It is shown that the formation of the brittle phase in hydrogenated metal under external loading is a first-order phase transition. The basic equation of the evolution of elastic stress in a uniform and isotropic hydrogenated metal during the formation of a brittle hydride phase is derived and its solution is found. Based on this data, the time dependences of all characteristics of the phase transition into a brittle phase are found; namely, the densities of nuclei of the hydride phase, the size distribution, and the formation rates of the hydride phase nuclei are found. The characteristic time of the transition into the brittle phase is found.  相似文献

The ground state entanglement in an isotropic three-qubit transverse XY chain with energy current is analysed. A quantum phase transition from a no-energy-current phase to energy-current phase is found when the magnetic field changes. The effects of a magnetic field on a modulated phase are studied. A modulated phase is found to have two critical fields H1 and H2. For a large enough magnetic field, H1 and H2 can be approximated by a linear law. As a result, the minimum magnetic field needed to destroy a modulated phase is a constant. The minimum magnetic field also greatly depends on the order of a commensurate phase. A very high order commensurate phase and an incommensurate phase cannot survive a magnetic field. The behaviour of a magnetoelastic chain in a magnetic field can be described by a harmless devil's staircase. The inverse temperature is found to play a role similar to that of a special magnetic field. The deeper physics underlying these new phenomena is the breaking of the left-right symmetry of a phase diagram. As a result a controllable path to a modulated phase is found.  相似文献

The susceptibility,internal energy and specific heat of the system are numerically examined and some interesting phenomena in these quantities are found. The effect of the Hamiltonian parameters on phase diagrams are examined in detail. Besides second-order phase transition, lines of first-order transition and tricritical points are found. A first-order phase transition is found in two types of intrinsic curvature models defined on dynamically triangulated surfaces of disk topology. The intrinsic curvature energy is included in the Hamiltonian. The smooth phase is separated from a non-smooth phase by the transition. The crumpled phase, which is different from the non-smooth phase, also appears at sufficiently small curvature coefficient α. The phase structure of the model on the disk is identical to that of the spherical surface model, which was investigated by us and reported previously. Thus, we found that the phase structure of the fluid surface model with intrinsic curvature is independent of whether the surface is closed or open.  相似文献

A simple Landau-type free energy function is presented to describe the smectic-A-isotropic phase transition. Varying the coupling between orientational and positional order parameters, a smectic-A-isotropic or a nematic-isotropic phase transition occurs. Within this model the smectic-A-isotropic phase transition is found to be always more strongly first order than the nematic-isotropic phase transition. In in-vivo applications of proton NMR spectroscopic imaging, an oscillatory "ringing" artifact has been observed in some of the spectra. The source of this artifact was found to be the presence of a harmonic "beating" effect in the amplitude of the water reference free induction decay (FID) which was used for zero order phase correction for B0 inhomogeneity and eddy current compensation. The source of the beats was found to be the presence of distinct populations of spins resonating at slightly different frequencies. When the common method of zero order phase correction was implemented using such an FID, the resulting phase-corrected, water-suppressed spectra displayed ringing. Examination of the unwrapped phase correction angle revealed unexpected jumps in phase at points in time corresponding to nodes in the amplitude of the FID. Low-pass filtering of the phase correction angle of the reference FID was found to smooth out these unanticipated phase jumps. When used as a reference for phase correction, the filtered phase information gave a phase-corrected, water-suppressed spectrum free from ringing.  相似文献

A new phase of solid bromine was discovered at a pressure region above 80 GPa by Raman scattering experiments with a diamond anvil high-pressure cell. This phase was found to be the same as the iodine phase V with an incommensurate structure [Nature (London) 423, 971 (2003)] which appears between the molecular phase I and the monatomic phase II. In the incommensurate phases of both bromine and iodine, Raman active soft modes were clearly found in the low frequency region. The data suggest that the monoatomic phase II occurs above 30 and 115 GPa for iodine and bromine, respectively.  相似文献

We investigate the effect of the phase difference of applied fields on the dynamics of mutually coupled Josephson junctions. A phase difference between the applied fields desynchronizes the system. It is found that though the amplitudes of the output voltage values are uncorrelated, a phase correlation is found to exist for small values of applied phase difference. The dynamics of the system is found to change from chaotic to periodic for certain values of phase difference. We report that by keeping the value of phase difference as π, the system continues to be in periodic motion for a wide range of values of system parameters. This result may find applications in devices like voltage standards, detectors, SQUIDS, etc., where chaos is least desired.  相似文献

The carrier-envelope phase slip of an ultrashort pulse circulating in a mode-locked Ti:sapphire laser is analyzed. The laser cavity is modeled by a dispersion- and nonlinearity-managed nonlinear Schr?dinger equation. The combined contributions to the phase slip induced by nonlinear phase and nonlinear dispersion are found to approach zero for strong dispersion maps. The dependence of the slip on third-order dispersion is found as well. The analytical results are verified using numerical simulations.  相似文献

We show that the quantum Loschmidt echo can be employed to characterize the dynamical phase transition, from a tunnelling phase to a self-trapping phase, of a Bose-Einstein condensate in a double-well potential. The echo is found to have a relatively fast decay in the transition region, with a Gaussian decay in the self-trapping phase and a stretched exponential decay in the tunnelling phase.  相似文献

The ground-state magnetic properties of the spin-2 transverse Ising model with a longitudinal crystal field are studied within the framework of mean-field theory (MFT) and effective-field theory (EFT), respectively. The phase diagrams and magnetization curves are examined in detail. It is found that the system exhibits a tricritical behavior in the ground-state phase diagrams. Some interesting phenomena have been found, especially the first-order phase transition from one ordered phase to the other ordered phase, which is due to the high spin. The spin correlation has important effect on the magnetic properties of the system. We also find that the ground-state phase diagrams of the spin-2 transverse Ising model are very different from those of the spin-3/2 transverse Ising model.  相似文献

The behavior of the enthalpy and specific heat of normal C24 alkane in the bulk and in porous glasses is investigated using an adiabatic scanning microcalorimeter. Enthalpy jumps, which precede a phase transition in the entire volume of the pores, are found in porous glass with characteristic pore size 1000 Å at a transition from the isotropic liquid into the rotator phase RII. The enthalpy jumps are interpreted as a layerwise growth of a crystal phase on the surface of porous glass. It is also found that porous glass substantially changes the phase behavior of alkanes.  相似文献

The heat capacity of 2-chloro and 2-fluoronaphtalene has been measured from 4.2 K to 300 K. Two solid-solid transitions are found for 2-chloronaphtalene, one only for 2-fluoronaphtalene. Far IR and Raman spectra of single crystals have been recorded. The phase stable below the melting point, phase I, is disordered in each case. Short range order, similar to the order of phase II of 2-chloronaphtalene is found in phase I of both compounds; it yields a local symmetry different from the average one obtained from X-ray measurements. The aim of this investigation is crystal structure determination of an intermetallic phase formed in a W-Ni-Co alloy during a heat-treatment carried out at a temperature of 800°C. This intermetallic phase is expected to play a critical role on the final microstructure (fine tungsten particles in an FCC matrix that is present in between large tungsten grains) and thereby, on the properties of the alloy. 92W-5.3Ni-2.7Co alloy was prepared through powder metallurgy route (liquid phase sintering) followed by heat-treatment at 800°C for 5?h. The intermetallic phase formed at this temperature was characterised using transmission and scanning electron microscopes. The intermetallic phase was found to have orthorhombic crystal structure with Pnam (62) space group as determined using automated diffraction tomography along with precession electron diffraction. Chemical analysis in TEM suggested that the intermetallic phase is based on stoichiometry (Co,Ni)2W. Orientation imaging of the phase was also carried out in TEM and EBSD to understand its evolution. Equiaxed or lath morphology of the intermetallic phase was found to depend on the crystallographic orientation relationship of the phase with the tungsten grains and the matrix phase.  相似文献
