SiO2–PbO–Bi2O3 glasses having the composition of 35SiO2xPbO–(65 ? x)Bi2O3 (where x = 5, 20 and 45; in mol%) have been prepared using the conventional melting and annealing method. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) was employed to characterize the thermal behavior of the prepared glasses in order to determine their crystallization temperatures (Tcr). It has been found that Tcr decreases with the decrease of Bi2O3 content. The amorphous nature of the prepared glasses as well as the crystallinity of the produced glass–ceramics were confirmed by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) analysis. SiPbBi2O6 glass nano-composites, comprising bismuth oxides nano-crystallites, were obtained by controlled heat-treatment of the glasses at their (Tcr) for 10 h. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) of the glass nano-crystal composites demonstrates the presence of cubic Bi2O3 nano-crystallites in the SiPbBi2O6 glass matrix. Nano-crystallites mean size has been determined from XRD line width analysis using Scherrer's equation as well as from TEM; and the sizes obtained from both analyses are in good agreement. These sizes varied from about 15 to 170 nm depending on the chemical compositions of parent glasses and, consequently, their structure. Interestingly, replacement of the Bi2O3 by PbO in the glass compositions has pronounced effect on the nature, morphology and size of the formed nano-crystallites. Decrease of the Bi2O3 content increases the size of the nano-crystallites, and at the lowest Bi2O3 extreme, namely 20 mol%, introduces minority of the monoclinic Bi2O4 in addition to the cubic Bi2O3. The crystallization mechanism is suggested to involve a diffusion controlled growth of the bismuth oxide nano-crystallites in the SiPbBi2O6 glass matrix with the zero nucleation rate.  相似文献

Glass samples from four systems: xPbO–(100?x)B2O3 (x = 30, 40, 50 and 60 mol%), 50PbO–yAl2O3–(50?y)B2O3 (y = 2, 4, 6, 8 mol%), 50PbO–ySiO2–(50?y)B2O3 (y = 5, 10, 20, 30 mol%) and 50PbO–5SiO2yAl2O3–(45?y)B2O3 (y = 2, 4, 6, 8 mol%) were prepared by a melt-quench technique. Characterization of these systems was carried out using density measurements, UV–visible spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and 11B and 27Al magic-angle spinning (MAS) solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). Our studies reveal an increase in glass density with increasing lead(II) oxide concentration in pure lead borates and also with addition of silica into 50PbO–50B2O3 glass. 11B MAS NMR measurements determine that the fraction of tetrahedral borons (N4) reaches a maximum for the glass containing 50 mol% of PbO in the PbO–B2O3 glass series and that N4 is sharply reduced upon adding small amounts of Al2O3 into lead borate and lead borosilicate systems. 27Al MAS NMR experiments performed on glasses doped with aluminum oxide show that the Al3+ are tetra-, penta- and hexa-coordinated with oxygen, even without any excess concentration of Al3+ over charge-balancing Pb2+ cations. [5]Al and [6]Al concentrations are found to have unusually high values of up to 30%. The results of UV–visible absorption spectroscopy, DSC and density measurements support the conclusions drawn from the NMR studies, providing a consistent picture of structure–property relations in these glass systems.  相似文献

TeO2–WO3 (TW), TeO2–WO3–La2O3 (TWL), TeO2–WO3–La2O3–Bi2O3 (TWLB) and TeO2–ZnO–Na2O–Bi2O3 (TZNB) glasses were produced by high-purity oxide mixtures melting in platinum or gold crucible at 800 °C in the atmosphere of purified oxygen. The total content of Cu, Mn, Fe, Co and Ni impurities was not more than 0.1–0.5 ppm wt in the initial oxides and glasses. The stability of TZNB glasses to crystallization, characterized by (Tx ? Tg) value more than 150 °C, was demonstrated by DSC measurements at heating rate 10 K/min. In the case of La2O3-containing glasses the thermal effects of both crystallization and fusion of the crystallized phases were not observed. The hydroxyl groups absorption coefficients of pure tellurite glasses at the maximum of the absorption band (λ ~ 3 μm) were in the region of 0.012–0.001 cm?1. The optical absorption losses, measured by the laser calorimetry method at λ = 1.56 and 1.97 μm, did not exceed 100 dB/km.  相似文献

The glasses representing (Bi2O3)x(WO3)y(TeO2)100?x?y and (PbO)x(WO3)y(TeO2)100?x?y systems were prepared. The dilatometric glass-transition temperatures of examined glass samples were found in the region 383–434 °C, the coefficient of thermal expansion varied from 12 to 16 ppm/°C and the density ranged from 6.302 to 6.808 g/cm3. From the optical transmission measurements of thin glassy bulk samples prepared by a glass blowing, the optical gap values were found in the narrow region 3.21–3.36 eV. For the temperature interval 300–480 K, the values of the temperature coefficient of the optical band gap varied from 3.7 × 10?4 to 5.24 × 10?4 eV/K. It is suggested that Raman feature observed at around 350 cm?1 can be assigned to an overlap of Raman bands attributed to WO6 corner shared octahedra and to the following three atomic linkages: Bi–O–Te, Pb–O–Te and W–O–Te.  相似文献

Different glass samples in the Li2O, PbO and B2O3 system have been prepared by melt quenching method. These glasses were classified in two groups such as 0.5 B2O3, (0.5 ? x) PbO, xLi2O and (0.5 + y) B2O3; (0.25 ? y)PbO; 0.25Li2O. The IR spectra almost show broad bands in the frequency range (800–1050) cm?1 and (1100–1500) cm?1, together with different weak bands over the range of investigation (2400–3000) cm?1. The deconvolution analyses of these IR spectra reveals presence of multi structure arrangements from BO4 and BO3 groups, such as penta, tri, and diborates grouping together with meta; ortho borates as well as PbOn groups. Partial replacement of PbO by Li2O causes decrease in microhardness, a change which is attributed to the decrease in the concentration of ortho borate groups as is it revealed from the bands area analysis. The IR analysis shows also that the total concentration of (meta + ortho) borates is nearly constant while their individual concentrations is proportional depending on the relative concentration of PbO and Li2O.  相似文献

A series of tellurite glasses containing Fe2O3 with the nominal composition x(Fe2O3)–(1−x)(TeO2), where x = 0.05, 0.10, 0.15, and 0.20, have been synthesized and investigated using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and magnetization techniques. The Te 3d core level spectra for all glass samples show symmetrical peaks at essentially the same binding energies as measured for TeO2 indicating that the chemical environment of the Te atoms in these glasses does not vary significantly with the addition of Fe2O3. Furthermore, the full-width at half-maximum (FWHM) of each peak does not vary with increasing Fe2O3 content which suggests that the Te ions exist in a single configuration, namely TeO4 trigonal bipyramid (tbp). The O 1s spectra are narrow and symmetric for all compositions such that oxygen atoms in the Te–O–Te, Fe–O–Fe and Te–O–Fe configurations must have similar binding energies. The analysis of the Fe 3p spectra indicates the presence of Fe3+ ions only, which is consistent with the valence state of the Fe ions determined from magnetic susceptibility measurements.  相似文献

The aim of the present paper is to give structural information in order to set a correlation between the electrical conductivity behavior and structures of lithium and silver vanadium–tellurite based glasses. We report our structural studies and compare the effect of the nature of the metallic cation on glasses of the form XM2O · (1  X)V2O5 · 2TeO2 (where 0  X < 1 and M = Li or Ag). Fourier transform infra-red (FTIR) spectra were recorded for all compositions and complementary differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurements and X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements were also carried out. This paper should be considered as complementary to a previous article reporting the conductive behavior of theses glasses. In the latter we reported the obtained results on electrical conductivity studies. The results confirm the existence of a transition from a typically electronic (polaronic) conductive regimen when the molar fraction (X) of M2O is equal to 0, to an ionic conductive regimen when X tends to 1. The evidence for the independent migration path for both electrons and ions was put into evidence by studying the electrical conductivity behavior in a complementary system of the form X M2O · (1  X)[0.5V2O5–0.5MoO3] · 2TeO2. In this system vanadium was partially replaced by molybdenum which acts as a ‘diluting’ agent of the active centers involved in the electronic transport.  相似文献

Lead-free glasses in the SiO2–B2O3–Bi2O3–ZnO quaternary system were studied. The glass formation region, as determined by XRD patterns of bulk samples, was limited to glasses having more than 40 mol% of the glass-forming oxides SiO2 and B2O3. Crystalline phases of Zn2SiO4 (willemite) were detected in compositions of 30SiO2 · 10B2O3 · 20Bi2O3 · 40ZnO and 20SiO2 · 10B2O3 · 25Bi2O3 · 45ZnO. Glass transition temperatures (Tg), dilatometric softening points (Td) and linear coefficients of expansion in the temperatures range of 25–300 °C (α25–300) were measured for subsystems along the B2O3 join of 10, 20 and 30 mol%. For these subsystems, Tg ranged from 411 to 522 °C, and Td ranged from 453 to 563 °C, both decreasing with increasing Bi2O3 content. The measured α25–300 ranged from 53 to 95 × 10−7 °C−1, with values increasing with increasing Bi2O3 content. The ZnO content had the opposite effect to the Bi2O3 content. It appears that Bi3+ acts as a glass-modifier in this quaternary system.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to present a study of the thermal lens technique in quantifying the thermo optical coefficients: ds/dT (optical path change with temperature), thermal diffusivity and conductivity of PbO–Bi2O3–Ga2O3–BaO glasses doped with Yb3+. The thermal lens results indicate that the heat generation, as a function of the incident wavelength, resembles the absorption band 2F7/2  2F5/2 of Yb3+. Thermal diffusivity of 2 × 10−3 cm2/s and thermal conductivity of 4.5 × 10−3 W/K cm were obtained and are similar to other glasses already reported in previous literature. The results emphasize that the thermal lens technique can be a powerful tool to study the heat generation of new glassy systems.  相似文献

The electrical, thermal, optical, and morphological properties of CUO doped Bi2O3–B2O3–BaO–ZnO glasses were studied as a PbO-free, low firing transparent dielectric layer for plasma display panels (PDP). CuO improved the transmittance of Bi2O3–B2O3–BaO–ZnO by up to 84% in the visible region, eliminating a yellowish color typical of Bi2O3–B2O3–BaO–ZnO. A slight absorption within the near infrared (NIR) region was also observed. The glass transition temperature (Tg), thermal coefficient of expansion (TCE), and root-mean square (rms) roughness of 0.005 wt% CuO doped Bi2O3–B2O3–BaO–ZnO were found to be 455 °C, 81.4 × 10−7/K, respectively, and 162 ± 14 Å, which satisfied the requirements for a transparent dielectric layer for PDP application.  相似文献

The compositional invariance of the Raman spectra of (1 ? x)TeO2xMnOm glasses (M = Ti, Nb) is analyzed and interpreted as evidence for the conservatism of a framework-type constitution inherent to such glasses. This is assigned to the chemical similarity of cations in the X–O–Y bridges (X, Y = Te4+, Ti4+, Nb5+) considered as the framework building blocks. It is concluded that the atoms of metals having valence IV and V can be placed into the category of such cations, to which certain of the atoms with valence III can be added.  相似文献

The properties of novel ternary tellurite glasses, based on the TeO2–BaO–Bi2O3 system, are reported for their applications in on-line chemical sensing and process control by characterizing the fundamental frequencies of molecular vibrations in the 2–5 μm spectral region of mid-IR. The chemical sensing for process control also requires above room temperature operation (>100 °C) for prolonged periods of time. Bulk samples of ternary tellurite glasses with a number of different compositions were prepared using heavy molecular weight oxides of TeO2, BaO, and Bi2O3. Infrared and Raman spectroscopic analysis was carried out together with differential thermal analysis to study the relationship between glass structure and thermal and viscosity properties. The temperature dependence of the viscosities of the glasses is also reported. The compositional dependence of Raman frequency shifts and the corresponding change in the coordination of Te–O structure is discussed. The results from the IR edge, reflection spectroscopic, and wavelength dependence of refractive index are also reported.  相似文献

Variations in glass transition temperature, onset of crystallization, thermal expansion coefficient, density and molar volume with B2O3 concentration were studied in a series of xB2O3–(100  x)Ba(PO3)2 glasses with 0–10 mol% B2O3. DTA analysis and isothermal treatments for powdered glass samples reveal that ⩾7.5 mol% B2O3 addition suppresses surface crystallization during softening process. Raman spectroscopy suggests that the properties are related to the glass structure consisting of PO4 Q2 units with diborate and PO4–BO4 groups.  相似文献

We present spectroscopic results of PbO–Bi2O3–Ga2O3–BaO glass doped with different concentration of Nd2O3. These glasses have high refractive index (∼2.4) and large spectral transmission window. Measurements of absorption, emission and fluorescence lifetime are presented. From the calculations of the Judd–Ofelt parameters the radiative lifetimes, branching ratios and quantum efficiency of 4F3/2 level are calculated. The highest emission intensity was measured for the sample doped with 0.5 wt% of Nd2O3 with emission cross-section of 2.6 × 10−20 cm2, at 1069 nm, fluorescence lifetime of 110 μs, quantum efficiency of 82% and effective linewidth of 34 nm. The results point out this glass system as good candidate to be used in the development of photonic devices operating in the near infrared spectral range.  相似文献

Luminescence properties and upconversion studies of germanate glasses in ternary GeO2–PbO–Bi2O3 and binary GeO2–Bi2O3 systems containing Er2O3 (0.1–1.0 wt%) are presented for the first time. The Judd-Ofelt parameters found for these glasses are: Ω2 = 4.50 × 10−20 cm2, Ω4 = 1.55 × 10−20 cm2 and Ω6 = 0.69 × 10−20 cm2 for binary glasses and Ω2 = 4.44 × 10−20 cm2, Ω4 = 1.82 × 10−20 cm2 and Ω6 = 0.39 × 10−20 cm2 for ternary glasses. The refractive index of these glasses is found to be ∼2. The transition 4I13/2  4I15/2 is peaked at ∼1.53 μm and shows a radiative lifetime around 5 ms. Both systems exhibit similar emission cross-section at 1.53 μm around 0.8 × 10−20 cm2. Upconverted green emission at ∼530 nm (2H11/2  4I15/2) and ∼550 nm (4S3/2  4I15/2) and red emission at ∼668 nm (4F9/2  4I15/2) are observed under 980 nm cw excitation. Our results suggest that these glasses are promising candidates for applications in photonics.  相似文献

Characterization of B2O3 and/or WO3 containing tellurite glasses was realized in the 0.80TeO2–(0.20 ? x)WO3 ? xB2O3 system (0  x  0.20 in molar ratio) by using differential scanning calorimetry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry techniques. Glasses were prepared with a conventional melt-quenching technique at 750 °C. To recognize the thermal behavior of the glasses, glass transition and crystallization temperatures, glass stability value, glass transition activation energy, fragility parameter were calculated from the thermal analyses. Density, molar volume, oxygen molar volume and oxygen packing density values were determined to investigate the physical properties of glasses. Fourier transform infrared spectra were interpreted in terms of the structural transformations on the glass network, according to the changing B2O3 and/or WO3 content. Crystallization behavior of the glasses was investigated by in situ X-ray diffraction measurements and microstructural characterization was realized by scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry analyses.  相似文献

Tellurite glasses from TeO2–Bi2O3–BaO pseudo-ternary system were prepared using a conventional melt-quenching method and its glass-forming region was determined. A series of glasses were selected and their third-order optical nonlinearities (TONL) were measured by employing the Z-scan method at a wavelength of 800 nm with femtosecond laser pulses. The results showed that glass former Te4+ ions exhibited positive influences on the TONL and glass modifiers Ba2+ ions behaved similarly; low concentrated Bi3+ ions as glass modifiers weakened the nonlinearities, but an excess amount of Bi3+ behaved oppositely. FTIR measurements demonstrated that chemical bonds especially Te–Oeq vibrated at a high energy level remarkably promoted the TONL susceptibility χ(3), and the glass sample with the highest Bi2O3 content exhibited the largest χ(3) value which was due to the presence of BiO3 polyhedra.  相似文献

In earlier studies on phosphate and tellurite glasses containing vanadium and iron oxides, non-linear variation of physical properties as functions of the ratios of the transition ions (V/V + Fe) were observed. The most striking effect was observed with electrical conductivity, where a 3 orders of magnitude reduction in conductivity was observed at a V/V + Fe ratio of ~ 0.4. The effect was termed Mixed Transition-ion Effect or MTE. In phosphate glasses, however, MTE was not observed when one of the transition ions was manganese. It was concluded that Mn does not contribute to conduction in these glasses. In the present study, we demonstrate a mixed transition ion effect in tellurite glasses containing MnO and Fe2O3 (xFe2O3(0.2 ? x) MnO0.8TeO2 with x varying from 0 to 0.2). A maximum in the property at an intermediate composition (x = 8.5 mol%), was observed in DC resistivity, activation energy, molar volume etc. Mossbauer and optical absorption (UV–VIS–NIR) measurements were performed on these glasses and the transport mechanism has been identified to be hopping of small polarons between Fe3 + (Mn3 +) and Fe2 + (Mn2 +) sites.  相似文献

The effect of Fe2O3 content on electrical conductivity and glass stability against crystallization in the system PbO–Fe2O3–P2O5 has been investigated using Raman, XRD, Mössbauer and impedance spectroscopy. Glasses of the molar composition (43.3  x)PbO–(13.7 + x)Fe2O3–43P2O5 (0  x  30), were prepared by quenching melts in the air. With increasing Fe2O3 content and molar O/P ratio there is corresponding reduction in the length of phosphate units and an increase in the Fe(II) ion concentration, which causes a higher tendency for crystallization. Raman spectra of the glasses show that the interaction between Fe sites, which is essential for electron hopping, strongly depends on the cross-linking of the glass network. The electronic conduction of these glasses depends not only on the Fe(II)/Fetot ratio, but also on easy pathways for electron hopping in a non-disrupted pyrophosphate network. The Raman spectra of crystallized glasses indicate a much lower degree of cross-linking since more non-bridging oxygen atoms are present in the network. Despite the significant increase in the Fe2O3 content and Fe(II) ion concentration, there is a considerable weakening in the interactions between Fe sites in crystalline glasses. The impedance spectra reveal a decrease in conductivity, caused by poorly defined conduction pathways, which are result of the disruption and inhomogeneity of the crystalline phases that are formed during melting.  相似文献

Glasses of the xGd2O3 · (100  x)[B2O3 · Bi2O3] system with 0.5  x  10 mol% were studied by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and magnetic susceptibility measurements. Data obtained show that for low gadolinium oxide contents of the samples (x  3 mol%) the Gd3+ ions are randomly distributed in the host glass matrix and are present as isolated and dipole–dipole coupled species. For higher gadolinium oxide contents of the samples (x > 3 mol%) the Gd3+ ions appear as both isolated and antiferromagnetically coupled species. The EPR spectra of the glasses reveal resonance sites with an unexpected high crystalline field in addition to the ‘U’ spectrum, typical for Gd3+ ions in disordered systems. This absorption line is due to Gd3+ ions that replace Bi3+ ions from the host glass matrix and could play the network unconventional former role in the studied glasses.  相似文献
