The observation and the study of first-order phase transitions in cooperative spin-crossover (SCO) solids exhibiting hysteresis behaviours are of particular interest and currently constitute a burgeoning area in the field of bistable molecular materials. The understanding and the control of the transition mechanisms (nucleation and growth processes) and their dynamics within the hysteresis region appear to be a general and appealing problem from a fundamental point of view and for technological applications as well. This review reports on the recent progresses and most important findings made on the spatiotemporal dynamics of the spin transition in SCO solids, particularly through the universal nucleation and growth process. Both thermally induced and light-induced spin transitions are discussed. We open up this review to the central question of the evolution of the transition mechanisms and dynamics in SCO nano-objects, which constitute promising systems to reach ultra-fast switching, and the experimental issues inherent to such studies at the micro- and nanometric scale.  相似文献

Hybrid materials integrated with a variety of physical properties, such as spin crossover (SCO) and fluorescence, may show synergetic effects that find applications in many fields. Herein we demonstrate a promising post‐synthetic approach to achieve such materials by grafting fluorophores (1‐pyrenecarboxaldehyde and Rhodamine B) on one‐dimensional SCO FeII structures. The resulting hybrid materials display expected one‐step SCO behavior and fluorescent properties, in particular showing a coupling between the transition temperature of SCO and the temperature where the fluorescent intensity reverses. Consequently, synergetic effect between SCO and fluorescence is incorporated into materials despite different fluorophores. This study provides an effective strategy for the design and development of novel magnetic and optical materials.  相似文献

The study of paramagnetic compounds based on 4d and 5d transition metals is an emerging research topic in the field of molecular magnetism. An essential driving force for the interest in this area is the fact that heavier metal ions introduce important attributes to the physical properties of paramagnetic compounds. Among the attractive characteristics of heavier elements vis-à-vis magnetism are the diffuse nature of their d orbitals, their strong magnetic anisotropy owing to enhanced spin-orbit coupling, and their diverse structural and redox properties. This critical review is intended to introduce readers to the topic and to report recent progress in this area. It is not fully comprehensive in scope although we strived to include all relevant topics and a large subset of references in the area. Herein we provide a survey of the history and current status of research that has been conducted on the topic of second and third row transition metal molecular magnetism. The article is organized according to the nature of the precursor building blocks with special topics being highlighted as illustrations of the special role of heavier transition metal ions in the field. This paper is addressed to readers who are interested in molecular magnetism and the application of coordination chemistry principles to materials synthesis (231 references).  相似文献

In this study, we show that 1) different isomers of the same mononuclear iron(II) complex give materials with different spin‐crossover (hereafter SCO) properties, and 2) minor modifications of the bapbpy (bapbpy=N6,N6′‐di(pyridin‐2‐yl)‐2,2′‐bipyridine‐6,6′‐diamine) ligand allows SCO to be obtained near room temperature. We also provide a qualitative model to understand the link between the structure of bapbpy‐based ligands and the SCO properties of their iron(II) compounds. Thus, seven new trans‐[Fe{R2(bapbpy)}(NCS)2] compounds were prepared, in which the R2bapbpy ligand bears picoline ( 9 – 12 ), quin‐2‐oline ( 13 ), isoquin‐3‐oline ( 14 ), or isoquin‐1‐oline ( 15 ) substituents. From this series, three compounds ( 12 , 14 , and 15 ) have SCO properties, one of which ( 15 ) occurs at 288 K. The crystal structures of compounds 11 , 12 , and 15 show that the intermolecular interactions in these materials are similar to those found in the parent compound [Fe(bapbpy)(NCS)2] ( 1 ), in which each iron complex interacts with its neighbors through weak N? H ??? S hydrogen bonding and π–π stacking. For compounds 12 and 15 , hindering groups located near the N? H bridges weaken the N? S intermolecular interactions, which is correlated to non‐cooperative SCO. For compound 14 , the substitution is further away from the N? H bridges, and the SCO remains cooperative as in 1 with a hysteresis cycle. Optical microscopy photographs show the strikingly different spatio‐temporal evolution of the phase transition in the noncooperative SCO compound 12 relative to that found in 1 . Heat‐capacity measurements were made for compounds 1 , 12 , 14 , and 15 and fitted to the Sorai domain model. The number n of like‐spin SCO centers per interacting domain, which is related to the cooperativity of the spin transition, was found high for compounds 1 and 14 and low for compounds 12 and 15 . Finally, we found that although both pairs of compounds 11 / 12 and 14 / 15 are pairs of isomers their SCO properties are surprisingly different.  相似文献

Fundamental aspects of spin crossover (SCO) mechanisms are reviewed through considerations of ligand/crystal field theory, thermodynamics, and modeling of the thermoinduced spin transition in the solid state based on macroscopic–mesoscopic approaches . In particular, we highlight success of thermodynamic models in the simulation of first-order spin transitions with hysteretic behaviors (bistability) and multistep conversions. Bistability properties originate from elastic interactions, the so-called cooperativity between SCO molecules in the crystal packing. Although physical and chemical properties and thermodynamical quantities of noninteracting SCO compounds can be readily injected in macroscopic models, taking cooperativity into account remains problematic. The relationship between phenomenological numerical parameters and experimentally accessible quantities can only be most of the time indirectly established. Recent extensions of these thermodynamical models to grasp SCO properties at the nanoscale and combinations with ab initio numerical methods show that macroscopic models still constitute useful theoretical tools to investigate SCO phenomena. The necessity to further probe the thermomechanical properties of SCO materials is also emphasized.  相似文献

A major challenge is the development of multifunctional metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), wherein magnetic and electronic functionality can be controlled simultaneously. Herein, we rationally construct two 3D MOFs by introducing the redox active ligand tetra(4‐pyridyl)tetrathiafulvalene (TTF(py)4) and spin‐crossover FeII centers. The materials exhibit redox activity, in addition to thermally and photo‐induced spin crossover (SCO). A crystal‐to‐crystal transformation induced by I2 doping has also been observed and the resulting intercalated structure determined. The conductivity could be significantly enhanced (up to 3 orders of magnitude) by modulating the electronic state of the framework via oxidative doping; SCO behavior was also modified and the photo‐magnetic behavior was switched off. This work provides a new strategy to tune the spin state and conductivity of framework materials through guest‐induced redox‐state switching.  相似文献

Two polymorphic modifications 1 and 3 of binuclear compound [{Fe(dpia)(NCS)(2)}(2)(bpe)] and pseudo-polymorphic modification [{Fe(dpia)(NCS)(2)}(2)(bpe)]·2CH(3)OH (2), where dpia = di-(2-picolyl)amine, bpe = 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethene, were synthesized, and their structures, magnetic properties, and M?ssbauer spectra were studied. Variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements of three binuclear compounds show different types of magnetic behaviour. The complex 1 exhibits a gradual two-step spin crossover (SCO) suggesting the occurrence of the mixed [HS-LS] (HS: high spin, LS: low spin) pair at the plateau temperature (182 K), at which about 50% of the complexes undergoes a thermal spin conversion. The complex 2 displays an abrupt full one-step spin transition without hysteresis, centred at about 159 K. The complex 3 is paramagnetic over the temperature range 20-290 K. The single-crystal X-ray studies show that all three compounds are built up from the bpe-bridged binuclear molecules. The structure of 1 was solved for three spin isomers [HS-HS], [HS-LS], and [LS-LS] at three temperatures 300 K, 183 K, and 90 K. The crystal structures for 2 and 3 were determined for the [HS-HS] complexes at room temperature. The analysis of correlations between the structural characteristics and different types of magnetic behaviour for new 1-3 binuclear complexes, as well as for previously reported binuclear compounds, revealed that the SCO process (occurrence of full one-step, two-step, or partial (50%) SCO) is specified by the degree of distortion of the octahedral geometry of the [FeN(6)] core, caused by both packing and strain effects arising from terminal and/or bridging ligands. The comparison of the magnetic properties and the networks of intra- and inter-molecular interactions in the crystal lattice for the family of related SCO binuclear compounds suggests that the intermolecular interactions play a predominant role in the cooperativeness of the spin transition relative to the intramolecular interactions through the bridging ligand.  相似文献

One of the most important trends in the spin crossover (SCO) field is focused on the synthesis of new molecule-based functional materials in which the SCO properties may be combined with other physical or chemical properties in a synergic fashion. The current stage of investigations regarding interplay and synergic effects between SCO, magnetic coupling, liquid crystalline properties, host-guest interactions, non-linear optical properties, electrical conductivity, and ligand isomerization is highlighted and discussed.  相似文献

This contribution reports on the state of the art of the elaboration and the application of nanoparticles (NPs) and nanohybrid/nanocomposite materials based on spin-crossover (SCO) complexes. The first part of this review concerns the syntheses and the characterizations of the physical properties of SCO NPs. All of the methods including homogeneous and heterogeneous media syntheses developed for the elaboration of such NPs and the associated methods used for their morphological characterization are presented. A particular attention is paid on the effects of the size reduction and the influence of the environment on the SCO properties and to specific and recent remarkable advanced physical measurements realized on a batch of NPs or on an isolated object. The second part presents the elaboration of various nanocomposite or nanohybrid materials for which SCO NPs have been associated with magnetic entities, noble metals, different fluorescent dyes, and different active polymers with the objectives to go toward specific applications based on synergistic effects between the two components.  相似文献

Neutral–ionic (NI) phase transition is a reversible switching of organic charge-transfer complexes between distinct valence states by external stimuli. This phase transformation in the low-dimensional system is demonstrated to provide a variety of novel dielectric, structural, and electronic properties. Importantly, ionization of the electron donor–acceptor pairs is usually accompanied by a ferroelectric or antiferroelectric order of the molecular lattice, leading to huge dielectric response near the transition point. Although these characteristics are potentially useful for future electronic and optical applications, the thermally accessible NI transition (TINIT) is still an extremely rare case. The TINIT compounds including some new materials are overviewed in order to provide convenient guides to their design and experimental identifications. The phase transition and dielectric properties can be closely controlled in various ways depending on chemical and physical modifications of the crystals. Among them, a quantum phase transition and relaxor ferroelectricity, both of which are currently attracting subjects from both scientific and practical perspectives, are highlighted as the first achievements in organic charge-transfer complexes.  相似文献

Four-coordinate organoboron compounds with a π-conjugated chelate backbone have emerged recently as highly attractive materials for a number of applications including use as emitters and electron-transport materials for organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) or organic field transistors, photoresponsive materials, and sensory and imaging materials. Many applications of this class of boron compounds stem from the electronic properties of the π-conjugated chelate backbone. Charge-transfer transitions from an aromatic substituent attached to the boron center of the π-conjugated chelate backbone and steric congestion have also been found to play important roles in the luminescent and photochromic properties of the four-coordinate boron compounds. This article provides an update-to-date account on the application aspects of this important class of compounds in materials science with the emphasis on OLED applications and photochromic switching.  相似文献

A new family of neutral mononuclear iron(II) spin crossover (SCO) compounds, Fe(L1??)? (L1?? = N'-((pyridin-2-yl)methylene)benzohydrazide (HL1), N'-(1-(pyridin-2-yl)ethylidene)-benzohydrazide (HL2), N'-(phenyl(pyridin-2-yl)methylene)benzohydrazide (HL3), 2-hydroxy-N'-((pyridin-2-yl)methylene)benzohydrazide (HL?), 2-hydroxy-N'-(1-(pyridin-2-yl)ethylidene)benzohydrazide (HL?), 2-hydroxy-N'-(phenyl(pyridin-2-yl)methylene)benzohydrazide (HL?)) with N?O? donor sets have been synthesized from series tridentate Schiff base ligands with N,N,O donor sets. The investigation of magnetic properties of these compounds reveal that in the measured temperature range, compound 1 is in the high-spin (HS) state, and compound 3 and 6 are mainly in the low-spin (LS) state, whereas the other compounds exhibit various SCO properties: compound 2 undergoes a gradual incomplete SCO with characteristic temperature T(1/2) higher than 350 K; compound 4 exhibits a special stepwise thermally induced SCO occurring at ~150 K (smooth) and 200 K (two-steps, with T(S1↑/↓) = 204/202 K and T(S2↑/↓) = 227/219 K) with a mixture of the HS and LS states yielded below 100 K; compound 5 shows a gradual and complete LS?HS SCO with characteristic temperature T(1/2) = 273 K. All the three SCO compounds show the LIESST (light induced exited spin state trapping) effect with different levels of photoconversion. To thoroughly analyze these behaviours, M?ssbauer spectra and DSC of 4 and 5, crystal structures of all the compounds at 290 K and 5 in the LS state at 110 K were carried out, which confirmed the structural changes accompanying the spin transition. In addition, alkyl substitution effect on the ligand field was suggested for this system.  相似文献

The use of polynitrile anions as ligands (L) either alone or in combination with neutral co-ligands (L′) is a very promising and appealing strategy to get molecular architectures with different topologies and dimensionalities thanks to their ability to coordinate and bridge metal ions in many different ways. The presence of several potentially coordinating nitrile groups (or even other donor groups as –OH, –SH or –NH2), their rigidity and their electronic delocalization allow the synthesis of original magnetic high dimensional coordination polymers with transition metals ions. Furthermore, these ligands have shown coordinating and bridging capabilities in novel discrete and polymeric bistable materials (materials showing original magnetic behaviours or spin crossover (SCO) transitions). Here we report an overview of the results obtained with some of these modified polynitrile ligands, showing their rich coordination chemistry and their crucial role in new molecular materials exhibiting unusual magnetic transitions.  相似文献

This review is focused on the downsizing effect of a family of Hofmann-type Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs) exhibiting Spin-Crossover Phenomenon (SCO) at high temperatures. Their nanoscale importance is currently under investigation concerning their multifunctional activity combining different properties such as magnetic, electrical, optical, or mechanical. General strategies for the fabrication of these materials in nanoscale will be presented as well as the development and optimization of thin film growth and nanopatterning methods. An analytical study of 2-D and 3-D tetracyanometallates SCO MOFs prepared both in their bulk form as well as nanoparticles will be outlined and the correlation of their magnetic properties with both their structures and sizes will be discussed.  相似文献

The diversity of spin crossover (SCO) complexes that, on the one hand, display variable temperature, abruptness and hysteresis of the spin transition, and on the other hand, are spin‐sensitive to the various guest molecules, makes these materials unique for the detection of different organic and inorganic compounds. We have developed a homochiral SCO coordination polymer with a spin transition sensitive to the inclusion of the guest 2‐butanol, and these solvates with (R)‐ and (S)‐alcohols demonstrate different SCO behaviours depending on the chirality of the organic analyte. A stereoselective response to the guest inclusion is detected as a shift in the temperature of the transition both from dia‐ to para‐ and from para‐ to diamagnetic states in heating and cooling modes respectively. Furthermore, the Mössbauer spectroscopy directly visualizes how the metallic centres in a chiral coordination framework differently sense the interaction with guests of different chiralities.  相似文献

Spin crossover (SCO) coordination compounds that show bistability between low spin and high spin states are promising light-controllable molecular switches. Selective wavelength irradiation of the coordination centre at low temperatures is known as a light-induced excited spin state trapping (LIESST effect) and it leads to the modulation of physical properties of SCO materials on the macroscopic as well as on the molecular level. Another way to trigger the spin state conversion by light is based on the isomerization of photoactive ligand moieties. The ligand field strength is changed due to light-induced photoisomerization and, therefore, corresponding cistrans or ring-closing/ring-opening isomeric couples might exhibit different spin states at isothermal conditions. Such an approach is called as ligand driven light-induced spin change (LD LISC effect). From the application point of view, it presents a promising alternative to the LIESST effect because it can operate at room temperature. This article is focused on the most interesting iron and cobalt SCO compounds with photoisomerizable ligands and provides the overview of achieving results based on the LD LISC effect.  相似文献

Spin-crossover (SCO) magnets can act as one of the most possible building blocks in molecular spintronics due to their magnetic bistability between the high-spin (HS) and low-spin (LS) states. Here, the electronic structures and transport properties through SCO magnet Fe(Ⅱ)-N4S2 complexes sandwiched between gold electrodes are explored by performing extensive density functional theory calculations combined with non-equilibrium Green's function formalism. The optimized Fe-N and Fe-S distances and predicted magnetic moment of the SCO magnet Fe(Ⅱ)-N4S2 complexes agree well with the experimental results. The reversed spin transition between the HS and LS states can be realized by visible light irradiation according to the estimated SCO energy barriers. Based on the obtained transport results, we observe nearly perfect spin-filtering effect in this SCO magnet Fe(Ⅱ)-N4S2 junction with the HS state, and the corresponding current under small bias voltage is mainly contributed by the spin-down electrons, which is obviously larger than that of the LS case. Clearly, these theoretical findings suggest that SCO magnet Fe(Ⅱ)-N4S2 complexes hold potential applications in molecular spintronics.  相似文献

Work in mesoporous silica-based materials began in the early 1990s with work by Mobil. These materials had pore sizes from 20-500 A and surface areas of up to 1500 m(2) g(-1) and were synthesized by a novel liquid crystal templating approach. Researchers subsequently extended this strategy to the synthesis of mesoporous transition metal oxides, a class of materials useful in catalysis, electronic, and magnetic applications because of variable oxidation states, and populated d-bands-features not found in silicates. These materials are already showing promise in electronic and optical applications hinging on the semiconducting properties of transition metal oxides and their potential to act as electron acceptors, an important feature in the design of cathodic materials. This is the first general review of non-silicate mesoporous materials and will focus on recent advances in this area, emphasizing materials possessing unique electronic, magnetic, or optical properties. Also covered are advances in the synthesis and applications of mesostructured sulfides as well as a new class of template-synthesized platinum-based materials that show promise in heterogeneous catalysis.  相似文献

Foremost, practical applications of spin-crossover (SCO) materials require control of the nature of the spin-state coupling. In existing SCO materials, there is a single, well-defined dimensionality relevant to the switching behavior. A new material, consisting of 1,2,4-triazole-based trimers coordinated into 1D chains by [Au(CN)2] and spaced by anions and exchangeable guests, underwent SCO defined by elastic coupling across multiple dimensional hierarchies. Detailed structural, vibrational, and theoretical studies conclusively confirmed that intra-trimer coupling was an order of magnitude greater than the intramolecular coupling, which was an order of magnitude greater than intermolecular coupling. As such, a clear hierarchy on the nature of elastic coupling in SCO materials was ascertained for the first time, which is a necessary step for the technological development of molecular switching materials.  相似文献
