New green self-frequency-doubling diode-pumped Nd:Ca4GdO(BO3)3 laser   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
3+ :Ca4GdO(BO3)3 (Nd:GdCOB). 21 mW of green cw laser emission for an absorbed pump power of 820 mW were achieved under laser diode-pumping. 64 mW of green cw laser output were obtained with 1 W of absorbed pump power under titanium-sapphire pumping. Its availability in large-size crystals with good optical quality makes Nd:GdCOB a true challenger to the best SFD laser crystal reported so far: Nd:YAl3(BO3)4 (Nd:YAB or NYAB). In this paper we show how the quantum efficiency of Nd3+-doped laser crystals can be measured by means of a very simple method. This method is based on a multiwavelength study of pump-induced crystal heating, and its major advantage is the simplicity of the required experimental set-up. It has been used to determine the quantum efficiency of the main infrared laser channel (4 F 3/2?4 I 11/2) of the Nd3+:Gd2(MoO4)3 non-linear laser crystal. The value obtained for the quantum efficiency (φ=0.97) is in good agreement with that obtained from the Judd–Ofelt formalism (φ=0.95).  We present measurements of the net-induced gain on the 5d–4f transition at 186 nm in LiYF4 : Nd3+ optically pumped by radiation from a molecular fluorine laser. It is found that for LiYF4 : Nd3+, one of a series of potential continuously tunable VUV lasers, relatively strong excited-state absorption results in net-induced loss. 4 crystals under low-power laser diode end-pumping. Output power dependencies on the pump power and the pump wavelength of these diode-pumped solid state lasers were investigated. The high Nd3+ concentration of the Nd:KGW samples used in our measurements as well as up-conversion and exited-state absorption processes in Nd:KGW cause the reduced laser output power dependence on the pump wavelength which was experimentally observed. At pump levels up to 270 mW a slope efficiency of ηsl≈46% was reached for the Nd:KGW laser. Nd:KGW microchip laser operation with a slope efficiency of ηsl≈50% was demonstrated. The characteristics of intracavity second-harmonic generation (SHG) at 1.06 μm in GdCa4O(BO3)3 (GdCOB) crystals cut for different type I phase-matching (PM) directions of (θ,φ)=(66.8°, 132.3°); (19.4°, 0°); (90°, 46°) have been investigated. It was found that the intracavity SHG was significantly efficient in the PM direction of (66.8°, 132.3°), and that the intrinsic lower effective nonlinear coefficient (deff) was responsible for the less-efficient SHG in the other two directions. A maximum CW SHG output power of 2.81 W was obtained with an optical conversion efficiency of 18.7%, while the corresponding effective intracavity SHG efficiency was determined to be 41.3%. The intracavity SHG efficiency of GdCOB has been found to reach two-thirds of that obtained with type II phase-matching KTiOPO4 (KTP). 1-x NdyLax-yMgxAl12-xO19) is a new material, tunable in the 1–1.1 μm band. We present the first results of pulsed laser emission of this crystal under flashlamp pumping. We obtain a slope efficiency of 3.3% with a maximum average power of 40 W at 40 Hz in free-lasing regime. Nd:Cr codoping of ASL is also tested, but with much lower efficiency. Intracavity sum-frequency mixing of 1.06 μm and 532 nm in YCa4O(BO3)3 (YCOB) crystals cut for different type-I phase-matching directions of (θ,ϕ)=(106°,77.2°), (111°, 79.6°) and (65°, 82.8°) was investigated in a compact diode-end-pumped acousto-optical Q-switched Nd:YVO4/KTP laser formed with a three-mirror folded resonator. The maximum 355-nm average output power of 124 mW was obtained in the phase-matching direction of (106°, 77.2°) with a pump-to-ultraviolet conversion efficiency of 3.3% at the repetition frequency of 20 kHz. A dual-wavelength continuous wave (cw) diode-end-pumped Nd:YVO4 laser that generates simultaneous laser action at the wavelengths 1064 nm and 1342 nm is demonstrated. The optimum oscillation condition for the simultaneous dual-wavelength operation in a diode-end-pumped solid-state laser has been derived. The relationship between the laser cavity and the output stability is also studied. Experimental results show that the stability of the output power at the two wavelengths could be enhanced by use of a three-mirror cavity. An analytical model is developed to study the influence of the Auger upconversion process on the thermal loading under lasing and nonlasing conditions. With the developed model, Auger upconversion rates can be determined by comparing theoretical calculations with experimental results for the ratio of the thermal loading under lasing and nonlasing conditions. The upconversion rates obtained with the present method are compared with the results measured from the fluorescence decay experiment. We demonstrate for the first time laser operation with the monoclinic stoichiometric crystal KYb(WO4)2 (hereafter KYbW). Lasing on the 2 F 5/2 ?2 F 7/2 transition of Yb3+ at room temperature has been achieved near 1074 nm with >41% slope efficiency (>26% maximum conversion efficiency) using a 0.5-mm-thick plate of KYbW. This new laser material holds great promise for diode-pumped high-power lasers, thin-disk and waveguide designs as well as for ultrashort (ps/fs) pulse laser systems. The lasing properties of organic compounds in a polymethylmethacrylate matrix pumped by a copper vapor laser are studied. The results demonstrate that the transverse pumping scheme of solid-state laser-active media with the copper vapor laser is promising compared to the longitudinal pumping scheme from the viewpoint of the lifetime parameters. By using holographic shear interferometry, we have measured the thermal lens in a diode-pumped Yb:YAB crystal, under lasing and non-lasing conditions, as a function of absorbed power. From these purely optical measurements we estimate the fractional thermal loading and the thermal conductivity of Yb:YAB. Knowledge of these thermal parameters is essential for the optimisation of Yb:YAB laser cavity designs. A comparative study of Nd:KGW and Nd:YAG laser crystals pumped by flashlamp has been conducted near 1.3 μm with output energy up to 1 J and at a repetition rate up to 50 Hz. An average power of 23 W for KGW in free-running mode was achieved with a total efficiency better than 2.8 % for the Nd:KGW and 1.8 % for the Nd:YAG. The laser performance of the Nd:KGW crystal has been studied in a master oscillator and power amplifier configuration (MOPA). Several crystals from two different producers were investigated for the oscillator and the amplifier. A maximum single-pass gain of 25 was observed in free-running and Q-switched mode. We obtained a maximum output amplified energy of 400 mJ at 30 Hz (with a pulse duration of 10 to 30 ns) with a divergence less than 3 mrad. We also studied the limitations of this configuration due to the very high gain of the Nd:KGW crystal. 3+ ions in CaWO4, LaSc3(BO3)4, and YLiF4 crystals are presented. The spectra were measured by a continuous-wave pump and probe technique. It is shown that ESA is a negligible loss mechanism in cw lasers emitting at 1.06 μm. We have generated TEM0,l * modes in an end-pumped microchip laser using a standard fiber-coupled diode. A rich set of dynamic behaviors, such as periodic and quasi-periodic self-modulation, chaotic pulsing and frequency locking was observed in the generated TEM0,l * modes. Experimental results confirm the theoretical predictions that the locking occurs as a subcritical bifurcation and that a region of coexisting locked and unlocked states exists. A diode-pumped Yb3+, Er3+:YVO4 laser was Q-switched by the rotating prism method and record performance obtained. Pulse energies of up to 0.2 mJ and pulse durations as short as 60 ns were demonstrated. A model based on a system of rate equations is also described and used to explain the observed behaviour.  相似文献

We reported the Ho:YAP laser pumped by the Tm:YAP laser. The Ho:YAP laser maximum output power was 4.91 W when the incident power was 10.1 W with the threshold of 2.63 W. The slope efficiency was 63.7%, corresponding to an optical-to-optical efficiency of 48.6%. The Ho:YAP output wavelength was centered at 2118.2 nm with bandwidth of about 1 nm. We estimate the beam quality to be M2 = 1.29.  相似文献
