Exact Controllability to Trajectories for a Semilinear Heat Equation with a Superlinear Nonlinearity

In this paper, we consider exact controllability to trajectories for a semilinear heat equation with nonlinearity that has superlinear growth at infinity with Dirichlet boundary conditions in a bounded domain of ? ^N . The results are established by using the variational methods, the related duality theory and Kakutani Fixed-point Theorem and generalize the previous results.     

Insensitizing controls for a nonlinear parabolic equation with a nonlinear term involving the state and the gradient in unbounded domains

In this paper, we consider the existence of insensitizing control for a semilinear heat equation involving gradient terms in unbounded domain Ω. In this case, we prove the existence of controls insensitizing the L²-norm of the observation of the solution in an open subset of the domain. The proofs of the main results in this paper involve such inequalities and rely on the study of these linear problems and appropriate fixed point arguments.     

Nonexistence of Type Ⅱ Blowup for Heat Equation with Exponential Nonlinearity

This paper deals with the blowup behavior of the radially symmetric solution of the nonlinear heat equation ut = ?u + e~u in R~N. The authors show the nonexistence of type II blowup under radial symmetric case in the lower supercritical range 3 ≤ N ≤ 9,and give a sufficient condition for the occurrence of type I blowup. The result extends that of Fila and Pulkkinen(2008) in a finite ball to the whole space.     

Existence of Optimal Controls for Semilinear Parabolic Equations without Cesari-Type Conditions

   Abstract. Optimal control problems governed by semilinear parabolic partial differential equations are considered. No Cesari-type conditions are assumed. By proving the existence theorem and the Pontryagin maximum principle of optimal ``state-control" pairs for the corresponding relaxed problems, an existence theorem of optimal pairs for the original problem is established.

The author deals with a semi-linear edge-degenerate parabolic equation, and proves that the solution increases exponentially under the initial energy J(u₀) ≤ d, where d is the mountain-pass level. A phenomenon of waiting time in phase change problems driven by radiative heat transfer

In the paper (J. Food Process Eng. 2008; in press) we emphasized that during a phase change process in which the heat input is driven by a radiation transfer mechanism, a peculiar phenomenon may occur, characterized by a temporary stop of the increase of the boundary temperature due to a sudden change of the heat transfer coefficient upon phase transition. This time interval is needed to allow the thermal properties of the surface to evolve toward a state that is compatible with the heat intake rate corresponding to the new phase. The occurrence of the waiting time is motivated and studied for a general one‐dimensional Stefan problem. Then an application is presented to the much complicated problem considered in (J.
