Large “O” and small “o” approximations of the expected value of a class of smooth functions (f Cr(R)) of the normalized partial sums of dependent random variable by the expectation of the corresponding functions of normal random variables have been established. The same types of approximations are also obtained for dependent random vectors. The technique used is the Lindberg-Levy method generalized by Dvoretzky to dependent random variables.  相似文献

Polynomial identity rings as rings of functions   总被引:2,自引:1,他引:1
We generalize the usual relationship between irreducible Zariski closed subsets of the affine space, their defining ideals, coordinate rings, and function fields, to a non-commutative setting, where “varieties” carry a PGLn-action, regular and rational “functions” on them are matrix-valued, “coordinate rings” are prime polynomial identity algebras, and “function fields” are central simple algebras of degree n. In particular, a prime polynomial identity algebra of degree n is finitely generated if and only if it arises as the “coordinate ring” of a “variety” in this setting. For n=1 our definitions and results reduce to those of classical affine algebraic geometry.  相似文献

We extend the geometric approach of Cheney and Loeb in [2] to the problem of approximation in Lp(μ) by “admissable” generalized rational functions. We obtain a characterization for locally best approximations and find the interpolating condition sufficient for their local unicity. Our results are comparable to those for the linear approximation problem as investigated by Singer and Ault, Deutsch, Morris, and Olson.  相似文献

Convergence properties of sequences of continuous functions, with kth order divided differences bounded from above or below, are studied. It is found that for such sequences, convergence in a “monotone norm” (e.g., Lp) on [a, b] to a continuous function implies uniform convergence of the sequence and its derivatives up to order k − 1 (whenever they exist), in any closed subinterval of [a, b]. Uniform convergence in the closed interval [a, b] follows from the boundedness from below and above of the kth order divided differences. These results are applied to the estimation of the degree of approximation in Monotone and Restricted Derivative approximation, via bounds for the same problems with only one restricted derivative.  相似文献

Let {Vk} be a nested sequence of closed subspaces that constitute a multiresolution analysis of L2( ). We characterize the family Φ = {φ} where each φ generates this multiresolution analysis such that the two-scale relation of φ is governed by a finite sequence. In particular, we identify the ε Φ that has minimum support. We also characterize the collection Ψ of functions η such that each η generates the orthogonal complementary subspaces Wk of Vk, . In particular, the minimally supported ψ ε Ψ is determined. Hence, the “B-spline” and “B-wavelet” pair (, ψ) provides the most economical and computational efficient “spline” representations and “wavelet” decompositions of L2 functions from the “spline” spaces Vk and “wavelet” spaces Wk, k . A very general duality principle, which yields the dual bases of both {(·−j):j and {η(·−j):j } for any η ε Ψ by essentially interchanging the pair of two-scale sequences with the pair of decomposition sequences, is also established. For many filtering applications, it is very important to select a multiresolution for which both and ψ have linear phases. Hence, “non-symmetric” and ψ, such as the compactly supported orthogonal ones introduced by Daubechies, are sometimes undesirable for these applications. Conditions on linear-phase φ and ψ are established in this paper. In particular, even-order polynomial B-splines and B-wavelets φm and ψm have linear phases, but the odd-order B-wavelet only has generalized linear phases.  相似文献

In this paper we develop the theory of generalized triangular matrix representation in an abstract setting. This is accomplished by introducing the concept of a set of left triangulating idempotents. These idempotents determine a generalized triangular matrix representation for an algebra. The existence of a set of left triangulating idempotents does not depend on any specific conditions on the algebras; however, if the algebra satisfies a mild finiteness condition, then such a set can be refined to a “complete” set of left triangulating idempotents in which each “diagonal” subalgebra has no nontrivial generalized triangular matrix representation. We then apply our theory to obtain new results on generalized triangular matrix representations, including extensions of several well known results.  相似文献

A unified method is presented for enumerating permutations of sets and multisets with various conditions on their descents, inversions, etc. We first prove several formal identities involving Möbius functions associated with binomial posets. We then show that for certain binomial posets these Möbius functions are related to problems in permutation enumeration. Thus, for instance, we can explain “why” the exponential generating function for alternating permutations has the simple form (1 + sin x)/(cos x). We can also clarify the reason for the ubiquitous appearance of ex in connection with permutations of sets, and of ξ(s) in connection with permutations of multisets.  相似文献

Let be a finite generalized quadrangle of order (s,t),s,t>1. An “elation about a point p” of is an automorphism fixing p linewise and fixing no point which is not collinear with p. An elation that generates a cyclic group of elations is called a “standard elation”. One of the problems already considered in Payne and Thas (Finite Generalized Quadrangles (1984)) is to determine just when the set of elations about the point (∞) is a group. The purpose of this paper is to provide an example where this is not the case, and then to show that for a flock generalized quadrangle the usual group of elations about (∞) is the complete set of standard elations about (∞).  相似文献

For any 2D triangulation τ, the 1-skeleton mesh of τ is the wireframe mesh defined by the edges of τ, while that for any 3D triangulation τ, the 1-skeleton and the 2-skeleton meshes, respectively, correspond to the wireframe mesh formed by the edges of τ and the “surface” mesh defined by the triangular faces of τ. A skeleton-regular partition of a triangle or a tetrahedra, is a partition that globally applied over each element of a conforming mesh (where the intersection of adjacent elements is a vertex or a common face, or a common edge) produce both a refined conforming mesh and refined and conforming skeleton meshes. Such a partition divides all the edges (and all the faces) of an individual element in the same number of edges (faces). We prove that sequences of meshes constructed by applying a skeleton-regular partition over each element of the preceding mesh have an associated set of difference equations which relate the number of elements, faces, edges and vertices of the nth and (n−1)th meshes. By using these constitutive difference equations we prove that asymptotically the average number of adjacencies over these meshes (number of triangles by node and number of tetrahedra by vertex) is constant when n goes to infinity. We relate these results with the non-degeneracy properties of longest-edge based partitions in 2D and include empirical results which support the conjecture that analogous results hold in 3D.  相似文献

We initiate a general approach for the fast enumeration of permutations with a prescribed number of occurrences of “forbidden” patterns that seems to indicate that the enumerating sequence is always P-recursive. We illustrate the method completely in terms of the patterns “abc,” “cab,” and “abcd.”  相似文献

Euler's partition theorem states that the number of partitions of an integer N into odd parts is equal to the number of partitions of N in which the ratio of successive parts is greater than 1. It was shown by Bousquet-Mélou and Eriksson in [M. Bousquet-Mélou, K. Eriksson, Lecture hall partitions II, Ramanujan J. 1 (2) (1997) 165–185] that a similar result holds when “odd parts” is replaced by “parts that are sums of successive terms of an -sequence” and the ratio “1” is replaced by a root of the characteristic polynomial of the -sequence. This generalization of Euler's theorem is intrinsically different from the many others that have appeared, as it involves a family of partitions constrained by the ratio of successive parts. In this paper, we provide a surprisingly simple bijection for this result, a question suggested by Richard Stanley. In fact, we give a parametrized family of bijections, that include, as special cases, Sylvester's bijection and a bijection for the lecture hall theorem. We introduce Sylvester diagrams as a way to visualize these bijections and deduce their properties. In proving the bijections, we uncover the intrinsic role played by the combinatorics of -sequences and use this structure to give a combinatorial characterization of the partitions defined by the ratio constraint. Several open questions suggested by this work are described.  相似文献

The problem of approximating smooth Lp-functions from spaces spanned by the integer translates of a radially symmetric function φ is very well understood. In case the points of translation, Ξ, are scattered throughout d, the approximation problem is only well understood in the “stationary” setting. In this work, we provide lower bounds on the obtainable approximation orders in the “non-stationary” setting under the assumption that Ξ is a small perturbation of d. The functions which we can approximate belong to certain Besov spaces. Our results, which are similar in many respects to the known results for the case Ξ= d, apply specifically to the examples of the Gauss kernel and the generalized multiquadric.  相似文献

We use particular fuzzy relation equations for compression/decompression of colour images in the RGB and YUV spaces, by comparing the results of the reconstructed images obtained in both cases. Our tests are made over well known images of 256×256 pixels (8 bits per pixel in each band) extracted from Corel Gallery. After the decomposition of each image in the three bands of the RGB and YUV colour spaces, the compression is performed using fuzzy relation equations of “min - →t” type, where “t” is the Lukasiewicz t-norm and “→t” is its residuum. Any image is subdivided in blocks and each block is compressed by optimizing a parameter inserted in the Gaussian membership functions of the fuzzy sets, used as coders in the fuzzy equations. The decompression process is realized via a fuzzy relation equation of max-t type. In both RGB and YUV spaces we evaluate and compare the root means square error (RMSE) and the consequentpeak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) on the decompressed images with respect to the original image under several compression rates.  相似文献

The properties of L2-approximable sequences established here form a complete toolkit for statistical results concerning weighted sums of random variables, where the weights are nonstochastic sequences approximated in some sense by square-integrable functions and the random variables are “two-wing” averages of martingale differences. The results constitute the first significant advancement in the theory of L2-approximable sequences since 1976 when Moussatat introduced a narrower notion of L2-generated sequences. The method relies on a study of certain linear operators in the spaces Lp and lp. A criterion of Lp-approximability is given. The results are new even when the weight generating function is identically 1. A central limit theorem for quadratic forms of random variables illustrates the method.  相似文献

We consider linear equations v=A(t)v with a polynomial asymptotic behavior, that can be stable, unstable and central. We show that this behavior is exhibited by a large class of differential equations, by giving necessary and sufficient conditions in terms of generalized “polynomial” Lyapunov exponents for the existence of polynomial behavior. In particular, any linear equation in block form in a finite-dimensional space, with three blocks having “polynomial” Lyapunov exponents respectively negative, positive, and zero, has a nonuniform version of polynomial trichotomy, which corresponds to the usual notion of trichotomy but now with polynomial growth rates. We also obtain sharp bounds for the constants in the notion of polynomial trichotomy. In addition, we establish the persistence under sufficiently small nonlinear perturbations of the stability of a nonuniform polynomial contraction.  相似文献

We make use of the “path sum” function to prove that the family of stretched operator functions characterized by the operator irrep labels p,q,…,q, 0,…, 0 satisfy a pair of general difference equations. This family of functions is a generalization of Milne's p,q,…,q, 0, functions for U(n) and Biedenharn and Louck's p,q, 0 functions for U(3). The fact that this family of stretched operator functions are polynomials follows from a detailed study of their symmetries and zeros. As a further application of our general difference equations and symmetry properties we give an explicit formula for the polynomials characterized by the operator irrep labels p, 1, 0,…, 0.  相似文献

Let {u0, u1,… un − 1} and {u0, u1,…, un} be Tchebycheff-systems of continuous functions on [a, b] and let f ε C[a, b] be generalized convex with respect to {u0, u1,…, un − 1}. In a series of papers ([1], [2], [3]) D. Amir and Z. Ziegler discuss some properties of elements of best approximation to f from the linear spans of {u0, u1,…, un − 1} and {u0, u1,…, un} in the Lp-norms, 1 p ∞, and show (under different conditions for different values of p) that these properties, when valid for all subintervals of [a, b], can characterize generalized convex functions. Their methods of proof rely on characterizations of elements of best approximation in the Lp-norms, specific for each value of p. This work extends the above results to approximation in a wider class of norms, called “sign-monotone,” [6], which can be defined by the property: ¦ f(x)¦ ¦ g(x)¦,f(x)g(x) 0, a x b, imply f g . For sign-monotone norms in general, there is neither uniqueness of an element of best approximation, nor theorems characterizing it. Nevertheless, it is possible to derive many common properties of best approximants to generalized convex functions in these norms, by means of the necessary condition proved in [6]. For {u0, u1,…, un} an Extended-Complete Tchebycheff-system and f ε C(n)[a, b] it is shown that the validity of any of these properties on all subintervals of [a, b], implies that f is generalized convex. In the special case of f monotone with respect to a positive function u0(x), a converse theorem is proved under less restrictive assumptions.  相似文献

A well-known theorem of Frame, Robinson, and, Thrall states that if λ is a partition of n, then the number of Standard Young Tableaux of shape λ is n! divided by the product of the hook-lengths. We give a new combinatorial proof of this formula by exhibiting a bijection between the set of unsorted Young Tableaux of shape λ, and the set of pairs (T, S), where T is a Standard Young Tableau of shape λ and S is a “Pointer” Tableau of shape λ.  相似文献

The notion of vanishing-moment recovery (VMR) functions is introduced in this paper for the construction of compactly supported tight frames with two generators having the maximum order of vanishing moments as determined by the given refinable function, such as the mth order cardinal B-spline Nm. Tight frames are also extended to “sibling frames” to allow additional properties, such as symmetry (or antisymmetry), minimum support, “shift-invariance,” and inter-orthogonality. For Nm, it turns out that symmetry can be achieved for even m and antisymmetry for odd m, that minimum support and shift-invariance can be attained by considering the frame generators with two-scale symbols 2m(1−z)m and 2mz(1−z)m, and that inter-orthogonality is always achievable, but sometimes at the sacrifice of symmetry. The results in this paper are valid for all compactly supported refinable functions that are reasonably smooth, such as piecewise Lipα for some α>0, as long as the corresponding two-scale Laurent polynomial symbols vanish at z=−1. Furthermore, the methods developed here can be extended to the more general setting, such as arbitrary integer scaling factors, multi-wavelets, and certainly biframes (i.e., allowing the dual frames to be associated with a different refinable function).  相似文献
