The thermal conductivity of methane hydrate is an important physical parameter affecting the processes of methane hydrate exploration, mining, gas hydrate storage and transportation as well as other applications.Equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations and the Green-Kubo method have been employed for systems from fully occupied to vacant occupied sI methane hydrate in order to estimate their thermal conductivity. The estimations were carried out at temperatures from 203.15 to 263.15 K and at pressures from 3 to 100 MPa.Potential models selected for water were TIP4P,TIP4P-Ew,TIP4P/2005,TIP4P-FQ and TIP4P/Ice.The effects of varying the ratio of the host and guest molecules and the external thermobaric conditions on the thermal conductivity of methane hydrate were studied. The results indicated that the thermal conductivity of methane hydrate is essentially determined by the cage framework which constitutes the hydrate lattice and the cage framework has only slightly higher thermal conductivity in the presence of the guest molecules.Inclusion of more guest molecules in the cage improves the thermal conductivity of methane hydrate. It is also revealed that the thermal conductivity of the sI hydrate shows a similar variation with temperature.Pressure also has an effect on the thermal conductivity, particularly at higher pressures. As the pressure increases, slightly higher thermal conductivities result.Changes in density have little impact on the thermal conductivity of methane hydrate.

By employing inverse modeling to analyze the laboratory data, we determined the composite thermal conductivity (k(theta), W/m/K) of a porous methane hydrate sample ranged between 0.25 and 0.58 W/m/K as a function of density. The calculated composite thermal diffusivities of porous hydrate sample ranged between 2.59 x 10(-7) m(2)/s and 3.71 x 10(-7) m(2)/s. The laboratory study involved a large heterogeneous sample (composed of hydrate, water, and methane gas). The measurements were conducted isobarically at 4.98 MPa over a temperature range of 277.3-279.1 K. Pressure and temperature were monitored at multiple locations in the sample. X-ray computed tomography (CT) was used to visualize and quantify the density changes that occurred during hydrate formation from granular ice. CT images showed that methane hydrate formed from granular ice was heterogeneous and provided an estimate of the sample density variation in the radial direction. This facilitated quantifying the density effect on composite thermal conductivity. This study showed that the sample heterogeneity should be considered in thermal conductivity measurements of hydrate systems. Mixing models (i.e., arithmetic, harmonic, geometric mean, and square root models) were compared to the estimated composite thermal conductivity determined by inverse modeling. The results of the arithmetic mean model showed the best agreement with the estimated composite thermal conductivity.  相似文献

(1) Background: New technologies involving gas hydrates under pre-nucleation conditions such as gas separations and storage have become more prominent. This has necessitated the characterization and modeling of the transport properties of such systems. (2) Methodology: This work explored methane hydrate systems under pre-nucleation conditions. All-atom molecular dynamics simulations were used to quantify the performance of the TIP4P/2005 and TIP4P/Ice water models to predict the viscosity, diffusivity, and thermal conductivity using various formulations. (3) Results: Molecular simulation equilibrium was robustly demonstrated using various measures. The Green–Kubo estimation of viscosity outperformed other formulations when combined with TIP4P/Ice, and the same combination outperformed all TIP4P/2005 formulations. The Green–Kubo TIP4P/Ice estimation of viscosity overestimates (by 84% on average) the viscosity of methane hydrate systems under pre-nucleation conditions across all pressures considered (0–5 MPag). The presence of methane was found to increase the average number of hydrogen bonds over time (6.7–7.8%). TIP4P/Ice methane systems were also found to have 16–19% longer hydrogen bond lifetimes over pure water systems. (4) Conclusion: An inherent limitation in the current water force field for its application in the context of transport properties estimations for methane gas hydrate systems. A re-parametrization of the current force field is suggested as a starting point. Until then, this work may serve as a characterization of the deviance in viscosity prediction.  相似文献

Thermal conductivity of methane hydrate was measured in hydrate dissociation self-preservation zone by means of the transient plane source (TPS) technique developed by Gustafsson. The sample was formed from 99.9% (volume ratio) methane gas with 280 ppm sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) solution under 6.6 MPa and 273.15 K. The methane hydrate sample was taken out of the cell and moved into a low temperature chamber when the conversion ratio of water was more than 90%. In order to measure the thermal conductivity, the sample was compacted into two columnar parts by compact tool at 268.15 K. The measurements are carried out in the temperature ranging from 263.15 K to 271.15 K at atmospheric pressure. Additionally, the relationship between thermal conductivity and time is also investigated at 263.15 K and 268.15 K, respectively. In 24 h, thermal conductivity increases only 5.45% at 268.15 K, but thermal conductivity increases 196.29% at 263.15 K. Methane hydrates exhibit only minimal decomposition at 1 atm and the temperature ranging from 263.15 K to 271.15 K. At 1 atm and 268.15 K, the total gas that evolved after 24 h was amounted to less than 0.71% of the originally stored gas, and this ultra-stability was maintained if the test was lasted for more than two hundreds hours before terminating.  相似文献

Nonequilibrium molecular dynamics simulations with the nonpolarizable SPC/E (Berendsen et al., J. Phys. Chem. 1987, 91, 6269) and the polarizable COS/G2 (Yu and van Gunsteren, J. Chem. Phys. 2004, 121, 9549) force fields have been employed to calculate the thermal conductivity and other associated properties of methane hydrate over a temperature range from 30 to 260 K. The calculated results are compared to experimental data over this same range. The values of the thermal conductivity calculated with the COS/G2 model are closer to the experimental values than are those calculated with the nonpolarizable SPC/E model. The calculations match the temperature trend in the experimental data at temperatures below 50 K; however, they exhibit a slight decrease in thermal conductivity at higher temperatures in comparison to an opposite trend in the experimental data. The calculated thermal conductivity values are found to be relatively insensitive to the occupancy of the cages except at low (T相似文献

Extensive equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations have been performed to investigate thermal conduction mechanisms via the Green-Kubo approach for (type II) hydrogen hydrate, at 0.05 kbar and between 30 and 250 K, for both lightly filled H(2) hydrates (1s4l) and for more densely filled H(2) systems (2s4l), in which four H(2) molecules are present in the large cavities, with respective single- and double-occupation of the small cages. The TIP4P water model was used in conjunction with a fully atomistic hydrogen potential along with long-range Ewald electrostatics. It was found that substantially less damping in guest-host energy transfer is present in hydrogen hydrate as is observed in common type I clathrates (e.g., methane hydrate), but more akin in to previous results for type II and H methane hydrate polymorphs. This gives rise to larger thermal conductivities relative to common type I hydrates, and also larger than type II and H methane hydrate polymorphs, and a more crystal-like temperature dependence of the thermal conductivity.  相似文献

The composition of methane hydrate, namely n(w) for CH4.n(w)H2O, was directly measured along the hydrate equilibrium boundary under conditions of excess methane gas. Pressure and temperature conditions ranged from 1.9 to 9.7 MPa and 263 to 285 K. Within experimental error, there is no change in hydrate composition with increasing pressure along the equilibrium boundary, but n(w) may show a slight systematic decrease away from this boundary. A hydrate stoichiometry of n(w) = 5.81-6.10 H2O describes the entire range of measured values, with an average composition of CH4.5.99(+/-0.07)H2O along the equilibrium boundary. These results, consistent with previously measured values, are discussed with respect to the widely ranging values obtained by thermodynamic analysis. The relatively constant composition of methane hydrate over the geologically relevant pressure and temperature range investigated suggests that in situ methane hydrate compositions may be estimated with some confidence.  相似文献

Nonequilibrium molecular-dynamics simulations have been carried out at 276.65 K and 68 bar for the dissolution of spherical methane hydrate crystallites surrounded by a liquid phase. The liquid was composed of pure water or a water-methane mixture ranging in methane composition from 50% to 100% of the corresponding theoretical maximum for the hydrate and ranged in size from about 1600 to 2200 water molecules. Four different crystallites ranging in size from 115 to 230 water molecules were used in the two-phase systems; the nanocrystals were either empty or had a methane occupation from 80% to 100% of the theoretical maximum. The crystal-liquid systems were prepared in two distinct ways, involving constrained melting of a bulk hydrate system or implantation of the crystallite into a separate liquid phase. The breakup rates were very similar for the four different crystal sizes investigated. The method of system preparation was not found to affect the eventual dissociation rates, despite a lag time of approximately 70 ps associated with relaxation of the liquid interfacial layer in the constrained melting approach. The dissolution rates were not affected substantially by methane occupation of the hydrate phase in the 80%-100% range. In contrast, empty hydrate clusters were found to break up significantly more quickly. Our simulations indicate that the diffusion of methane molecules to the surrounding liquid layer from the crystal surface appears to be the rate-controlling step in hydrate breakup. Increasing the size of the liquid phase was found to reduce the initial delay in breakup. We have compared breakup rates computed using different long-range electrostatic methods. Use of the Ewald, minimum image, and spherical cut-off techniques led to more rapid dissociation relative to the Lekner method.  相似文献

Equilibrium molecular dynamics (MD) simulations have been performed in both the NVT and NPT ensembles to study the structural and dynamical properties of fully occupied methane clathrate hydrates at 50, 125, and 200 K. Five atomistic potential models were used for water, ranging from fully flexible to rigid polarizable and nonpolarizable. A flexible and a rigid model were utilized for methane. The phonon densities of states were evaluated and the localized rattling modes for the methane molecules were found to couple to the acoustic phonons of the host lattice. The calculated methane density of states was found to be in reasonable agreement with available experimental data.  相似文献

Kinetics of hydrate formation for propane and its mixture with 73% methane have been studied experimentally and theoretically at pressure up to 2 MPa and temperature up to 277.65 K in a 10 m circulating flow reactor. A mathematical model has been developed for the process of hydrate formation based on crystallization, mass transfer and thermodynamics concepts. The amounts of gas consumptions due to hydrate formation are measured experimentally and predicted by the model. The agreement between the experimental measured gas consumptions and predicted values by the mathematical model are very good and the average deviation errors in the prediction of gas consumption are less than 10%.  相似文献

For the first time, the compositions of argon and methane high-pressure gas hydrates have been directly determined. The studied samples of the gas hydrates were prepared under high-pressure conditions and quenched at 77 K. The composition of the argon hydrate (structure H, stable at 460-770 MPa) was found to be Ar.(3.27 +/- 0.17)H(2)O. This result shows a good agreement with the refinement of the argon hydrate structure using neutron powder diffraction data and helps to rationalize the evolution of hydrate structures in the Ar-H(2)O system at high pressures. The quenched argon hydrate was found to dissociate in two steps. The first step (170-190 K) corresponds to a partial dissociation of the hydrate and the self-preservation of a residual part of the hydrate with an ice cover. Presumably, significant amounts of ice Ic form at this stage. The second step (210-230 K) corresponds to the dissociation of the residual part of the hydrate. The composition of the methane hydrate (cubic structure I, stable up to 620 MPa) was found to be CH(4).5.76H(2)O. Temperature dependence of the unit cell parameters for both hydrates has been also studied. Calculated from these results, the thermal expansivities for the structure H argon hydrate are alpha(a) = 76.6 K(-1) and alpha(c) = 77.4 K(-1) (in the 100-250 K temperature range) and for the cubic structure I methane hydrate are alpha(a) = 32.2 K(-1), alpha(a) = 53.0 K(-1), and alpha(a) = 73.5 K(-1) at 100, 150, and 200 K, respectively.  相似文献

INS (Inelastic Neutron Scattering) spectrum of methane hydrate was measured on MARI (a direct-geometry chopper spectrometer) at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, UK. Compared with ice Ih, it is found that the whole spectrum of methane hydrate moves toward high-energy by about 1.5 meV. Using lattice dynamical (LD) technique, computer simulations of methane hydrate were carried out. In the simulations, four potential models (BF, TIP3P, TIP4P, MCY) were employed to calculate the phonon density of states (PDOS). ...  相似文献

The effective thermal conductivities of gas-saturated porous methane hydrates were measured by a single-sided transient plane source (TPS) technique and simulated by a generalized fractal model of porous media that based on self-similarity.The density of porous hydrate, measured by the volume of the sample in the experimental system, was used to evaluate the porosity of methane hydrate samples. The fractal model was based on Sierpinski carpet,a thermal-electrical analogy technique and one-dimensional heat flow assumption. Both the experimental and computational results show the effective thermal conductivity of methane hydrate decreases with the porosity increase. The porosity of 0.3 can reduce the thermal conductivity of the methane hydrate by 25%.By analysis of the experimental data and the simulative result, the optimized thermal conductivity of the zero-porosity methane hydrate is about 0.7 W m-1K-1.  相似文献

The liquid-vapor-phase equilibrium properties of the previously developed TIP4P-Ew water model have been studied using thermodynamic integration free-energy simulation techniques in the temperature range of 274-400 K. We stress that free-energy results from simulations need to be corrected in order to be compared to the experiment. This is due to the fact that the thermodynamic end states accessible through simulations correspond to fictitious substances (classical rigid liquids and classical rigid ideal gases) while experiments operate on real substances (liquids and real gases, with quantum effects). After applying analytical corrections the vapor pressure curve obtained from simulated free-energy changes is in excellent agreement with the experimental vapor pressure curve. The boiling point of TIP4P-Ew water under ambient pressure is found to be at 370.3+/-1.9 K, about 7 K higher than the boiling point of TIP4P water (363.7+/-5.1 K; from simulations that employ finite range treatment of electrostatic and Lennard-Jones interactions). This is in contrast to the approximately +15 K by which the temperature of the density maximum and the melting temperature of TIP4P-Ew are shifted relative to TIP4P, indicating that the temperature range over which the liquid phase of TIP4P-Ew is stable is narrower than that of TIP4P and resembles more that of real water. The quality of the vapor pressure results highlights the success of TIP4P-Ew in describing the energetic and entropic aspects of intermolecular interactions in liquid water.  相似文献

Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations are performed to study the stability of structure H clathrate-hydrates of methane+large-molecule guest substance (LMGS) at temperatures of 270, 273, 278 and 280 K under canonical (NVT-) ensemble condition in a 3×3×3 structure H unit cell replica with 918 TIP4P water molecules. The studied LMGS are 2-methylbutane (2-MB), 2,3-dimethylbutane (2,3-DMB), neohexane (NH), methylcyclohexane (MCH), adamantane and tert-butyl methyl ether (TBME). In the process of MD simulation, achieving equilibrium of the studied system is recognized by stability in calculated pressure for NVT-ensemble. So, for the accuracy of MD simulations, the obtained pressures are compared with the experimental phase diagrams. Therefore, the obtained equilibrium pressures by MD simulations are presented for studying the structure H clathrate-hydrates. The results show that the calculated temperature and pressure conditions by MD simulations are consistent with the experimental phase diagrams. Also, the radial distribution functions (RDFs) of host-host, host-guest and guest-guest molecules are used to analysis the characteristic configurations of the structure H clathrate-hydrate.  相似文献

Molecular dynamics simulations of methane hydrate have been carried out using the polarizable AMOEBA and COS/G2 force fields. Properties calculated include the temperature dependence of the lattice constant, the OC and OO radial distribution functions, and the vibrational spectra. Both the AMOEBA and COS/G2 force fields are found to successfully account for the available experimental data, with overall somewhat better agreement with experiment being found for the AMOEBA model. Comparison is made with previous results obtained using TIP4P and SPC/E effective two-body force fields and the polarizable TIP4P-FQ force field, which allows for in-plane polarization only. Significant differences are found between the properties calculated using the TIP4P-FQ model and those obtained using the other models, indicating an inadequacy of restricting explicit polarization to in-plane only.  相似文献

A method of free energy calculation is proposed, which enables to cover a wide range of pressure and temperature. The free energies of proton-disordered hexagonal ice (ice Ih) and liquid water are calculated for the TIP4P [J. Chem. Phys. 79, 926 (1983)] model and the TIP5P [J. Chem. Phys. 112, 8910 (2000)] model. From the calculated free energy curves, we determine the melting point of the proton-disordered hexagonal ice at 0.1 MPa (atmospheric pressure), 50 MPa, 100 MPa, and 200 MPa. The melting temperatures at atmospheric pressure for the TIP4P ice and the TIP5P ice are found to be about T(m)=229 K and T(m)=268 K, respectively. The melting temperatures decrease as the pressure is increased, a feature consistent with the pressure dependence of the melting point for realistic proton-disordered hexagonal ice. We also calculate the thermal expansivity of the model ices. Negative thermal expansivity is observed at the low temperature region for the TIP4P ice, but not for the TIP5P ice at the ambient pressure.  相似文献
