In this paper, a protection scheme for transmitters in wavelength-division-multiplexing passive optical network (WDM-PON) has been proposed and demonstrated. If any downstream transmitter encounters problems at the central office (CO), the interrupted communication can be restored immediately by injecting a Fabry-Perot laser diode (FP-LD) with the upstream lightwave corresponding to the failure transmitter. Compared with the conventional methods, this proposed architecture provides a cost-effective and reliable protection scheme employing a common FP-LD. In the experiment, a 1:36 protection capability was implemented with a 2.5 Gbit/s downstream transmission capability.  相似文献

We present a wavelength-switchable erbium-doped fiber ring laser consisting of an anti-reflection coated Fabry-Perot laser diode (FP-LD) and a sampled fiber Bragg grating (SFBG). The wavelength switching is obtained easily by the shift of FP mode with respect to the reflection peaks of the SFBG. The proposed laser apparatus not only simultaneously emits two wavelengths but also switches between the two wavelengths by adjusting the modes of FP-LD with a change of the injection current of the FP-LD as little as ∼1 mA. The proposed wavelength-switchable erbium-doped fiber ring laser exhibits high laser performance with side-mode suppression ratio (SMSR) ?50 dB.  相似文献

We present the measurement of spectral distribution of a high repetition rate dye laser by deriving explicit relationship of the parameters with ring diameter of the Fabry–Perot fringe pattern. The output characteristics and its variation has been represented by generating a composite picture of a single line scan across the ring diameter of the Fabry–Perot fringe, captured through CCD camera and frame grabber card.  相似文献

In the paper, the simple method of laser chirp parameters estimation is presented. It is based on measuring time-domain distortions of chirped signal transmitted through dispersive fiber and finding laser chirp parameters by matching measured distortions to calculated ones. Experiments undertaken with 1.55 μm telecommunication grade distributed feedback (DFB) lasers and standard single-mode fiber are described, together with some practical remarks on measurement setup and main conclusions.  相似文献

In this investigation, we propose and investigate the simple self-injection locked Fabry-Perot laser diodes (FP-LDs) in optical line terminal (OLT); and wavelength-tunable optical network unit (ONU) using reflective optical semiconductor amplifier (RSOA) and FP-LD laser for downstream and upstream traffic in long reach (LR) wavelength division multiplexed-passive optical network (WDM-PON) respectively. The output performance of the proposed two laser sources in terms of power and side-mode suppression ratio (SMSR) has been discussed. Here, for the downstream traffic, the proposed optical transmitter can be directly modulated at 2.5 Gb/s on-off keying (OOK) format with nearly 0.4 dB power penalty at bit error rate (BER) of 10−9 through 75 km single-mode fiber (SMF) transmission. Moreover, the proposed upstream transmitter can be directly modulated at 1.25 and 2.5 Gb/s with nearly 0.5 and 1.1 dB power penalty, respectively, at the BER of 10−9.  相似文献

The rate-equation and the Fabry-Perot amplifier models for injection locked laser diodes are compared. Both models give identical results at the limiting case of no injected signal. The Fabry-Perot model predicts a wider locking bandwidth and is more useful for large signal applications. The rate-equation model is suitable for investigating the dynamic properties. The direct intensity modulation of a three-guide coupled rectangular ring laser having bidirectional lasing characteristics is reported for the first time. The rectangular laser cavity consists of four low loss total internal reflection mirrors and an output coupler made out of three passive coupled waveguides. The laser is fabricated using a total cavity length of 580 μm with active section lengths of 250 μm. For both the clockwise and counterclockwise circulating directions, a lasing threshold of around 38 mA is obtained at room temperature under continuous wave operation. A maximum 3-dB modulation bandwidth of approximately 3.2 GHz is observed in both circulating directions.  相似文献

A variant of zero-angle light scattering is proposed with particular emphasis on the use of this technique for measuring chemical reaction rates. The system analyzed consists of a laser oscillator with a reacting sample placed inside the resonant cavity. Fluctuations about equilibrium of the chemical reaction frequency modulate the oscillator, and the power spectrum of the modulating signal is Lorentzian with width proportional to the reaction rate. The modulation signal is very weak, but should be detectable with modern techniques.  相似文献

在各类光学系统设计过程中,由于实验系统对于光学器件的透反射率要求不同,需要确定光学器件的透反射率。本文设计了一种对光学器件的透反射率进行精准测量及标定的系统,该系统通过对激光光源进行声光调制,使得激光输出功率的稳定度显著提高,避免了测量时光源不稳定带来的较大误差。实验结果表明,该系统能够稳定光源输出功率,稳定度维持在0.05%/h,甚至更高的水平,满足了光学器件透反射率测量的误差小,精度高等要求。  相似文献

波分复用无源光网络具有支路多、节点密的特征,为精确定位各支路的断点,提出了一种基于可调谐混沌Fabry-Perot激光器的检测方法.将光反馈多纵模Fabry-Perot半导体激光器作为混沌光源,在改变反馈光光波模式的条件下输出波长可调谐的混沌激光.以探测光的波长标记各被测支路,将探测信号和携带延时信息的回波信号进行互相关运算,根据相关曲线峰值的位置即可完成定位.分析了可调谐混沌源的特性,并以1×4的波分复用无源光网络为例,进行了初步的实验验证,结果表明该方法可以精确定位光网络支路中连接点及断点的位置,空间分辨率达4 cm,且与探测距离无关.  相似文献

A method for modulation of semiconductor lasers is demonstrated. The method is based on the modulation of the optical confinement factor. Using this method an enhanced—3-dB bandwidth is observed in agreement with the small signal rate equation analysis. A modulation response that drops at high frequencies slower than the conventional direct current modulation response is achieved. This supports the theoretical predictions, showing an intrinsic 1/f decay rate for the optical confinement factor modulation scheme versus an intrinsic 1/f2 decay for direct modulation.  相似文献

In this paper, we present a full-duplex radio-over-fiber system incorporating both optical millimeter-wave (mm-wave) generation and wavelength reuse for uplink connection. The optical double sidebands (DSB) signal is generated by using only one inexpensive broadband direct modulation laser (DML), to which a mixing RF signal is applied. An optical interleaver is then used to separate the first-order optical sidebands from the optical carrier of optical DSB signal. The separated first-order optical sidebands are beat to generate mm-wave signal that has double the frequency of the RF drive signal, while the separated optical carrier is reused as light source to remodulate uplink signal. Both detailed theoretical analysis and experiments to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed system are presented. Experiment result shows that the bidirectional 2.5 Gb/s data can be successfully transmitted over 40 km standard single-mode fiber (SSMF) with less than 2 dB power penalty.  相似文献

A complete and detailed model is presented that describes the main physical phenomena that occur in an actively mode-locked fiber ring laser based on cross-gain modulation in a semiconductor optical amplifier employed as both the gain medium and mode-locking element. The relationship between key laser parameters and the output pulse characteristics is numerically analyzed to provide simple design rules and derive a set of necessary operational conditions. The adoption of these rules and the satisfaction of these conditions enables the optimization of the laser performance and the generation of short and high energy mode-locked output pulses.  相似文献

An experimental and theoretical study of a high repetition rate laser source operating on a novel mode-locking technique is presented. This technique relies on the fast saturation and recovery of a semiconductor optical amplifier induced by an external optical pulse and has been used to obtain 4.3 ps pulses at 20 GHz. A complete mathematical model of the fiber ring laser is presented describing the mode-locking process in the laser oscillator and providing solutions for the steady-state mode-locked pulse profile. The critical parameters of the system are defined and analyzed and their impact on the formation of the mode-locked pulses is examined. The comparison between the theoretical results and the experimental data reveals very good agreement and has allowed the optimization of the performance of the system in terms of its critical parameters.  相似文献

实验研究了飞秒激光干涉条纹在CS2介质中传输的增长率与条纹间隔以及增长率与中心峰值强度的关系。结果发现,在非线性介质中传输的1维干涉调制特别是当其调制频率位于中心光强对应的最快增长频率附近时,随着传输距离的增加调制场迅速获得增长,将高斯光束分裂成多根峰值强度很高的带状细丝。相应的数值模拟与实验结果具有较好的一致性。  相似文献
