A chiral and thermally irreversible photochromic fulgide derivative incorporating an (R)-binaphthol unit in its acid anhydride moiety was used for the photoswitching of the pitch length of cholesteric liquid crystals. Since the absorption maximum wavelengths of both thermally stable photoisomers are nearly in the UV region (quasi-stealth photochromism), it can be exposed to visible light without inducing photochromic reactions. Therefore, when the photoswitching molecule is added to a permanent cholesteric liquid crystal whose reflection light wavelength is in the visible region, the UV light-induced photochromic reaction of the photoswitching molecule changes the wavelength of the reflection light in the visible light region. We have succeeded in regulating the color of cholesteric liquid crystalline cells between red and blue upon UV light irradiation. Attempts to introduce this system in polymer dispersed cholesteric liquid crystals are also described. 相似文献

Cholesteric liquid crystals (CLCs) have been widely applied in optical filters due to Bragg reflection caused by their helical structure. However, the reflectivity of CLC filters is relatively low, commonly less than 50%, as the filters can only reflect light polarized circularly either left- or right-handedly. Therefore, a high-reflective CLC filter with a single-layer template was proposed which may reflect both right- and left-handed polarized light. The CLC filters of the red, green, blue color were fabricated by the templating technology, which show good wavelength consistency. Additionally, a multi-phase liquid crystal filter with high reflectance was demonstrated by the single-layer templating technology. The templated CLC or multi-phase liquid crystal filters show great potential applications in the optical community, reflective display, and lasing. 相似文献

Fluorescent cholesteric liquid crystal materials (FCLC) with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) properties can effectively solve the contradiction between aggregation-induced quenching (ACQ) and liquid crystal self-assembly when light-emitting materials are aggregated, and they have great application value in the fields of anti-counterfeit detection and information hiding. However, generating a visually appealing design, logo, or image in the application typically requires an intricate fabrication process, such as the use of prefabricated molds and photomasks, which greatly limits the practical application of FCLC materials. Herein is reported a new method for spatially patterned liquid crystal (LC) microdroplet arrays using drop-on-demand inkjet printing technology. Through rational composition design, a spatial array composed of different liquid crystal microdroplets was established, and the array contains two entirely distinct but intact patterns at the same time, which can be reversibly switched under the irradiation of UV and natural light. Controlling self‐assembly behaviors of liquid crystals is a fundamental issue for designing them as intelligent actuators. Here, anisotropic porous polyvinylidene fluoride film is utilized as a template to induce homogeneous alignment of liquid crystals. The mechanism of liquid crystal alignment induced by anisotropic porous polyvinylidene fluoride film is illustrated based on the relationship between the alignment behavior of liquid crystals and surface microstructure of anisotropic polyvinylidene fluoride film. Liquid crystal elastomer actuators with fast responsiveness, large strain change, and reversible actuation behaviors are achieved by the photopolymerization of liquid crystal monomer in liquid crystal cells coated with anisotropic porous films.

Liquid crystal polymer nanofibers with a diameter ranging from 0.13 to 4.71 µm were prepared by electrospinning from a main‐chain liquid crystalline polyester, BB‐5(3‐Me). WAXD measurements showed that the formation and orientation of the ordered structure in the electrospun fibers were controlled by the fiber diameter formed during electrospinning. For BB‐5(3‐Me), the SmA structure with two layer spacings was formed in the fiber during the electrospinning. Under optimal spinning conditions, the SmA structure is highly oriented in the fiber. In addition, annealing transformed the metastable SmA structure in the BB‐5(3‐Me) fiber into stable SmCA one.

胆甾相液晶是一类具有周期性螺旋超结构的软光子晶体,能够选择性地反射不同波长的光产生结构色.在向列相液晶中掺杂光响应手性分子是制备光响应胆甾相液晶的普遍方法.在外界光源的刺激下,光响应手性分子的空间结构改变,诱导螺旋超结构的螺距发生变化,从而调控胆甾相液晶的结构色,因此光响应胆甾相液晶在滤光器、传感器、可调光学激光器和动态显示等领域具有广阔的应用前景.总结了不同光响应手性分子构筑的胆甾相液晶体系,分析了手性分子结构设计对胆甾相液晶结构色调控的影响,最终讨论了光响应胆甾相液晶目前面临的挑战以及未来的发展方向. 相似文献

Rewritable optical storage has been obtained in a spiropyran doped liquid crystal polymer films. Pictures can be recorded on films upon irradiation with UV light passing through a grayscale mask and they can be rapidly erased using visible light. Films present improved photosensitivity and optical contrast, good resistance to photofatigue, and high spatial resolution. These photochromic films work as a multifunctional, dynamic photosensitive material with a real‐time image recording feature.

The phase transition curves of a multi-component TN liquid crystal mixture (TN 88-1) and a multi-component cholesteric liquid
crystal mixture (Ch 88-2) were plotted by using a differential scanning calorimeter. The phase transition temperature and
phase transition heat were obtained from the DSC curves. The results show that the components of TN 88-1 are compatible and
they can form a stable mixture with CB 15 chiral liquid crystal. The components of Ch 88-2 are not compatible and Poly (MMA-BMA)
can greatly improve their compatibility.

设计合成了一系列具有不同烷氧基尾链长度的单体4′-烷氧基-4-联苯酚甲基丙烯酸酯Mbi Cm(m=1,2,4,6,8,10,12,14,16,18),通过自由基聚合方法合成了相应的具有不同烷氧基尾链长度的无柔性间隔基侧链型液晶高分子PMbi Cm,将所得的侧链型液晶高分子和相变材料石蜡按一定质量比混合,通过"加热-冷却法"成功制备了定形相变材料.通过凝胶测试发现当尾链长度为m=12,14,16,18时,高分子对固体石蜡具有良好的凝胶定形效果,且随着烷氧基尾链的增长,聚合物和石蜡的相容性增加,最低凝胶浓度降低,得到定形相变材料的凝胶解缔温度也相应下降.通过示差扫描量热法(DSC)、热重分析法(TG)、流变(Rheology)等测试考察了定形相变材料的相变储能性能、热稳定性和流变性能,实验结果表明该定形相变材料具有相变焓值高、热稳定性好、凝胶强度高等优点.通过红外光谱(FTIR)、偏光显微镜(POM)和扫描电镜(SEM)等测试发现PMbi Cm通过非共价键作用力自聚集形成三维凝胶网络结构,对石蜡起固定支撑作用. 相似文献

In this paper, a simple and powerful method to control the induced handedness of helical nanofilaments (HNFs) is presented. The nanofilaments are formed by achiral bent-core liquid crystal molecules employing a cholesteric liquid crystal field obtained by doping a rod-like nematogen with a chiral dopant. Homochiral helical nanofilaments are formed in the nanophase-separated helical nanofilament/cholesteric phase from a mixture with a cholesteric phase. This cholesteric phase forms at a temperature higher than the temperature at which the helical nanofilament in a bent-core molecule appears. Under such conditions, the cholesteric liquid crystal field acts as a driving force in the nucleation of HNFs, realizing a perfectly homochiral domain consisting of identical helical nanofilament handedness. 相似文献

利用紫外-可见分光光度计, X射线衍射仪与偏光显微镜研究了乙基纤维素(EC)与羟丙基纤维素(HPC)共混型胆甾液晶. 研究发现: 质量百分浓度相同时, 共混纤维素胆甾型液晶的最大反射波长与螺距随着共混物中HPC含量的增加而增大. XRD实验结果表明共混型纤维素液晶螺距增大与液晶体系中分子层间的距离增大相关. 可以利用该现象来调控纤维素胆甾型液晶的光学性能与螺距. 相似文献
