when the wall thickness is far less than the cylinder diameter and the wavelength is smaller than or comparable to the pipe wall thickness, the acoustic field can be analyzed based on the characteristics of Lamb waves that travel along a periodic unwrapped plate. Based on this assumption, a simplified model is derived to calculate the phase velocities of non-axisymmetric flexural mode guided waves. The model is then applied to discussions on some particular characteristics of guided-wave angular profiles generated by a source loading. Some features of flexural modes, such as cutoff frequency values are predicted with the simpler model. The relationship between the angular profiles and other factors such as frequency, propagation distance, and cylinder size is obtained and presented in simple equations. The angular profile rate of change with respect to propagation distance is investigated. In particular, our simplified model for non-axisymmetric guided waves predicts that the wave beam will converge to its original circumferential shape after the wave propagates for a certain distance. A concept of "natural focal point" is introduced and a simple equation is derived to compute the 1st natural focal distance of non-axisymmetric guided waves. The applicable range of the simplified equation is provided. Industrial pipes meet the requirement of wall thickness being far less than the pipe diameter. The approximate analytical algorithms presented in this paper provides a convenient method enabling quick acoustic field analysis on large-diameter industrial pipes for NDE applications.  相似文献

The dispersion and excitation mechanisms and the energy distribution of guided waves in a stratified half-space are studied. All possible guided waves excited by a symmetric point source in two or three-layer medium models and their relation to the medium parameters are analyzed in detail. The excitation and propagation characteristics, as well as the energy distribution along the depth direction, of all modes of the surface waves and trapped waves are numerically investigated and analyzed thoroughly not only in the case when the shear wave velocity increases from up to down layers but also when a low-velocity layer is contained in halfspace, especially when the shear wave velocity decreases from up to down layers. It is found that there exist many guided wave modes in the case where the shear wave velocity of each layer increases from up to down layers. However, there is less than one guided wave mode in the case where the shear wave velocity of each layer decreases from up to down layers. The trapped waves exist and propagate along the low-velocity structure in the stratified half-space. It is also found that the characteristic of a mode is related to the source frequency. It is possible that a surface wave at one value of frequency is like a trapped wave at another value of frequency. Finally, the relation of the characteristics of all guided waves (surface waves and trapped waves) to the parameters of media is studied.  相似文献

For acoustic waves propagating in an acoustooptic tellurium crystal, the dependence of their polarization on the propagation direction with respect to the crystal axes is discussed. The characteristic features of waves propagating in the crystal are considered; these features manifest themselves in an excess of the phase velocity of shear acoustic modes over the velocity of longitudinal modes. The change in the wave type from quasi-longitudinal to quasi-transverse as a result of the variation in the propagation direction of ultrasound is investigated. It is shown that such a behavior of bulk acoustic waves is caused by the specific relation between the elastic moduli, which differs from the corresponding relations observed in other acoustooptic materials.  相似文献

随着管道服役时间的增加,其损伤逐渐累积,最终导致泄漏或爆炸事故。引入导波在线监测管道损伤是确保其安全运行的重要保障。周向零阶水平剪切(CSH0)波具有不易频散、对管道轴向缺陷敏感等优秀特性,非常适用于管道轴向缺陷的定量表征。该文基于周向SH0导波在管道的传播特性,通过有限元模拟和试验对管道周向SH0模态导波与轴向缺陷的定量关系展开研究。结果表明:管道曲率半径越大,周向SH0模态的传播特性越接近板中SH0模态的传播特性;导波信号的反射系数和透射系数对轴向缺陷的长度和深度均呈现单调变化。依此建立了缺陷定量表征的关系云图,可用于评估缺陷尺寸。  相似文献

This study analytically investigates the propagation of shear waves (SH waves) in a coupled plate consisting of a piezoelectric layer and an elastic layer with initial stress. The piezoelectric material is polarized in z-axis direction and perfectly bonded to an elastic layer. The mechanical displacement and electrical potential function are derived for the piezoelectric coupled plates by solving the electromechanical field equations. The effects of the thickness ratio and the initial stress on the dispersion relations and the phase and group velocities are obtained for electrically open and mechanically free situations. The numerical examples are provided to illustrate graphically the variations of the phase and group velocities versus the wave number for the different layers comparatively. It is seen that the phase velocity of SH waves decreases with the increase of the magnitude of the initial compression stress, while it increases with the increase of the magnitude of the initial tensile stress. The initial stress has a great effect on the propagation of SH waves with the decrease of the thickness ratio. This research is theoretically useful for the design of surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices with high performance.  相似文献

A nonlinear acoustic technique for detection of contact defects in plates was developed associating guided waves with vibro-modulation techniques.The low frequency vibration varies the interface area within the contact defect;then the amplitude and phase of high frequency guided waves reflected from the contact defect will be modulated.Due to the exiting of contact defects,there was obvious low frequency component in the time-frequency distribution of modulated guided wave series.Furthermore the nonlinear responses at frequency of vibration were extracted out and used for defect imaging.It was shown that the nonlinear guided wave imaging method based on vibration modulation can effectively characterize and locate the nonlinear contact defects.  相似文献

The dispersion relations of waves propagating in a system consisting of an elastic rod of radius a embedded in a linear elastic medium are investigated, and phase speeds of waves of wavelength λ which propagate under steady state conditions are determined. The dispersive behaviour is found to be dependent on several non-dimensional parameters defined by the geometric ratio aλ, as well as on non-dimensional ratios of the rod-medium properties. It is shown that the resulting waves which can propagate under steady state conditions are surface waves which decay with the radial distance and which permit no radiation damping of energy. It is further shown that such waves can propagate freely only if the propagation speed of longitudinal waves in the corresponding free rod is less than that of shear waves propagating in the medium. Results are presented by means of dispersion curves and surfaces. From a study of the analytical results obtained, lower and upper bounds on the phase speeds are established.  相似文献
