We apply a simple ABCD matrix formalism to investigate beam propagation in left-handed material (LHM) slab systems. Firstly, we derive the expressions for the matrix elements for a single LHM slab. Based on the ABCD matrix, we obtain the field distributions both inside and outside the LHM slab, and the conditions for focusing and phase compensation of the Gaussian beam. Secondly, the derived ABCD law is applied to analyze the propagation properties of Gaussian beams through various cascaded LHM slab systems. The corresponding focusing and phase compensation conditions of the Gaussian beam are also obtained. Our theoretic formalism may be applied as a compact and effective tool for the research of light beam propagation in complex LHM slab systems, since it avoids the complicated integral operation.  相似文献

部分相干物质波是处于临界温度以上的玻色冷原子气体。密度和一阶关联都满足高斯分布的部分相干物质波是高斯谢尔模(Gauss-Schell model)物质波。本文通过研究高斯谢尔模物质波一阶关联函数的相位结构,揭示出物质波在部分相干情况下的轨道角动量特点。证明扭曲相位是部分相干物质波具有的独特性质,完全相干物质波(如,玻色爱因斯坦凝聚体)不具有此相位。此外,本文举例分析了高斯谢尔模物质波在一个"柱透镜"光脉冲作用下,其轨道角动量的变化情况。  相似文献

Average relative power transmittance is evaluated, by incorporating atmospheric turbulence, for partially coherent cosh-Gaussian, cos-Gaussian, Gaussian and annular beams. For all the collimated versions of these beams, against the increasing propagation length, there is a typical trend of the decrease in the relative average power transmittance with incremental drop being much less for partially coherent cos-Gaussian beams. The change in the transmittance versus the propagation length will be similar to the corresponding collimated cases, when these beams are focused at a certain focal length. Also partially coherent beams are less sensitive to propagation length changes, except for cos-Gaussian case. Partially coherent cosh-Gaussian beams exhibit a drop in the transmittance as the displacement parameter of the beam is made larger, whereas this trend is just the opposite for partially coherent cos-Gaussian beams. When examined versus the source size, for all the four types of beams, the transmittance has a similar behavior, i.e., it becomes high at small source sizes, falling with increasing source size, and following a dip, it starts to rise, eventually approaching the plane wave limit of unity. The occurrence of the dip coincides with the smallest source size for cosh-Gaussian, with the largest for cos-Gaussian, and about the same source size for Gaussian and annular beams. In general, the average relative power transmittance of coherent beam is affected much more than the partially coherent beams against the variations in source properties.  相似文献

In this communication we introduce the problem of time-dependent frequency converter under the action of external random force. We have assumed that the coupling parameter and the phase pump are explicitly time dependent. Using the equations of motion in the Heisenberg picture the dynamical operators are obtained, however, under a certain integrability condition. When the system is initially prepared in the even coherent states the squeezing phenomenon is discussed. The correlation function is also considered and it has been shown that the nonclassical properties are apparent and sensitive to any variation in the integrability parameter. Furthermore, the wave function in Schrödinger picture is calculated and used it to derive the wave function in the coherent states. The accurate definition of the creation and annihilation operators are also introduced and employed to diagonalize the Hamiltonian system.  相似文献

An energy pulse refers to a spatially compact energy bundle. In nonlinear pulse propagation, the nonlinearity of the relevant dynamical equations could lead to pulse propagation that is nondispersive or weakly dispersive in space and time. Nonlinear pulse propagation through layered media with widely varying pulse transmission properties is not wave-like and a problem of broad interest in many areas such as optics, geophysics, atmospheric physics and ocean sciences. We study nonlinear pulse propagation through a semi-infinite sequence of layers where the layers can have arbitrary energy transmission properties. By assuming that the layers are rigid, we are able to develop exact expressions for the backscattered energy received at the surface layer. The present study is likely to be relevant in the context of energy transport through soil and similar complex media. Our study reveals a surprising connection between the problem of pulse propagation and the number patterns in the well known Pascal’s and Catalan’s triangles and hence provides an analytic benchmark in a challenging problem of broad interest. We close with comments on the relationship between this study and the vast body of literature on the problem of wave localization in disordered systems.  相似文献

We prove that the revival-collapse phenomenon occurring in the atomic inversion of the two-photon Jaynes-Cummings model, when the mode is initially prepared in the coherent state and the atom is in the excited state, can be obtained from the evolution of the quadrature squeezing of the four-photon Jaynes-Cummings model.  相似文献

An exact solution of the problem of two two-level atoms with nondegenerate two-photon transitions and nondegenerate Raman transitions interacting with two-mode radiation field is presented. Asymptotic solutions for system state vectors are obtained in the approximation of large initial coherent fields. The atom-field entanglement is investigated on the basis of the reduced atomic entropy dynamics. The possibility of the system being initially in a pure disentangled state to revive into this state during the evolution process for both models is shown. As an important parameter, von Neumann entropy has been used to characterize the entanglement between atom and light field. We discussed the entanglement and nonclassicality evolution of an atom in a squeezed vacuum—a typical nonclassical field, and compare it with that of the coherent state. It shows that the atom-field entanglement in squeezed vacuum is much stronger and stabler than that in coherent state, whereas the nonclassicality of the light field depends on its initial status. This investigation is trying to find a new insight into the relation between entanglement of atom-field system and nonclassicality of light fields. The result shows that the entanglement between the atom and the field can be maintained well in the squeezed vacuum and this implies better control of atom and photon mutually.  相似文献

Using semiclassical theory, we study coherent trapping of a three-level atom, where the atom possesses a momentum of its center-of-mass motion and is irradiated only by a classical circularly polarized electromagnetic wave. We find that if the atom is initially in a coherent trapping state of it, under the zero- or first-order approximation, the atom is absolutely or nearly in the state hereafter.  相似文献

Base on our preceding paper [H.Y. Fan, H.L. Lu, Opt. Commun. 258 (2006) 51] we find that there exists ABCD rule involved in the product of general SU(1,1) squeezing operators, which can be considered as the quantum optics countpart of the ABCD rule in classical optics. The dissipative dynamics of Gaussian squeezed states (GSS) and coherent superposition states (CSS) are analytically obtained and compared. Time scales for sustaining different quantum properties such as squeezing, negativity of the Wigner function or photon number distribution are calculated. Some of these characteristic times also depend on initial conditions. For example, in the particular case of squeezing, we find that while the squeezing of CSS is only visible for small enough values of the field intensity, in GSS it is independent of this quantity, which may be experimentally advantageous. The asymptotic dynamics however is quite similar as revealed by the time evolution of the fidelity between states of the two classes.  相似文献

A 4 x 4 complex curvature tensor M>(-1) is introduced to describe partially coherent anisotropic Gaussian-Schell model (GSM) beams. An analytical propagation formula for the cross-spectral density of partially coherent anisotropic GSM beams is derived. The propagation law of M(-1) that is also derived may be called partially coherent tensor ABCD law. The analytical formulas presented here are useful in treating the propagation and transformation of partially coherent anisotropic GSM beams, which include previous results for completely coherent Gaussian beams as special cases.  相似文献

 通过加入高斯项的空间相干度,引入部分相干双曲余弦-高斯(ChG)光束,推导出部分相干ChG光束通过近轴ABCD光学系统传输的解析表达式,并用以研究其传输特性和空间整形。结果表明,部分相干ChG光束的光强分布不能保持传输不变性,其光强分布不仅与传输距离和离心参数有关,而且还与空间相干参数有关。在传输距离固定时,适当改变部分相干ChG 光束的离心参数和空间相干参数,可实现光束的空间整形。光束质量因子随空间相干性的增大和离心参数的减小而减小。高斯-谢尔模型光束和完全相干ChG光束可作为部分相干ChG光束的特例处理。  相似文献

Elegant Hermite–Gaussian beams (EHGBs) are extended to the partially coherent case. An explicit and analytical formula is derived for the cross-spectral density of a partially coherent EHGB propagating through an aligned or misaligned paraxial ABCD optical system. The propagation properties of a partially coherent EHGB in free space and its focusing properties through a thin lens are studied numerically, and are compared to those of a partially coherent standard Hermite–Gaussian beam (SHGB). It is found that the propagation and focusing properties of a partially coherent EHGB are closely related to its initial coherence. A partially coherent EHGB spreads slower than a partially coherent SHGB in free-space propagation. A partially coherent EHGB can be focused more tightly than a partially coherent SHGB.  相似文献

The mapped Galerkin method in solving the full-vector and quasi-vector wave equations in terms of transverse magnetic fields (H-formulation) for optical waveguides with step-index profiles is described. By transforming the whole x-y space onto a unit square and using two-dimensional Fourier series expansion, the modal distributions and propagation constants for optical waveguides are obtained in the absence of boundary truncation. Results for step-index circular fiber, buried rectangular waveguide, and optical rib waveguide are presented. Solutions are good agreed with exact solutions and numerical results by using vector nonlinear iterative method, Fourier operator transform method, and vector beam propagation method.  相似文献

The coherent states for a system of time-dependent singular potentials coupled to inverted CK (Caldirola-Kanai) oscillator are investigated by employing invariant operator method and Lie algebraic approach. We considered Coulomb potential and inverse quadratic potential as singularities of the system. The spectrum of quantum states is discrete for λ < 0 while continuous for λ ? 0. The probability densities for both Fock state and coherent state are converged to the center as time goes by according to the dissipation of energy. We confirmed that the probability density in the coherent state oscillates back and forth like a classical wave packet.  相似文献

We investigate a life time broadened and coherently prepared five-state system for multi-wave mixing processes. We show that very efficient wave mixing occurs, producing an unconventional mixing wave that has the characteristics of both conventional four-wave mixing (FWM) and stimulated hyper-Raman (SHR) emission. In addition, we show interesting multiple simultaneous multi-photon interference effects at large propagation distances and demonstrate more than 10 orders of magnitude suppression of populations of the probe wave terminal state and the near three-photon resonance mixing wave generating state. These new type of multi-photon interference based induced transparency effects, which are critically dependent on two distinctive relaxation processes involving both an external supplied and an internally generated fields, are fundamentally different from the conventional three-state electromagnetically induced transparency effect which does not depend on propagation. As a consequence, both the probe and the wave-mixing field to propagate nearly free of absorption and distortions in a highly dispersive medium.  相似文献

The propagation of flat-topped beam passing through a paraxial optical ABCD system is extended to partially coherent case and has been studied in detail. Based on Wigner distribution function (WDF), the irradiance distribution of partially coherent flat-topped beam is derived.
