DESIGN AND STUDY OF NEW AZOBENZENE LIQUID CRYSTAL/POLYMER MATERIALS

Discussion is presented on the use of the photoisomerization of azobenzene chromophore in the design andpreparation of novel functional materials. The two systems reviewed are azobenzene polymer-stabilized liquid crystals andazobenzene elastomers. In the first case, a polymer network containing azobenzene moieties is used to optically induce andstabilize a long-range liquid crystal orientation without the need of treating the surfaces of the substrates. This optical andrubbing-free approach was applied to nematic and ferroelectric liquid crystals. In the second case, an azobenzene side-chainliquid crystalline polymer is grafted onto a styrene-butadiene-styrene triblock copolymer to yield a photoactive thermoplasticelastomer. Coupled mechanical and optical effects make possible the formation of dimaction gratings that may be useful formechanically tunable optical devices.

A STUDY OF HEAT BALANCE IN CHINA

The net income of radiant energy per unit area of the earth's surface (called radiation balance) is mainly divided among the heat flowing to the ground, the heat transferred to the air and the heat for evaporating moisture. Therefore, the heat balance of an area is the balance between radiation balance and the other energy expenditure or compensation caused by its transformation.The heat balance equation of the earth's surface of an area is expressed as R=Q_A LB P, where R is the radiation balance, Q_A the heat exchange between the earth's surface and underlying soil, LB the evaporation heat dissipation (L the latent heat of evaporation and B the amount of evaporation) and P the turbulent heat exchange between the earth's surface and the atmosphere.In this paper, while results are summarized of investigations on the components of heat balance of the earth's surface in China, various methods for determining the components of heat balance are also discussed and analyzed. THE STUDY ON THE SYNTHESES OF THREE NEW MICROPOROUS ALUMINOPHOSPHATES BY USING ETHYLENEDIAMINE AS TEMPLATE

Using ethylenediamine as template, we have hydrothermally synthesized three new microporous aluminophosphate crystals which were named AlPO_4-CJ_3, AlPO_4-CJ_6, AlPO_4-CJ_7, and characterized by means of X-ray powder diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, SEM, ~13C solid state NMR and TG-DTA techniques.     

A STUDY OF METHANE OXIDATIVE COUPLING OVER La-Th-O MIXED OXIDE CATALYSTS

The compositions and structures of La-Th-O mixed oxides as well astheir catalytic activity for methane oxidative coupling have been studied bymeans of XRD,XPS and IR.The results indicated that the solid solution ofLa_xTh_(1-x)O_(2-&)with the fluorite structure was formed in the range of 0≤x≤0.6and it was the main active phase for oxidative coupling of methane(OCM).     

A STUDY OF THE RADIATION BALANCE IN CHINA

In this study, we have used radiation data of 76 stations for the period of 1958—1964, radiosounding data of 28 stations for 1959—1961, and climatic data of more than 300 meteorological stations for 1950—1970, and calculated by climatological methods the direct radiation(S), the diffused radiation(D), the total radiation(Q) and the effective outgoing radiation(E) of the annual and monthly values in China. Using these calculated values and the average observed data of the annual and monthly albedo values(α), we got the annual and monthly radiation balance values(R) from the radiation balance equation.R=(S D)(1-α)-E=Q(1-α)-EBased on the above results we have plotted distribution maps of six components for the whole year and each month and made a comparatively comprehensive and systematic analysis of the characteristics of the temporal and spatial distribution of the components of radiation balance in China.     

A STUDY OF THE POLYMERIZATION MECHANISM OF ACETONITRILE IN GLOW DISCHARGE

Plasma polymerization of acetonitrile was carried out by a capacitively coupled RF plasma apparatus with external electrodes under some different reaction conditions such as discharge power. By investigating the informations provided by the polymer deposition regularities, IR spectra and elementary analysis results, the polymerization mechanism of acetonitrile in glow discharge have been investigated. The results show that acetonitrile polymerized in glow discharge mainly through hydrogen detachment for initiation at lower energy levels and the role that opening C≡N triple bond played in polymerization became more important at higher energy levels.     

STUDY OF HYDROGEN TRANSFER REACTIONS IN PROPANE AROMATIZATION OVER Ga MODIFIED HZSM-5 CATALYSTS

研究了丙烷在不同ＳｉＯ２／Ａｌ２Ｏ３比值的ＨＺＳＭ５和Ｇａ改性ＨＺＳＭ５催化剂上的芳构化转化，为探讨氢转移反应的能力，也考察了在丙烷中添加少量氢对芳构化转化的影响。结果表明，随ＨＺＳＭ５分子筛ＳｉＯ２／Ａｌ２Ｏ３比值的减小，氢转移反应程度增大；在分子筛中引入Ｇａ，氢转移反应能力增大。最后提出了有Ｇａ参与的反应机理。     

POLYMERIZATION OF A NEW SUBSTITUTED ACETYLENE BEARING A FURAN RING WITH PALLADIUM ACETYLIDE CATALYSTS

A substituted polyacetylene bearing a furan ring, poly(2-propynyl 2-furoate) (PPF), was synthesized for the first time with palladium acetylide complex catalysts in CHCl3 at 60℃ to give a soluble and stable polymer with a yield of ca.75%. Some features for polymerization of 2-propynyl 2-furoate are described and discussed. The resulting polymer was characterized by IR, GPC and ^1H-NMR analysis.     

A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF CHAIN DYNAMICS OF DI-AND TRI-BLOCK COPOLYMERS IN SEMIDILUTE SOLUTION IN A NON-SELECTIVE SOLVENT

The chain dynamics of a pair of diblock poly(styrene-b-butadiene) (PS210-b-PB960) and triblock poly(styrene-b-butadiene-b-styrene) (PS200-b-PB1815-b-PS200) copolymers in both dilute and semidilute toluene solutions has been comparatively studied by dynamic laser light scattering. As expected, the mutual diffusion of individual chain changes into a fast cooperative diffusion of the chain segments (“blobs“) between two neighboring entanglement points for both the copolymers as the solution changes from dilute to semidilute. Further increases of the concentration lead to a second slow relaxation mode. For the triblock chains, there exists an additional middle relaxation between the fast and the slow modes.with 0.33 ＜α＜ 0.44, much smaller than 0.75 predicted or 0.72 observed for linear homopolymer chains in good solvent. It implies that the solvent quality of toluene for PB might not be as good as that for PS. Due to such a difference in solubility, it is reasonable to speculate that the PB and PS blocks are transiently segregated in semidilute solution. The relaxation of these transient PB and PS richer domains leads to the observed slow relaxation. Such a speculation is supported by the appearance of an additional slow relaxation mode in the study of polyisoprene-b-polystyrene-b-polyisoprene in semidilute solution in cyclohexane, a non-selective solvent, in which we alternated the solubility difference by a variation of the solution temperature.

STUDY OF CALCIUM ION-SELECTIVE ELECTRODE BASED ON A NEW NEUTRAL CARRIER

A calcium ion-setective eletrode based on a new neutral carrier was studied.The electrode givesa Nernstian response in the rang 5.9-1 Pa and the response is stable in a wide pH range.Logarithms ofsetectivity coefficents are -2.3 Li(+),-3.5 Na(+),-4.0 K(+),-3.7NH_4(+),-4.5 Mg(2+) and-4.4Zn(2+).
