In the present paper, the isogeometric analysis (IGA) of free-form planar curved beams is formulated based on the nonlinear Timoshenko beam theory to investigate the large deformation of beams with variable curvature. Based on the isoparametric concept, the shape functions of the field variables (displacement and rotation) in a finite element analysis are considered to be the same as the non-uniform rational basis spline (NURBS) basis functions defining the geometry. The validity of the presented formulation is tested in five case studies covering a wide range of engineering curved structures including from straight and constant curvature to variable curvature beams. The nonlinear deformation results obtained by the presented method are compared to well-established benchmark examples and also compared to the results of linear and nonlinear finite element analyses. As the nonlinear load-deflection behavior of Timoshenko beams is the main topic of this article, the results strongly show the applicability of the IGA method to the large deformation analysis of free-form curved beams. Finally, it is interesting to notice that, until very recently, the large deformations analysis of free-form Timoshenko curved beams has not been considered in IGA by researchers. 相似文献

The free vibration of axially functionally graded (FG) tapered Timoshenko curved beams is studied with the numerical approach. By using the non-uniform rational B-spline (NURBS) basis functions, the exact geometry and the generalized displacement field are formulated. Variable geometric parameters and material properties, including the curvature, cross-sectional area, area moment of inertia, mass density, and Young’s modulus, are expanded as functions of the coordinate in a parametric domain. Based on Hamilton’s principle, the weak formulation is derived by applying a refined constitutive relation which considers the thickness effect. Natural frequencies and mode shapes are obtained from the eigenvalue equation. Circular, elliptic, and parabolic curved beams are considered in numerical examples. The obtained results are in good agreement with those in the existing studies and those calculated by the finite element software ANSYS. Moreover, the effects of the material gradient, taper ratio, slenderness ratio, and heightspan ratio on vibration behaviors are discussed. 相似文献

Free vibration analysis of a rotating double-tapered Timoshenko beam undergoing flapwise transverse vibration is presented.
Using an assumed mode method, the governing equations of motion are derived from the kinetic and potential energy expressions
which are derived from a set of hybrid deformation variables. These equations of motion are then transformed into dimensionless
forms using a set of dimensionless parameters, such as the hub radius ratio, the dimensionless angular speed ratio, the slenderness
ratio, and the height and width taper ratios, etc. The natural frequencies and mode shapes are then determined from these
dimensionless equations of motion. The effects of the dimensionless parameters on the natural frequencies and modal characteristics
of a rotating double-tapered Timoshenko beam are numerically studied through numerical examples. The tuned angular speed of
the rotating double-tapered Timoshenko beam is then investigated. 相似文献

In this paper, the governing equations for free vibration of a non-homogeneous rotating Timoshenko beam, having uniform cross-section, is studied using an inverse problem approach, for both cantilever and pinned-free boundary conditions. The bending displacement and the rotation due to bending are assumed to be simple polynomials which satisfy all four boundary conditions. It is found that for certain polynomial variations of the material mass density, elastic modulus and shear modulus, along the length of the beam, the assumed polynomials serve as simple closed form solutions to the coupled second order governing differential equations with variable coefficients. It is found that there are an infinite number of analytical polynomial functions possible for material mass density, shear modulus and elastic modulus distributions, which share the same frequency and mode shape for a particular mode. The derived results are intended to serve as benchmark solutions for testing approximate or numerical methods used for the vibration analysis of rotating non-homogeneous Timoshenko beams. 相似文献

Based on shear-deformable beam theory, free vibration of thin-walled composite Timoshenko beams with arbitrary layups under
a constant axial force is presented. This model accounts for all the structural coupling coming from material anisotropy.
Governing equations for flexural-torsional-shearing coupled vibrations are derived from Hamilton’s principle. The resulting
coupling is referred to as sixfold coupled vibrations. A displacement-based one-dimensional finite element model is developed
to solve the problem. Numerical results are obtained for thin-walled composite beams to investigate the effects of shear deformation,
axial force, fiber angle, modulus ratio on the natural frequencies, corresponding vibration mode shapes and load–frequency
interaction curves. 相似文献

Complex flexible structures often are composed of simpler objects like beams joined end-to-end. We consider the case of two identical Timoshenko beams, coupled together at a typical energy-dissipating joint. The Wave Propagation Method of Keller and Rubinow is employed to compute the vibration spectrum of the system. It is found that the spectrum consists of a typical double-branched Timoshenko spectrum. In addition, however, for most combinations of energy-conserving end conditions, at least one of these branches decomposes into two sub-branches, one which is damped and one, undamped.

Based on convolution-type constitutive equations for linear viscoelastic materials with damage and the hypotheses of Timoshenko beams, the equations governing quasi-static and dynamical behavior of Timoshenko beams with damage were first derived. The quasi-static behavior of the viscoelastic Timoshenko beam under step loading was analyzed and the analytical solution was obtained in the Laplace transformation domain. The deflection and damage curves at different time were obtained by using the numerical inverse transform and the influences of material parameters on the quasi-static behavior of the beam were investigated in detail. 相似文献

Curved beam structures have been used in many civil, mechanical, aircraft, and aerospace constructions. The analysis is mainly based on solid and plate models due to the fact that traditional curved beam elements do not include nonuniform warping effects, especially in the dynamic analysis. In this article, independent warping parameters have been taken into account and the initial curvature effect is considered. Curved beam’s behavior becomes more complex, even for dead loading, due to the coupling between axial force, bending moments, and torque that curvature produces. In addition to these, the Isogeometric tools (b-splines or NURBS), either integrated in the Finite Element Method or in a Boundary Element–based Method called Analog Equation Method, have been employed in this contribution for the dynamic analysis of horizontally curved beams of open or closed (box-shaped) cross sections. Free vibration characteristics and responses of the stress resultants and displacements to moving loading have been studied. 相似文献

Instead of using the previous straight beam element to approximate the curved beam,in this paper,a curvilinear coordinate is employed to describe the deformations, and a new curved beam element is proposed to model the curved beam.Based on exact nonlinear strain-displacement relation, virtual work principle is used to derive dynamic equations for a rotating curved beam, with the effects of axial extensibility, shear deformation and rotary inertia taken into account. The constant matrices are solved numerically utilizing the Gauss quadrature integration method.Newmark and Newton-Raphson iteration methods are adopted to solve the differential equations of the rigid-flexible coupling system. The present results are compared with those obtained by commercial programs to validate the present finite method. In order to further illustrate the convergence and efficiency characteristics of the present modeling and computation formulation, comparison of the results of the present formulation with those of the ADAMS software are made.Furthermore, the present results obtained from linear formulation are compared with those from nonlinear formulation, and the special dynamic characteristics of the curved beam are concluded by comparison with those of the straight beam. 相似文献

In the present paper the Differential Quadrature Method, DQM, and the domain decomposition are used to carry out the free transverse vibration analysis of non-uniform multi-span rotating Timoshenko beams with perfect and not perfect boundary conditions. The cross section could vary in a continuous or discontinuous fashion along the beam length. The material of the beam could be different in each beam span. The influence of elastically clamped boundary conditions at hub end are studied and discussed. The effect of an arbitrary hub radius is considered. The governing differential equations of motion for rotating Timoshenko beams come from the derivation of Hamilton’s principle. The first six natural frequencies of vibration are obtained for many particular situations and for some of them the mode shapes are also available. The examples of applications of the method indicated its effectiveness. The results for particular cases are in excellent agreement with published results and results obtained by means of the finite element method. 相似文献

In this paper, we present a non-local non-linear finite element formulation for the Timoshenko beam theory. The proposed formulation also takes into consideration the surface stress effects. Eringen׳s non-local differential model has been used to rewrite the non-local stress resultants in terms of non-local displacements. Geometric non-linearities are taken into account by using the Green–Lagrange strain tensor. A C0 beam element with three degrees of freedom has been developed. Numerical solutions are obtained by performing a non-linear analysis for bending and free vibration cases. Simply supported and clamped boundary conditions have been considered in the numerical examples. A parametric study has been performed to understand the effect of non-local parameter and surface stresses on deflection and vibration characteristics of the beam. The solutions are compared with the analytical solutions available in the literature. It has been shown that non-local effect does not exist in the nano-cantilever beam (Euler–Bernoulli beam) subjected to concentrated load at the end. However, there is a significant effect of non-local parameter on deflections for other load cases such as uniformly distributed load and sinusoidally distributed load (Cheng et al. (2015) [10]). In this work it has been shown that for a cantilever beam with concentrated load at free end, there is definitely a dependency on non-local parameter when Timoshenko beam theory is used. Also the effect of local and non-local boundary conditions has been demonstrated in this example. The example has also been worked out for other loading cases such as uniformly distributed force and sinusoidally varying force. The effect of the local or non-local boundary conditions on the end deflection in all these cases has also been brought out. 相似文献

In reality, nanotubes may not be straight structures. In this work, we study free vibration analysis of curved nanotubes based on a proposed nonlocal shell model. The free vibration of curved single-walled nanotubes (SWNTs), double-walled nanotubes (DWNTs) and multi-walled nanotubes (MWNTs) is analyzed. The governing equations of a curved nanotube are developed using the proposed nonlocal shell model based on elasticity theory of Eringen. Governing differential equations of motion are simplified to the ordinary differential equations using Fourier series expansion. And solutions are obtained by applying Galerkin method. Results obtained by the present model are verified by those presented in the literature. The numerical results demonstrate the effects of the curved nanotube length, thickness, bend angle and nonlocal parameter on the natural fundamental frequency. 相似文献

Basic Displacement Functions (BDFs) are introduced and derived using the basic principles of structural mechanics. BDFs are then utilized to obtain new shape functions for arbitrarily curved non-uniform beams, including the effects of shear deformation and extensibility of neutral axis. The main virtue of the proposed shape functions is their susceptibility to the variations in cross-sectional area, moment of inertia, and curvature along the axis of the beam element. Competence of the present method in static and free vibration analyses, as well as its applicability to the special case of straight Timoshenko beam has been verified through several numerical examples. 相似文献

In this study, free vibration analysis of a rotating, double-tapered Timoshenko beam that undergoes flapwise bending vibration is performed. At the beginning of the study, the kinetic- and potential energy expressions of this beam model are derived using several explanatory tables and figures. In the following section, Hamilton’s principle is applied to the derived energy expressions to obtain the governing differential equations of motion and the boundary conditions. The parameters for the hub radius, rotational speed, shear deformation, slenderness ratio, and taper ratios are incorporated into the equations of motion. In the solution, an efficient mathematical technique, called the differential transform method (DTM), is used to solve the governing differential equations of motion. Using the computer package Mathematica the effects of the incorporated parameters on the natural frequencies are investigated and the results are tabulated in several tables and graphics. 相似文献

An improved formulation for free vibration and spatial stability of non-symmetric thin-walled curved beams is presented based on the displacement field considering variable curvature effects and the second-order terms of finite-semitangential rotations. By introducing Vlasov’s assumptions and integrating over the non-symmetric cross-section, the total potential energy is consistently derived from the principle of virtual work for a continuum. In this formulation, all displacement parameters and the warping function are defined at the centroid axis and also thickness-curvature effects and Wagner effect are accurately taken into account. For F.E. analysis, a thin-walled curved beam element is developed using the third-order Hermitian polynomials. In order to illustrate the accuracy and the practical usefulness of the present method, numerical solutions by this study are presented with the results analyzed by ABAQUS’ shell elements. Particularly, the effect of arch rise to span length ratio is investigated on vibrational and buckling behaviour of non-symmetric curved beams. 相似文献
