Electron spin exchange rate constants have been measured by ESR spectroscopy for a nitroxide spin probe in a number of solvents, including water. The apparent collision rate constants (k c ) calculated from the spin exchange rate constants showed marked deviations from the Smoluchowsky equation (k c η=const), which were greatest in solvents of lowest viscosity. These effects are attributed to inefficiency of the spin exchange process. Self-diffusion coefficients (D) were measured for diamagnetic analogs of the nitroxide spin probe in similar solvent systems by pulsed field gradient NMR spectroscopy. TheD values gave reasonable agreement when corrected for viscosity (Dη=const). Collision rate constants calculated fromD were in good agreement with those measured by ESR in solvents of high viscosity. Thek c value for the spin probe in water was significantly lower than that in isoviscous organic solvents. This effect is discussed in terms of a hydrophobic hydration shell for the spin probe which acts as an additional barrier to collision.  相似文献

Four‐component relativistic calculations of 77Se–13C spin–spin coupling constants have been performed in the series of selenium heterocycles and their parent open‐chain selenides. It has been found that relativistic effects play an essential role in the selenium–carbon coupling mechanism and could result in a contribution of as much as 15–25% of the total values of the one‐bond selenium–carbon spin‐spin coupling constants. In the overall contribution of the relativistic effects to the total values of 1J(Se,C), the scalar relativistic corrections (negative in sign) by far dominate over the spin‐orbit ones (positive in sign), the latter being of less than 5%, as compared to the former (ca 20%). A combination of nonrelativistic second‐order polarization propagator approach (CC2) with the four‐component relativistic density functional theory scheme is recommended as a versatile tool for the calculation of 1J(Se,C). Solvent effects in the values of 1J(Se,C) calculated within the polarizable continuum model for the solvents with different dielectric constants (ε 2.2–78.4) are next to negligible decreasing negative 1J(Se,C) in absolute value by only about 1 Hz. The use of the locally dense basis set approach applied herewith for the calculation of 77Se–13C spin‐spin coupling constants is fully justified resulting in a dramatic decrease in computational cost with only 0.1–0.2‐Hz loss of accuracy. The local spin formalism ( 3 ) for computing expectation values 〈SA · SB〉 that appear in the Heisenberg spin model has been extended to semiempirical single determinant wave functions. An alternative derivation of expectation values in restricted and unrestricted cases is given that takes advantage of the zero differential overlap (ZDO) approximation. A formal connection between single determinant wave functions (which are not in general spin eigenfunctions) and the Heisenberg spin model was established by demonstrating that energies of single determinants that are eigenfunctions of the local spin operators with eigenvalues corresponding to high‐spin radical centers are given by the same Heisenberg coupling constants {JAB} that describe the true spin states of the system. Unrestricted single determinant wave functions for transition metal complexes are good approximations of local spin eigenfunctions when the metal d orbitals are local in character and all unpaired electrons on each metal have the same spin (although spins on different metals might be reversed). Good approximations of the coupling constants can then be extracted from local spin expectation values 〈SA · SB〉 energies of the single determinant wave functions. Once the coupling constants are obtained, diagonalization of the Heisenberg spin Hamiltonian provides predictions of the energies and compositions of the spin states. A computational method is presented for obtaining coupling constants and spin‐state energies in this way for polynuclear transition metal complexes using the intermediate neglect of differential overlap Hamiltonian parameterized for optical spectroscopy (INDO/S) in the ZINDO program. This method is referred to as ZILSH, derived from ZINDO, Davidson's local spin formalism, and the Heisenberg spin model. Coupling constants and spin ground states obtained for 10 iron complexes containing from 2 to 6 metals are found to agree well with experimental results in most cases. In the case of the complex [Fe6O3(OAc)9(OEt)2(bpy)2]+, a priori predictions of the coupling constants yield a ground‐state spin of zero, in agreement with variable‐temperature magnetization data, and corroborate spin alignments proposed earlier on the basis of structural considerations. This demonstrates the potential of the ZILSH method to aid in understanding magnetic interactions in polynuclear transition metal complexes. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This work studies the ability of the two‐center local spin quantities, provided by the partitioning of the expectation value of the spin‐squared operator corresponding to N‐electron systems, for determining spin‐exchange coupling constants within the Heisenberg spin Hamiltonian model. The spin‐exchange parameters, which characterize this Hamiltonian for a determined system, have been evaluated in the HeH2 aggregate and in several clusters (n = 2, 3, 4) with different geometrical arrangements, using internuclear distances larger than the equilibrium ones (beyond the bonding regions). The results found have been analyzed and compared with those arising from other approaches, showing the feasibility of our methodology. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

We have investigated, by means of density functional theory protocols, the one-bond 1J(15N─19F) spin–spin coupling constants in a series of fluorinating reagents, containing the N─F bond, recently studied experimentally. The results of the calculations show a very good linear relationship with the experimental values, even though only the M06-2X(PCM)/pcJ-2//B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) level affords a very low mean absolute error. The calculations allow to analyze the various molecular orbitals contributions to the J coupling and to rationalize the observed positive sign, corresponding to a negative sign of the reduced spin–pin coupling constant K(N─F). Moreover, of the four Ramsey contributions, only the diamagnetic spin orbit is negligible, whereas the paramagnetic spin orbit and spin dipole terms decrease the magnitude of the Fermi contact (FC) term by an amount that goes from a minimum of 35% up to more than 60% of the FC term itself. Several effects have been investigated, namely, the contribution of the long-range solvent reaction field, relativistic corrections, and conformational and vibrational effects.  相似文献

A spherical Gaussian nuclear charge distribution model has been implemented for spin‐free (scalar) and two‐component (spin–orbit) relativistic density functional calculations of indirect NMR nuclear spin–spin coupling (J‐coupling) constants. The finite nuclear volume effects on the hyperfine integrals are quite pronounced and as a consequence they noticeably alter coupling constants involving heavy NMR nuclei such as W, Pt, Hg, Tl, and Pb. Typically, the isotropic J‐couplings are reduced in magnitude by about 10 to 15 % for couplings between one of the heaviest NMR nuclei and a light atomic ligand, and even more so for couplings between two heavy atoms. For a subset of the systems studied, viz. the Hg atom, Hg22+, and Tl? X where X=Br, I, the basis set convergence of the hyperfine integrals and the coupling constants was monitored. For the Hg atom, numerical and basis set calculations of the electron density and the 1s and 6s orbital hyperfine integrals are directly compared. The coupling anisotropies of TlBr and TlI increase by about 2 % due to finite‐nucleus effects.  相似文献

We report the spin dynamic properties of non-substituted ferrocenium complexes. Ferrocenium shows a field-induced single-molecule magnet behaviour in DMF solution while cobaltocene lacks slow spin relaxation neither in powder nor in solution. Multireference quantum mechanical calculations give a non-Aufbau orbital occupation for ferrocenium with small first excitation energy that agrees with the relatively large measured magnetic anisotropy for a transition metal S=1/2 system. The analysis of the spin relaxation shows an important participation of quantum tunnelling, Raman, direct and local-mode mechanisms which depend on temperature and the external field conditions. The calculation of spin-phonon coupling constants for the vibrational modes shows that the first vibrational mode, despite having a low spin-phonon constant, is the most efficient process for the spin relaxation at low temperatures. In such conditions, vibrational modes with higher spin-phonon coupling constants are not populated. Additionally, the vibrational energy of this first mode is in excellent agreement with the experimental fitted value obtained from the local-mode mechanism.  相似文献

The pulse sequence INEPT was used to obtain proton-coupled 15N-NMR spectra in natural isotope abundance for enamines substituted in 2-position with electron-with-drawing groups. The chemical shifts and coupling constants are discussed in terms of their relationship to structural features such as multiple N-alkyl substitution, double-bond configuration, H-bonding, N-lone-pair delocalization within the conjugated system, and steric effects. It is concluded that 15N chemical shifts are a sensitive probe for local structural modifications at the N-atom and conformational changes in a remote part of a conjugated molecule, while one-bond N,H-coupling essentially reflects N-hybridization and subtle local geometric distortions. Stereospecific three-bond N,H spin coupling to olefinic protons (4.0 ± 0.2 Hz) has been found a characteristic feature of (Z)-isomers in all investigated compounds, whereas two-bond coupling to olefinic protons (2J(N,H) = 0.5 to 5 Hz) is observed in (E)-isomers. The sensitivity to solvents and steric properties of remote substituents renders geminal coupling a useful probe for studying electronic effects in the C? N bond.  相似文献

The possibilities of electron spin resonance (ESR) and electron spin resonance imaging (ESRI) for investigating the properties of the spin probes TEMPO and TEMPOL in two-phase systems have been examined in the systems water/n-octanol, Miglyol/Miglyol, and Precirol/Miglyol. Phases and regions of the phase boundary could be mapped successfully by means of the isotropic hyperfine coupling constants, and, moreover, the quantification of rotational and lateral diffusion of the spin probes was possible. For the quantitative treatment of the micropolarity, a simplified empirical model was established on the basis of the Nernst distribution and the experimentally determined isotropic hyperfine coupling constants. The model does not only describe the summarized micropolarities of coexisting phases, but also the region of the phase boundary, where solvent molecules of different polarities and tendencies to form hydrogen bonds compete to interact with the NO group of the spin probe.  相似文献

Long‐lived states (LLS) are relaxation‐favored spin population distributions of J‐coupled magnetic nuclei. LLS were measured, along with classical 1H and 15N relaxation rate constants, in amino acids of the N‐terminal Unique domain of the c‐Src kinase, which is disordered in vitro under physiological conditions. The relaxation rates of LLS can probe motions and interactions in biomolecules. LLS of the aliphatic protons of glycines, with lifetimes approximately four times longer than their spin–lattice relaxation times, are reported for the first time in an intrinsically disordered protein domain. LLS relaxation experiments were integrated with 2D spectroscopy methods, further adapting them for studies on proteins. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The chemical shifts and the direct and indirect spin–spin coupling constants of HCN have been measured in various liquid crystal solvents. The sign of the indirect coupling constant J(15NH) is found to be negative. The 13C shift anisotropy is 334±20 ppm. The molecular structure apparently varies considerably with the solvent used. These solvent effects, which can be attributed to a correlation between vibration and rotation of the molecule, are corrected.  相似文献

Pulsed electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) dipolar spectroscopy (PDS) offers several methods for measuring dipolar coupling constants and thus the distance between electron spin centers. Up to now, PDS measurements have been mostly applied to spin centers whose g-anisotropies are moderate and therefore have a negligible effect on the dipolar coupling constants. In contrast, spin centers with large g-anisotropy yield dipolar coupling constants that depend on the g-values. In this case, the usual methods of extracting distances from the raw PDS data cannot be applied. Here, the effect of the g-anisotropy on PDS data is studied in detail on the example of the low-spin Fe3+ ion. First, this effect is described theoretically, using the work of Bedilo and Maryasov (Appl. Magn. Reson. 2006 , 30, 683–702) as a basis. Then, two known Fe3+/nitroxide compounds and one new Fe3+/trityl compound were synthesized and PDS measurements were carried out on them using a method called relaxation induced dipolar modulation enhancement (RIDME). Based on the theoretical results, a RIDME data analysis procedure was developed, which facilitated the extraction of the inter-spin distance and the orientation of the inter-spin vector relative to the Fe3+ g-tensor frame from the RIDME data. The accuracy of the determined distances and orientations was confirmed by comparison with MD simulations. This method can thus be applied to the highly relevant class of metalloproteins with, for example, low-spin Fe3+ ions.  相似文献

The calculations of geminal and vicinal 29Si–1H spin–spin coupling constants across double bond in 15 alkenylmethylsilanes and alkenylchlorosilanes were carried out at the second‐order polarization propagator approach level in a good agreement with experiment. Two structural trends, namely, (i) the geometry of the coupling pathway and (ii) the effect of the electrowithdrawing substituent, have been interpreted in terms of the natural J‐coupling analysis within the framework of the natural bond orbital approach. Thus, the marked difference between cisoidal and transoidal 29Si–1H spin–spin coupling constants across double bond was accounted for the delocalization contributions including bonding and antibonding Si–C and C–H orbitals, whereas the chlorine effect was explained in terms of the steric contributions including bonding Si–Cl orbitals. Theoretical energy‐based conformational analysis of bis(2‐phenethyl)vinylphosphine and related phosphine oxide, sulfide and selenide synthesized from available secondary phosphine chalcogenides and vinyl sulfoxides is performed at the MP2/6‐311G** level to study stereochemical behavior of their 31P–1H spin–spin coupling constants measured experimentally and calculated at different levels of theory. All four title compounds are shown to exist in the equilibrium mixture of two conformers: major planar s‐cis and minor orthogonal ones, while 31P–1 H spin–spin coupling constants under study are found to demonstrate marked stereochemical dependences with respect to the geometry of the coupling pathways, and to the internal rotation of the vinyl group around the P(X)‐C bonds (X = LP, O, S and Se), opening a new guide in the conformational studies of unsaturated phosphines and phosphine chalcogenides. Stereochemical structure of nine Z‐2‐(vinylsulfanyl)ethenylselanyl organyl sulfides has been investigated by means of experimental measurements and second‐order polarization propagator approach calculations of their 1H–1H, 13C–1H, and 77Se–1H spin–spin coupling constants together with a theoretical conformational analysis performed at the MP2/6‐311G** level. All nine compounds were shown to adopt the preferable skewed s‐cis conformation of their terminal vinylsulfanyl group, whereas the favorable rotational conformations with respect to the internal rotations around the C–S and C–Se bonds of the internal ethenyl group are both skewed s‐trans. Stereochemical trends of 77Se–1H spin–spin coupling constants originating in the geometry of their coupling pathways and the selenium lone pair effect were rationalized in terms of the natural J‐coupling analysis within the framework of the natural bond orbital approach. Unambiguous resonance assignments of diastereotopic CH2 protons in the anomeric side chain of nine alkyl‐ and aralkylselenoglycosides have been carried out on the basis of experimental CPMG‐HSQMBC measurements and theoretical second order polarization propagator approach (SOPPA) calculations of geminal 77Se‐1H spin‐spin coupling constants involving diastereotopic pro‐R and pro‐S protons. Theoretical conformational analyses have been performed at the MP2/6‐311G** level. The conformational space of each of the selenoglycosides under study could be adequately described as a mixture of six interconverting conformers with the molar fractions depending on the nature of the side chain substituent at the selenium atom. The good agreement observed between measured and the weighted conformational averaged values of the calculated coupling constants provides a basis for reliable diastereotopic assignments in this type of carbohydrate structures. Abstract

The influence of different heteroaryl and functionalized aryl substituents on the electron-donating ability and basicity of the phosphorus atoms in heteroaryl phosphines and diphosphines has been determined by the use of the direct 1JPSe coupling constants of the corresponding selenides. The generality of the use of 31P–77Se spin–spin coupling constants as probe for the basicity of phosphines is discussed as well as the scope and limits of this concept.

A Hoffman‐like coordination polymer with appreciable porosity and uncoordinated pyridyl groups, namely, [Fe(2,5‐bpp){Au(CN)2}2] ? x Solv (2,5‐bpp=2,5‐bis(pyrid‐4‐yl)pyridine; Solv=solvent), was synthesised and characterised. A series of fascinating spin‐crossover behaviours with abrupt, stepwise and hysteretic features were obtained by exchange with a range of protic solvents (ethanol, n‐propanol, isopropyl alcohol, sec‐butanol and isobutanol). Guest–host hydrogen‐bonding interactions involving the H‐accepting site of the framework are primarily responsible for the pronounced cooperativity of these spin‐crossover behaviours. Meanwhile, the tunable critical temperatures over a range of about 130 K are presumably attributable to a certain degree of competition between internal pressure and local electronic influences of solvents.  相似文献

We computationally design a series of azobenzene (AB)‐bridged double radicalized nucleobases, a novel kind of diradical Janus‐type nucleobases, and explore their spin coupling characteristics. Calculations prove that such diradical Janus‐bases not only normally match with their complementary bases, but also exhibit well‐defined diradical character with photo‐convertible intramolecular magnetic couplings (antiferromagnetic vs. ferromagnetic). Combination of four radical nucleobases (rG, rA, rC, rT) and photoswitch AB can yield 10 diradical Janus‐bases with different magnetic characteristics in which AB functions a bridge to mediate the spin coupling between two radical bases. The trans‐form supports mild antiferromagnetic couplings with the spin coupling constants (J) ranging from −153.6 cm−1 to −50.91 cm−1 while the cis‐form has weak magnetic couplings with ferromagnetic (0.22–8.50 cm−1) for most of them or antiferromagnetic (−0.77, −1.73, −3.30 cm−1) properties for only three. Further structural examination and frontier molecular orbital analyses indicate that the extended π conjugation for better spin polarization provides an effective through‐π‐bond pathway to mediate the spin coupling in the trans conformation while nonplanarity of the cis conformation weakens the through‐bond coupling and causes a competitive through‐space pathway and as an overall result inhibits the spin coupling between two spin moieties. Meanwhile, we also find that the J values of the cis conformation vary with their angle between the radical base and its linked phenylene. Furthermore, the magnetic properties of the diradical Janus‐bases can be significantly increased by interacting with metal ions. They also maintain a good UV absorption characteristics and there is a clear redshift compared with AB. This work provides a promising strategy for the rational design of photo‐convertible Janus‐base magnets as the magnetism‐tunable DNA building blocks. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献
