We prove sharp homogeneous improvements to L 1 weighted Hardy inequalities involving distance from the boundary. In the case of a smooth domain, we obtain lower and upper estimates for the best constant of the remainder term. These estimates are sharp in the sense that they coincide when the domain is a ball or an infinite strip. In the case of a ball, we also obtain further improvements.  相似文献

About 50 years ago M.H. Protter introduced boundary value problems that are multidimensional analogues of the classical plane Morawetz problems for equations of mixed hyperbolic-elliptic type that model transonic fluid flows. Up to now there are no general existence results for the Protter-Morawetz multidimensional problems, and an understanding of the situation is not at hand. At the same time, Protter also formulated boundary value problems in the hyperbolic part of the domain??the nonhomogeneous wave equation is studied in a (3+1)-D domain bounded by two characteristic cones and a non-characteristic ball. These problems could be considered as multidimensional variants of the Darboux problem in ?2. In the frame of classical solvability the hyperbolic Protter problem is not Fredholm, because it has an infinite-dimensional cokernel. On the other hand, it is known that the unique generalized solution of a Protter problem may have a strong power-type singularity even for some very smooth right-hand side functions. This singularity is isolated at the vertex O of the boundary light cone and does not propagate along the characteristic cone. In the general case of smooth right-hand side function, some necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a bounded solution are given and a priori estimates for the solution are found. The semi-Fredholm solvability of the problem is proved.  相似文献

We consider an evolution which starts as a flow of smooth surfaces in nonparametric form propagating in space with normal speed equal to the mean curvature of the current surface. The boundaries of the surfaces are assumed to remain fixed. G. Huisken has shown that if the boundary of the domain over which this flow is considered satisfies the “mean curvature” condition of H. Jenkins and J. Serrin (that is, the boundary of the domain is convex “in the mean”) then the corresponding initial boundary value problem with Dirichlet boundary data and smooth initial data admits a smooth solution for all time. In this paper we consider the case of arbitrary domains with smooth boundaries not necessarily satisfying the condition of Jenkins-Serrin. In this case, even if the flow starts with smooth initial data and homogeneous Dirichlet boundary data, singularities may develop in finite time at the boundary of the domain and the solution will not satisfy the boundary condition. We prove, however, existence of solutions that are smooth inside the domain for all time and become smooth up to the boundary after elapsing of a sufficiently long period of time. From that moment on such solutions assume the boundary values in the classical sense. We also give sufficient conditions that guarantee the existence of classical solutions for all time t ≧ 0. In addition, we establish estimates of the rate at which solutions tend to zero as t → ∞.  相似文献

Let D be a bounded domain in C 2 with a non-compact group of holomorphic automorphisms. Model domains for D are obtained under the hypotheses that at least one orbit accumulates at a boundary point near which the boundary is smooth, real analytic and of finite type. Maxwell's boundary value problem for the time-harmonic case in a smooth, bounded domain G of R 2 is considered. The optimal asymptotic L2(G) and H1(G)-error estimates 0(h2) and 0(h) resp, are derived for a piecewise linear finite element solution.  相似文献

Let D be a bounded domain in C n (n>1) with a connected smooth boundary D and let f be a continuous function on D. We consider conditions (generalizing those of the Hartogs–Bochner theorem) for holomorphic extendability of f to D. As a corollary we derive some boundary analog of Morera's theorem claiming that if the integrals of f vanish over the intersection of the boundary of the domain with complex curves in some class then f extends holomorphically to the domain.  相似文献

We show that a Lipschitz domain can be expanded solely near a part of its boundary, assuming that the part is enclosed by a piecewise C 1 curve. The expanded domain as well as the extended part are both Lipschitz. We apply this result to prove a regular decomposition of standard vector Sobolev spaces with vanishing traces only on part of the boundary. Another application in the construction of low-regularity projectors into finite element spaces with partial boundary conditions is also indicated.  相似文献

In this paper, we prove the Saint‐Venant compatibility conditions in Lp for p∈(1,+), in a simply connected domain of any space dimension. As a consequence, alternative, simple, and direct proofs of some classical Korn inequalities in Lp are provided. We also use the Helmholtz decomposition in Lp to show that every symmetric tensor in a smooth domain can be decomposed in a compatible part, which is the symmetric part of a displacement gradient, and in an incompatible part, which is the incompatibility of a certain divergence‐free tensor. Moreover, under a suitable Dirichlet boundary condition, this Beltrami‐type decomposition is proved to be unique. This decomposition result has several applications, one of which being in dislocation models, where the incompatibility part is related to the dislocation density and where 1 < p < 2. This justifies the need to generalize and prove these rather classical results in the Hilbertian case (p = 2), to the full range p∈(1,+). Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

It is shown that a domain in C N with piecewise smooth boundary (and also of some more general shape) is a domain of holomorphy, provided the Levi form at every regular point is positively semidefinite and the tangent cone is convex at every point outside a boundary subset of zero Hausdorff (2N-2)-dimensional measure.  相似文献

We consider the incompressible Euler equations in a (possibly multiply connected) bounded domain Ω of R2, for flows with bounded vorticity, for which Yudovich (1963) proved in [29] global existence and uniqueness of the solution. We prove that if the boundary ∂Ω of the domain is C (respectively Gevrey of order M?1) then the trajectories of the fluid particles are C (respectively Gevrey of order M+2). Our results also cover the case of “slightly unbounded” vorticities for which Yudovich (1995) extended his analysis in [30]. Moreover if in addition the initial vorticity is Hölder continuous on a part of Ω then this Hölder regularity propagates smoothly along the flow lines. Finally we observe that if the vorticity is constant in a neighborhood of the boundary, the smoothness of the boundary is not necessary for these results to hold.  相似文献

The harmonic problem in a cracked domain is studied in R m , m?>?2. The boundary of the domain is assumed to be nonsmooth, while cracks are smooth. The Dirichlet condition is specified on the boundary of the domain. Jumps of the unknown function and its normal derivative are specified on the cracks. Uniqueness and solvability results are obtained. The problem is reduced to the uniquely solvable integral equation, its solution is given explicitely in the form of a series. The estimates of the solution of the problem depending on the boundary data are obtained.  相似文献

In this paper, an iterative algorithm for solving singular nonlinear two-point boundary value problems is formulated. This method is basically a collocation method for nonlinear second-order two-point boundary value problems with singularities at either one or both of the boundary points. It is proved that the iterative algorithm converges to a smooth approximate solution of the BVP provided the boundary value problem is well posed and the algorithm is applied appropriately. Error estimates for uniform partitions are also investigated. It has been shown that, for sufficiently smooth solutions, the method produces order h4 approximations. Numerical examples are provided to show the effectiveness of the algorithm.  相似文献

The Busemann-equation is a classical equation coming from fluid dynamics. The well-posed problem and regularity of solution of Busemann-equation with nonlinear term are interesting and important. The Busemann-equation is elliptic in y>0 and is degenerate at the line y=0 in R2. With a special nonlinear absorb term, we study a nonlinear degenerate elliptic equation with mixed boundary conditions in a piecewise smooth domain. By means of elliptic regularization technique, a delicate prior estimate and compact argument, we show that the solution of mixed boundary value problem of Busemann-equation is smooth in the interior and Lipschitz continuous up to the degenerate boundary on some conditions. The result is better than the result of classical boundary degenerate elliptic equation.  相似文献

We consider approximation by partial time steps of a smooth solution of the Navier-Stokes equations in a smooth domain in two or three space dimensions with no-slip boundary condition. For small k > 0, we alternate the solution for time k of the inviscid Euler equations, with tangential boundary condition, and the solution of the linear Stokes equations for time k, with the no-slip condition imposed. We show that this approximation remains bounded in H2,p and is accurate to order k in Lp for p > ∞. The principal difficulty is that the initial state for each Stokes step has tangential velocity at the boundary generated during the Euler step, and thus does not satisfy the boundary condition for the Stokes step. The validity of such a fractional step method or splitting is an underlying principle for some computational methods. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

This paper is devoted to the study of the subspace ofW m,r of functions that vanish on a part γ 0 of the boundary. The author gives a crucial estimate of the Poincaré constant in balls centered on the boundary of γ 0. Then, the convolution-translation method, a variant of the standard mollifier technique, can be used to prove the density of smooth functions that vanish in a neighborhood of γ 0, in this subspace. The result is first proved for m = 1, then generalized to the case where m ≥ 1, in any dimension, in the framework of Lipschitz-continuous domain. However, as may be expected, it is needed to make additional assumptions on the boundary of γ 0, namely that it is locally the graph of some Lipschitz-continuous function.  相似文献

We analyze boundary value problems prescribing Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions for a nonlocal nonlinear diffusion operator which is analogous to the porous medium equation in a bounded smooth domain ΩRN with N≥1. First, we prove existence and uniqueness of solutions and the validity of a comparison principle for these problems. Next, we impose boundary data that blow up in finite time and study the behavior of the solutions.  相似文献
