The Charney-Hasegawa-Mima equation applies to a broad variety of hydrodynamic systems ranging from the large-scale planetary circulations to small-scale processes in magnetically confined plasma. This equation harbors flow regimes that have not yet been fully understood. One of those is the recently discovered regime of zonostrophic turbulence emerging in the case of small-scale forced, barotropic two-dimensional turbulence on the surface of a rotating sphere or in its beta-plane approximation. The commingling of strong nonlinearity, strong anisotropy and Rossby waves underlying this regime is highlighted by the emergence of stable systems of alternating zonal jets and a new class of nonlinear waves, or zonons. This Letter elucidates the physics of the zonons and their relation to the large-scale coherent structures.  相似文献

Thomson scattering is used to measure Langmuir waves (LW) driven by stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) in a diffraction limited laser focal spot. For SRS at wave numbers klambda(D) less similar 0.29, where k is the LW number and lambda(D) is the Debye length, multiple waves are detected and are attributed to the Langmuir decay instability (LDI) driven by the primary LW. At klambda(D) greater similar 0.29, a single wave, frequency-broadened spectrum is observed. The transition from the fluid to the kinetic regime is qualitatively consistent with particle-in-cell simulations and crossing of the LDI amplitude threshold above that for LW self-focusing.  相似文献

The modulational interaction of finite-amplitude high-frequency electrostatic waves propagating at an arbitrary angle to an external magnetic field with slow plasma motion is considered. A nonlocal theory of stimulated Raman backscattering (BSRS) parametric instability of a large amplitude electromagnetic (EM) mode in a strongly magnetized plasma e.g., one encountered in a plasma filled backward wave oscillator, is reported. The EM mode is unstable to parametric instability in a magnetized plasma and decays into a Trivelpiece-Gould (TG) mode and a sideband EM mode. The growth rate of instability (Γ) scales proportional to three-fourth power of plasma density. For a typical BWO the growth rate is ∼108 s-1  相似文献

Nonlinear theory of electrostatic baryonic waves in ambiplasma   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
A collisionless nonmagnetized ambiplasma consisting of Maxwellian gases of protons, antiprotons, electrons, and positrons is considered. The dispersion relation for electrostatic baryonic waves is derived and analyzed and exact expressions for the linear wave phase velocities are obtained. Two types of such waves are shown to be possible in ambiplasma: acoustic and plasma ones. Analysis of the dispersion relation has allowed the ranges of parameters in which nonlinear solutions should be sought in the form of solitons to be found. A nonlinear theory of baryonic waves is developed and used to obtain and analyze the exact solution to the basic equations. The analysis is performed by the method of a fictitious potential. The ranges of phase velocities of periodic baryonic waves and soliton velocities (Mach numbers) are determined. It is shown that in the plasma under consideration, these ranges do not overlap and that the soliton velocity cannot be lower than the linear velocity of the corresponding wave. The profiles of physical quantities in a periodic wave and a soliton (wave scores) are plotted.  相似文献

The nonlinear electrostatic drift waves are studied using quantum hydrodynamic model in dusty quantum magnetoplasmas. The dissipative effects due to collisions between ions and dust particles have also been taken into account. The Korteweg-de Vries Burgers (KdVB) like equation is derived and analytical solution is obtained using tanh method. The limiting cases of KdV type solitary waves, Burger type monotonic shock waves and oscillatory shock solutions are also presented. It is found that both hump and dip type solitary structures are possible in quantum dusty plasmas. However, amplitude and width of the nonlinear structure depend on the dust charge polarity and its concentration in electron-ion quantum plasmas. The monotonic shock like structure is independent of the quantum parameter. It is found that shock strength is increased in the presence of positively charged particles in comparison with negatively charged dust particles. The oscillatory shock structures are also obtained and it is found that change in dust charge polarity only shifts the phase of the oscillatory shock in plasmas. The autoresonant behavior of Langmuir waves excited by stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) is clearly identified in particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations in an inhomogeneous plasma. As previously shown via a 3-wave coupling model [T. Chapman et al., Phys. Plasmas 17, 122317 (2010)], weakly kinetic effects such as trapping can be described via an amplitude-dependent frequency shift that compensates the dephasing of the resonance of SRS due to the inhomogeneity. The autoresonance (AR) leads to phase locking and to growth of the Langmuir wave beyond the spatial amplification expected from Rosenbluth's model in an inhomogeneous profile [M. N. Rosenbluth, Phys. Rev. Lett. 29, 565 (1972)]. Results from PIC simulations and from a 3-wave coupling code show very good agreement, leading to the conclusion that AR arises even beyond the so-called weakly kinetic regime.  相似文献

Two-photon induced stimulated Raman scattering has been observed for the first time. The observations have been made in cesium vapor. In the process cesium atoms are excited from the 6S32 ground state to the 6P32 excited state through the absorption of two laser photons at 1.064 μm and the emission of one scattered photon at 1.416 μm. The spectrum of the scattered light reveals the optical Stark shifts of the initial and final levels.  相似文献

A scheme of nonlinear optical four-wave mixing of two counterpropagating laser beams on the surface of a semiconductor is proposed and analyzed. It is shown that the density modulation of the electron-hole plasma current carriers in the light-induced grating manifests itself in the probe beam depolarization signal after the reflection from the surface, which is sensitive to the state of the surface and presence of complex molecules on it.  相似文献

A new nonlinear scattering effect is described which is induced by the simultaneous action of ordinary and extraordinary waves impigning on a BaTiO3 crystal in the plane perpendicular to the c-axis. The scattered light of ordinary polarization propagates along a circular cone and the light intensity on this cone is nonuniform. We present a model that describes the experimental observations rather well, including phase matching conditions and the unusual intensity distribution of the scattered light.  相似文献

利用二维粒子模拟程序EPOCH验证了超快电子束探针诊断受激拉曼散射产生的静电波的可行性。结果表明,电子束探针穿过静电波电场后会在电子束探针的横向上产生密度调制,密度调制呈周期性分布且沿静电波的传播方向移动,密度调制的波数对应静电波的波数且移动速度对应静电波的相速度,因此特定条件下可用于反推电子的温度、密度等信息。在诊断静电波的过程中,电子束探针的束长必须小于静电波的波长或者诊断设备的曝光时间必须小于静电波的周期。本研究提供了一种新型的直接诊断静电波和电子温度、密度的方法,对于推动受激拉曼散射等激光等离子体不稳定性的实验研究具有重要意义。  相似文献
