Arrays of subwavelength dipole bow-tie apertures are designed and characterized at terahertz frequencies. For an incident terahertz field perpendicular to the longer axis of the bow tie, a strong resonance enhancement, line narrowing, and a nonmonotonic frequency shift were observed with increasing length of the tapered bow-tie arms. Such characteristic behaviors primarily originate from localized surface plasmon resonances. In addition, with a decreasing aperture size, the contribution of localized plasmons becomes prominent due to an increase in plasmonic lifetime as the terahertz pulses strongly couple with the metallic surface surrounding the bow-tie apertures.  相似文献

开口谐振环(SRRs) 结构可以激励磁谐振, 实现负的磁导率. 提出在SRRs两环间隙内引入相对交错的金属短线, 并研究了金属短线对谐振频率的影响. 结果表明: 随着金属短线数目的增多, 谐振频率显著降低, 同时金属短线的结构参数如长度、宽度及间距也会对谐振频率产生影响. 最后验证了金属短线的引入对减小器件尺寸有明显作用, 且不因介质基底的存在而受到影响. 新型磁谐振单元可为今后超材料的设计及实际应用提供新的参考. 关键词: 左手材料 开口谐振环 太赫兹 小型化  相似文献

Anomalous Bloch oscillations in arrays of coupled waveguides have been investigated using two different approaches: multiple scattering formalism and coupled-mode model. Both approaches are shown to yield identical results. Formulas for the parameters of the coupled-mode model are derived. An analytical expression for the optical beam path is obtained, and the condition for the existence of anomalous Bloch oscillations is found.  相似文献

We report the design and simulation of a dual-band perfect terahertz absorber which is composed of an electric Split-Resonance-Ring(eSRR) layer, polyimide spacer and a metal plate layer. The absorber has two near-unity absorptions near 0.502 THz and 0.942 THz and both are related to the LC resonance of the eSRR. An actively enhanced resonant transmission in a plasmonic array of subwavelength holes is demonstrated by use of terahertz time-domain spectroscopy. By connecting this two-dimensional element into an electrical circuit, tunable resonance enhancement is observed in arrays made from good and relatively poor metals. The tunable feature is attributed to the nonlinear electric response of the periodic hole array film, which is confirmed by its voltage–current behavior. This finding could lead to a unique route to active plasmonic devices, such as tunable filters, spatial modulators, and integrated terahertz optoelectronic components.  相似文献

We show that a previously reported discrepancy between simulations of superconducting Josephson junction arrays and the theoretical analysis of Ambegaokar, Halperin, Nelson, and Siggia (AHNS) [Phys. Rev. Lett. 40, 783 (1978)] is rooted in a peculiar finite-size effect under periodic boundary conditions. Our simulation results for the largest array support the power-law I-V curves predicted by AHNS. Analysis of the vortex dynamics reveals two intrinsic length scales set by the applied current, which define three size regimes with distinctive I-V characteristics.  相似文献

Colloidal spheres localized in an array of harmonic wells form a thermally excited, viscously damped dynamical system capable of supporting propagating elastic waves. Experimentally realized with micrometer-scale polystyrene spheres localized in a line of holographic optical traps, the hydrodynamically coupled array's behavior is quantitatively explained by a model based on the Oseen superposition approximation. The spheres' purely dissipative coupling is predicted to mediate a crossover to a regime of underdamped propagating elastic waves with uniformly negative group velocities that has yet to be verified experimentally.  相似文献

A face-to-face system of double-layer three-dimensional arrays of H-shaped plasmonic crystals is proposed, and its transmission and filtering properties are investigated in the terahertz regime. Simulation results show that our design has excellent filtering properties. It has an ultra-wide bandgap and passband with steep band-edges, and the transmittance of the passband and the forbidden band are very close to I and 0, respectively. As the distance between the two face-to-face plates increases, the resonance frequency exhibits a gradual blueshift from 0.88 THz to 1.30 THz. Therefore, we can dynamically control the bandwidths of bandgap and passband by adding a piezoelectric ceramic plate between the two crystal plates. Furthermore, the dispersion relations of modes and electric field distributions are presented to analyze the generation mechanisms of bandgaps and to explain the location of bandgaps and the frequency shift phenomenon. Due to the fact that our design can provide many resonant modes, the bandwidth of the bandgaps can be greatly broadened. This paper can serve as a valuable reference for the design of terahertz functional devices and three-dimensional terahertz metamaterials.  相似文献

The anomalous transmission through one-dimensional lamellar metallic gratings was investigated in terahertz (THz) regime. The extraordinary optical transmission (EOT) is identified to originate from two possible ways: coupling of incident light with waveguide resonances and coupling of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) at the upper and lower interfaces of metal grating. The dual effects of SPPs have been clarified in this study: (i) the excitation of SPP modes at each individual interface results in the weakness of the THz wave transmission; and (ii) the coupling of SPP modes at two interfaces of metal grating is attributed to enhancement of THz wave transmission. The enhanced transmission is dominated by the coupling of incident light with transverse waveguide resonances. Numerical simulation based on finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) agrees well with experimental results.  相似文献

Metamaterial absorbers have attracted considerable attention for applications in the terahertz range. In this Letter, we report the design, fabrication, and characterization of a terahertz dual band metamaterial absorber that shows two distinct absorption peaks with high absorption. By manipulating the periodic patterned structures as well as the dielectric layer thickness of the metal-dielectric-metal structure, significantly high absorption can be obtained at specific resonance frequencies. Finite-difference time-domain modeling is used to design the structure of the absorber. The fabricated devices have been characterized using a Fourier transform IR spectrometer. The experimental results show two distinct absorption peaks at 2.7 and 5.2?THz, which are in good agreement with the simulation. The absorption magnitudes at 2.7 and 5.2?THz are 0.68 and 0.74, respectively.  相似文献

We study surface-plasmon-enhanced terahertz transmission through subwavelength metallic hole arrays of sub-skin-depth thickness. Dynamic evolution of surface-plasmon resonance in terms of array thickness is characterized by use of terahertz time-domain spectroscopy in the frequency range 0.1-4.5 THz. A critical thickness of lead array film is observed, above which surface-plasmon coupling of terahertz pulses begins and is enhanced rapidly as the array thickness is increased toward the skin depth. The experimental results indicate that high-efficiency extraordinary terahertz transmission can be achieved at an array thickness of only one third of skin depth.  相似文献

A microstrip patch antenna is designed using a very thin layer of graphene as the radiating patch, which is fed by a microstrip transmission line. The graphene based patch is designed on a silicon substrate having a dielectric constant of 11.9, to radiate at a single frequency of 2.6 THz. Further, this antenna is made to resonate at dual frequencies of 2.48 THz and 3.35 THz, by changing the substrate height, which is reported for the first time. Various antenna parameters such as return loss, VSWR, gain, efficiency and bandwidth are also determined for the single and dual band operation. For the single band operation, a bandwidth of 145.4 GHz and an efficiency of 92% was achieved. For dual band operation, a maximum bandwidth of 140.5 GHz was obtained at 3.35 THz and an efficiency of 87.3% was obtained at the first resonant frequency of 2.48 THz. The absorption cross section of the antenna is also analysed for various substrate heights and has maximum peaks at the corresponding resonating frequencies. The simulation has been carried out by using a full wave electromagnetic simulator based on FDTD method.  相似文献

The effect of nonlinear transmission in coupled optical waveguide arrays is theoretically investigated and a realistic experimental setup is suggested. The beam is injected in a single boundary waveguide, linear refractive index of which (n(0)) is larger than refractive indexes (n) of other identical waveguides in the array. Particularly, the effect holds if omega(n(0)-n)/c>2Q, where Q is a linear coupling constant between array waveguides, omega is a carrier wave frequency, and c is a light velocity. Numerical experiments show that the energy transfers from the boundary waveguide to the waveguide array above a certain threshold intensity of the injected beam. This effect is due to the creation and the propagation of gap solitons in full analogy with a similar phenomenon in sine-Gordon lattice [Phys. Rev. Lett. 89, 134102 (2002)]].  相似文献

The goal of this study is to construct simple electromechanical models of nanoresonators as mass detectors. A major obstacle in the achievement of sufficient measurement accuracy for the resonant frequency associated with the adsorption of additional mass onto the graphene layer is a low quality factor of the oscillatory system containing the graphene layer. A graphene resonator can be considered as an elastic system with distributed parameters. The application of the Galerkin method to study nearly resonant vibrational modes reduces the problem to considering an oscillatory system with a few degrees of freedom with pronounced nonlinear properties. These properties are, first of all, due to the nonlinear dependence of the forces produced by the electric field on the graphene deflection and, second, due to the nonlinear dependence of the graphene layer tension on its deflection. Taking into account the nonlinear properties leads to the appearance of characteristic drops in the resonance curve which allow for a more accurate resonant frequency measurement. Resonance curves with such characteristic drops can be obtained using a demonstration experimental macromodel of the resonator. Two absolutely new layouts are proposed, such as a differential resonator and resonator with parametric excitation. The oscillations excited in the differential resonator that contains two graphene layers resemble beats. In this case, small changes in the mass of the main layer correspond to significant changes in the frequency of the envelope. This effect is illustrated by oscillograms obtained for an experimental macromodel of the differential resonator. The parametric resonator has one graphene layer between two conducting surfaces. Parametric excitation of steady-state high amplitude oscillations is possible in this resonator only in a narrow frequency band close to the eigenfrequency. The band width reduces with a decrease in the quality factor of the oscillatory system. The latter fact can be useful for the improvement of eigenfrequency measurement accuracy at a low quality factor of the oscillatory system.  相似文献
