A phase controlled multi-beam interference is applied to excite the doped liquid crystals. Control of the phase difference between the exciting beams allows the external control of the interference pattern inside the liquid crystal. The dynamic variation of the grating is made possible with a time-dependent phase change to derive the nonlinear refractive index as well as the responding speed of the material. The induced grating structure is numerically modelled with reorientational phase gratings in the liquid crystal, and the diffraction dynamics is found to be in good agreement between theoretical and experimental results.  相似文献

We demonstrate a single-exposure holographic fabrication of two-dimensional photonic crystal with round- cornered triangular 'atoms' arranged in a triangular lattice. Simulation results show that double absolute photonic band gaps exist in this structure. Our experimental results show that holographic lithography can be used to fabricate photonic crystals not only with various lattice structures but also with various kinds of structures of the atoms, to obtain absolute band gaps or a particular band gap structure. Furthermore, the single-exposure holographic method not only makes the fabrication process simple and convenient but also makes the structures of the atoms more perfect.  相似文献

The expansion capability of the channel number in the optical demultiplexer using two cascaded photopolymer volume gratings is reported. It could be accomplished by designing of two gratings with different spectral range. As a result of the experiment, a 0.4-nm-spaced 130-channel demultiplexer with the channel uniformity of 3.5 dB, the 3 riB-bandwidth of 0.12nm, and the channel crosstalk of-20 dB is experimentally demonstrated.  相似文献

The photochromic bacteriorhodopsin (BR) film can be used as a rewritable holographic recording medium. Due to the saturation absorption and the scattering and reflecting lights from the BR film, the grating contrast-ratio of the hologram is diminished during the hologram recording. When the intensity of the recording light is low, the influence of the saturation absorption and the scatter and reflection of BR film on the grating contrast-ratio is weak. But for the case of intense recording light, this influence is more serious. It is found that the influence of the auxiliary violet light on the holographic kinetics of diffraction efficiency is distinct under different recording intensities. At the low recording light intensity, the steady diffraction efficiency is increased and the peak diffraction efficiency is suppressed by the auxiliary violet light. But for intense recording light, the steady diffraction efficiency and the peak diffraction efficiency are both increased by the auxiliary violet light. Based on the two-state model of BR photochromism, we give a good theoretical explanation to the above phenomena.  相似文献

A new ternary photopolymer system is used in fabricating photonic crystals (PhCs) with controlled defects by combination of single-photon and two-photon photopolymerization. The former process can produce PhCs in one-step recording with a low-power (tens mW) continuous-wave laser at 532nm, while the latter can create desired defects. The preparation of the material, the optical setup and the preliminary experimental results are given. Compared with other methods, this approach is much more accessible and convenient for use of visible light and has advantages of making PhCs in a large scale quickly and economicaJly and introducing any defects exactly, especially for three-dimensional structures.  相似文献

We investigate the role of carrier mobility in holographic recording in LiNbO3 crystals. Both normal holographic recording (single wavelength, single trap) and two-center recording are considered, and the differences between the performances of the two methods are explained. We show that increasing mobility by using stoichiometric crystals or by doping with Mg does not improve sensitivity considerably, but does reduce M/# by at least one order of magnitude. Effects of recording wavelength on the recently proposed (Sasaki, 2008) three-dimensional vector holograms, in which the optical anisotropy is three-dimensionally modulated, are presented experimentally and theoretically. The polarization states of the interference light are three-dimensionally modulated due to both the polarization interference and optical anisotropy in the recording medium. These spatial distributions of the polarization states and the resulting diffraction properties in the three-dimensional vector holograms are strongly dependent on the recording wavelength. Theoretical consideration based on the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method reveals the mechanism of the optical characteristics of the three-dimensional vector holograms recorded by various kinds of light sources with different wavelengths.  相似文献

Fabrication of surface relief-type gratings in transparent dielectrics, which are hard to machine, has been achieved by a holographic technique using two infrared femtosecond (fs) pulses from a mode-locked Ti:sapphire laser. The present method can be applied for a variety of transparent dielectrics, Al2O3 (sapphire), TiO2, ZrO2, LiNbO3, SiC, ZnO, CdF2, MgO, CaF2 crystals, and SiO2 glass. It is found that the grating formation is due primarily to laser ablation processes. Planar surface relief gratings can be fabricated by colliding two fs laser pulses on the surface of substrates which move at a constant speed, synchronized with the laser repetition rate. We report on the design of a high diffraction efficiency multi-layer dielectric grating with wide incident angle and broad bandwidth for 80Ohm. The optimized grating can achieve 〉 95% diffraction efficiency in the first order at an incident angle of 5° from Littrow and a wavelength from 77Ohm to 83Ohm, with peak diffraction efieieney of 〉 99.5% at 80Ohm. The electric field distribution of the optimized multi-layer dielectric grating within the gratings ridge is 1.3 times enhancement of the incidence light, which presents potential high laser resistance ability. Because of its high-effieieney, wide incident, broad bandwidth and potential high resistance ability, the multi-layer dielectric grating should have practical application in Ti:sapphire laser systems.  相似文献

针对大角度(大于50°)衍射光学元件低成本、批量化制备的需求,提出一种基于纳米压印技术的制备方法.首先利用光学曝光技术或电子束直写技术制备衍射元件的原始母板,然后将原始母板的结构通过纳米压印过程复制到压印胶上,完成衍射光学元件的制备.由于纳米压印母板可以多次重复使用,降低了制作成本,提高了效率.用该方法制备了不同特征尺寸(最小为250nm,衍射全角为70°)的衍射光学元件,具有良好的衍射效果,实现了对高深宽比浮雕结构的高保真复制.该技术可实现从微米到纳米跨尺度兼容的衍射光学元件的高保真、低成本、批量化制备.  相似文献

We present here the realization of fast electrically switchable holographic optical elements based on electric field multiplexing of volume holograms in lithium niobate crystals. We demonstrate the electrical control of holographic lenses and holographic mirrors for fast switching of the focal length and the direction of the reconstructed light beam, respectively. The switching time in the range of few hundred microseconds has been demonstrated using this technique.  相似文献

A speckle-multiplexing scheme with enhanced angular selectivity for holographic storage is proposed. Angular selectivity in the proposed holographic storage system is theoretically and experimentally investigated. We find the effect of speckle reference wave on angular selectivity strongly depends on the techniques to perform multiplexing for holographic storage. Angular selectivity of a holographic storage system can be effectively enhanced as long as angular deviation of reading wave induces a lateral displacement of the speckle pattern on the hologram plane. When angular deviation of reading wave only induces a speckle wavefront tilt on the hologram plane, the speckle wave is not helpful to enhance the angular selectivity and the angular selectivity becomes to depend on material thickness (Bragg condition) only.  相似文献

Effects of high dielectric anisotropy compound (MLC) and oligomer molecular weight on the grating formation and electro-optical properties of transmission holographic polymer dispersed liquid crystal (HPDLC) have been studied. Addition of MLC reduced the response time and switching voltage with the increased formulation viscosity which introduced a sequence of phenomenon, i.e. slow diffusion, polymerization, phase separation, grating formation, and droplet coalescence giving small droplet size and enhanced diffraction efficiency of the film. Apparently, increase in oligomer molecular weight gave effects similar to those of increasing MLC content since both variables control droplet coalescence through different mechanisms.  相似文献

Photorefractive recording response to sinusoidal intensity pattern in photovoltaic media under different boundary conditions, namely, open-circuit, crystal-resistor-circuit, short-circuit and crystal-voltage supply-circuit, are investigated by solving steady-state Kukhtarev equations numerically. In high modulation depth m limit and when photovoltaic field becomes sufficiently large, we find that both the magnitude and imaginary part of fundamental space-charge field E1 as a function of m may transit from superlinear increment to sublinear increment for short-circuit condition. The role of photovoltaic field in holographic storage and two-wave mixing is also discussed in comparison with an earlier experimental literature [G. Cook et al., Opt. Commun. 192 (2001) 393]. We further generalize Gu et al.’s remark on photovoltaic field and dc space-charge field, which is for small m only [C. Gu et al., J. Appl. Phys. 69 (1991) 1167], to whole range of m in the limit donor density much larger than ionized donor density that the effect of photovoltaic field cannot be cancelled or considered as an externally applied field for an arbitrary non-zero m.  相似文献

Recently, Bieringer et al. [1] reported on the optical properties of liquid-crystalline side-chain polymers. These photoaddressable systems showed light-induced modulations Δn of their refractive index of up to 0.06. We present similar materials and compare them with a novel ansatz reaching birefringence levels of up to 0.2 [2]. This was achieved by donor–acceptor substitutions of the chromophores and by introducing a new type of second side chain. We discuss the different photophysical properties of the two materials under the point of view of potential applications. We have investigated the effects of the magnetic field which is applied perpendicular to the growth direction of the well on the interband absorption and on the binding energy of the excitons in an GaAs/Ga1−xAlxAs inverse parabolic quantum well (IPQW) with different widths as well as different Al concentrations at the well center. The calculations were performed within the effective mass approximation, using a variational method. We observe that IPQW structure turns into parabolic quantum well with the inversion effect of the magnetic field and the effective band gap of the system can be modified by changing Al concentration at the well center, the strength of the magnetic field and well dimensions. This case directly influences the nature of electronic and optical properties in this structure.  相似文献

Liquid crystal spatial light modulators, which are widely used as display devices for computer-generated holograms, have modulation characteristics that depend on spatial frequency. We describe a method for displaying a computer-generated hologram on a liquid crystal spatial light modulator with compensation of its spatial frequency response. Using this method, we demonstrate a binary phase grating with smaller dependence on the spatial frequency. We also demonstrate application of the display method to holographic femtosecond laser processing.  相似文献

We investigate the group velocity of light in a one-dimensional volume grating inside lithium niobate crystals doped with different impurities. The superluminal and slowdown light propagations are both observed in the crystals. The relationships between the group refractive index and the grating amplitude and phase shift are presented and discussed.  相似文献

Optical densities before bleaching and final Lin-curves of plane-wave phase holograms recorded in Agfa-Gevaert 8E75HD emulsions were determined for combinations of the AAC developer with a solvent bleach (R-9) and a (fixation-free) rehalogenating bleach (R-10). To characterize the processing, the square root of the diffraction efficiency of the processed holograms was related to the amplitude of the optical density modulation obtained at the development step. Sensitivity, linearity and dynamic range of the processes could thereby be compared directly.  相似文献
