In this paper, we have investigated the response of long period grating (LPG) as refractive index sensor. The response has been studied for refractive index variation ranging from 1 to 1.45. In this work, we found that the sensing mechanism is based on two different aspects. First is the change of coupling power from the guided core mode to other co-propagating cladding modes and second is the wavelength shift of the peak resonant wavelengths from their original positions due the change of refractive index of the environmental (external) medium surrounding the cladding of the grating.  相似文献

利用光波导的耦合模理论分析了长周期光纤光栅(LPFG)的折射率传感特性,给出了LPFG 的谐振波长相对于环境折射率变化时的漂移量解析表达式.对 LPFG 的折射率传感特性进行了数值模拟.结果表明:在光栅周期不变的情况下,当包层折射率小于且接近外界环境折射率时,波长的漂移量增大,且对应的模次越高、包层半径越小、包层折射率越小,波长漂移量越大,即 LPFG 对应于外界折射率传感灵敏度得到显著提高;当外界环境折射率大于包层折射率时,光栅的谐振波长将近似不变.  相似文献

A theoretical model of a new integrated planar surface plasmon-polariton (SPP) refractive index sensor is presented and comprehensively investigated. The main principle of operation of this device is based on high efficiency energy transfer between a p-polarized guided mode propagating in a waveguide layer of the structure and the SPP propagating in the opposite direction in a metal layer separated from the waveguide layer by a dielectric buffer. The high efficiency energy transfer is realised by means of a properly designed Bragg grating imprinted in the waveguide layer. This device is compact, free from any moving parts and can easily be integrated into any planar scheme. Our simulations for the sensor operating at the well developed and commercialised telecom wavelengths are based on coupled mode theory.  相似文献

We proposed a novel refractive index sensor based on a side-polishing fiber to be cascaded with a stress-induced long period fiber grating (LPG), which is created by applying a force to a V-grooved plate on the single mode fiber with micro-bending deformation. When the refractive index (RI) surrounding the side-polishing surface is changed, the LPG-induced cladding mode light could be coupled back to the core mode, so that it will result in the magnitude variation of LPG loss-peak. This property of index sensing based on the stress-induced LPG by monitoring the power-level change may be exploited in chemical sensing and environmental monitoring applications.  相似文献

This paper reports on the spectral (response) characteristics of fiber Bragg grating sensor to various methanol concentrations. A complete experimental analysis on the use of Ge-B co-doped fiber Bragg grating sensor for a concentration and refractive index measurement is presented. The spectral changes in the grating response due to variation of concentration have been investigated in relation to new sensing configurations. The results also highlight the possibilities of using the sensor for medical and biological applications.  相似文献

亚波长直径微纳光纤强倏逝场传输的光学特性,使其对周围介质折射率的变化具有极高的灵敏度.本文提出一种基于微纳尺度光纤布拉格光栅(MNFBG)的折射率传感器,结合微纳光纤倏逝场传输和光纤布拉格光栅(FBG)强波长选择的特性来实现高精度折射率传感,对其制备可行性进行了讨论.论文中对MNFBG折射率传感机理进行了深入的理论分析,并使用OptiGrating软件进行了数值模拟,模拟数据显示MNFBG折射率测量的灵敏度随着光纤半径的减小而增加,其中光纤半径为400 nm的MNFBG灵敏度可达到993 nm/RIU,相比于包层蚀刻的FBG灵敏度增加了170倍,说明MNFBG对发展微型化、高灵敏度折射率传感器具有良好的应用前景. 关键词: 微纳光纤 光纤布拉格光栅 折射率传感  相似文献

The super-resolution capability of scanning near-field optical microscopy (SNOM) with a gold particle is studied by the two-dimensional finite-difference time-domain (2D FDTD) method. We obtain SNOM signals by integrating the far field within the numerical aperture of an objective lens for a refractive index grating by scanning optically trapped gold particles with different diameters illuminated by focused laser light at the wavelength of 515 nm. The signal is strong at a high refractive index of the grating and exhibits similar behavior to that obtained in the experiment with the grating fabricated on a planar light waveguide circuit with a period of 1060 nm. Furthermore, the signal modulation increases as the gold particle diameter decreases and reaches 0.82 at a diameter of 50 nm.  相似文献

The main principle of this design is based on the efficient energy transfer between the waveguide mode (WM) and the co-directional SPP provided by a properly designed fiber long period grating (LPG). This LPG is imprinted into a waveguide fiber layer of a specially designed hollow core optical fiber. The simulations are based on the finite element method (FEM) algorithm in electromagnetics and coupled mode theory for gratings. Compared to the previous proposed structure using a fiber Bragg grating (FBG), this novel kind of sensor can greatly enhance the refractive index sensitivity, e.g., from 5.93 nm/RIU (with FBG) to 817 nm/RIU (with LPG) at the sensing refractive index of 1.40. The other advantage is that the working conditions can be performed for the well-developed telecom wavelength windows 1500-1600 nm.  相似文献

提出了一种光纤横截面折射率变化呈旋转非对称变化的长周期光纤光栅(R-LPFG) 结构,并利用多层圆波导理论和横截面折射率离散分析方法,结合模式耦合方程组和数值求解方法理论分析了这种光栅的模式耦合特征.理论分析表明R-LPFG纤芯基模主要与一阶非对称包层模发生耦合,当光栅旋转度逐渐变大时,R-LPFG基模会与一阶非对称包层模的奇模和偶模同时发生耦合,这就会使原来单一的谐振峰逐渐分裂成双峰,这是常规光栅类型所不具有的透射谱特征.由于R-LPFG的双峰来自同一对耦合模式,它们对温度的响应很相似,因此可利用双峰间距来进行无需温度补偿的扭曲、应变等物理量的测量.最后利用高频CO2激光脉冲写入法制作了这种光栅,并实验研究了这类光栅的传输谱演变特征,实验结果和理论分析一致.可以预见,这类光栅在光纤传感或通信中将具有较大的潜在应用价值.  相似文献

An analytical model of the diffraction energy exchange between the radiative and the waveguide modes in a planar optical waveguide corrugated by a waveguide grating with an arbitrary form of teeth is developed on the basis of the coupled-wave method. It is shown that the mechanism of the energy exchange between the modes is determined by the partial interaction of all components of the spatial frequency spectrum of the waveguide modes with the corresponding components of the spatial frequency spectrum of the grating. It is established that gratings with an asymmetric tooth profile providing a shift of the peak of the spatial frequency spectrum toward matching are characterized by a higher diffraction efficiency α; however, at small thicknesses δ of the waveguide grating, the efficiency is almost independent of the tooth profile. It is shown that gratings with a symmetric profile give on average a decreasing dependence α(δ), while gratings with an optimized asymmetric profile yield a monotonically increasing saturating dependence α(δ).  相似文献

We propose and demonstrate a sensitive vector twist sensor based on a small period long period fiber grating(SP-LPFG)fabricated with a femtosecond(fs) laser. The fabricated SP-LPFG is compact in size(2.8 mm) and shows strong polarization dependent peaks in its transmission spectrum due to the vectorial behavior of high-order cladding modes. Twist sensing is realized by monitoring the polarization dependent peaks, since the polarization of input light changes with fiber twist. The proposed sensor can be interrogated by the peak intensity and wavelength, with high twist sensitivity that reaches0.257 d B/deg and 0.115 nm/deg, respectively.  相似文献

A new type grating, tilted holographic planar structured dichromated gelatin (DCG) grating with large refractive index modulation, is presented in this paper. The grating is inscribed by superposing two coherent laser beams from the front and the thin side surfaces, respectively. The relationship between the tilted angle and the three types of coupling modes is analyzed when coupling with fiber. Besides, the couple mode theory and experimental investigation are applied on major characteristics analysis of the radiation mode DCG grating of tilted angle 45°. Due to the tilted planar structured grating has large refractive index modulation, it not only offers convenience for connecting (or integrating) with other fiber or waveguide-based devices, but also provide some special characteristics such as low wavelength selectivity (which is required for some applications such as multiple spectrum biomedical imaging). Therefore, this unique grating device has a wide application in optical fields such as for the waveguide-based, parallel, multiple spectrum imaging system.  相似文献

For the realization of optoelectronic integrated circuits, it is required to incident light perpendicularly to a planar Si photodiode. We propose a high-efficient vertical optical coupler using an amorphous Si optical waveguide grating coupler with top reflector, which is transparent at 850 nm wavelength range. The optical waveguide (width of 300 nm $\times $ height of 100 nm) coupler is analyzed by using finite element method. The coupling efficiency of 80 % is calculated at the grating period of 380 nm, the duty ratio of 0.75 and the depth of 35–65 nm with top metal reflector.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a novel high-sensitivity fiber-optic humidity sensor based on a calcium chloride thin film to be coated on an air-gap long-period grating fabricated (AG-LPG) by combining the fiber side-polishing and fiber etching methods. When the surrounding refractive index of the air-gap long-period grating is changed by a change in humidity, the grating resonant wavelength is considered varied. Experimental results indicate that humidity can be detected by this sensing mechanism and has a high sensitivity of about 1.36 nm/1%RH.  相似文献

A theoretical investigation is made of the field structure in a holographic grating formed by TE0 modes in a planar photorefractive waveguide by the photogalvanic recording mechanism. Waveguides with three characteristic refractive index profiles are considered, namely, a step function, a parabola, and a hyperbolic secant squared. A comparison is made between the light field distributions of TE0 modes in waveguides having the different profiles. The field structure of the space charge in planar holographic gratings is analyzed for their initial formation phase. A torsion sensor based on the near-helical(NH) long period fiber grating(LPFG) is fabricated by using a high frequency pulsed CO_2 laser. Each groove of the NH-LPFG is spirally written in the four sides of a single-mode fiber. The NH-LPFG has a helical periodic vertical index modulation. This is different from the screw-type index modulation of the common helical LPFGs(H-LPFGs) fabricated in a twisted fiber. The torsion and temperature characteristics of the NH-LPFG are experimentally investigated. The temperature sensitivity is about0.0668 nm/°C. The torsion sensitivity is 0.103 nm/(rad/m) and independent of the polarization state of incident light.  相似文献

A high sensitive and compact refractive index sensor based on slotted photonic crystal waveguide (S-PhCW) is demonstrated. This design is worked on a Mach–Zehnder interferometer (MZI) configuration with S-PhCW as the measuring arm, which can be used to detect any changes in refractive index that correspond to different concentration of the measuring liquid. Combining the slow light enhancement in photonic crystal waveguide (PhCW) with the advantage of excellent optical confinement in slot waveguide, the sensitivity of this simple scheme can reach to 2.3 × 109 nm/RIU with the active region of only 1 mm long.  相似文献

A novel complementary grating structure is proposed for plasmonic refractive index sensing due to its strong resonance at near-infrared wavelength.The reflection spectra and the electric field distributions are obtained via the finite-difference time-domain method.Numerical simulation results show that multiple surface plasmon resonance modes can be excited in this novel structure.Subsequently,one of the resonance modes shows appreciable potential in refractive index sensing due to its wide range of action with the environment of the analyte.After optimizing the grating geometric variables of the structure,the designed structure shows the stable sensing performance with a high refractive index sensitivity of 1642 nm per refractive index unit(nm/RIU)and the figure of merit of 409 RIU-1.The promising simulation results indicate that such a sensor has a broad application prospect in biochemistry.  相似文献
