Monodromy is the simplest obstruction to the existence of global action–angle variables in integrable Hamiltonian dynamical systems. We consider one of the simplest possible systems with monodromy: a particle in a circular box containing a cylindrically symmetric potential-energy barrier. Systems with monodromy have nontrivial smooth connections between their regular Liouville tori. We consider a dynamical connection produced by an appropriate time-dependent perturbation of our system. This turns studying monodromy into studying a physical process. We explain what aspects of this process are to be looked upon in order to uncover the interesting and somewhat unexpected dynamical behavior resulting from the nontrivial properties of the connection. We compute and analyze this behavior.  相似文献

The hodograph transformation is generally used in order to associate a system of linear partial differential equations to a system of nonlinear (quasilinear) differential equations by interchanging dependent and independent variables. Here we consider the case when the nonlinear differential system can be derived from a Lagrangian density and revisit the hodograph transformation within the formalism of the Lagrangian-Hamiltonian continuous dynamical systems.Restricting to the case of nondissipative, nondispersive one-dimensional waves, we show that the hodograph transformation leads to a linear partial differential equation for an unknown function that plays the role of the Lagrangian in the hodograph variables. We then define the corresponding hodograph Hamiltonian and show that it turns out to coincide with the wave amplitude. i.e., with the unknown function of the independent variables to be solved for in the initial nonlinear wave equation.  相似文献

The effective interaction Hamiltonian in 3D nonlinear lattices is established taking into account the repetitions of the up and down transition of an atom between two levels at the same site. The effective interaction Hamiltonian leads to the Heisenberg equation for phonon operators, which yields the conventional dynamical equation for displacements of atoms in 3D nonlinear lattices in the tree approximation by the boson transformation method. Making the one-loop approximation to the nonlinear potential in the Heisenberg equation, we obtain a dynamical equation with a self-consistent potential created by a localized or a resonant mode. In paper II, we show that the dynamical equation yields solutions for localized and resonant modes at finite temperatures.  相似文献

We describe a numerical method for calculating periodic orbits, which is a generalization of the monodromy method by Baranger et al. to the case of an arbitrary autonomous dynamical system. Two variants of the method are developed, using the midpoint and the Runge-Kutta discretization of equations of motion, respectively. Particularly, we adapt the first variant for calculating periodic orbits of Hamiltonian systems when the period or the energy is given a priori. Finally, we consider the application of the monodromy method to the case of regularized mechanical systems and demonstrate the use by two examples. (c) 1999 American Institute of Physics.  相似文献

The phenomenon of a topological monodromy in integrable Hamiltonian and nonholonomic systems is discussed. An efficient method for computing and visualizing the monodromy is developed. The comparative analysis of the topological monodromy is given for the rolling ellipsoid of revolution problem in two cases, namely, on a smooth and on a rough plane. The first of these systems is Hamiltonian, the second is nonholonomic. We show that, from the viewpoint of monodromy, there is no difference between the two systems, and thus disprove the conjecture by Cushman and Duistermaat stating that the topological monodromy gives a topological obstruction for Hamiltonization of the rolling ellipsoid of revolution on a rough plane.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the ``Hamiltonian' monodromy of the fibration in Liouville tori of certain integrable systems via (real) algebraic geometry. Using Picard-Lefschetz theory in a relative Prym variety, we determine the Hamiltonian monodromy of the ``geodesic flow on SO(4)'. Using a relative generalized Jacobian, we prove that the Hamiltonian monodromy of the spherical pendulum can also be obtained by the Picard-Lefschetz formula. A class of Hamiltonian nonlinear wave equations possessing complex solitary waves with exponential decay is studied. It is shown that the interpulse interactions in a train of nearly identical solitary waves with large separations between the individual solitary waves are approximately described by a double Toda lattice system, with two variables at each lattice site. Under certain conditions, which are explicitly identified as Cauchy-Riemann equations, the two dynamical variables are real and imaginary parts of a single complex variable, leading to the complex Toda lattice equations, which is a discrete integrable dynamical system. This analysis generalizes to certain nonintegrable partial differential equations a recent result for the nonlinear Schr?dinger equation, and is important for the study of nonlinear communications channels in optical fibers. An example, the cubic-quintic nonlinear Schr?dinger equation, is worked out in detail to show that the theory can be carried through analytically. The theory is used to determine the stability of an infinite chain of nearly identical pulses separated by large time intervals. The entire theory is nonperturbative in the sense that the nonlinear wave equation need not be a weak perturbation of an integrable one.  相似文献

Using a variant of quantum inverse scattering method (QISM) which is directly applicable to field theoretical systems, we derive all possible commutation relations among the operator valued elements of the monodromy matrix associated with an integrable derivative nonlinear Schrödinger (DNLS) model. From these commutation relations we obtain the exact Bethe eigenstates for the quantum conserved quantities of DNLS model. We also explicitly construct the first few quantum conserved quantities including the Hamiltonian in terms of the basic field operators of this model. It turns out that this quantum Hamiltonian has a new kind of coupling constant which is quite different from the classical one. This fact allows us to apply QISM to generate the spectrum of quantum DNLS Hamiltonian for the full range of its coupling constant.  相似文献

The theory of bifurcations for dynamical system is employed to construct new exact solutions of the generalized nonlinear Schrödinger equation. Firstly, the generalized nonlinear Schrödinger equation was converted into ordinary differential equation system by using traveling wave transform. Then, the system's Hamiltonian, orbits phases diagrams are found. Finally, six families of solutions are constructed by integrating along difference orbits, which consist of Jacobi elliptic function solutions, hyperbolic function solutions, trigonometric function solutions, solitary wave solutions, breaking wave solutions, and kink wave solutions.  相似文献

An extension of the algebraic-geometric method for nonlinear integrable PDE's is shown to lead to new piecewise smooth weak solutions of a class of N-component systems of nonlinear evolution equations. This class includes, among others, equations from the Dym and shallow water equation hierarchies. The main goal of the paper is to give explicit theta-functional expressions for piecewise smooth weak solutions of these nonlinear PDE's, which are associated to nonlinear subvarieties of hyperelliptic Jacobians. The main results of the present paper are twofold. First, we exhibit some of the special features of integrable PDE's that admit piecewise smooth weak solutions, which make them different from equations whose solutions are globally meromorphic, such as the KdV equation. Second, we blend the techniques of algebraic geometry and weak solutions of PDE's to gain further insight into, and explicit formulas for, piecewise-smooth finite-gap solutions. The basic technique used to achieve these aims is rather different from earlier papers dealing with peaked solutions. First, profiles of the finite-gap piecewise smooth solutions are linked to certain finite dimensional billiard dynamical systems and ellipsoidal billiards. Second, after reducing the solution of certain finite dimensional Hamiltonian systems on Riemann surfaces to the solution of a nonstandard Jacobi inversion problem, this is resolved by introducing new parametrizations. Amongst other natural consequences of the algebraic-geometric approach, we find finite dimensional integrable Hamiltonian dynamical systems describing the motion of peaks in the finite-gap as well as the limiting (soliton) cases, and solve them exactly. The dynamics of the peaks is also obtained by using Jacobi inversion problems. Finally, we relate our method to the shock wave approach for weak solutions of wave equations by determining jump conditions at the peak location. We study dynamical behaviors of traveling wave solutions to a Fujimoto-Watanabe equation using the method of dynamical systems. We obtain all possible bifurcations of phase portraits of the system in different regions of the threedimensional parameter space. Then we show the required conditions to guarantee the existence of traveling wave solutions including solitary wave solutions, periodic wave solutions, kink-like(antikink-like) wave solutions, and compactons. Moreover, we present exact expressions and simulations of these traveling wave solutions. The dynamical behaviors of these new traveling wave solutions will greatly enrich the previews results and further help us understand the physical structures and analyze the propagation of nonlinear waves.  相似文献

The uncovering of the role of monodromy in integrable Hamiltonian fibrations has been one of the major advances in the study of integrable Hamiltonian systems in the past few decades: on one hand monodromy turned out to be the most fundamental obstruction to the existence of global action-angle coordinates while, on the other hand, it provided the correct classical analogue for the interpretation of the structure of quantum joint spectra. Fractional monodromy is a generalization of the concept of monodromy: instead of restricting our attention to the toric part of the fibration we extend our scope to also consider singular fibres. In this paper we analyze fractional monodromy for n 1:(?n 2) resonant Hamiltonian systems with n 1, n 2 coprime natural numbers. We consider, in particular, systems that for n 1, n 2 > 1 contain one-parameter families of singular fibres which are ‘curled tori’. We simplify the geometry of the fibration by passing to an appropriate branched covering. In the branched covering the curled tori and their neighborhood become untwisted thus simplifying the geometry of the fibration: we essentially obtain the same type of generalized monodromy independently of n 1, n 2. Fractional monodromy is then recovered by pushing the results obtained in the branched covering back to the original system.  相似文献

We consider a new exactly solvable nonlinear quantum model as a Hamiltonian defined in terms of the generators of the su q(2) algebra. The corresponding matrix elements of finite rotations (the q-deformed Wigner d functions) are introduced. It is shown that the quantum optical model of the three-wave interaction has an approximate su q(2) dynamical symmetry given by this Hamiltonian. Such q symmetry allows us to investigate the spectral and dynamical properties of the three wave model through new perturbation techniques.  相似文献

A review of the generic features as well as the exact analytical solutions of a class of coupled scalar field equations governing nonlinear wave modulations in dispersive media like plasmas is presented. The equations are derivable from a Hamiltonian function which, in most cases, has the unusual property that the associated kinetic energy is not positive definite. To start with, a simplified derivation of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation for the coupling of an amplitude modulated high-frequency wave to a suitable low-frequency wave is discussed. Coupled sets of time-evolution equations like the Zakharov system, the Schrödinger-Boussinesq system and the Schrödinger-Korteweg-de Vries system are then introduced. For stationary propagation of the coupled waves, the latter two systems yield a generic system of a pair of coupled, ordinary differential equations with many free parameters. Different classes of exact analytical solutions of the generic system of equations are then reviewed. A comparison between the various sets of governing equations as well as between their exact analytical solutions is presented. Parameter regimes for the existence of different types of localized solutions are also discussed. The generic system of equations has a Hamiltonian structure, and is closely related to the well-known Hénon-Heiles system which has been extensively studied in the field of nonlinear dynamics. In fact, the associated generic Hamiltonian is identically the same as the generalized Hénon-Heiles Hamiltonian for the case of coupled waves in a magnetized plasma with negative group dispersion. When the group dispersion is positive, there exists a novel Hamiltonian which is structurally same as the generalized Hénon-Heiles Hamiltonian but with indefinite kinetic energy. The above correspondence between the two systems has been exploited to obtain the parameter regimes for the complete integrability of the coupled waves. There exists a direct one-to-one correspondence between the known integrable cases of the generic Hamiltonian and the stationary Hamiltonian flows associated with the only integrable nonlinear evolution equations (of polynomial and autonomous type) with a scale-weight of seven. The relevance of the generic system to other equations like the self-dual Yang-Mills equations, the complex Korteweg-de Vries equation and the complexified classical dynamical equations has also been discussed.  相似文献

Using the minimum uncertainty state of quantum integrable system H0 as initial state, the spatiotemporal evolution of the wave packet under the action of perturbed Hamiltonian is studied causally as in classical mechanics,Due to the existence of the avoided energy level crossing in the spectrum there exist nonlinear resonances between some paris of neighboring components of the wave packet, the deterministic dynamical evolution becomes very complicated and appears to be chaotic. It is proposed to use expectation values for the whole set of basic dynamical variables and the corresponding spreading widths to describe the topological features concisely such that the quantum chaotic motion can be studied in contrast with the quantum regular motion and well characterized with the asymptotic behaviors .It has been demonstrated with numerical results that such a wave packet has indeed quantum behaviors of ergodicity as in corresponding classical case.  相似文献

We give some remarks on the dynamical evolution (also nonlinear) of finite quantum system. We are interested int-asymptotic behavior of density matrices in the Liouville space formalism and we show that for nonlinear dynamical semigroups, as well as for the dynamical maps that do not form semigroups, the stationary time evolution may be attained for finite time in contrast to the motion generated by the linear dynamical semigroup. Recently the problem of constructing a nonlinear analog of quantum mechanics with nonlinear wave equation playing the role of the Schrödinger equation has been investigated by some authors; see for example Mielnik (1974), Bergmann (1968). Our work is related to this investigation and gives a characteristic feature of the nonlinear time evolution.  相似文献

In this paper, Hamiltonian monodromy is addressed from the point of view of geometric quantization, and various differential geometric aspects thereof are dealt with, all related to holonomies of suitable flat connections. In the case of completely integrable Hamiltonian systems with two degrees of freedom, a link is established between monodromy and (two-level) theta functions, by resorting to the by now classical differential geometric interpretation of the latter as covariantly constant sections of a flat connection, via the heat equation. Furthermore, it is shown that monodromy is tied to the braiding of the Weierstraß roots pertaining to a Lagrangian torus, when endowed with a natural complex structure (making it an elliptic curve) manufactured from a natural basis of cycles thereon. Finally, a new derivation of the monodromy of the spherical pendulum is provided.  相似文献

A dynamical generalization of the classical Yang-Baxter equation that governs the possible Poisson structures on the space of chiral WZNW fields with a generic monodromy is reviewed. It is explained that, for particular choices of chiral WZNW Poisson brackets, this equation reduces to the CDYB equation recently studied by Etingof and Varchenko and by others. Interesting dynamical r matrices are obtained for a generic monodromy, as well as by imposing Dirac constraints on the monodromy.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the higher dimensional nonlinear Rossby waves under the generalized beta effect. Using methods of the multiple scales and weak nonlinear perturbation expansions [Q. S. Liu, et al., Phys. Lett. A 383 (2019) 514], we derive a new $(2+1)$-dimensional generalized Boussinesq equation from the barotropic potential vorticity equation. Based on bifurcation theory of planar dynamical systems and the qualitative theory of ordinary differential equations, the dynamical analysis and exact traveling wave solutions of the new generalized Boussinesq equation are obtained. Moreover, we provide the numerical simulations of these exact solutions under some conditions of all parameters. The numerical results show that these traveling wave solutions are all the Rossby solitary waves.  相似文献
