A copper bromide complex based on benzoin 1′-phthalazinylhydrazone is synthesized. Within density functional theory (OPBE/TZP) the optimal structural parameters of the complex are determined. X-ray Absorption Near-Edge Structure (XANES) spectra above the K absorption edge of copper are measured in the copper bromide complex. Theoretical XANES spectra of the K absorption edge of copper are calculated based on the full multiple scattering method and in the full potential of the finite difference method. Good agreement between the theoretical XANES spectrum and the experimental data is obtained.  相似文献

The excited-state structure of a dinuclear platinum(II) complex with tert-butyl substituted pyrazolate bridging units, [Pt(ppy)(μ-(t)Bu(2)pz)](2) (ppy = 2-phenylpyridine; (t)Bu(2)pz = 3,5-di-tert-butylpyrazolate) is studied by X-ray transient absorption (XTA) spectroscopy to reveal the transient electronic and nuclear geometry. DFT calculations predict that the lowest energy triplet excited state, assigned to a metal-metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MMLCT) transition, has a contraction in the Pt-Pt distance. The Pt-Pt bond length and other structural parameters extracted from fitting the experimental XTA difference spectra from full multiple scattering (FMS) and multidimensional interpolation calculations indicates a metal-metal distance decrease by approximately 0.2 ? in the triplet excited state. The advantages and challenges of this approach in resolving dynamic transient structures of nonbonding or weak-bonding dinuclear metal complexes in solution are discussed.  相似文献

Ca K edge X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) spectroscopy was utilized for the characterization and quantification of calcium carbonate polymorphs and their mixtures. The advantage of the XAFS is the small sample quantity required for measurements, and a flexible sample environment. The near-edge XAFS spectra of calcite, aragonite and vaterite were measured with the conversion electron yield (CEY) method, and the obtained spectra showed characteristic features that can be utilized as fingerprints. The quantification of mixed polymorphs was examined by using a linear combination fitting of reference XAFS spectra. Though the quality of the fits was satisfactory, discrepancies in the evaluated values were observed between those with X-ray diffraction (XRD) and XAFS. The nonuniformity of samples may be enhanced by the surface sensitivity of the CEY method.  相似文献

X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) spectra at the cooper L2,3-edge of small cooper nanoclusters has been studied. Theoretical interpretation of XANES spectra measured for small copper nanoclusters have been performed. Theoretical analysis is based on a self-consistent full multiple scattering theory of X-ray absorption as well as on non-muffin-tin finite difference method (FDM). The Mg K-edge and Zn K- and L3-edge X-ray absorption near edge spectra of Mg and Zn porphyrins in the ground state and low-lying optically excited states are calculated. Also computed are X-ray absorption near edge spectra of Fe(II) spin crossover compound in its ground and low-lying optically excited states, motivated by a recent experiment (J. Phys. Chem. A 2006, 110, 38). The calculated absorption spectra of optically excited states can be used to simulate ultrafast optical pump/X-ray probe experiments.  相似文献

Two tetranuclear Mn complexes with an average Mn oxidation state of +2.5 have been prepared. These valence isomers have been characterized by a combination of X-ray crystallography, X-ray absorption spectroscopy, and magnetic susceptibility. The Mn(II)3Mn(IV) tetramer has the Mn ions arranged in a distorted tetrahedron, with an S = 6 ground spin state, dominated by ferromagnetic exchange among the manganese ions. The Mn(II)2Mn(III)2 tetramer also has a distorted tetrahedral arrangement of Mn ions but shows magnetic behavior, suggesting that it is a single-molecule magnet. The X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) spectra for the two complexes are similar, suggesting that, while Mn XANES has sufficient sensitivity to distinguish between trinuclear valence isomers (Alexiou et al. Inorg. Chem. 2003, 42, 2185), similar distinctions are difficult for tetranuclear complexes such as that found in the photosynthetic oxygen-evolving complex.  相似文献

High-pressure in situ X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) and extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) data are reported during the selective oxidation of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde in supercritical carbon dioxide over a Pd/Al(2)O(3) catalyst (shell impregnated). For this purpose, a continuous-flow system with a spectroscopic cell suitable for in situ X-ray absorption studies on heterogeneous catalysts up to 200 degrees C and 200 bar has been developed. Due to the high contribution of the dense fluid to the overall X-ray absorption, high stability of the process pressure is mandatory, particularly when recording EXAFS spectra. According to EXAFS and XANES results, the palladium particles were fully reduced after exposure to benzyl alcohol in scCO(2). In contrast to Pd-catalyzed liquid-phase oxidation, a higher oxygen tolerance of the catalyst was observed. Palladium was partially oxidized on the surface under typical reaction conditions (0.9 mol % benzyl alcohol/0.5 mol % O(2) in carbon dioxide), which gradually increased when the concentration of oxygen in the feed was raised. Both XANES and EXAFS data uncovered that palladium is mainly oxidized on the surface or within the outermost layers. These results are in accordance with simulations of the XANES data using the FEFF8.20 code (program for ab initio calculations on multiple scattering XAS) and EXAFS data fitting/simulation.  相似文献

X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) was used to investigate the local structure arrangements of submicrocrystalline lithium iron phosphate and its precursors. The former material, proven to be very promising as active cathode material in lithium metal and lithium-ion batteries, was synthesized through a new procedure that combines a simple sol-gel precipitation with a moderate temperature (e.g., low cost) heat treatment. X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) and extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectra taken at the Fe K-edge pointed out the modification of the Fe site during the synthesis steps that allow one to produce the submicrometer size crystalline LiFePO4 (active material) useful for batteries applications. The XAS investigation has shown that such a material is different from the conventional crystalline LiFePO4 on the short-range order. The difference is attributed to the synthesis procedure.  相似文献

X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) provides a direct means of solving the controversy on Cr oxidation states in nitroso complexes. The first XAS studies of four known Cr-NO complexes, [Cr(NO)(OH(2))(5)](2+), [Cr(NO)(acac)(2)(OH(2))], [Cr(NO)(CN)(5)](3)(-), and [Cr(NO)(NCS)(5)](3)(-), have been performed, in comparison with the related Cr(III) complexes, [Cr(OH(2))(6)](3+), [Cr(acac)(3)], [Cr(CN)(6)](3)(-), and [Cr(NCS)(6)](3)(-). The X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) spectra of the Cr-NO complexes are distinguished from those of the corresponding Cr(III) complexes by increased intensities of pre-edge absorbancies due to the 1s --> 3d transition, as well as with slight shifts (by 0.2-1.0 eV) of the edge positions to lower energies, with no major changes in the edge shape. These features, together with the available structural data on Cr-NO complexes, show that the effective Cr oxidation states in such complexes are close to Cr(III), due to the pi-back-bonding within the Cr-NO moiety. Multiple-scattering fitting of X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) spectra of [Cr(NO)(acac)(2)(OH(2))] supported the assignment of this complex as a trans-isomer (Keller, A.; Jezovska-Trzebiatowska, B. Polyhedron 1985, 4, 1847-1852). The first crystal structure of a Cr nitroso-isothiocyanato complex, (Ph(4)P)(3)[Cr(NO)(NCS)(5)].2.4(CH(3))(2)CO, has been determined.  相似文献

Formaldehyde in aqueous solution is hydrolysed and forms methanediol. Using X-ray absorption spectroscopy we show that the hydrolysation product can be identified by a distinct electronic signature in the spectra. This is manifested by the disappearance of the oxygen 1s → π* absorption line. The X-ray absorption spectrum of aqueous formaldehyde is compared with those of the structurally similar formamide and urea, which are in contrast not hydrolysed in aqueous solution. We thereby demonstrate the exceptional sensitivity and simplicity of the technique to monitor this fundamental process in the aqueous phase.  相似文献

The coordination structures of U(IV), Np(IV), and Th(IV) in aqueous solution have been determined by studying the X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) of the actinide (An) L(3)-edge absorption spectra. The high sensitivity of XANES to the bonding geometry provides an unambiguous determination of the coordination polyhedron. On the basis of the comparison of ab initio computations with the experimental data we conclude that the hydration sphere of the three An(IV) aqua-ions studied is best modeled by 9 water molecules forming a tricapped trigonal prism.  相似文献

The integral membrane enzyme particulate methane monooxygenase (pMMO) converts methane, the most inert hydrocarbon, to methanol under ambient conditions. The 2.8-A resolution pMMO crystal structure revealed three metal sites: a mononuclear copper center, a dinuclear copper center, and a nonphysiological mononuclear zinc center. Although not found in the crystal structure, solution samples of pMMO also contain iron. We have used X-ray absorption spectroscopy to analyze the oxidation states and coordination environments of the pMMO metal centers in as-isolated (pMMO(iso)), chemically reduced (pMMO(red)), and chemically oxidized (pMMO(ox)) samples. X-ray absorption near-edge spectra (XANES) indicate that pMMO(iso) contains both Cu(I) and Cu(II) and that the pMMO Cu centers can undergo redox chemistry. Extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) analysis reveals a Cu-Cu interaction in all redox forms of the enzyme. The Cu-Cu distance increases from 2.51 to 2.65 A upon reduction, concomitant with an increase in the average Cu-O/N bond lengths. Appropriate Cu2 model complexes were used to refine and validate the EXAFS fitting protocols for pMMO(iso). Analysis of Fe EXAFS data combined with electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra indicates that Fe, present as Fe(III), is consistent with heme impurities. These findings are complementary to the crystallographic data and provide new insight into the oxidation states and possible electronic structures of the pMMO Cu ions.  相似文献

Only limited information is available about the behavior of antimony (Sb) in contaminated soils. However, understanding the behavior of Sb in contaminated soils is important, because the toxicity or solubility of this element depends on its chemical state. In this study, we investigated the levels of Sb and the chemical forms of Sb in the soil around a smelter using X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) spectra. The highest Sb concentration in the contaminated soil was 2900 mg/kg dry soil. According to Sb-K edge X-ray absorption near edge (XANE) spectra, the Sb in the soil was in the form of Sb(V) compounds. The similarity of extended XAFS (EXAFS) spectra suggests that Sb speciation was independent of the sampling site, which indicates that Sb or Sb2O3 emitted from the smelter was converted into Sb(V) compounds in the soil.  相似文献

High-resolution terahertz absorption spectra (0.06-3 THz) have been obtained at 4.2 K for three crystalline forms of trialanine [H2+-(Ala)3-O-]. The crystal structures differ in their beta-sheet forms (parallel vs antiparallel) and in their water composition (hydrated vs dehydrated antiparallel beta-sheet). The spectra are nearly vibrationally resolved, with little absorption below 1 THz. In sharp contrast to observations made in the mid-IR region, the spectral patterns of all three forms are qualitatively different, illustrating the extreme sensitivity to changes in the intermolecular hydrogen-bonding networks that stabilize peptide crystals. Predictions obtained from a classical force field model (CHARMM) and density functional theory (DFT/PW91) for periodic solids are compared with the X-ray structural data and the terahertz absorption spectra. In general, the results for the parallel beta-sheet are in better agreement with experiment than those for the antiparallel beta-sheet. For all three structures, however, most hydrogen bond distances are underestimated at both levels of theory, and the predicted absorption features are significantly red-shifted for the two antiparallel beta-sheet structures. Moreover, the nuclear motions predicted at the two levels of theory are qualitatively different. These results indicate that the PW91 functional is not sufficient to treat the weak intersheet hydrogen bonding present in the different beta-sheet forms and strongly suggest the need for improved force field models that include three-atom hydrogen-bonding terms for periodic solids.  相似文献

1s2p resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS) spectroscopy has been measured for a series of iron oxides, including octahedral and tetrahedral Fe(II) and Fe(III) systems. Their spectral shapes have been analyzed and explained using crystal-field multiplet simulations. The RIXS planes and the K-edge and L-edge X-ray absorption spectra related to these RIXS planes will be discussed with respect to their analytical opportunities. It is concluded that the full power and possibilities of 1s2p RIXS needs an overall resolution of 0.3 eV. This will yield a technique with more detailed information than K-edge and L-edge X-ray absorption combined, obtained in a single experiment. Another major advantage is that 1s2p RIXS involves only hard X-rays, and experiments under essentially any condition and on any system are feasible.  相似文献

We report X-ray emission spectra of Fe(III), Fe(II), and Co(II) spin-crossover compounds in their high-spin and low-spin forms. It is shown that all X-ray emission features are sensitive to the spin state. Variations of the Kbeta and the Kalpha emission line shapes, which are in agreement with theory, can be used as quantitative probes of the spin state; it is suggested that with appropriate reference experiments one can extract the spin momentum for a general case. Resonant X-ray emission spectra unveil details of the redistribution of electrons on the 3d levels associated with the spin-state change by revealing features at the X-ray absorption preedge not accessible through standard absorption measurements.  相似文献

The finite difference method for near-edge structure is used to calculate X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) spectra. We extend the range of calculation for copper above the K-shell threshold and compare the results with recent experimental data in the X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) region.
