Complete photonic band gaps (PBGs) are found in one-dimensional ternary photonic crystals (1D TPCs) composed of an ordinary dielectric and single negative metamaterials. The proposed TPC gives omni directional PBG completely independent of polarizations dependent weekly on angle of incidence. Here the choice of different parameters of TPC is done in such a way so that it eliminates the Brewster's-angle transmission resonance, thus allowing a complete 3D PBG. It exhibits a photonic band or gap near frequencies where either the magnetic permeability or the electric permittivity of the metamaterial changes sign, whose width increases with the increasing angle of incidence. These result from the dispersive properties of the metamaterials and disappear for the particular case of propagation along the stratification direction. The results are discussed in terms of incident angle, layer thickness, dielectric constant of the dielectric material for TE and TM polarizations.  相似文献

We carry out first-principles calculations of the nonlinear dielectric response of short-period ferroelectric superlattices. We compute and store not only the total polarization, but also the Wannier-based polarizations of individual atomic layers, as a function of the electric displacement field, and use this information to construct a model capable of predicting the nonlinear dielectric response of an arbitrary superlattice sequence. We demonstrate the successful application of our approach to superlattices composed of SrTiO3, CaTiO3, and BaTiO3 layers.  相似文献

We consider the oblique propagation of electromagnetic waves in one-dimensional plasma dielectric photonic crystals, the superlattice structure consisting of alternating plasma and dielectric materials using transfer matrix method. Our results show that photonic band gaps for all polarizations can be obtained in one-dimensional plasma dielectric photonic crystals. These structures can exhibit a new type of band or gap, for the incidence angles other than normal incidence, near frequencies where the electric permittivity of the plasma layer changes sign. This new band or gap arises, from the dispersive properties of the plasma layer, only for TM polarized waves and its width increases with the increasing angle of incidence. This differential behaviour under polarization can be utilized in the design of an efficient polarization splitter. The band characteristic is affected by the plasma width, the plasma density, dielectric width, the dielectric constant of the dielectric medium and angle of incidence.  相似文献

This paper reports on the results of the investigation into the structure of elastic and electric fields induced near the boundary of the X cut of a lithium niobate crystal during the formation of a photorefractive grating with a wave vector K parallel to the threefold symmetry axis due to the photovoltaic effect. The elastic and electric fields induced by the photorefractive grating and the changes in the components of the dielectric impermeability tensor of the lithium niobate crystal at the frequency of the light wave are calculated using numerical analysis. It is demonstrated that light waves with orthogonal polarizations can effectively interact at a photorefractive grating formed near the electrically short-circuited boundary of a lithium niobate crystal.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a model to study the thermal and dielectric properties of a monolayer naphthalene-like nanoisland. The ferrielectric mixed spin (1, 7/2) Blume-Capel Ising model has been studied, using Monte Carlo simulations under the Metropolis algorithm. The ground state phase diagrams, in the absence of temperature, are investigated. Moreover, we illustrated the thermal and dielectric properties as a function of temperature, for fixed values of the other parameters. On the other hand, we examine the effects of the exchange coupling interactions on the compensation and blocking temperatures. In addition, we explore the effects of crystal and external longitudinal electric fields on total polarizations.  相似文献

The author investigated second-harmonic (SH) wave patterns generated by focused vortex beams with radial and azimuthal polarizations. Expressions for electric field components near the focus through a dielectric interface were obtained based on vector diffraction theory. Furthermore, the (110) and (001) planes of a crystal classified in the symmetry group 4?3m were considered as second order nonlinear optical medium to analyze nonlinear polarization and the intensity distributions of the SH wave in the far-field were simulated for topological charge m = 1 and 2. Numerical simulations indicated that the intensity and emission pattern of the SH wave depended principally on the electric field component and distribution near the focus. In particular, for the (001) plane, the intensity of the SH wave was strongly correlated with the existence of a longitudinal electric field.  相似文献

Ferroelectric strontium barium niobate (SBN) powder was synthesized by solid-state route. The green compacts were sintered in the temperature range 1250–1350 °C in a microwave furnace. The microstructural study, using SEM, revealed the grain size in the range 2–20 μm without microcracks, depending on the sintering temperature. This is in contrast to that obtained conventionally for sintered SBN powder synthesized by solid-state route, which resulted in duplex microstructure with microcracks [N.S. VanDamme, A.E. Sutherland, L. Jones, K. Bridger, S.R. Winzer, J. Am. Ceram. Soc. 74 (1991) 1785; P.K. Patro, A.R. Kulkarni, C.S. Harendranath, Ceram. Int. 30 (2004) 1405; P.K. Patro, Trans. Ind. Inst. Metals 59 (2006) 229]. Impedance analyzer and ferroelectric hysteresis loop tracer were used for the dielectric, ferroelectric, IV and electric fatigue measurements. Microwave sintering also resulted in a dielectric maxima εmax 2590 at 1 kHz (compared to 1103 for conventional sintering [P.K. Patro, A.R. Kulkarni, C.S. Harendranath, Ceram. Int. 30 (2004) 1405]) for the sintering temperature of 1350 °C. Similar improvement in microwave-sintered SBN was observed depending on their sintering condition. The origin of this difference is attributed to microstructural differences arising from difference in heating method. In this paper the observed dielectric and ferroelectric behavior have been correlated with different sintering conditions and consequent microstructure due to microwave sintering.  相似文献

In this study we provide experimental methods to identify the magnetic resonance of split ring resonantors (SRR) at the microwave frequency regime. Transmission measurements were performed on both single SRR unit cell and periodic arrays of SRRs. The magnetic response of the SRR structure was demonstrated by comparing the transmission spectra of SRRs with closed ring resonators (CRR). Effects of the changes in the effective dielectric constant of the SRR medium on the band-gaps of SRR are investigated experimentally. SRRs not only exhibit a magnetic resonance band gap but also a band gap due to the electric resonance. Finally, we present the effect of electric coupling to the magnetic resonance of bianisotropic SRRs by utilizing SRRs with different orientations, and incident electromagnetic wave polarizations.  相似文献

Phase carried by two orthogonal polarizations can be manipulated independently by controlling both the geometric size and orientation of the dielectric nanopost. With this characteristic, we demonstrate a novel multifunctional metasurface, which converts part of the incident linearly polarized light into its cross-polarization and encodes the phase of the two orthogonal polarizations independently. A beam splitter and a bifocal metalens were realized in a single-layer dielectric metasurface by this approach. We fabricated the bifocal metalens and demonstrated that two focal spots in orthogonal polarizations can be separated transversely or longitudinally at will. The proposed approach shows a new route to design multifunctional metasurfaces with various applications in holography and three-dimensional display.  相似文献

Electronic and optical properties of pure and V-doped AlN nanosheet have been investigated using density functional theory, and the dielectric tensor is calculated using the random phase approximation (RPA). The results of structural calculations show that the V atoms tend to replace instead of aluminum atoms with the lowest formation energy. In addition, study of the electronic properties shows that pure AlN nanosheet is a p-type semiconductor that by increasing one V atom, it possesses the metallic properties and magnetic moment becomes Zero. Moreover, by replacing two V atoms, the half-metallic behavior with 100% spin polarization can be found, and each supercell gains a net magnetic moment of 3.99 µB. Optical properties like the dielectric function, the energy loss function, the absorption coefficients, the refractive index are calculated for both parallel and perpendicular electric field polarizations, and the results show that the optical spectra are anisotropic.  相似文献

The design, fabrication, and measurements of a broadband metamaterial absorber are reported. The proposed metamaterial absorber consists of circular metallic patches and a metallic ground plane separated by a dielectric layer. Increasing the number of metallic patches can broaden the frequency range when their resonances are closely packed together, thereby resulting in a broadband resonance. Experimental results show that the proposed absorber has high absorptivity, with a full width at half maximum absorption bandwidth of 2.8 GHz and the relative FWHM absorption bandwidth of 25.3?%. In addition, the absorber can operate at a wide range of incident angles under both transverse electric and transverse magnetic polarizations.  相似文献

The interaction of light with a layer of a chiral photonic crystal is considered. Features of the Borrmann effect at a strong anisotropy are studied. The natural polarizations are considered, and it is shown that in the limit δ << 1 (δ = (?1 ? ?2)/(?1 + ?2), where ?1 and ?2 are the principal values of the dielectric permittivity tensor in the plane perpendicular to the medium axis) these polarizations are orthogonal and quasi-circular, while in the limit δ >> 1 they are orthogonal but linearly polarized. It is established that in the general case the chiral photonic crystals show a complete selectivity not to the circular polarizations (as at δ << 1), but to the natural polarizations.  相似文献

This paper gives a quantitative analysis of the effect of near-tip microcracks on electric-field-induced stress intensity factors in isotropic elastic dielectrics. Nucleation of the microcracks is assumed to be governed by the electric-field-induced mean stress or the maximum normal stress. Based on the solutions for the effect of a single microcrack on the local electric field at the main crack, simple formulae are derived for the electric-field-induced stress intensity factors in the presence of the microcracks. It is found that the relative change in the stress intensity factor due to the microcracks for a conducting crack is equal and opposite to that for an insulating crack provided that the distribution of microcrack orientations is random. In particular, the microcracking zone is found to amplify the electric-field-induced stress intensity factor in some cases, especially for stationary insulating cracks, while the microcracking zone wake has an antishielding effect for sufficiently grown conducting cracks. These results are in sharp contrast with the well-known toughening effects of microcracks in elastic media under pure mechanical loads. This is attributed to the fact that the interaction between the microcracks and the main crack in elastic dielectrics under electrical loading is governed essentially by electrostatics, while the shape of the microcracking zone is determined by the electric field induced elastic stress field.  相似文献

设计了一种三角形复式晶格结构的光子晶体,在该类晶体中,电介质圆柱在空气中的排列存在E偏振和H偏振的光子带隙重叠区,称之为绝对光子带隙;而空气圆孔在电介质中的排列时,虽然E偏振和H偏振均分别存在光子带隙,但不存在绝对光子带隙。同时利用晶体的光子带结构研究了有效长波介电常数,所得结果与静电理论吻合。  相似文献

Phenomenological treatments of ferrielectrics are made in terms of two non-equivalent sublattice polarizations in the paraelectric phase. Unlike the Curie-Weiss behaviour of usual proper ferro- and antiferro-electrics, the dielectric susceptibility does not depend linearly on temperature. Particularly in the case of a first order phase transition, the Curie-Weiss constant seems to be unusually small. As an example, the dielectric properties of (NH4)2SO4, which was known to be a peculiar ferroelectric, is discussed from the ferrielectric point of view. The true Curie-Weiss constant is of a comparable order of magnitude to that of the order-disorder ferroelectric.  相似文献

Reflection and transmission of light in medium/cholesteric/substrate and glass (1)/cholesteric/glass (2) systems are discussed. These systems can be viewed as a cholesteric-filled Fabry-Perot resonator. A modified layer-addition method is used. Rigorous explicit expressions for the elements of the Jones matrices for these systems are derived. Reflection, transmission, Faraday-rotation, and polarization-ellipticity spectra were studied. The effect of quasi-monochromatism and degree of polarization of light on the refl ection properties was treated in terms of Müller matrices. The influence of the dielectric boundaries on intrinsic cholesteric polarizations was investigated. It is shown that initially quasi-circular intrinsic polarizations turn to quasi-linear as the difference between the cholesteric mean permittivity and the permittivity of the surrounding medium increases. Features of the Borrmann effect in the presence of dielectric boundaries are discussed.  相似文献

A compact two-dimensional finite-difference time-domain method is developed for the modal analysis of nonuniform dielectric waveguides. The unsplit-field perfectly-matched-layer absorbing boundary condition has also been extended to this approach. The proposed method approximates the maxwell equations by using the semivectorial wave equations, and the dominant electric fields are solved for two perpendicular polarizations. By introducing the new techniques, complex variables can be avoided in the calculations. At the same time, the number of variables is minimized in the computation domain. Through that, approximately half of the computation effort can be saved without accuracy loss. Numerical examples are given to substantiate the theory. Excellent accuracy has been obtained for the entire frequency spectrum, even near the cutoff region.  相似文献
