Excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) in the 2,4,5-triarylimidazole molecules was studied by spectral-luminescent technique. For 4,5-diphenyl-(2-hydroxyphenyl)imidazoles, the ESIPT occurs in both liquid and glassy matrices at 77 K. For 4,5-diphenyl-(2-hydroxynaphthyl)imidazole, the ESIPT requires rotation of molecular fragments and is not observed at 77 K.  相似文献

Nonradiative decay pathways associated with vibronically coupled S1(ππ*)–S2(*) potential energy surfaces of 3- and 5-hydroxychromones are investigated by employing the linear vibronic coupling approach. The presence of a conical intersection close to the Franck–Condon point is identified based on the critical examination of computed energetics and structural parameters of stationary points. We show that very minimal displacements of relevant atoms of intramolecular proton transfer geometry are adequate to drive the molecule toward the conical intersection nuclear configuration. The evolving wavepacket on S1(ππ*) bifurcates at the conical intersection: a part of the wavepacket moves to S2(*) within a few femtoseconds while the other decays to S1 minimum. Our findings indicate the possibility of forming the proton transfer tautomer product via S2(*), competing with the traditional pathway occurring on S1(ππ*).  相似文献

Herein, the efficient interaction of an environment-sensitive fluorophore that undergoes excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) with DNA has been realized by conjugation of a 3-hydroxychromone (3HC) with polycationic spermine. On binding to a double-stranded DNA (dsDNA), the ratio of the two emission bands of the 3HC conjugates changes up to 16-fold, so that emission of the ESIPT product increases dramatically. This suggests an efficient screening of the 3HC fluorophore from the water molecules in the DNA complex, which is probably realized by its intercalation into dsDNA. In sharp contrast, the 3HC conjugates show only moderate changes in the dual emission on binding to a single-stranded DNA (ssDNA), indicating a much higher fluorophore exposure to water at the binding site. Thus, the 3-hydroxychromone fluorophore being conjugated to spermine discriminates the binding of this polycation to dsDNA from that to ssDNA. Consequently, ESIPT-based dyes are promising for monitoring the interaction of polycationic molecules with DNA and probing the microenvironment of their DNA binding sites.  相似文献

The excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) reaction in five-membered N-H...N hydrogen-bonding systems has been explored through design and syntheses of a series of 5-(2-pyridyl) 1-H-pyrazoles 1a-d. The ESIPT mechanism was confirmed through spectroscopy, relaxation dynamics, and corresponding methylated analogues. The results demonstrate for the first time a unique system among ESIPT molecules, in which ESIPT incorporates an appreciably large energy barrier fine-tuned by the skeletal reorganization. This makes 1a-d systems ideal models for probing the reaction potential energy surface.  相似文献

An excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) from the phenol OH to the 7'-carbon on the naphthyl ring in o-(1-naphthyl)phenol (3) and 1-(1'-naphthyl)-2-naphthol (4) leads to efficient (Phi = 0.1-0.2) formation of the corresponding dihydrobenzoxanthenes (5 and 7) via quinone methide intermediates. This new reaction represents a clean, efficient, and high-yielding route to benzoxanthenes and dihydrobenzoxanthenes. A related ESIPT of similar efficiency has been detected at the 2'-aromatic position in these systems, by deuterium labeling studies.  相似文献

o-Hydroxy analogues, 1a-g, of the green fluorescent protein chromophore have been synthesized. Their structures and electronic properties were investigated by X-ray single-crystal analyses, electrochemistry, and luminescence properties. In solid and nonpolar solvents 1a-g exist mainly as Z conformers that possess a seven-membered-ring hydrogen bond and undergo excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) reactions, resulting in a proton-transfer tautomer emission. Fluorescence upconversion dynamics have revealed a coherent type of ESIPT, followed by a fast vibrational/solvent relaxation (<1 ps) to a twisted (regarding exo-C(5)-C(4)-C(3) bonds) conformation, from which a fast population decay of a few to several tens of picoseconds was resolved in cyclohexane. Accordingly, the proton-transfer tautomer emission intensity is moderate (0.08 in 1e) to weak (~10(-4) in 1a) in cyclohexane. The stronger intramolecular hydrogen bonding in 1g suppresses the rotation of the aryl-alkene bond, resulting in a high yield of tautomer emission (Φ(f) ≈ 0.2). In the solid state, due to the inhibition of exo-C(5)-C(4)-C(3) rotation, intense tautomer emission with a quantum yield of 0.1-0.9 was obtained for 1a-g. Depending on the electronic donor or acceptor strength of the substituent in either the HOMO or LUMO site, a broad tuning range of the emission from 560 (1g) to 670 nm (1a) has been achieved.  相似文献

Rate constants for the excited-state proton transfer reaction of carbazole in aqueous alkaline solution have been determined using picosecond single photon counting. Fluorescence decay measurements show that the back reaction is slow compared to the fluorescence decay time and therefore equilibrium is not attained in the excited state. The validity of a pK value for the lowest excited state determined from steady-state fluorescence measurements assuming equilibrium is discussed. It is concluded that the thermodynamic pK* value for carbazole is 10.98.  相似文献

A new fluorochromic dye was obtained from the reaction of 9-aminoacridine with ethyl-2-cyano-3-ethoxyacrylate. It displays complex fluorescence that is ascribed to normal emission from the acridine chromophore in addition to excited-state intramolecular charge transfer (ESICT) formed upon light excitation. The analysis of the fluorescence decays in different solvents reveals two short-lived components in the range of 80-450 ps and 0.7-3.2 ns, ascribed to the formation and decay of the intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) state, in addition to a third component of about 9.0 ns, which is related to the normal emission from the acridine singlet excited state, probably in an enol-imine tautomeric form. The ICT emission is readily quenched by water addition to polar solvents, and this effect is ascribed to changes in the keto-amine/enol-imine equilibrium of this fluorochromic dye.  相似文献

Time-resolved and steady-state emission characterization of 10-hydroxycamptothecin reveals a rich but less complex proton-transfer behavior than its parent hydroxyquinoline. The electronic effect of the additional electron-withdrawing ring makes the excited-state both less basic and more acidic than the parent and adds to the class of high-acidity excited-state proton donors in photochemistry and photobiology.  相似文献

A single exponential risetime is observed for the lautomer fluorescence of 3-hydroxyflavone in the absence of hydrogen-bonding impurities in the temperature range of 298—77 K. The observed risetime in hydrocarbon solvents is less than 8 ps at 298 K, while at 77 K it is 37 ± 6 ps. The discrepancy with other reports is attributed to hydrogen-bonding solvent impurities which inhibit the intramolecular proton transfer process.  相似文献

Fluorescence properties of phthalimide derivatives (1) incorporating sulfonamide and acetamide functionalities at the 3-position were investigated both in solution and in the solid states to reveal the effects of the amide functionalities on the fluorescence properties. In the solid state, sulfonamides 1a and 1b, respectively, gave off red (λFmax 595?nm) and green (λFmax 537?nm) emission through an ESIPT process. Acetamides 1c and 1d, respectively displayed blue (λFmax 432?nm) and yellow (λFmax 560?nm) emission. Through simply modifying the amide functionality, phthalimide 1 displayed multicolor RGBY emission in the solid state.  相似文献

1-azacarbazole hydrogen-bonded dimers undergo photoinduced double proton transfer reaction in their lowest excited singlet state. A second emission band with a maximum at 510 nm arises from a tautomer formed in the excited singlet state as a result of the double proton transfer process.  相似文献

Excited-state proton transfer (ESPT) of pyranine (8-hydroxypyrene-1,3,6-trisulphonate, HPTS) to acetate in methanol has been studied by steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy. The rate constant of direct proton transfer from pyranine to acetate (k 1) is calculated to be ∼1 × 109 M−1 s−1. This is slower by about two orders of magnitude than that in bulk water (8 × 1010 M−1 s−1) at 4 M acetate.  相似文献

The excited-state proton-transfer dynamics of 7-azaindole occurring in the water nanopools of reverse micelles has been investigated by measuring time-resolved fluorescence spectra and kinetics, as well as static absorption and emission spectra, with varying water content and isotope. 7-Azaindole molecules are found to exist in the bound-water regions of reverse micelles. The rate constant and the kinetic isotope effect of proton transfer are smaller than those in bulk water although both increase with the size of the water nanopool. The retardation of proton transfer in the bound regions is attributed to the increased free energy of prerequisite solvation to form a cyclically H-bonded 1:1 7-azaindole/water complex.  相似文献

Steady-state and time-resolved emission techniques were employed to study the photoprotolytic cycle of an excited photoacid in ice in the presence of a low concentration of a weak base-like F(-). In previous studies we found that the photoprotolytic cycle in methanol-doped ice (1% mol fraction) is too slow to be observed at temperatures below 190 K. In this study we found that at temperatures below 240 K an additional proton-transfer process occurs in ice doped with 10 mM KF. We attributed this reaction to the creation of a mobile L-defect by F(-) ions. We used a diffusion-assisted reaction model, based on the Debye-Smoluchowski equation, to account for the direct reaction of the L-defect with the excited photoacid at temperatures below T < 240 K. Below 160 K the spectroscopic properties as well as the photoprotolytic cycle change dramatically. We propose that below 160 K the sample enters a new phase. The excited-state proton-transfer (ESPT) process was observed and followed down to a liquid nitrogen temperature of approximately 78 K. In the low-temperature phase the ESPT rate is almost twice as much as at 180 K and the temperature dependence of the rate is very small. The kinetic isotope effect of the ESPT at the low-temperature phase is small of about 1.3.  相似文献

Internal Stark effect (or internal electrochromy) consists of the shift of light absorption and emission bands under the influence of electric field produced by proximal charges. In the studies of 3-hydroxyflavone (3HF) derivatives exhibiting the excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT), we describe a new phenomenon - a very strong internal electrochromic modulation of this reaction. Fluorescence spectra of 3HF derivatives with charged groups attached to the chromophore from the opposite sides without pi-electronic conjugation, N-[(4'-diethylamino)-3-hydroxy-6-flavonyl]methyl-N,N-dimethyloctylammonium bromide and 4-[4-[4'-(3-hydroxyflavonyl)]piperazino]-1-(3-sulfopropyl)pyridinium, were compared with those of their neutral analogues in a series of representative solvents. The introduction of the proximal charge results in shifts of absorption spectrum and of both normal (N) and tautomer (T) emission bands, which correspond to initial and phototautomer states of the ESIPT reaction. The observed shifts are in accordance with the Stark effect theory. The direction of the shift depends on the position of the proximal charge with respect to the chromophore. The magnitude of the shift depends strongly on the solvent dielectric constant and on screening or unscreening produced by addition of the hydrophobic salts. In all of these cases, the spectral shifts are accompanied by extremely strong variations of relative intensities of N and T emission bands. This signifies a strong influence of internal electric field on the ESIPT reaction, which produces a dramatic change of emission color. Thus, the coupling of the initial electrochromic sensory signal with the ESIPT reaction allows for the breaking of the limit in magnitude of response inherent to common electrochromic dyes. This suggests a new principle of designing the ultrasensitive electrochromic two-wavelength fluorescence sensors and probes for analytical chemistry, macromolecular science, and cellular biology.  相似文献

The azoles 2-(2′-hydroxyphenyl)oxazole (HPO) and 2-(2′-hydroxyphenyl)-4-methylthiazole (HPT) have been synthesised and studied in order to compare their photophysical characteristics. Their absorption and emission properties are reported in non-polar, alcoholic and aqueous media. Ground and excited state pK data were determined by spectroscopy and a model is proposed to explain the behaviour of HPT and HPO as a function of the pH. Excitation spectra and quantum chemical calculations suggest an equilibrium of ground state conformers. The calculations also predict a small energy barrier for rotation in the first excited singlet state for the proton transferred tautomers. The resulting twisted structure of the tautomer form possesses a biradicaloid nature, and is near-degenerate in energy with the first excited triplet state.  相似文献

The influence of solvent, temperature, and viscosity on the phototautomerization processes of a series of o-hydroxyarylbenzazoles was studied by means of ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) absorption spectroscopy and steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy. The compounds studied were 2-(2'-hydroxyphenyl)benzimidazole (HBI), 2-(2'-hydroxyphenyl)benzoxazole (HBO), 2-(2'-hydroxyphenyl)benzothiazole (HBT), 2-(3'-hydroxy-2'-pyridyl)benzimidazole (HPyBI), and the new derivative 2-(3'-hydroxy-2'-pyridyl)benzoxazole (HPyBO), this one studied in neutral and acid media. All of these compounds undergo an excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) from the hydroxyl group to the benzazole N3 to yield an excited tautomer in syn conformation. A temperature- and viscosity-dependent radiationless deactivation of the tautomer has been detected for all compounds except HBI and HPyBI. We show that this radiationless decay also takes place for 2-(3-methyl-1,3-benzothiazol-3-ium-2-yl)benzenolate (NMeOBT), the N-methylated analog of the tautomer, whose ground-state structure has anti conformation. In ethanol, the radiationless decay shows intrinsic activation energy for HPyBO and HBO; however, it is barrierless for HBT and NMeOBT and controlled instead by the solvent dynamics. The relative efficiency of the radiationless decay in the series of molecules studied supports the hypothesis that this transition is connected with a charge-transfer process taking place in the tautomer, its efficiency being related to the strength of the electron donor (dissociated phenol or pyridinol moiety) and electron acceptor (protonated benzazole). We propose that the charge transfer is associated with a large-amplitude conformational change of the tautomer, the process leading to a nonfluorescent charge-transfer intermediate. The previous ESIPT step generates the structure with the suitable redox pair to undergo the charge-transfer process; therefore, an excited-state intramolecular coupled proton and charge transfer takes place for these compounds.  相似文献

Excited-state proton transfer from the "super" photoacid 5,8-dicyano-2-naphthol to 2-butanol is faster in the enantiopure solvent than in its racemic form. The difference observed is discussed in terms of long-range order in homo- and heterodimers of 2-butanol.  相似文献
