We relate Artin's braid groupB =limBn to a certain groupF′ ofpl-homeomorphisms of the interval. Namely, there exists a short exact sequence 1→B AF′→1 whereH kA=0,k≥1.  相似文献

The main object of this note is to prove the following generalisation of a theorem of Serre. A simply connected space of finite type whose mod. 2 cohomology is nilpotent (and non-trivial) has infinitely many homotopy groups which are not of odd torsion. Incidentally we show that for every fibrationF( ί )E ( p )B, satisfying certain mild conditions, the following holds. If a classx in the mod. 2 cohomology ofE belongs to the kernel ofi*, then some power ofx belongs to the ideal generated by the image underp* of the mod. 2 reduced cohomology ofB.   相似文献

In this paper we study the connection between the metric projection operator PK : B →K, where B is a reflexive Banach space with dual space B^* and K is a non-empty closed convex subset of B, and the generalized projection operators ∏K : B → K and πK : B^* → K. We also present some results in non-reflexive Banach spaces.  相似文献

Torsion-free covers are considered for objects in the category q 2. Objects in the category q 2 are just maps in R-Mod. For R = ℤ, we find necessary and sufficient conditions for the coGalois group G(AB), associated to a torsion-free cover, to be trivial for an object AB in q 2. Our results generalize those of E. Enochs and J. Rado for abelian groups.  相似文献

The chaos caused by a strong-mixing preserving transformation is discussed and it is shown that for a topological spaceX satisfying the second axiom of countability and for an outer measurem onX satisfying the conditions: (i) every non-empty open set ofX ism-measurable with positivem-measure; (ii) the restriction ofm on Borel σ-algebra ℬ(X) ofX is a probability measure, and (iii) for everyYX there exists a Borel setB⊂ℬ(X) such thatBY andm(B) =m(Y), iff:XX is a strong-mixing measure-preserving transformation of the probability space (X, ℬ(X),m), and if {m}, is a strictly increasing sequence of positive integers, then there exists a subsetCX withm (C) = 1, finitely chaotic with respect to the sequence {m i}, i.e. for any finite subsetA ofC and for any mapF:AX there is a subsequencer i such that limi→∞ f r i(a) =F(a) for anyaA. There are some applications to maps of one dimension. the National Natural Science Foundation of China.  相似文献

Let F be a field of characteristic ≠2 and φ be a quadratic form over F. By X φ we denote the projective variety given by the equation φ=0. For each positive even integer d≥8 (except for d=12) we construct a field F and a pair φ, ψ of anisotropic d-dimensional forms over F such that the Chow motives of X φ and X ψ coincide but . For a pair of anisotropic (2 n -1)-dimensional quadrics X and Y, we prove that existence of a rational morphism YX is equivalent to existence of a rational morphism YX. The following result is proved: letE be anF-space (that is, the space of all continuous affine functions defined on a compact universal cap van shing at zero) and letMχE be anM-ideal. Then, ifE/M is a π1 with positive defining projections, then there is a positive linear operator ϱ:E/M→E of norm one such that ϱ lifts the canonical mapE→E/M. In the proof, which heavily depends on work of Ando, we study ensor products of certain convex cones with compact bases, and we calculate the norm of a positive linear operator defined on a finite dimensional space with range in aF-space. Various corollaries are deduced for split faces of compact convex sets and for morphisms ofC *-algebras.  相似文献

F: ℝ2 → ℝ2 is an almost-area-preserving map if: (a) F is a topological embedding, not necessarily surjective; and (b) there exists a constant s > 0 such that for every measurable set B, μ(F(B)) = sμ(B) where μ is the Lebesgue measure. We study when a differentiable map whose Jacobian determinant is nonzero constant to be an almost-area-preserving map. In particular, if for all z, the eigenvalues of the Jacobian matrix DF z are constant, F is an almost-area-preserving map with convex image.  相似文献

The paper considers some aspects of the preservation of a fibrationFEB by a localization functorL, meaning thatLFLELB is also a fibration. We obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for this, in caseL is equivalent to a nullification functorP W . Applications include the fact that if such a fibration is preserved by a nullification, then so too are all of its pullbacks. Another application is a homological criterion for a fibration to be preserved. No similar results are known for general localization functors.  相似文献

Let Out(F n ) denote the outer automorphism group of the free group F n with n>3. We prove that for any finite index subgroup Γ<Out(F n ), the group Aut(Γ) is isomorphic to the normalizer of Γ in Out(F n ). We prove that Γ is co-Hopfian: every injective homomorphism Γ→Γ is surjective. Finally, we prove that the abstract commensurator Comm(Out(F n )) is isomorphic to Out(F n ).  相似文献

Let ϕ:YX be a morphism of finite type between schemes of locally finite type over a non-Archimedean fieldk, and letF be an étale constructible sheaf onY. In [Ber2] we proved that if the torsion orders ofF are prime to the characteristic of the residue field ofk then the canonical homomorphisms (R Q ϱ*F)anR q ϱ * an F an are isomorphisms. In this paper we extend the above result to the class of sheavesF with torsion orders prime to the characteristic ofk.  相似文献

Given two Banach spaces E,F, let B(E,F) be the set of all bounded linear operators from E into F, Σ r the set of all operators of finite rank r in B(E,F), and Σ r # the number of path connected components of Σ r . It is known that Σ r is a smooth Banach submanifold in B(E,F) with given expression of its tangent space at each A ∈ Σ r . In this paper, the equality Σ r # = 1 is proved. Consequently, the following theorem is obtained: for any nonnegative integer r, Σ r is a smooth and path connected Banach submanifold in B(E,F) with the tangent space T A Σ r = {BB(E,F): BN(A) ⊂ R(A)} at each A ∈ Σ r if dim F = ∞. Note that the routine method can hardly be applied here. So in addition to the nice topological and geometric property of Σ r the method presented in this paper is also interesting. As an application of this result, it is proved that if E = ℝ n and F = ℝ m , then Σ r is a smooth and path connected submanifold of B(ℝ n , ℝ m ) and its dimension is dimΣ r = (m+n)rr 2 for each r, 0 <- r < min {n,m}. Let F n be the free group of rank n, and let Aut+(F n ) be its special automorphism group. For an epimorphism π : F n G of the free group F n onto a finite group G we call the standard congruence subgroup of Aut+(F n ) associated to G and π. In the case n = 2 we fully describe the abelianization of Γ+(G, π) for finite abelian groups G. Moreover, we show that if G is a finite non-perfect group, then Γ+(G, π) ≤ Aut+(F 2) has infinite abelianization.  相似文献

LetG be an Abelian group written additively,B a finite subset ofG, and lett be a positive integer. Fort≦|B|, letB t denote the set of sums oft distinct elements overB. Furthermore, letK be a subgroup ofG and let σ denote the canonical homomorphism σ:G→G/K. WriteB t (modB t) forB tσ and writeB t (modK) forBσ. The following addition theorem in groups is proved. LetG be an Abelian group with no 2-torsion and letB a be finite subset ofG. Ift is a positive integer such thatt<|B| then |B t (modK)|≧|B (modK)| for any finite subgroupK ofG.  相似文献

Let R be a complete discrete valuation ring with mixed characteristic. Denote by K its field of fractions and by k its residue field. Let 0 →A K B K C K → 0 be an exact sequence of abelian varieties over K and consider the corresponding complex of Nérons models 0 →ABC→ 0, over R. We assume that the identity component B k 0 of the special fibre B k of B is a torus and we study the defect of exactmess at B in this last sequence.

A mapping ϕ of a groupG to a groupF is said to be polynomial if it trivializes after several consecutive applications of operatorsD h ,hG, defined byD h ϕ(g)=ϕ(g) −1 ϕ(gh). We study polynomial mappings of groups, mainly to nilpotent groups. In particular, we prove that polynomial mappings to a nilpotent group form a group with respect to the elementwise multiplication, and that any polynomial mappingGF to a nilpotent groupF splits into a homomorphismGG’ to a nilpotent groupG’ and a polynomial mappingG’F. We apply the obtained results to prove the existence of the compact/weak mixing decomposition of a Hilbert space under a unitary polynomial action of a finitely generated nilpotent group. Iff: Σ A → Σ A is an endomorphism of an irreducible shift of finite type, andp is a rational prime which divides the degree off, thenp divides every non-leading coefficient of χA. We also give constraints on the possible degrees of finite-to-one factor maps between shifts of finite type.  相似文献

We prove a structure theorem for locally finite connected graphsX with infinitely many ends admitting a non-compact group of automorphisms which is transitive in its action on the space of ends, Ω X . For such a graphX, there is a uniquely determined biregular treeT (with both valencies finite), a continuous representationφ : Aut(X) → Aut(T) with compact kernel, an equivariant homeomorphism λ : Ω X → Ω T , and an equivariant map τ : Vert(X) → Vert(T) with finite fibers. Boundary-transitive trees are described, and some methods of constructing boundary-transitive graphs are discussed, as well as some examples.  相似文献
