Let n≥23 be an integer and let D2n be the dihedral group of order 2n. It is proved that, if g1,g2,…,g3n is a sequence of 3n elements in D2n, then there exist 2n distinct indices i1,i2,…,i2n such that gi1gi2?gi2n=1. This result is a sharpening of the famous Erd?s-Ginzburg-Ziv theorem for G=D2n. 相似文献

The primitive normal basis theorem asks whether every finite field extension has a primitive normal basis of this extension. The proof of this problem has recently been completed by Lenstra and Schoof (1987) [6], and another proof is given by Cohen and Huczynska (2003) [3]. We present a more general result, where the primitive element generating a normal basis is replaced by a primitive element generating the finite Carlitz module. In 1975 Szemerédi proved that a set of integers of positive upper density contains arbitrarily long arithmetic progressions. Bergelson and Leibman showed in 1996 that the common difference of the arithmetic progression can be a square, a cube, or more generally of the form p(n) where p(n) is any integer polynomial with zero constant term. We produce a variety of new results of this type related to sequences that are not polynomial. We show that the common difference of the progression in Szemerédi's theorem can be of the form [nδ] where δ is any positive real number and [x] denotes the integer part of x. More generally, the common difference can be of the form [a(n)] where a(x) is any function that is a member of a Hardy field and satisfies a(x)/xk→∞ and a(x)/xk+1→0 for some non-negative integer k. The proof combines a new structural result for Hardy sequences, techniques from ergodic theory, and some recent equidistribution results of sequences on nilmanifolds. 相似文献

We extend the result of Lavrentiev which asserts that the harmonic measure and the arc-length measure are A∞ equivalent in a chord-arc Jordan domain. By using this result we extend the classical result of Lindelöf to the class of quasiconformal (q.c.) harmonic mappings by proving the following assertion. Assume that f is a quasiconformal harmonic mapping of the unit disk U onto a Jordan domain. Then the function A(z)=arg?(∂φ(f(z))/z) where z=reiφ, is well-defined and smooth in U?={z:0<|z|<1} and has a continuous extension to the boundary of the unit disk if and only if the image domain has C1 boundary. 相似文献

For a nontrivial additive character and a multiplicative character of the finite field withq elements, the Gauss sums (trg) overgSp(2n,q) and (detg)(trg) overgGSp(2n, q) are considered. We show that it can be expressed as a polynomial inq with coefficients involving powers of Kloosterman sums for the first one and as that with coefficients involving sums of twisted powers of Kloosterman sums for the second one. As a result, we can determine certain generalized Kloosterman sums over nonsingular matrices and generalized Kloosterman sums over nonsingular alternating matrices, which were previously determined by J. H. We prove a relative version of the theorem of Webb that the augmented chain complex of the p-subgroup complex of a finite group, considered as a complex of modules for the group, is homotopy equivalent to a complex of projectives. We show that a finite completely regular semigroup has a sub-log-exponential free spectrum if and only if it is locally orthodox and has nilpotent subgroups. As a corollary, it follows that the Seif Conjecture holds true for completely regular monoids. In the process, we derive solutions of word problems of free objects in a sequence of varieties of locally orthodox completely regular semigroups from solutions of word problems in relatively free bands. 相似文献

Some fundamental questions about infinite-vertex (free) profinite semigroupoids are clarified, putting in evidence differences with the finite-vertex case. This is done with examples of free profinite semigroupoids generated by the graph of a subshift. Eisenstein polynomials, which were defined by Oura, are analogues of the concept of an Eisenstein series. Oura conjectured that there exist some analogous properties between Eisenstein series and Eisenstein polynomials. In this paper, we provide new analogous properties of Eisenstein polynomials and zeta polynomials. These properties are finite analogies of certain properties of Eisenstein series. 相似文献

We present simple trace formulas for Hecke operators Tk(p) for all p>3 on Sk(Γ0(3)) and Sk(Γ0(9)), the spaces of cusp forms of weight k and levels 3 and 9. These formulas can be expressed in terms of special values of Gaussian hypergeometric series and lend themselves to recursive expressions in terms of traces of Hecke operators on spaces of lower weight. Along the way, we show how to express the traces of Frobenius of a family of elliptic curves equipped with a 3-torsion point as special values of a Gaussian hypergeometric series over Fq, when . As an application, we use these formulas to provide a simple expression for the Fourier coefficients of η8(3z), the unique normalized cusp form of weight 4 and level 9, and then show that the number of points on a certain threefold is expressible in terms of these coefficients. 相似文献

We use a simple example (the projective plane on seven points) to give an introductory survey on the problems and methods in finite geometries — an area of mathematics related to geometry, combinatorial theory, algebra, group theory and number theory as well as to applied mathematics (e.g., coding theory, information theory, statistical design of experiments, tomography, cryptography, etc.). As this list already indicates, finite geometries is — both from the point of view of pure mathematics and from that of applications related to computer science and communication engineering — one of the most interesting and active fields of mathematics. The probability measures on compact Hausdorff spaces K form a compact convex subset PK of the space of measures with the vague topology. Every continuous map of compact Hausdorff spaces induces a continuous affine map extending f. Together with the canonical embedding associating to every point its Dirac measure and the barycentric map β associating to every probability measure on PK its barycenter, we obtain a monad (P,ε,β). The Eilenberg-Moore algebras of this monad have been characterised to be the compact convex sets embeddable in locally convex topological vector spaces by Swirszcz [T. Swirszcz, Monadic functors and convexity, Bul. Acad. Polon. Sci. Sér. Sci. Math. Astron. Phys. 22 (1974) 39-42].We generalise this result to compact ordered spaces in the sense of Nachbin [L. Nachbin, Topology and Order, Von Nostrand, Princeton, NJ, 1965. Translated from the 1950 monograph “Topologia e Ordem” (in Portugese). Reprinted by Robert E. Kreiger Publishing Co., Huntington, NY, 1967]. The probability measures form again a compact ordered space when endowed with the stochastic order. The maps ε and β are shown to preserve the stochastic orders. Thus, we obtain a monad over the category of compact ordered spaces and order preserving continuous maps. The algebras of this monad are shown to be the compact convex ordered sets embeddable in locally convex ordered topological vector spaces.This result can be seen as a step towards the characterisation of the algebras of the monad of probability measures on the category of stably compact spaces (see [G.
