A proper edge coloring of a graph G is acyclic if there is no 2-colored cycle in G. The acyclic chromatic index of G, denoted by χ a(G), is the least number of colors such that G has an acyclic edge coloring. A graph is 1-planar if it can be drawn on the plane so that each edge is crossed by at most one other edge. In this paper, it is proved that χ a(G) ≤Δ(G) + 22, if G is a triangle-free 1-planar graph. 相似文献

It is conjectured that χas(G) = χt(G) for every k-regular graph G with no C5 component (k 2). This conjecture is shown to be true for many classes of graphs, including: graphs of type 1; 2-regular, 3-regular and (|V (G)| - 2)-regular graphs; bipartite graphs; balanced complete multipartite graphs; k-cubes; and joins of two matchings or cycles. 相似文献

A proper coloring of the edges of a graph G is called acyclic if there is no 2‐colored cycle in G. The acyclic edge chromatic number of G, denoted by a′(G), is the least number of colors in an acyclic edge coloring of G. For certain graphs G, a′(G) ≥ Δ(G) + 2 where Δ(G) is the maximum degree in G. It is known that a′(G) ≤ 16 Δ(G) for any graph G. We prove that there exists a constant c such that a′(G) ≤ Δ(G) + 2 for any graph G whose girth is at least cΔ(G) log Δ(G), and conjecture that this upper bound for a′(G) holds for all graphs G. We also show that a′(G) ≤ Δ + 2 for almost all Δ‐regular graphs. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Graph Theory 37: 157–167, 2001 相似文献

For a bipartite graph G with parts X and Y, an X-interval coloring is a proper edge coloring of G by integers such that the colors on the edges incident to any vertex in X form an interval. Denote by the minimum k such that G has an X-interval coloring with k colors. Casselgren and Toft (2016) [12] asked whether there is a polynomial such that if G has maximum degree at most Δ, then . In this short note, we answer this question in the affirmative; in fact, we prove that a cubic polynomial suffices. We also deduce some improved upper bounds on for bipartite graphs with small maximum degree. 相似文献

A graph is 1-planar if it can be drawn on the plane so that each edge is crossed by at most one other edge. In this paper, it is proved that each 1-planar graph with maximum degree Δ is (Δ+1)-edge-choosable and (Δ+2)- total-choosable if Δ≥16, and is Δ-edge-choosable and (Δ+1)-total-choosable if Δ≥21. The second conclusion confirms the list coloring conjecture for the class of 1-planar graphs with large maximum degree. 相似文献

We consider lower bounds on the the vertex‐distinguishing edge chromatic number of graphs and prove that these are compatible with a conjecture of Burris and Schelp 8 . We also find upper bounds on this number for certain regular graphs G of low degree and hence verify the conjecture for a reasonably large class of such graphs. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A proper edge coloring of a graph G is called acyclic if there is no 2-colored cycle in G. The acyclic edge chromatic number of G, denoted by a′(G), is the least number of colors in an acyclic edge coloring of G. Alon et al. conjectured that a′(G) ⩽ Δ(G) + 2 for any graphs. For planar graphs G with girth g(G), we prove that a′(G) ⩽ max{2Δ(G) − 2, Δ(G) + 22} if g(G) ⩾ 3, a′(G) ⩽ Δ(G) + 2 if g(G) ⩾ 5, a′(G) ⩽ Δ(G) + 1 if g(G) ⩾ 7, and a′(G) = Δ(G) if g(G) ⩾ 16 and Δ(G) ⩾ 3. For series-parallel graphs G, we have a′(G) ⩽ Δ(G) + 1.

Let G(V, E) be a graph. A k-adjacent vertex-distinguishing equatable edge coloring of G, k-AVEEC for short, is a proper edge coloring f if (1) C(u)≠C(v) for uv ∈ E(G), where C(u) = {f(uv)|uv ∈ E}, and (2) for any i, j = 1, 2,… k, we have ||Ei| |Ej|| ≤ 1, where Ei = {e|e ∈ E(G) and f(e) = i}. χáve (G) = min{k| there exists a k-AVEEC of G} is called the adjacent vertex-distinguishing equitable edge chromatic number of G. In this paper, we obtain the χáve (G) of some special graphs and present a conjecture. 相似文献

An edge coloring of a graph is orientable if and only if it is possible to orient the edges of the graph so that the color of each edge is determined by the head of its corresponding oriented arc. The goals of this paper include finding a forbidden substructure characterization of orientable colorings and giving a linear time recognition algorithm for orientable colorings.An edge coloring is lexical if and only if it is possible to number the vertices of the graph so that the color of each edge is determined by its lower endpoint. Lexical colorings are, of course, the orientable colorings in which the underlying orientation is acyclic. Lexical colorings play an important role in Canonical Ramsey theory, and it is this standpoint that motivates the current study. 相似文献

In this article, we introduce the new notion of acyclic improper colorings of graphs. An improper coloring of a graph is a vertex-coloring in which adjacent vertices are allowed to have the same color, but each color class Vi satisfies some condition depending on i. Such a coloring is acyclic if there are no alternating 2-colored cycles. We prove that every outerplanar graph can be acyclically 2-colored in such a way that each monochromatic subgraph has degree at most five and that this result is best possible. For planar graphs, we prove some negative results and state some open problems. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Graph Theory 32: 97–107, 1999 相似文献

An interval-coloring of a multigraph is a proper edge coloring with colors such that the colors of the edges incident with every vertex of are colored by consecutive colors. A cyclic interval-coloring of a multigraph is a proper edge coloring with colors such that the colors of the edges incident with every vertex of are colored by consecutive colors, under the condition that color is considered as consecutive to color . Denote by () and () the minimum and maximum number of colors in a (cyclic) interval coloring of a multigraph , respectively. We present some new sharp bounds on and for multigraphs satisfying various conditions. In particular, we show that if is a -connected multigraph with an interval coloring, then . We also give several results towards the general conjecture that for any triangle-free graph with a cyclic interval coloring; we establish that approximate versions of this conjecture hold for several families of graphs, and we prove that the conjecture is true for graphs with maximum degree at most . 相似文献

Let Δ denote the maximum degree of a graph. Fiam?ík first and then Alon et al. again conjectured that every graph is acyclically edge (Δ+2)-colorable. Even for planar graphs, this conjecture remains open. It is known that every triangle-free planar graph is acyclically edge (Δ+5)-colorable. This paper proves that every planar graph without intersecting triangles is acyclically edge (Δ+4)-colorable. 相似文献

A proper edge coloring of a graph G is called acyclic if there is no 2‐colored cycle in G. The acyclic edge chromatic number of G, denoted by χ(G), is the least number of colors in an acyclic edge coloring of G. In this paper, we determine completely the acyclic edge chromatic number of outerplanar graphs. The proof is constructive and supplies a polynomial time algorithm to acyclically color the edges of any outerplanar graph G using χ(G) colors. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A proper edge-k-coloring of a graph G is a mapping from E(G) to {1, 2,..., k} such that no two adjacent edges receive the same color. A proper edge-k-coloring of G is called neighbor sum distinguishing if for each edge uv ∈ E(G), the sum of colors taken on the edges incident to u is different from the sum of colors taken on the edges incident to v. Let χ_Σ'(G) denote the smallest value k in such a coloring of G. This parameter makes sense for graphs containing no isolated edges(we call such graphs normal). The maximum average degree mad(G) of G is the maximum of the average degrees of its non-empty subgraphs. In this paper, we prove that if G is a normal subcubic graph with mad(G) 5/2,then χ_Σ'(G) ≤ 5. We also prove that if G is a normal subcubic graph with at least two 2-vertices, 6 colors are enough for a neighbor sum distinguishing edge coloring of G, which holds for the list version as well.

Suppose G is a graph embedded in Sg with width (also known as edge width) at least 264(2g−1). If P ⊆ V(G) is such that the distance between any two vertices in P is at least 16, then any 5‐coloring of P extends to a 5‐coloring of all of G. We present similar extension theorems for 6‐ and 7‐chromatic toroidal graphs, for 3‐colorable large‐width graphs embedded on Sg with every face even‐sided, and for 4‐colorable large‐width Eulerian triangulations. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
