The polarization-dependent competition on inversed population with local pumping in two-dimensional (2D) active random media is investigated by simultaneously solving Maxwell’s equations and rate equations of electronic population for both transverse magnetic (TM) and transverse electric (TE) modes. The threshold property of the two polarization states with local pumping is analyzed. Results show that the lasing threshold of TM modes is lower than that of TE ones when the radius of the local pumping region is suitably selected, and the case would be contrary when the selected radius of the local pumping region is excessive.  相似文献

We present a qualitative study of the subdiffractive light beam propagation in photonic crystals, based on the theoretical analysis of full Maxwell equation system beyond the slowly varying envelope and paraxial approximations. We calculate the zero diffraction curve in the parameter space, we calculate the weak asymptotical broadening (spreading in transverse direction), and we also analyze the dependence of subdiffractive propagation on the polarization orientation (both for TM and TE polarization).  相似文献

A theoretical and experimental study was conducted aimed at achieving laser oscillation in the (a-X) electronic transition of oxygen molecules. Although this transition is highly forbidden by rigorous selection rules, it may nevertheless concede stimulated emission, if the population inversion is high enough. The idea is based on a recently developed apparatus, namely, a porous pipe type high-pressure chemical singlet oxygen generator. A numerical model which describes the characteristics of this generator was developed to estimate the population inversion and small-signal gain achievable in a laser cavity using this source. The calculations showed that the small-signal gain ought to be sufficient to achieve laser oscillation. Preliminary experiments were conducted, but lasing was not yet observed. It is shown that the scattering losses caused by water droplet aerosols are mainly responsible for preventing our system from laser oscillation.  相似文献

研究了偏斜光线抽运下的回音壁模式光纤激光辐射特性.实验发现,在抽运光以偏斜光线方式沿光纤的近轴向抽运时,回音壁模式的光纤激光辐射中,既存在光电矢量和光纤径向垂直的横电波(TE),也存在光电矢量和光纤径向平行的横磁波(TM);随增益包层染料溶液折射率的增加,径向模式数和角模式数相同的TE波和TM波之间的波长差单调减小,回音壁模式激光辐射的中心波长向短波方向移动,辐射的波长范围变窄.用回音壁模式激光的辐射理论结合激光染料的四能级模型,满意地解释了实验结果.  相似文献

本文对发射波长为1.3μm,具有不同脊形波导宽度InGaAsP激光器的TE,TM模偏振输出特性进行了测量,实验观察到脊形波导比较窄的器件具有TE,TM模竞争现象,而脊形波导比较宽的器件在阈值电流以上,只有TE模激射,没有模式竞争。利用偏振度概念计算了阈值电流以上和阈值电流以下的偏振度,并对其进行了讨论。本文指出,只要严格选择激光器的参数,并控制环境温度,合理使用器件,就可获得稳定的偏振输出,而不必  相似文献

The spectral difference between different polarized modes in two-dimensional (2D) four-level two-electron atomic system is investigated by simultaneously solving Maxwell's equations and rate equations of electronic population. A new physical model including pumping dynamics is introduced, and the transitions between the energy levels are governed by coupling rate equations and the Pauli Exclusion Principle. Results indicated that polarized lasing modes have different field pattern, spectral range, and intensity. The photons in TE field are easier to leak from random media than those in TM field. The quality factor of TM modes is larger than that of TE modes and the loss of TM modes to be lower than that of TE modes. The spectral properties in four-level two-electron atomic system are polarization-dependent.  相似文献

光束在电介质界面发生全反射时,实际反射光束会在入射面内相对于几何反射光束产生一侧向位移,在垂直于入射面的方向产生一横向位移。利用改进的能流法研究了任意偏振态光束发生全反射时的侧向和横向位移特性。研究表明,侧向位移的大小与入射光束的两组成部分———TE和TM偏振光的相位差无关,而与两组分的光强比密切相关,且该位移可以表示为TE和TM偏振光束各自的位移按光强的加权平均。横向位移的大小不仅与入射光束两组分的光强比相关,还与组分的相位差密切相关。另外,反射光束不仅在椭圆偏振态入射的情况下会产生横向位移,而且在TE和TM偏振态之外的其他线偏振态入射时,也会产生横向位移。  相似文献

We demonstrate a multiwavelength fiber laser with ultradense wavelength spacing and ultrabroad bandwidth based on inhomogeneous loss mechanism with assistance of nonlinear polarization rotation. The inhomogeneous loss, implemented by incorporating a section of highly nonlinear fiber (HNLF) and a Sagnac filter in the laser cavity, can balance mode competition in erbium-doped fiber and result in ultradense multiwavelength generation. The bandwidth of the multiwavelength spectrum is greatly broadened owing to the intensity-dependent loss induced by nonlinear polarization rotation. Stable multiwavelength lasing with wavelength spacing of 0.08 nm and wavelength number up to 254 is achieved at room temperature. Moreover, multiwavelength tuning is realized through modifying polarization-dependent cavity loss.  相似文献

Transverse-mode competition and polarization selection in gain-guided vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers are studied by use of a transverse continuous model that incorporates basic physical mechanisms of polarization dynamics. Polarization stability and polarization switching within the fundamental Gaussian mode are described. The first-order transverse mode always starts lasing orthogonally polarized to the fundamental one. At larger currents polarization coexists with several active transverse modes. These results are shown to be sensitive to the carrier spin-flip relaxation rate.  相似文献

Spectra for two polarized states with competition on the inverted population in a set of two-dimensional (2D) active random media are calculated, and these random media have the same random constitution but different shapes. Results show that the power spectra for the two polarized states are all morphology dependent in the competition. The appropriate design of the shapes has an obvious effect on the selection of TM polarized modes and can improve the adverse situation of the TM polarized state in the competition. Such a property presents a new mode-selecting technique for each polarized mode in random media.  相似文献

Transverse localization of the optical Tamm plasmon(OTP) is studied in a metal-distributed Bragg reflector(DBR)structure with a one-dimensional disordered layer embedded at the interface between the metal and the DBR. The embedded disordered layer induces multiple scattering and interference of light, forming the light localization in the transverse direction. This together with the formation of Tamm plasmonic modes at the metal-DBR interface(i.e., the confinement of light in the longitudinal direction), gives birth to the so called transverse-localized Tamm plasmon. It is shown that for both transverse electric(TE) and transverse magnetic(TM) polarized light injection, the excited transverse-localized Tamm plasmon broadens and splits the dispersion curve due to spatial incoherence in the transverse direction, thus proving the stronger light confinement especially in the TE polarized injection. By adding the gain medium, specific random lasing modes are observed. The proposed study could be an efficient way of trapping and locally enhancing light on a subwavelength scale,which is useful in applications of random lasers, optical sensing, and imaging.  相似文献

Millimeter/submillimeter rotational absorption spectroscopy has been used as a diagnostic probe of a cw HCN discharge laser. This sensitive technique allowed in situ absolute population measurements of a number of vibrational states of HCN (including the upper lasing state) and other pertinent molecules. This unique set of data, which was obtained under a variety of discharge and laser conditions, is directly related to excitation, inversion, and relaxation processes. Along with elucidating several fundamental aspects of inversion and relaxation these results also strongly indicate that the primary laser excitation mechanism is near-resonant energy transfer from vibrationally excited nitrogen, N2 (v=1), to the fundamental symmetric stretching mode of hydrogen cyanide, HCN(100), and subsequent thermal population exchange between HCN (100) and the upper laser state, HCN (110).Work supported by ARO Contract DAAG-29-83-K-0078  相似文献

We propose a polarization splitter (PS) based on the slow light effect in a three-layer waveguide that consists of left-handed material (LHM) and dielectric layers with no birefringence. Transverse electric (TE) and transverse magnetic (TM) waves can be split by the intrinsic configuration of permittivity and permeability of LHM and dielectric layers. Simulation results are given to discuss the influence of electromagnetic parameters on the properties of our PS, and the capture and release of TE or TM waves are also realized in our PS which provides a flexible method to modulate the switching of different polarization waves.  相似文献

The ultrafast optical switching phenomena in a dense medium of two-level atoms induced by arbitrary varying pulses are explained in terms of the adiabatic cancellation of the pulse by the induced polarization. The final population inversion of the medium after the passage of the pulse is found to depend on the number of oscillations the inversion exhibits during the time interval when the normalized pulse amplitude exceeds the maximum allowed value of the atomic polarization. If the inversion undergoes an integer number of oscillations in this region, then the final state of the system returns to the ground state. On the other hand, if the inversion undergoes a half integer number of oscillations in this region, the final state of the system is fully inverted. This behavior is explored analytically and illustrated numerically for the constant, sine and secant pulse shapes.  相似文献

Based on the vector angular spectrum representation of optical beam and the method of stationary phase, the analytical TE and TM terms of vector Gaussian beam have been presented in the far field. By using the local polarization matrix, the polarization properties of the TE and TM terms in the far field are investigated, and it is found that the degree of their polarization is only determined by the spatial location. When the source is completely polarized, the TE and TM terms are both completely polarized in the far field. When the source is completely unpolarized, the TE and TM terms in the far field are partially polarized. The whole beam is also partially polarized except on the propagating axis. Moreover, the degrees of polarization of TE and TM terms are both larger than that of the whole beam.[第一段]  相似文献

Terahertz (THz) random lasing is studied numerically for two-dimensional disordered media made of ruby grains with a three-level atomic system. A method via the adjustment of the pumping area to control the polarization of the THz wave is proposed. Computed results reveal that transverse electric THz lasing modes could occur if pumping is supplied on the whole medium, while transverse magnetic THz lasing modes could occur if pumping is appropriately supplied on a partial area of the medium.  相似文献

在旋波、慢变振幅近似下,求解考虑了驱动场相位扩散后的系统密度矩阵运动方程,并给出了这个三能级梯型系统稳态线性解析解.利用得到的稳态线性解析解分析驱动场相位扩散是如何影响该系统输出无反转激光的.对稳态线性解析解数值计算的结果显示:由于驱动场相位扩散会导致无反转激光增益减小;即使由于驱动场相位扩散引起的线宽足够大,在该系统中仍能够获得无反转激光;线宽往往是破坏无反转激光产生和折射率的提高;因驱动场相位扩散导致无反转激光增益的减小,并不是总能够通过增大驱动场的Rabi频率得到补偿.  相似文献

The dye 1,4-bis(9-ethyl-3-carbazovinylene)-2-methoxy-5-(2′-ethyl-hexyloxy)-benzene (abbreviated 2CzV-MEH-B) dissolved in tetrahydrofuran (THF) and as neat film is characterised by optical absorption and emission spectroscopy. The absorption and stimulated emission cross-section spectra, the fluorescence quantum distributions, fluorescence quantum yields, degrees of fluorescence polarisation, and fluorescence lifetimes are determined. A lasing characterisation is carried out by pumping with single second harmonic pulses of a mode-locked ruby laser (wavelength 347.15 nm, pulse duration 35 ps). The excited-state absorption at the pump laser wavelength is determined by saturable absorption measurements. Laser oscillation of the dye in THF in a rectangular cell is achieved by transverse pumping using the uncoated cell windows for light feedback. From the emission behaviour around threshold the excited-state absorption cross-section spectrum in the laser active spectral region is extracted. The wave-guided travelling-wave lasing behaviour of the dye as neat film is studied by analysis of the amplification of the transverse pumped spontaneous emission. Surface emitting distributed-feedback lasing was achieved with a neat film on corrugated second-order periodic gratings.  相似文献
