Summary In this article we develop a method of deriving asymptotic formulae for the orbital counting function for the action of certain discrete groups of isometries of simply connected negatively curved manifolds. We consider the particular case of normal subgroups 0 of a co-compact group 0 for which the quotient 0/ k . Even in the special case of manifolds ofconstant negative curvature, this leads to new results. In particular, we have asymptotic estimates for some groups which arenot geometrically finite.Oblatum III-1993 & 18-VIII-1993The first author was supported by The Royal Society through a University Research Fellowship. There are described the subgroups of the general symplectic group =GSp(2n, R) over a commutative semilocal ring R, containing the group of symplectic diagonal matrices. For each such subgroup P there is uniquely defined a symplectic D-net a such that ()pN(), where () is the net subgroup in corresponding to (cf. RZhMat, 1977, 5A288), and N() is its normalizer. The quotient group N × ()/() is calculated. There are also considered subgroups in Sp(2n, R). Analogous results for subgroups of the general linear group were obtained earlier in RZhMat, 1978, 9A237.Translated from Zapiski Nauchnykh Seminarov Leningradskogo Otdeleniya Matematicheskogo Instituta im. Summary In this paper we consider the problem of holomorphic continuation and removal of singularities of the CR functions given on K, where is a generic manifold with nondegenerate Levi form and K is a meromorphically p-convex compactum. We get some conditions on , relative to p-convexity and q-concavity, under which every integrable CR function given on K extends holomorphically in some domain \K, where is a wedge domain with edge . Our Results are local.Authors had a support of Russian Fund of Fundamental Investigations (grant 93-011-258).  相似文献

Let be a graph and G be a 2-arc transitive automorphism group of . For a vertex x let G(x)(x) denote the permutation group induced by the stabilizer G(x) of x in G on the set (x) of vertices adjacent to x in . Then is said to be a locally projective graph of type (n,q) if G(x)(x) contains PSLn(q) as a normal subgroup in its natural doubly transitive action. Suppose that is a locally projective graph of type (n,q), for some n 3, whose girth (that is, the length of a shortest cycle) is 5 and suppose that G(x) acts faithfully on (x). (The case of unfaithful action was completely settled earlier.) We show that under these conditions either n=4, q=2, has 506 vertices and , and contains the Wells graph on 32 vertices as a subgraph. In the latter case if, for a given n, at least one graph satisfying the conditions exists then there is a universal graph W(n) of which all other graphs for this n are quotients. The graph W(3) satisfies the conditions and has 220 vertices.  相似文献

Let be an eight-dimensional, connected, locally compact ternary field and let denote a connected closed subgroup of its automorphism group which is taken with the compact-open topology. It is proved that is either isomorphic to the compact exceptional Lie group G2, or the (covering) dimension of is at most 11. This bound can be decreased to 10, if the ternary fixed fieldF of is connected.  相似文献

In the mid-1980s an equivalence was established between the simple closed geodesics on the Riemann surfaces obtained as quotients of the upper half plane H by any of the following subgroups of the modular group (1) : , (3), and 3. An axis of a hyperbolic element of (1) projects to a simple closed geodesic on one of these surfaces if and only if it does so on the other two. This equivalence was used to obtain a variety of Diophantine and geometric results. In subsequent related investigations, the role of (1) was assumed by the Hecke triangle group Gq for q 3. (For q = 3, we have (1) = G3.) These works employed the analog of 3, denoted q.In the context of the Gq, the present paper gives the analog of , which we denote q. As in the case q = 3, we have [q:q] = 2. A rather full discussion of geometry of q\ H is given. In particular, we demonstrate that the equivalence of simple closed geodesics on q\ H and q\ H does not hold for q 7.As of this writing, we have not been able to obtain an appropriate analog of (3).  相似文献

The fundamental result of the paper is the following. Theorem: Let be a k-quasiconformal Jordan curve and let be another Jordan curve (not necessarily quasiconformal). Assume that f maps conformallyext ontoext , f()=, f()>0. We assume that there exists a homeomorphism between and such that Then there exist numbers =(k)>0 and A=A(k), such that f(())– A, .Translated from Zapiski Nauchnykh Seminarov Leningradskogo Otdeleniya Matematicheskogo Instituta im. A partial projective plane of ordern consists of lines andn 2 +n + 1 points such that every line hasn+1 points and distinct lines meet in a unique point. Suppose that two essentially different partial projective planes and of ordern, n a perfect square, that are defined on the same set of points cover the same pairs of points. For sufficiently largen we show that this implies that and have at leastn(n+1) lines. This bound is sharp and there exist essentially two different types of examples meeting the bound. As an application, we can show that derived planes provide an example for a pair of projective planes of square order with as much structure as possible in common, that is, as many lines as possible in common. Furthermore, we present a new method (twisted derivations) to obtain planes from one another by replacing the same number of lines as in a derivation.  相似文献

Let denote a bipartite distance-regular graph with diameter D 4, valency k 3, and distinct eigenvalues 0 > 1 > ··· > D. Let M denote the Bose-Mesner algebra of . For 0 i D, let E i denote the primitive idempotent of M associated with i . We refer to E 0 and E D as the trivial idempotents of M. Let E, F denote primitive idempotents of M. We say the pair E, F is taut whenever (i) E, F are nontrivial, and (ii) the entry-wise product E F is a linear combination of two distinct primitive idempotents of M. We show the pair E, F is taut if and only if there exist real scalars , such that i + 1 i + 1 i – 1 i – 1 = i ( i + 1 i – 1) + i ( i + 1 i – 1) + (1 i D – 1)where 0, 1, ..., D and 0, 1, ..., D denote the cosine sequences of E, F, respectively. We define to be taut whenever has at least one taut pair of primitive idempotents but is not 2-homogeneous in the sense of Nomura and Curtin. Assume is taut and D is odd, and assume the pair E, F is taut. We show
for 1 i D – 1, where = 1, = 1. Using these equations, we recursively obtain 0, 1, ..., D and 0, 1, ..., D in terms of the four real scalars , , , . From this we obtain all intersection numbers of in terms of , , , . We showed in an earlier paper that the pair E 1, E d is taut, where d = (D – 1)/2. Applying our results to this pair, we obtain the intersection numbers of in terms of k, , 1, d, where denotes the intersection number c 2. We show that if is taut and D is odd, then is an antipodal 2-cover.  相似文献

Consider a closed subgroup of the automorphism group of a homogeneous treeT, and assume that acts transitively on the vertex set. Suppose that is a probability measure on which has continuous density with respect to Haar measure and whose support is compact open and generates as a closed semigroup. It is shown that the Martin boundary of with respect to the random walk with law coincides with the space of ends ofT. This extends known results for free groups and applies, for example, to the affine group over a non archimedean local field.  相似文献

In this paper we give the relationship between the -invariants of two power series which are naturally associated to the -transform of ap-adic measure. Since thep-adicL-functions over arise as such -transforms, we obtain information about the minus part of Iwasawa's -invariant for the basic p -extension of an abelian CM-field.I would like to thank W. We construct an infinite family{ n}n=5 of finite connected graphs n that are multiple extensions of the well-known extended grid discovered in [1] (which is isomorphic to 5). The graphs n are locally n–1 forn > 5, and have the following property: the automorphism groupG(n) of n permutes transitively the maximal cliques of n (which aren-cliques) and the stabilizer of somen-clique of n inG(n) induces n on the vertices of. Furthermore we show that the clique complexes of the graphs n are simply connected.  相似文献

In this work, the continuously controlled assembly map in algebraic K-theory, as developed by Carlsson and Pedersen, is proved to be a split injection for groups that satisfy certain geometric conditions. The group is allowed to have torsion, generalizing a result of Carlsson and Pedersen. Combining this with a result of John Moody, K0(k) is proved to be isomorphic to the colimit of K0(kH) over the finite subgroups H of , when is a virtually polycyclic group and k is a field of characteristic zero.  相似文献

Let be a torsionfree lattice in G=PGL(n+1, , where n 1 and is a nonArchimedean local field. Then acts on the Furstenberg boundary G/P, where P is a minimal parabolic subgroup of G. The identity element I in the crossedproduct C *algebra C(G/P) generates a class [I] in the K 0 group of C(G/P) . It is shown that [I] is a torsion element of K 0 and there is an explicit bound for the order of [I]. The result is proved more generally for groups acting on affine buildings of type à n. For n=1, 2 the Euler–Poincaré characteristic () annihilates the class [I].  相似文献

Summary Let be a closed, cocompact subgroup of a simply connected, solvable Lie groupG, such that Ad G has the same Zariski closure as AdG. If : GL n () is any finite-dimensional representation of , we show that virtually extends to a representation ofG. (By combining this with work of Margulis on lattices in semisimple groups, we obtain a similar result for lattices in many groups that are neither solvable nor semisimple.) Furthermore, we show that if is isomorphic to a closed, cocompact subgroup of another simply connected, solvable Lie groupG, then any isomorphism from to extends to a crossed isomorphism fromG toG. In the same vein, we prove a more concrete form of Mostow's theorem that compact solvmanifolds with isomorphic fundamental groups are diffeomorphic.Oblatum 5-VII-1994 & 15-IV-1995  相似文献
