The polar decomposition, a well-known algorithm for decomposing real matrices as the product of a positive semidefinite matrix and an orthogonal matrix, is intimately related to involutive automorphisms of Lie groups and the subspace decomposition they induce. Such generalized polar decompositions, depending on the choice of the involutive automorphism σ , always exist near the identity although frequently they can be extended to larger portions of the underlying group. In this paper, first of all we provide an alternative proof to the local existence and uniqueness result of the generalized polar decomposition. What is new in our approach is that we derive differential equations obeyed by the two factors and solve them analytically, thereby providing explicit Lie-algebra recurrence relations for the coefficients of the series expansion. Second, we discuss additional properties of the two factors. In particular, when σ is a Cartan involution, we prove that the subgroup factor obeys similar optimality properties to the orthogonal polar factor in the classical matrix setting both locally and globally, under suitable assumptions on the Lie group G . We study generalized polar decompositions of densely defined closed linear operators in Hilbert spaces and provide some applications to relatively (form) bounded and relatively (form) compact perturbations of self-adjoint, normal, and m-sectorial operators. It is proved that invertible operators on a Krein space which have an invariant maximal uniformly positive subspace and map its orthogonal complement into a nonnegative subspace allow polar decompositions with additional spectral properties. As a corollary, several classes of Krein space operators are shown to allow polar decompositions. An example in a finite dimensional Krein space shows that there exist dissipative operators that do not allow polar decompositions.  相似文献

We introduce a concept bounded reflexivity for a subspace of operators on a normed space. We explore the properties of bounded reflexivity, study the similarities and differences between bounded reflexivity and the usual reflexivity for a subspace of operators. As applications of bounded reflexivity, we give alternative proofs of some well known results about positivity and complete positivity of elementary operators.  相似文献

We consider the local boundary values of generalized harmonic functions associated with the rank-one Dunkl operator $D$ in the upper half-plane $R^{2}_+=R\times(0,\infty)$, where $$(Df)(x)=f'(x)+(\lambda/x)[f(x)-f(-x)]$$ for given $\lambda\ge0$. A $C^2$ function $u$ in $R^{2}_+$ is said to be $\lambda$-harmonic if $(D_x^2+\partial_{y}^2)u=0$. For a $\lambda$-harmonic function $u$ in $R^{2}_+$ and for a subset $E$ of $\partial R^{2}_+=R$ symmetric about $y$-axis, we prove that the following three assertions are equivalent: (i) $u$ has a finite non-tangential limit at $(x,0)$ for a.e. $x\in E$; (ii) $u$ is non-tangentially bounded for a.e. $x\in E$; (iii) $(Su)(x)<\infty$ for a.e. $x\in E$, where $S$ is a Lusin-type area integral associated with the Dunkl operator $D$.  相似文献

We investigate properties of subspaces of L2 spanned by subsets of a finite orthonormal system bounded in the L norm. We first prove that there exists an arbitrarily large subset of this orthonormal system on which the L1 and the L2 norms are close, up to a logarithmic factor. Considering for example the Walsh system, we deduce the existence of two orthogonal subspaces of L2n, complementary to each other and each of dimension roughly n/2, spanned by ± 1 vectors (i.e. Kashin’s splitting) and in logarithmic distance to the Euclidean space. The same method applies for p > 2, and, in connection with the Λp problem (solved by Bourgain), we study large subsets of this orthonormal system on which the L2 and the Lp norms are close (again, up to a logarithmic factor). Several classes of operators are shown to be boundedly reflexive; including bilateral operator-weighted shifts, weak contractions, and operators of class (SM). The commutants of many of these operators are shown to be boundedly reflexive. We also show that symmetric pattern subspaces with constant main diagonals are boundedly reflexive, and we provide some necessary and sufficient conditions for to be boundedly reflexive.  相似文献

We study the mappings taking real intervals into metric spaces and possessing a bounded generalized variation in the sense of Jordan--Riesz--Orlicz. We establish some embeddings of function spaces, the structure of the mappings, the jumps of the variation, and the Helly selection principle. We show that a compact-valued multi-valued mapping of bounded generalized variation with respect to the Hausdorff metric has a regular selection of bounded generalized variation. We prove the existence of selections preserving the properties of multi-valued mappings that are defined on the direct product of an interval and a topological space, have a bounded generalized variation in the first variable, and are upper semicontinuous in the second variable.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the generalized singular value decompositions for two tensors via the T-product. We investigate and discuss in detail the structures of the quotient singular value decomposition (T-QSVD) and product singular value decomposition (T-PSVD) for two tensors. The algorithms are presented with numerical examples illustrating the results. For applications, we consider color image watermarking processing with T-QSVD and T-PSVD. There are two advantages to T-QSVD and T-PSVD approaches on color watermark processing: two color watermarks can be processed simultaneously and only one key needs to be saved.  相似文献
