We have derived and investigated analytical expressions for the cross sections and spin asymmetries in the elastic electromagnetic and electroweak scattering of unpolarized/longitudinally polarized electrons on a polarized/unpolarized proton target with allowance for the C-, P-, and T/CP-invariance violating anapole and electric dipole moments, as well as the neutral weak electric, magnetic, and axial form factors of the proton. The dependence of the spin asymmetries on the energy and form-factor parameters is studied.  相似文献

Spin asymmetries in deep inelastic scattering with longitudinally polarized electron and proton beams are examined. These predictions are a good testing ground for the nucleon spin structure and for the electroweak theory. Some of them will be measured in polarization experiments at future colliders.  相似文献

Single spin asymmetries in (quasi)elastic electron-proton and electron-deuteron scattering give insight into the structure of the nucleon. In case of a longitudinally polarized electron beam, the parity violating asymmetries can be used to determine the contribution of strange quarks to the vector form factors of the nucleon, whereas the asymmetries using a transversely polarized electron beam allow a determination of the imaginary part of the two-photon exchange amplitude which is related to the nucleon structure due to excited intermediate proton states. Both cases are presented here.  相似文献

Asymmetries for scattering of longitudinally polarized electrons from deuterons with a vector polarization as well as asymmetries for scattering of unpolarized electrons from deuterons with a tensor polarization have been considered for inclusive elastic ed scattering. The sensitivity of all asymmetries considered to the electric form factor of the neutron and to the spin structure of the deuteron wave function has been investigated.  相似文献

Double spin asymmetries in the diffractive \(Q\bar Q\) and J/ψ leptoproduction are discussed. It is shown that the asymmetries for longitudinally polarized lepton and longitudinally or transversely polarized proton can be used to study spin dependent gluon distribution of the proton at small x.  相似文献

Single-spin asymmetries for semi-inclusive pion production in deep-inelastic scattering have been measured for the first time. A significant target-spin asymmetry of the distribution in the azimuthal angle straight phi of the pion relative to the lepton scattering plane was formed for pi(+) electroproduction on a longitudinally polarized hydrogen target. The corresponding analyzing power in the sinstraight phi moment of the cross section is 0.022+/-0.005+/-0.003. This result can be interpreted as the effect of terms in the cross section involving chiral-odd spin distribution functions in combination with a chiral-odd fragmentation function that is sensitive to the transverse polarization of the fragmenting quark.  相似文献

We report the first measurement of the opening angle distribution between pairs of jets produced in high-energy collisions of transversely polarized protons. The measurement probes (Sivers) correlations between the transverse spin orientation of a proton and the transverse momentum directions of its partons. With both beams polarized, the wide pseudorapidity (-1< or = eta < or = +2) coverage for jets permits separation of Sivers functions for the valence and sea regions. The resulting asymmetries are all consistent with zero and considerably smaller than Sivers effects observed in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering. We discuss theoretical attempts to reconcile the new results with the sizable transverse spin effects seen in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering and forward hadron production in pp collisions.  相似文献

We consider double spin asymmetries for longitudinally polarized leptons and transversely polarized protons in diffractive vector meson and production at high energies within the two-gluon model. The connection of the two-gluon approach with skewed gluon distributions is discussed. The asymmetry predicted for meson production is quite small. The asymmetry for production contains two independent terms which are large and can be used to obtain information on the polarized skewed gluon distributions in the proton. Predictions are made for single spin azimuthal asymmetries due to the Collins effect in pion production from semi-inclusive deeply inelastic scattering off transversely and longitudinally polarized targets for the HERMES and COMPASS experiments. The x-dependence of the asymmetries is evaluated using the parton distribution functions from the chiral quark-soliton model. The overall normalization of the predicted asymmetries is determined by the information on the Collins fragmentation function extracted from previous HERMES data on azimuthal asymmetries from a longitudinally polarized target. The single spin asymmetries A UT from the transversely polarized proton target are found to be about for positive and neutral pions both at HERMES and COMPASS. For a longitudinally polarized target we obtain for COMPASS and .Received: 18 September 2003, Published online: 26 November 2003  相似文献

The spin polarizabilities of the nucleon are fundamental structure constants which describe the response of the nucleon spin to an incident polarized photon. The most model-independent way to measure the nucleon spin polarizabilities is the Compton scattering with polarization degrees of freedom. Three Compton scattering asymmetries on the proton were measured in the Δ(1232) region using a polarized incident photon beam and a polarized (or unpolarized) proton target at the Mainz Microtron (MAMI). These asymmetries are sensitive to values of the spin polarizabilities. Fits to asymmetry data were performed using a dispersion model calculation, and a separation of all four proton spin-polarizabilities in the multipole basis was achieved. The values of the proton spin polarizabilities are presented.  相似文献

COMPASS is a fixed-target high energy physics experiment at the SPS at CERN [1]. One of the important objectives of the experiment is the exploration of the transverse spin structure of the nucleon via spin dependent azimuthal asymmetries in single-hadron production in deep inelastic scattering of polarized leptons off transversely polarized target. For this purpose a series of measurements were made in COMPASS, using 160 GeV/c longitudinally polarized muon beam and transversely polarized 6LiD (in 2002, 2003 and 2004) and NH3 (in 2007 and 2010) targets. Till now main attention was focused on Collins and Sivers asymmetries and obtained results play an important role in the general understanding of the three-dimensional nature of the nucleon and mechanism of SIDIS processes in terms of Transverse Momentum Dependent (TMD) Parton Distribution Functions (PDFs) and Fragmentation Functions (FFs). In addition to these two measured leading-twist effects, the SIDIS cross-section counts six more target transverse spin dependent azimuthal effects, which have their own well defined leading or higher-twist interpretation in terms of QCD parton model. So far COMPASS presented preliminary results for these asymmetries from deuteron [2, 3] and “proton-2007” data [4]. In this contribution we review the results obtained with the last “proton-2010” data sample.  相似文献

A polarized proton beam extracted from SATURNE II and the Saclay polarized proton target were used to determine the spin correlation parameter Aoosk and the rescattering observablesK os″ so; Dos″ok, Nos″sn, andN onsk at 1.80 and 2.10 GeV. The beam polarization was oriented perpendicular to the beam direction in the horizontal scattering plane and the target polarization was directed either along the vertical axis or longitudinally. Left-right and up-down asymmetries in the second scattering were measured. A check for the beam optimization with the beam and target polarizations oriented vertically provided other observables, of which results forD onon andK onno at 1.80, 1.85, 2.04, and 2.10 GeV are listed here. The new data at 2.10 GeV suggest a smooth energy dependence of spin triplet scattering amplitudes at fixed angles in the vicinity of this energy.  相似文献

We report the first precision measurement of the proton electric to magnetic form factor ratio from spin-dependent elastic scattering of longitudinally polarized electrons from a polarized hydrogen internal gas target. The measurement was performed at the MIT-Bates South Hall Ring over a range of four-momentum transfer squared Q2 from 0.15 to 0.65 (GeV/c)(2). Significantly improved results on the proton electric and magnetic form factors are obtained in combination with existing cross-section data on elastic electron-proton scattering in the same Q2 region.  相似文献

Spin polarizabilities are as-yet experimentally unknown fundamental structure constants that describe the response of the nucleon spin to the action of a changing electromagnetic field. The A2 Collaboration at the Institute for Nuclear Physics in Mainz (Institut für Kernphysik, Mainz) performed the first measurements of the energy and angular dependences of spin asymmetries of the cross section for doubly polarized (polarized-photon beam incident to a polarized proton target) Compton effect in the Δ-resonance region, these asymmetries being sensitive to values of the spin polarizabilities. The preparation of spin-asymmetry measurements at energies below the pion-production threshold with an active (scintillating) polarized target is in progress. These measurements will make it possible to determine individual spin polarizabilities of the proton in a model-independent way.  相似文献

COMPASS is a fixed target experiment at CERN where nucleon spin structure and hadron spectroscopy are investigated using a 160 GeV/c polarized μ+ beam. An important part of its physics program are the measurements of single spin asymmetries (SSA) in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS) on transversely polarized targets. Data on a deuteron target (6LiD) were taken in 2002–04. After taking the first data on a transversely polarized proton target (NH3) in 2007, a full year of data taking followed in 2010 to increase precision. The SSA of identified hadron pairs consisting of charged pions and/or kaons from the 2010 data are shown for the first time and compared to model predictions and results from HERMES.  相似文献

Analytical expressions are obtained for the angular distributions and spin asymmetries of the processes of elastic electromagnetic and electroweak scattering of high energy electrons on polarized/unpolarized proton target with account of C-, P- and T/CP-invariance violating anapole and electric dipole moments, as well as neutral weak electric, magnetic and axial form factors of the proton. Behavior of the P- and T- odd spin asymmetries is studied in dependence of the electron’s energy and scattering angle and proton form factors parameters.  相似文献

A measurement of psuedo-scalar meson photo production from longitudinally polarized solid HD has been carried out with the CLAS at Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (Jlab) with circularly and linearly polarized photon beams. Its aim is to measure a complete set of spin observables for the neutron simultaneously from the same experiment. As a polarized neutron, deutron in HD was used. Preliminary asymmetries are shown for the π? channel.  相似文献

Transverse target single-spin asymmetries in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering allow to study the so-called Collins and Sivers mechanisms. The first one connects the poorly known fundamental transversity distribution function, describing the transverse spin-polarization of quarks in a transversely polarized proton, to the Collins fragmentation function, describing spin-orbit correlations in the hadron formation process. The second one is sensitive to the Sivers function, which correlates the intrinsic transverse momentum of quarks with the proton’s spin orientation and is related to the orbital angular momentum of quarks. Preliminary results on azimuthal single target-spin asymmetries in semi-inclusive electro-production of pions and kaons at the HERMES experiment are presented. The full data set collected with a transversely polarized hydrogen target was analyzed providing the HERMES most precise results on the Collins and Sivers azimuthal moments. A multi-purpose fixed-target experiment using the proton and lead-ion beams of the LHC was recently proposed by Brodsky, Fleuret, Hadjidakis and Lansberg, and here we concentrate our study on some issues related to the spin physics part of this project (referred to as AFTER). We study the nucleon spin structure through pp and pd processes with a fixed-target experiment using the LHC proton beams, for the kinematical region with 7?TeV proton beams at the energy in center-of-mass frame of two nucleons $\sqrt{s}=115~\mathrm{GeV}$ . We calculate and estimate the cos2? azimuthal asymmetries of unpolarized pp and pd dilepton production processes in the Drell?CYan continuum region and at the Z-pole. We also calculate the sin(2??? S ), sin(2?+? S ) and sin2? azimuthal asymmetries of pp and pd dilepton production processes with the target proton and deuteron longitudinally or transversally polarized in the Drell?CYan continuum region and around Z resonances region. We conclude that it is feasible to measure these azimuthal asymmetries, consequently the three-dimensional or transverse momentum dependent parton distribution functions (3dPDFs or TMDs), at this new AFTER facility.  相似文献

An introduction to deep inelastic scattering experiments investigating the spin structure of the proton and the neutron is given. Discussed are measurements with longitudinally polarized targets to determine the spin structure functiong 1 and sum rules and to do pQCD analyses with inclusive data, while a flavour separation and first extractions of the gluon polarization are performed with semi-inclusive data.  相似文献
