研究了低能级偶极子的非相干泵浦过程环形腔中双稳行为的影响,结果表明,耦合系统的双稳机制为非相干泵浦过程的干涉性,双稳迟滞环与非相干泵浦场有严格的对应关系,在一定条件下,甚至出现多稳态,可以利用非相干泵浦的干步性能控制光学双稳。  相似文献

We present a theoretical investigation of optical bistability in a nonlinear semiconductor ring resonator, by taking into account the two-photon absorption and the free-carrier absorption. By solving the intensity equation within the ring resonator, a parametric formulation is obtained for describing the bistability relation between the input and the output intensities. Numerical results show that the nonlinear absorption effects can affect the critical points and domain of the optical bistability.  相似文献

We analyze the behavior of optical bistability in a four-level mercury atomic system driven by a cavity and two external coherent fields by means of a unidirectional ring cavity. We find that without interacting dark resonances and for large intensity of coupling field, the optical bistability disappears. So, the double dark resonances could significantly establish the optical bistability. Moreover, we demonstrate that the double dark resonances can dramatically reduce the threshold of optical bistability.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the optical bistability induced by optical nonlinearity in a compact parallel array of micro-ring resonators with radius of 5 μm. Due to the nature of perfect light confinement in this structure, resonance and accumulation process in a ring resonator and optical nonlinear effects, are observable even at small optical power (a few milliwatts). Different optical applications such as all-optical switching, optical memory devices, logic gates and modulators are possible, due to optical bistability in a ring resonator. Using alternative semiconductor compounds, instead of silicon that have weak nonlinear optical properties, we improve the performance of ring-resonator based devices. Here we use a polymer cladding layer with negative thermo-optic coefficient. Using this structure we can eliminate the temperature created nonlinearity which is a very slow process. Therefore, the switching speed increases from a few MHz to several tens of GHz. By plotting the transfer function of the resonator, a hysteresis loop is observed in a few milliwatts. Although, using a ring resonator array the bandwidth reduces, however, the width of the hysteresis loop and resolution between both steady state increases.  相似文献

We theoretically investigate the optical bistability (OB) in a V-type three-level atomic system confined in a unidirectional ring cavity via incoherent pumping field. It is shown that the threshold of optical bistability can be controlled by the rate of an incoherent pumping field and by interference mechanism arising from the spontaneous emission and incoherent pumping field. We demonstrate that the optical bistability converts to optical multi-stability (OM) by the quantum interference mechanism.  相似文献

We study the behavior of the optical bistability (OB) and multistability (OM) in a two-level pumped-probe atomic system by means of a unidirectional ring cavity. We show that the optical bistability in a two-level atomic system can be controlled by adjusting the intensity of the pump field and the detuning between two fields. Bistability behaviors in an optical ring cavity filled with a dense V-type four-level atomic medium are theoretically investigated. It is found that the optical bistability can appear in the negative refraction frequency band, while both the bistability and multi-stability can occur in the positive refraction frequency bands. Therefore, optical bistability can be realized from conventional material to negative index material due to quantum coherence in our scheme.  相似文献

Role of Fano interference and incoherent pumping field on optical bistability in a four-level designed In Ga N/Ga N quantum dot nanostructure embedded in a unidirectional ring cavity are analyzed. It is found that intensity threshold of optical bistability can be manipulated by Fano interference. It is shown that incoherent pumping fields make the threshold of optical bistability behave differently by Fano interference. Moreover, in the presence of Fano interference the medium becomes phase-dependent. Therefore, the relative phase of applied fields can affect the behaviors of optical bistability and intensity threshold can be controlled easily.  相似文献

We theoretically investigate the Doppler effect on optical bistability in an N-type active Raman gain atomic system inside an optical ring cavity.It is shown that the Doppler effect can greatly enhance the dispersion and thus create the bistable behaviour or greatly increase the bistable region,which has been known as the positive Doppler effect on optical bistability.In addition,we find that a positive Doppler effect can change optical bistability from the hybrid dispersion-gain type to a dispersive type.  相似文献

In this paper, the effect of plasmonic nanostructure on behavior of optical bistability and multistability in a four-level quantum system embedded in a unidirectional ring cavity has been studied. It is found that the distance between plasmonic nanostructures and a four-level quantum system is varied from 4.4 nm to 14.4 nm and has an essential role for controlling the threshold of optical bistability and multistability. Moreover, obtained results show that the group velocity of pulse propagation through the medium is strongly depended on the distance between the plasmonic nanostructure and the four-level quantum system.  相似文献

We demonstrate a fiber ring laser with a dispersion compensation fiber (DCF) and a delayed interferometer (DI) with temperature control, which is able to switch eleven wavelengths one by one. In ring cavity, DCF supplies different effective cavity lengths for different wavelengths, DI generates a wavelength comb corresponding to the ITU grid, a flat-gain erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) provides uniform gain for each lasting wavelength, and a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) not only acts as active modulator, but also alleviates homogeneous broadening effect of EDFA. Stable pulse trains with a pulsewidth about 40 ps at 10 GHz have been obtained by injecting external optical control signals into the laser. Wavelength switching process among eleven wavelengths is achieved by merely tuning an intracavity optical delay line.  相似文献

We demonstrate, for the first time to our knowledge, optical bistability on a highly integrated silicon device, using a 5-microm-radius ring resonator. The strong light-confinement nature of the resonator induces nonlinear optical response with low pump power. We show that the optical bistability allows all-optical functionalities, such as switching and memory with microsecond time response and a modulation depth of 10 dB, driven by pump power as low as 45 microW. Silicon optical bistability relies on a fast thermal nonlinear optical effect presenting a 500-kHz modulation bandwidth.  相似文献

We investigated the optical bistability in an Er3+-doped yttrium-aluminum-garnet (YAG) crystal inside a unidirectional ring cavity. We find that the intensity and the frequency detuning of the coherent field as well as the rate of incoherent field can affect the optical bistability dramatically, which can be used to manipulate efficiently the threshold intensity and the hysteresis loop. It is shown that photorefractive wave-mixing gives saturable gain, saturable absorption and Kerr-like nonlinear phase retardation. An analogy between photorefractive two-beam coupling and two-level atom system is then drawn. Under a nonresonant condition, we theoretically investigate hybrid absorptive-dispersive optical bistability and multistability behaviours in a three-level Δ-type system by using a microwave field to drive a hyperfine transition between two upper excited states inside a unidirectional ring cavity. We find that the optical bistability and multistability behaviours can be controlled by adjusting the intensity of the microwave field or the intensity of the coherent coupling field. Furthermore, our studies show an interesting phenomenon of the transition from the optical bistability to the optical multistability only by changing the negative detuning of the coupling field into the positive detuning of the coupling field.  相似文献

Optical bistable behavior in a quasi-waveguide containing non-linear film has been experimentally investigated in several publications in the past years; however, the physical mechanism for optical bistability has not been theoretically explained. In the present letter, we propose a theoretical model and successfully explain the observed optical bistability of both the reflected light and the scattered light (m-lines) in a non-linear quasi-waveguide. The optical bistability in the non-linear quasi-waveguide is due to the scattering-type wavevector mismatch mechanism.
