para-Nitroaniline (PNA) plays an essential role as the prototype model of push-pull chromophores. The nature and degree of participation of vibrational degrees of freedom in the charge-transfer and internal-conversion processes are current issues of great theoretical and practical importance. Ultrafast time-resolved anti-Stokes resonance Raman spectroscopy (TRARRS) experiments on PNA in dimethyl sulfoxide with three different excitation wavelengths were performed to probe these dynamical influences. The vibrational dynamics associated with S0 were independent of incident wavelength, and this supports the picture that the S1 dynamics are fast relative to the rate of intersystem crossing. The phenyl breathing mode nu(19) (860 cm(-1)) and the symmetric NO2 stretch nu(29) (1310 cm(-1)) exhibited vibrational lifetimes in S0 of 8.1 and 5.2 ps, respectively. No evidence for inhomogeneous broadening of the charge-transfer band in the UV/Vis absorption spectrum was found.  相似文献

Ethynylated 2H-cyclohepta[b]furan-2-ones 5-15 have been prepared by Pd-catalyzed alkynylation of 3-iodo-5-isopropyl-2H-cyclohepta[b]furan-2-one (2) with the corresponding ethynylarenes or the reaction of 2-iodothiophene with 3-ethynyl-5-isopropyl-2H-cyclohepta[b]furan-2-one (4) under Sonogashira-Hagihara conditions. Compounds 5-15 reacted with tetracyanoethylene in a formal [2+2] cycloaddition reaction, followed by ring opening of the initially formed [2+2] cycloadducts, cyclobutenes, to afford the corresponding 1,1,4,4-tetracyanobutadienyl (TCBD) chromophores 16-26 in excellent yields. The intramolecular charge-transfer interactions between the 2H-cyclohepta[b]furan-2-one ring and TCBD acceptor moiety were investigated by UV/Vis spectroscopy and theoretical calculations. The redox behavior of the novel TCBD derivatives 16-26 was examined by cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry, which revealed multistep electrochemical reduction properties, depending on the number of TCBD units in the molecule. Moreover, a significant color change was observed by UV/Vis spectroscopy under electrochemical reduction conditions.  相似文献

A series of donor-acceptor chromophores was prepared in which the spacer separating 4-dimethylanilino (DMA) donor and C(CN)(2) acceptor moieties is systematically varied. All of the new push-pull systems, except 4 b, are thermally stable molecules. In series a, the DMA rings are directly attached to the central spacer, whereas in series b additional acetylene moieties are inserted. X-ray crystal structures were obtained for seven of the new, intensely colored target compounds. In series a, the DMA rings are sterically forced out of the mean plane of the residual pi system, whereas the entire conjugated pi system in series b is nearly planar. Support for strong donor-acceptor interactions was obtained through evaluation of the quinoid character of the DMA ring and by NMR and IR spectroscopy. The UV/Vis spectra feature bathochromically shifted, intense charge-transfer bands, with the lowest energy transitions and the smallest optical gap being measured for the two-dimensionally extended chromophores 6 a and 6 b. The redox behavior of the push-pull molecules was investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). In the series 1 b, 2 b, 4 b, 5 b, in which the spacer between donor and acceptor moieties is systematically enlarged, the electrochemical gap decreases steadily from 1.94 V (1 b) to 1.53 V (5 b). This decrease is shown to be a consequence of a reduction in the D-A conjugation with increasing spacer length. Degenerate four-wave mixing experiments reveal high third-order optical nonlinearities, pointing to potentially interesting applications of some of the new chromophores in optoelectronic devices.  相似文献

Slip sliding away: Foldamers can function as modular stoppers to regulate the slippage and de-slippage of pseudorotaxanes and the switching kinetics and metastability of bistable rotaxanes. By simply changing the solvent or the length of the hydrogen-bonded foldamer, the lifetime of the metastable co-conformation state can be increased dramatically, from several minutes to as long as several days.  相似文献

A wide variety of monomeric and oligomeric, donor-substituted 1,1,4,4-tetracyanobutadienes (TCBDs) have been synthesized by [2+2] cycloaddition between tetracyanoethylene (TNCE) and donor-substituted alkynes, followed by electrocyclic ring opening of the initially formed cyclobutenes. Reaction yields are often nearly quantitative but can be affected by the electron-donating power and steric demands of the alkyne substituents. The intramolecular charge-transfer (CT) interactions between the donor and TCBD acceptor moieties were comprehensively investigated by X-ray crystallography, electrochemistry, UV-visible spectroscopy, and theoretical calculations. Despite the nonplanarity of the new chromophores, which have a substantial twist between the two dicyanovinyl planes, efficient intramolecular CT interactions are observed, and the crystal structures demonstrate a high quinoid character in strong donor substituents, such as N,N-dimethylanilino (DMA) rings. The maxima of the CT bands shift bathochromically upon reduction of the amount of conjugative coupling between strong donor and acceptor moieties. Each TCBD moiety undergoes two reversible, one-electron reduction steps. Thus, a tri-TCBD derivative with a 1,3,5-trisubstituted benzene core shows six reversible reduction steps within an exceptionally narrow potential range of 1.0 V. The first reduction potential E(red,1) is strongly influenced by the donor substitution: introduction of more donor moieties causes an increasingly twisted TCBD structure, a fact that results in the elevation of the LUMO level and, consequently, a more difficult first reduction. The potentials are also strongly influenced by the nature of the donor residues and the extent of donor-acceptor coupling. A careful comparison of electrochemical data and the correlation with UV-visible spectra made it possible to estimate unknown physical parameters such as the E(red,1) of unsubstituted TCBD (-0.31 V vs Fc+/Fc) as well as the maxima of highly broadened CT bands. Donor-substituted TCBDs are stable molecules and can be sublimed without decomposition. With their high third-order optical nonlinearities, as revealed in preliminary measurements, they should become interesting chromophores for ultra-thin film formation by vapor deposition techniques and have applications in opto-electronic devices.  相似文献

The synthesis of 2,3-R(2)-9,10-(OMe)(2)-substituted pentacenes (R=OMe, F, Br, CN; 1-4) from 2,3-R(2)-9,10-dimethoxy-6,13-dihydro-6,13-ethanopentacene-15,16-diones (α-diketone-bridged precursors) by photochemically induced bis-decarbonylation (Strating-Zwanenburg reaction) is described. Under matrix-isolation conditions (solid Ar, 10 K) the S(1) transitions of 1 and 2 undergo hypsochromic and those of 3 and 4 bathochromic shifts compared to parent pentacene. The S(1) transition wavelengths correlate well with the difference of substituent parameters σ(p). A computational analysis of the excited states at the CAM-B3LYP/6-311+G** level of theory provides an assignment of the electronic transitions. Photolysis in solution at room temperature yields red [R=OMe (1)], blue [R=Br (3), F (2)], and green [R=CN (4)] pentacenes. The compounds are oxygen-sensitive and have low solubility, but their formation can be monitored by UV/Vis and, in the case of R=CN, also by (1)H NMR spectroscopy. The S(1) transition in 4 does not show the typical pentacene fine structure in the electronic absorption spectrum. Photogeneration in the presence of oxygen leads to a number of photoproducts that could be identified by monitoring the reaction by (1)H NMR spectroscopy for R=OMe.  相似文献

Attaching electron-rich 1,3-dithiol-2-ylidene moieties to polynitrofluorene electron acceptors leads to the formation of highly conjugated compounds 6 to 11, which combine high electron affinity with a pronounced intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) that is manifested as an intense absorption band in their visible spectra. Such a rare combination of optical and electronic properties is beneficial for several applications in optoelectronics. Thus, incorporation of fluorene-dithiole derivative 6a into photoconductive films affords photothermoplastic storage media with dramatically increased photosensitivity in the ICT region. A wide structural variation of the dithiole and fluorene parts of the molecules reveals excellent correlation between the ICT energy and the reduction potential with the Hammett's parameters for the substituents. Although only a small solvatochromism of the ICT band was observed, heating the solution led to a pronounced blueshift, which was probably as a result of increased twisting around the C9=C14 bond that links the fluorene and dithiole moieties. X-ray crystallographic analysis of 7a, 8a, 10a, 11a and 13a confirms an ICT interaction in the ground state of the molecules. The C9=C14 double bond between the donor and acceptor is substantially elongated and its length increases as the donor character of the dithiole moiety is enhanced.  相似文献

The supramolecular structure of two types of oligo(p-phenylene vinylene) (OPV) building blocks in dodecane solution is studied. Monofunctional chromophores (MOPV) form well-defined helical assemblies, whereas bifunctional molecules (BOPV) aggregate into so-called frustrated stacks, lacking any higher helical order. This difference in organization has a major influence on the transfer of excitation energy through the assemblies. Energy transfer to supramolecularly incorporated guests (MOPV with lower bandgap) is used to probe the intrinsic differences in exciton mobility in these two types of mixed aggregates. From the observed donor fluorescence quenching, it can be concluded that the helically ordered nature of the MOPV stacks facilitates the transfer of excitation energy, yielding evidence for higher exciton mobility in the well-ordered assemblies than in the frustrated stacks. Finally, the concept of energy transfer in supramolecular assemblies is extended to the solid state by the successful implementation in a light-emitting diode (LED).  相似文献

A combined experimental (optical and electro-optical absorption measurements) and computational (ab initio RHF and DFT) approach has been used to investigate the molecular low- and high-T(g) photorefractive (PR) performances of neutral and zwitterionic heteroaromatic dipolar chromophores in terms of structural and solvent-polarity effects. We have found that the nature of the building units (donor, acceptor, and spacer) and the polarity of the surrounding medium strongly affect all the relevant ground-state and nonlinear optical properties involved in the PR activity, that is, the dipole moment, the polarizability anisotropy, and first hyperpolarizability of the electronic ground-state. The variation of these properties is in turn transferred to molecular low- and high-T(g) PR figures of merit. It is shown that PR molecular performance not only relies on a proper choice of structural components but varies by orders of magnitude as a function of the medium polarity, and this suggests that a combination of molecular design and host-matrix engineering is required for optimized performances of PR materials.  相似文献
