We study the Fredholm properties of parabolic evolution equations on R with inhomogeneous boundary values. These problems are transformed into evolution equations with inhomogeneities taking values in certain extrapolation spaces. Assuming that the underlying homogeneous problem is asymptotically hyperbolic, we show the Fredholm alternative for these equations. The results are applied to parabolic partial differential equations.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider some singular formally symmetric (self-adjoint) boundary value problems generated by a singular third-order differential expression and separated and coupled boundary conditions. In particular, we consider that the minimal symmetric operator generated by the third-order differential expression has the deficiency indices (3,3). We investigate same spectral properties related with these problems, and we introduce a method to find the resolvent operator.  相似文献

This paper is an advanced extension of the work reported in (Nonlinear Anal. 2005; 63 :1467–1473). A transport equation that describes the propagation of a substance in a moving fluid or gas is considered. The equation contains the transient, convection, and diffusion terms. The problem is formulated in a bounded domain provided with an inlet and an outlet for the fluid or gas flow. The crucial point of the problem setting is a hysteresis‐type condition posed on an active part of the boundary. This condition reflects the nondecreasing accumulation with saturation of the transported substance at each point of the active boundary part. We prove the existence and uniqueness of solutions to this problem, study the regularity properties of solutions, and perform numerical simulations that clarify the behavior of the model. Comparing with the results of (Nonlinear Anal. 2005; 63 :1467–1473), the advancement of this work consists in accounting for the motion of the fluid or gas and posing inlet and outlet boundary conditions. We study a class of degenerate elliptic second order differential operators acting on some polynomial weighted function spaces on [0,+[. We show that these operators are the generators of C 0-semigroups of positive operators which, in turn, are the transition semigroups associated with right-continuous normal Markov processes with state space [0,+]. Approximation and qualitative properties of both the semigroups and the Markov processes are investigated as well. Most of the results of the paper depend on a representation of the semigroups we give in terms of powers of particular positive operators of discrete type we introduced and studied in a previous paper.  相似文献

The choice of a differential diffusion operator with discontinuous coefficients that corresponds to a finite flow velocity and a finite concentration is substantiated. For the equation with a uniformly elliptic operator and a nonzero diffusion coefficient, conditions are established for the existence and uniqueness of a solution to the corresponding Cauchy problem. For the diffusion equation with degeneration on a half-line, it is proved that the Cauchy problem with an arbitrary initial condition has a unique solution if and only if there is no flux from the degeneration domain to the ellipticity domain of the operator. Under this condition, a sequence of solutions to regularized problems is proved to converge uniformly to the solution of the degenerate problem in L 1(R) on each interval.  相似文献

It is well-known that the idea of transferring boundary conditions offers a universal and, in addition, elementary means how to investigate almost all methods for solving boundary value problems for ordinary differential equations. The aim of this paper is to show that the same approach works also for discrete problems, i.e., for difference equations. Moreover, it will be found out that some results of this kind may be obtained also for some particular two-dimensional problems.  相似文献

We consider the problem of simultaneously determining coefficients of a second order nonlinear parabolic equation and a solution to this equation. The unknown coefficients occur in the main part and in the nonlinear summand as well. The overdetermination conditions are conditions of the Dirichlet type on a family of planes of arbitrary dimension. It is demonstrated that the problem in question is solvable locally in time in Hölder spaces. When the unknown functions enter the right-hand side and the equation is linear, the theorem of global unique existence (in time) is established.  相似文献

This paper is a survey for development of linear distributed parameter system. At first we point out some questions existing in current study of control theory for the Lp linear system with an unbounded control operator and an unbounded observation operator, such as stabilization problem and observer theory that are closely relevant to state feedback operator. After then we survey briefly some results on relevant problems that are related to solvability of linear differential equations in general Banach space and semigroup perturbations. As a principle, we propose a concept of admissible state feedback operator for system (A, B). Finally we give an existence result of admissible state feedback operators, including semigroup generation and the equivalent conditions of admissibility of state feedback operators, for an Lp well-posed system.  相似文献

Initial-boundary value problems formulated in spatially unbounded domains can be sometimes reduced to problems in their bounded subdomains by using the so-called open boundary conditions. These conditions are set on the surface separating the subdomain from the rest of the domain. One of the approaches to obtaining such a kind of conditions is based on an approximation of the kernels of the time convolution operators in the relations connecting the exact solution of the original problem and its derivatives on the open boundary. In this case, it is possible to considerably reduce the requirements for system resources required to solve numerically for a wide range of physical and engineering problems. Estimates of the perturbations of the exact solution due to the approximate conditions are obtained for a model problem with one space variable.  相似文献

We investigate the large time behavior of solutions to the spatially homogeneous linear Boltzmann equation from a semigroup viewpoint. Our analysis is performed in some (weighted) L1‐spaces. We deal with both the cases of hard and soft potentials (with angular cut‐off). For hard potentials, we provide a new proof of the fact that, in weighted L1‐spaces with exponential or algebraic weights, the solutions converge exponentially fast towards equilibrium. Our approach uses weak‐compactness arguments combined with recent results of the second author on positive semigroups in L1‐spaces. For soft potentials, in L1‐spaces, we exploit the convergence to ergodic projection for perturbed substochastic semigroup to show that, for very general initial datum, solutions to the linear Boltzmann equation converges to equilibrium in large time. Moreover, for a large class of initial data, we also prove that the convergence rate is at least algebraic. Notice that, for soft potentials, no exponential rate of convergence is expected because of the absence of spectral gap.  相似文献

The main results here are the generalization of Jiang [Daqing Jiang, On the existence of positive solutions to second order periodic BVPs, Acta Math. We investigate the spectral properties of the time‐dependent linear transport equation with bounce‐back boundary conditions. A fine analysis of the spectrum of the streaming operator is given and the explicit expression of the strongly continuous streaming semigroup is derived. Next, making use of a recent result from Sbihi (J. Evol. Equations 2007; 7 :689–711), we prove, via a compactness argument, that the essential spectrum of the transport semigroup and that of the streaming semigroup coincide on all Lp‐spaces with 1<p<∞.
