We report the results of a systematic analysis of the existence and stability of spatiotemporal (two-dimensional) solitons (STSs) in the model of a planar waveguide with the intrinsic χ(2) nonlinearity. Fundamental obstacles to the creation of STSs under physically realistic conditions are the normal sign of the group-velocity dispersion (GVD) at the second harmonic (SH), and the significant group-velocity mismatch (GVM) between the SH and fundamental-frequency (FF) components. To construct STS solutions in a numerical form, we adjust the iterative method, which was recently used for finding temporal (one-dimensional) χ(2) solitons in a similar setting. We identify effective existence borders for the STSs, within which the energy loss to the generation of extended “tails” in the SH component (due to the normal sign of the GVD) is negligible. It is demonstrated that the existence region can be made much broader by means of the GVD-management and GVM-management techniques. We also explore interactions between the STSs, and find robust two-soliton bound states, with a moderate separation in the longitudinal (temporal) direction. Head-on collisions between the STSs are always destructive.  相似文献

In this paper, we report the evolution of quadratic spatial dark soliton in periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN). The generation of solitons pairs by wavefront modulation methods is investigated in both numerical simulations and experiments. We found that quadratic dark spatial solitons have analogue performances compared with that in χ(3) defocusing Kerr media.  相似文献

We consider the concept of femtosecond propagation for optical solitons in a dispersion management fiber and study the optimal amplification of optical solitons through dispersion wells and barriers and also for the dispersion tailored profile case. For the former, we observed periodic soliton trapping for the in-phase injection case when their respective velocities were equal and opposite with their amplitudes being unequal and no soliton trapping for the off-phase injection case when the two pulses are having a phase difference of π. For the latter, we observed an enormous amplification of the soliton pulses which is one of our main results in this Letter.  相似文献

We review the main physical and mathematical properties of dispersion-managed (DM) optical solitons. Theory of DM solitons can be presented at two levels of accuracy: first, simple, but nevertheless, quantitative models based on ordinary differential equations governing evolution of the soliton width and phase parameter (the so-called chirp); and second, a comprehensive path-average theory that is capable of describing in detail both the fine structure of DM soliton form and its evolution along the fiber line. 利用对称分步傅里叶法,数值模拟了光孤子在双折射光纤中的传输特性,分析了孤子脉冲两正交偏振分量的群速度失配对孤子传输产生的影响.结果表明,当光纤的双折射较小时,两偏振分量的脉冲强度变化不大,孤子基本能够保形传输|当光纤的双折射较大时,两偏振分量脉冲很快展宽,强度迅速减小,孤子不能够保形传输|如果光纤的双折射具有随机性,孤子传输的两偏振分量脉冲强度会随着传输距离有强弱不规则的变化,但是两偏振分量的强度变化互相补充,合成强度没有太大的变化,孤子能够稳定的传输|孤子间没有相互作用影响的传输距离随着光纤随机双折射偏振分量群速失配的增大而变小|通过选择恰当的振幅比,传统的不等振幅法仍然能够有效地抑制孤子间的相互作用.  相似文献

We examine the properties of dispersion-managed (DM) solitons in fiber lines with dispersion-compensation period L much shorter than amplification distance Z(a) . DM solitons in systems with short-scale dispersion compensation have reduced power compared with DM solitons in previously studied regimes with L>/=Z(a) power (for the same local and average dispersion and the same pulse width). As a result, chirped DM soliton transmission with reasonably low power can be realized with shorter pulses when DM solitons in systems with large L/Z(a) ratios have energies that are too high to be used in practice.  相似文献

The KdVN-soliton solutions are analysed in terms of the perturbation parameter λ which governs the nonlinearity. They are generated by rational Stieltjes functionsQ (N) (λ), each pole of which can be associated with a soliton. The asymptotic emergence of the separate solitons follows at once from the motion of the poles along the negative real λ-axis. Successive diagonal Padé approximants ofQ (N) (λ) are considered. A brief history of attempts to use solitons for optical fiber communications and of the technical developments toward making soliton transmission practical is reviewed. The main problems affecting long-distance soliton transmission, as well as techniques to solve them, are described. This paper study the dynamics of optical solitons for nonlinear directional couplers. This coupler system is considered with the group velocity dispersion and the cross-phase modulation of two components along with the spatiotemporal dispersion coefficients. The constraint conditions for the existence of optical Gaussons and dark solitons are listed under the log law and Kerr law nonlinearities, repectively. Additionally, a couple of other solutions known as singular periodic and combined dark-singular solitons, fall out as a by-product of this scheme. This scheme however fails to retrieve bright soliton solution.  相似文献

Expanding the Sagdeev potential to include fourth-order nonlinearities of electric potential and integrating the resulting energy equation, an exact soliton solution is determined for ion-acoustic waves in an electron-positron-ion (e-p-i) plasma system. This exact solution reduces to the dressed soliton solution obtained for the system using renormalization procedure in the reductive perturbation method (RPM), when Mach number (M) is expanded in terms of soliton velocity (λ) and terms up to order of λ2 are retained in the analysis. Variation of shape, velocity, width and product (P) of amplitude (A) and square of width (W2) for the KdV soliton, core structure, dressed soliton, and exact soliton are graphically represented for different values of fractional positron concentration (p). It is found that for a given value of the fractional positron concentration (p) and amplitude of soliton, the velocity of the dressed soliton is faster and width is narrower than the KdV or exact soliton, and agrees qualitatively with the experimental observations of Ikezi et al. for small amplitude solitons in the plasma free from positron component. Among all these structures, the product P(AW2) is found to be lowest for the dressed soliton and it decreases as Mach number of soliton or fractional positron concentration in the plasma increases.  相似文献

We explore the stability and dynamics of dark-bright (DB) solitons in two-component elongated Bose-Einstein condensates by developing effective one-dimensional vector equations and solving the three-dimensional Gross-Pitaevskii equations. A strong dependence of the oscillation frequency and of the stability of the DB soliton on the atom number of its components is found; importantly, the wave may become dynamically unstable even in the 1D regime. As the atom number in the dark-soliton-supporting component is further increased, spontaneous symmetry breaking leads to oscillatory dynamics in the transverse degrees of freedom. Moreover, the interactions of two DB solitons are investigated with an emphasis on the importance of their relative phases. Experimental results showcasing multiple DB soliton oscillations and a DB-DB collision in a Bose-Einstein condensate consisting of two hyperfine states of 87Rb confined in an elongated optical dipole trap are presented.  相似文献

We investigate one-parameter families of two-dimensional bright spinning solitons (ring vortices) in dispersive media combining cubic self-focusing and quintic self-defocusing nonlinearities. In direct simulations, the spinning solitons display a symmetry-breaking azimuthal instability, which leads to breakup of a soliton into a set of fragments, each being a stable nonspinning soliton. The fragments fly out tangentially to the circular crest of the original vortex ring. If the soliton’s energy is large enough, the instability develops so slowly that the spinning solitons may be regarded as virtually stable ones, in accord with earlier published results. Growth rates of perturbation eigenmodes with different azimuthal “quantum numbers” are calculated as a function of the soliton’s propagation constant κ from a numerical solution of the linearized equations. As a result, a narrow (in terms of κ) stability window is found for extremely broad solitons with values of the “spin” s=1 and 2. However, analytical consideration of a special perturbation mode in the form of a spontaneous shift of the soliton’s central “bubble” (core of the vortex embedded in a broad soliton) demonstrates that even extremely broad solitons are subject to an exponentially weak instability against this mode. In actual simulations, a manifestation of this instability is found in a three-dimensional soliton with s=1. In the case when the two-dimensional spinning solitons are subject to tangible azimuthal instability, the number of the nonspinning fragments into which the soliton splits is usually, but not always, equal to the azimuthal number of the instability eigenmode with the largest growth rate.  相似文献

The Korteweg-de Vries equation with the perturbing term εδ'(xVt) (a point-like dipole), which models disturbances produced by a small body moving in a liquid layer, is considered. In the case V<0, when the moving dipole emits a quasi-linear monochromatic wave, perturbation of the emission spectrum due to collision of the dipole with a free soliton is investigated. It is demonstrated that prior to the collision (at ft → − ∞) the resultant spectrum's width is exponentially small in ∣t∣, while after the collision (at t → + ∞) the width is ∾t−1. Then it is demonstrated that in the case V>0 (a non-emitting dipole) a soliton may be pinned by the moving dipole. In the adiabatic approximation, the pinned state is stable provided ε < 0. In this case a pair of solitons may also be pinned by the dipole, but that pinned state is unstable. Other types of solitary pinned profiles and their stability are discussed. Oscillations of a soliton near the adiabatically stable pinned state are accompanied by emission of quasi-linear waves. The emission intensity is calculated in a general form, and it is demonstrated that the oscillation are subject to radiative instability due to the fact that the energy of the system is not positive definite. The same model is considered with the Bürgers' dissipative term. The dissipation may compensate the radiative instability and render the pinned state of a soliton completely stable. Besides, it is demonstrated that the Bürgers' term gives rise to multisoliton pinned profiles. A maximum possible number of solitons in the profile is found.  相似文献

We study the roles of the vortex solitons in a 2 + 1 dimensional abelian Higgs model. From the effective lagrangian Leff for the soliton field χ, it is found that the appearance of the solitons reduces the dielectric constant to a value smaller than one. If the Higgs field 〈Hvac does not vanish, the vacuum is in the Higgs phase and the solitons are not important. If it does vanish, the solitons become massless and Leff has an infinite number of classically degenerate vacua. In the quantum theory of Leff with large coupling constant e, no evidence of 〈χvac ≠ 0 has been discovered. For this conclusion to hold it is crucial that the free energy of scalar QED monotonically increases with e2.  相似文献

Optical solitons in media with quadratic nonlinearity and frequency dispersion are theoretically analyzed. Internal soliton modes and the rate of their radiative damping as a function of detuning from the phase-matching condition and the nonlinear shift of phase velocity for different soliton dimensions (d=1, 2, 3) are found. Optical solitons and quasisolitons are investigated in reference to Cherenkov radiation. It is shown that both solitons and quasisolitons can exist, if the linear operator specifying their asymptotic behavior at infinity is sign-definite. In particular, the application of this criterion to stationary optical solitons shifts the soliton carrier frequency at which the first derivative of the dielectric constant with respect to the frequency vanishes. At that point the phase and group velocities coincide. Solitons and quasisolitons are absent, if the third-order dispersion is taken into account. The stability of a soliton is proved for fourth order dispersion using the sign-definiteness of the operator and integral estimates of the Sobolev type.
